Totally silly, but totally funny

The positives of the movie are many. The special effects with the animals talking and moving are terrific. Kevin James is as likeable as ever. The main female leads are attractive and interesting There are many laugh-out loud funny gags. There are a few good throwaway lines and several touching moments between the Vet and the Zookeeper. The movie is clean: it has no nudity and no bad language I can remember. The scatological humor is kept to a minimum. Since a monkey is one of the most talkative characters, scatological humor could have taken over the show.The only negatives are the plot and some of the bizarre characters. The plot is just full of holes. A person starts hearing animals talk and never seeks help? A couple of the minor characters are strange and not really funny. However, in a screwball comedy these defects are really minor. My wife enjoyed the movie immensely.

Great Comedy

And, to all you wannbe movie critics, that are writing entire books and spoling the movie, remember what you are watching, a clean comedy. This is a great movie to watch with your wife and children. It is clean, no cursing, nudity or drug use. Just clean and funny, which is very hard to find in todays media market. Also, the synopsis is misleading, the animals show him nothing about mating it was more about how they would win the girl.

Give it a break!

I just watched Zookeeper and I must say I was pleasantly surprised.Kevin James plays Griffin Keyes, a caring zoo keeper who tries to winhis ex-girlfriend back who broke up with him five years ago. Hisslapstick performance along with the animal lip-syncs and their funnydialogues basically carried the movie. Rosario Dawson looked stunninglybeautiful as always and it makes me wonder why I still haven't migratedto New York yet. Also the rest of the cast was fun to watch especiallyGriffin's bitchy ex-girlfriend played by Leslie Bibb. So I don'tunderstand why so many people gave it one star. Do you really expectevery film to be a life-changing experience with plot twists youhaven't seen before and a mind-blowing ending? Some reviewers said thatthe story was predictable. Any story is once you have reached a certainage. Just take a look at some of this year's blockbusters which brokethe billion mark. I'm sure if you took away the CGI effects from DarkSide of the Moon or Johnny Depp's character in On Stranger Tides youwouldn't have a box office hit. A good film doesn't always need to havea compelling story line. It's supposed to serve its target audience andthat's what Zookeeper does. You should take the film for what it is: Anentertaining family movie you take your children to. Nothing more andnothing less.

This is a great comedy for us "normal" people!

I've read some of the lower scored of the user reviews and I thought tomyself, really? You guys must lack any sense of humor. This movie isfunny and cute and great for kids! Albeit, there could have been abetter cast of voices for the animals. Maybe casting Tim Allen, orJames Earl Jones as the lion would have been an improvement. However,this movie still presents a good amount of laughs for us normal people,that doesn't over think things. This movie kept me interested fromstart to end! Not once did I wanna leave my seat to go get a drink. Forany one wanting a good family laugh with a positive message, this is agood movie to watch. I can promise you this, your kids alone will laughat the cute animals. Especially the monkey! Adam Sandler was a comicalgenius in this movie! Not to mention Kevin James as the lead role! Heis a masterpiece in this! Don't let the reviews keep you from watchingthis great movie! You'll love it, I promise you! The people that ratedthis low, are biased in some sort of way. Maybe they hate cute andtalking animals. I'm not sure, nonetheless this is a great movie. Ihope you take my word for it and watch it if you haven't.

Wonderful movie for children and adults alike...

When I decided to watch "Zookeeper" it was because it starred KevinJames, and his movies are usually quite good. "Zookeeper" didn't failto deliver. I found this movie to be a really good one, catchy storyand a nice romantic touch to it.Initially I was a bit worried with the talking animals part, fearing itmight have turned into another "Dr. Dolittle" spin off, but "Zookeeper"was nothing of the sorts. The talking animals just added a sense ofcomedy and a good amount of personality to the movie. So do not dreadthis aspect of the movie.The story is very compelling and moving. Zookeeper Griffin Keyes(played by Kevin James) is dumped by his girlfriend Stephanie (playedby Leslie Bibb) on a very well-planned and romantic set-up. Yearslater, Stephanie reappears in Griffin's life, and things are turnedupside down. But who is Griffin now, where is he supposed to be, andhow will he get there to be with the love of his life? This is themajor line of the movie, then there are lots of nice sidelines to thestory as well."Zookeeper" has a good cast, and the chemistry between Kevin James andRosario Dawson (playing Kate) is really great. And the animal voicesare done by a group of great people as well. Nick Nolte as Bernie thegorilla, Adam Sandler as Donald the monkey (eventhough he sounds likehe just had his entire mouth shot full of tranquilizers in this movie),Sylvester Stallone as Joe the lion, Cher as Janet the lioness, and thelist goes on and on.I had feared that Adam Sandler was going to be all-shadowing in thismovie, but his role was only a supporting one. Yeah, I am not much of afan of his work. So I was personally relieved to find that Kevin Jameswas the one pulling the load of this movie."Zookeeper" has a good amount of comedy in it as well, and I waslaughing aloud a good number of times throughout the course of themovie. And for those of you who like romance, then "Zookeeper" has thatas well. I liked the storyline, because it was a, albeit somewhatstereotypical, romantic comedy. But it all worked out well for agreater unity.This movie will entertain children and adults alike, because there issomething in this movie for everybody. If you haven't seen "Zookeeper"already, then get in gear and sit down to watch it.

Time-Pass...

'Zoekeeper' is a Time-Pass Fare, that will appeal to kids. It has someentertaining moments, coupled with a terrific performance by KevinJames working for it, as well.'Zoekeeper' Synopsis: A group of zoo animals decide to break their codeof silence in order to help their lovable zoo keeper find love --without opting to leave his current job for something more illustrious.'Zoekeeper' never promised Great-Cinema, but it definitely promisedsome entertainment. To be honest, this recent comedy is flawed by along-shot, but despite the hiccups, the film manages some entertainingmoments, that don't disappoint. Frank Coraci's Direction is fair, while the Screenplay works in parts.Cinematography, Editing & Art Design, are serviceable.Performance-Wise: As mentioned, Kevin James delivers a terrificperformance. He is lovable as the Zoekeeper. Kids will love him!Rosario Dawson is passable. Leslie Bibb is as usual. Voice Roles, byall the actors, especially by Nick Nolte, are impressive. On the whole, A Fair Entertainer, that will make your young ones smile.

Yaaaaaaaawwwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnn......I'm sorry, but this movie inspired one of the longest yawns I've everlet loose with. I watched this with my 8-year old son, who was reallylooking forward to it based on the previews. I only agreed to go afterreading Ebert's review; this is one of the times he and I disagree.Was it warm-hearted? Not really? Was it funny? Not really. The animalswere what you would expect in a modern-day family comedy; smarmy andsmart-alecky. Kevin James' character was all too willing to follow thesilly advice of his new animal "advisors". Urinating in a potted plantat a wedding party, roaring like a bear at a co-worker, puffing out hisneck and squatting on the ground like a bullfrog to intimidate a rival.I mean...really? I know you check your sense of reality at the doorwhen you enter a theater, but this was asking too much. Simplyunbelievable.Another unbelievable aspect was the plot line in which two hotties wereromantically interested in Kevin James. I suppose that's to give hopeto middle-age slubs like me, but again it fails the reality check.The problem with this film is that was just plain unfunny. It wasreminiscent of Paul Blart and it's problems. Jokes that simply fallflat. Enough slapstick head bangs and pratfalls to make the trailerappealing to the kids, but completely lacking in originality and heart.The same basic storyline as Paul Blart (dumpy dorky guy tries to changehimself to impress someone else, then discovers he's just fine the wayhe is). You've seen it before.Did I hate it? No, I reserve that depth of emotion for real disasterslike Beverly Hills Chihuahua. Zookeeper was just flat and boring. WhatI expected, really. Ebert didn't do me any favors this time.

Extremely booooooring !! avoid it !

I went into Zookepper with my family not expecting much, as i knew itwas a kid's movie and nothing special, but the movie was a failure,even as a family film.my 3 kids, aged 7, 4 and 3 actually got bored and started to fidget andtalk in the theatre out of boredom. as for me, i could not stand themovie at all, there was nothing interesting about it at all.A few weeks back we also watched Mr Popper's Penguins, which was also akid's movie, but it was much much better than this drivel. at least thestory had flow and Jim Carrey is a much better actor than Kevin Jameswill ever be.the Zookeepr's story had no flow to it, it was like a bunch ofsupposedly funny scenes mixed together incoherently rather than a wholeconnected film. nothing interesting happens in the movie, just talktalk talk, and the dialog was just terrible, and the Animals werereally boring and not funny at all, no wonder my kids got boredquickly. not to mention it was obvious that the animals were not reallytalking, and that it was CGI.bad story, slow paced plot, boring dialog, bad acting, awful CGIs andridiculous scenes make this the worst film of 2011 so far.my 4 years old girl actually asked to leave the theater about 2/3 theway, and i was more than happy to leave with her, while my wife stayedwith the other two to finish this awful film. she told me the endingwas not good either.take my advice, avoid this at all costs, not even worth a DVD rental.

When you get knocked down you might as well stay down

People need to realize that just because a film is targeted for thechildren of family demographic doesn't mean it should be childish anddoesn't mean it is okay for it to be bad. Zookeeper start offpromising, has an interesting premise, but ultimately, takes the easyway out and gets bogged down with immaturity.The story is about Griffin (James), a lovable oaf who gets turned downafter proposing to his girlfriend on the beach. Kind of a sad way toopen a kid's film, but honestly, it's probably one of the better scenesof the film. For one, it's one of the few times we actually feelsympathy for the character. The girl is Stephanie (Bibb) who hates thefact that Griffin works as a zookeeper and doesn't earn a steady,promising living.But as a zookeeper, Griffin is happy. He talks to the animals when hefeeds them, gets along with fellow employees, and is content with thecards he has been dealt. Everything seems good for now, until he beginsredevelop feelings for Stephanie. That's where the animals come in. Theanimals are voiced by Sylvester Stallone as a lion, Cher as a lioness,Nick Nolte as a gorilla, Adam Sandler as a monkey, Maya Rudolph as agiraffe, and Judd Apatow as an elephant. The animals begin to talkaround Griffin, he freaks out, comes back the next day, and realizesthat the animals are trying to help him in his dating life.The only tolerable animal is Bernie the gorilla who is voiced perfectlyby Nick Nolte. Bernie and Griffin form the tightest bond of all becausethe film has them go out to T.G.I.F. Fridays at one point and treatstheir relationship as a buddy comedy would. The relationship is cute,inspired, but ultimately awkward.One of the main problems is the approach taken. The filmmakersshould've known that talking animals are enough to sustain a film. Agood film, I'm not sure, but the idea of animals communicating isenough to inspire a full length feature. If that is the case, why didwe need to see so many shots of Kevin James falling down? If the filmhad left the show to the animals, instead of so many relentless andredundant jokes about hitting the ground harder and harder I think agood film could've been made.The idea of animals coaching an ambitious man is actually a goodpremise when you think about it. It's just all in wit, delivery, andtiming. Rosario Dawson is energetic as her role as the zoo veterinariannamed Kate, but extremely underused.I'd too like to point out that when the animals talk, their mouthanimation is woefully unconvincing. The technical aspect is fair, butsome scenes it doesn't even look properly synced. I can't really be toocritical here because I can imagine that animating many animals' mouthsis not an easy task to be done. I'm also not trying to find flaws, justmany jumped out to me when watching.When reviewing a family film one needs to ask two questions; "will thekids enjoy it?" and "will the parents enjoy it." The answers are"probably" and "no." Zookeeper entertains its demographic, but isnonetheless odd and unfunny for most of its run. But if you choose towatch it, keep in mind that this entire film took five people to write.And frankly, it seems like they just passed the pen around after everyline.Starring: Kevin James, Leslie Bibb, and Rosario Dawson. Horrible movie

I hated this movie, kept fast-forwarding it to get through it and find something of value. The animal voices were irritating at best, the jokes vulgar and disgusting. Just no redeeming value at all. Nothing funny about it. Don't waste your time or your money on this garbage! The writers should be ashamed of wasting so much money producing such a waste of time, then promoting it as a great funny movie.

I didn't want it to be a movie about characters.... "SIGH"

(Kevin James) is one of the best actors and comedians in the last 50years. So why to make a lame movie with animals? The answer : to be inbusiness, to not be forgotten as a name in unstoppable ruthlessindustry, and to have a wonderful experience with animals BUT did weget any wonderful experience out of watching this ?I feel pity because of an easy script like this. So what was themeaning that the lead is a zoo keeper ?! and what exactly had changedin him after this trip ? and is there any intended similarity betweenhim as a zoo keeper and his ass as a clown ? Then what was the runningtheme in this whole movie anyway ?!! I'm sorry, but the ultimate answerfor all would be : NOTHING!OK, I think the "Trip" just affected the lead in a way to learn morelessons about life or to know what he really wants, and to discovermore credibility around him. But all of that just in damned theoreticalinvisible way ! Even the end's sentimental situation looked fake withsome line that hadn't much persuasion behind it so I can buy it anyway!The major irony is super though it would've been better if the lead'scharacter was animal hater, too pompous arrogant, selfish villainouswho'll going to be redeemed by the events! So speaking of ironies Ithink the biggest of them all is that you have (Kevin James) with sometrained lovely (Vera) through 3000 miles coast to coast 5-dayes odysseyand there isn't more than one laugh along the way !??? What a failure !This movie got the very little, very cursory to present : touchingmoments (the elephant picks up tenderly the funny nose of her deadfriend), comic time (Murray trying to choke a baboon out of tedium),thrilling situations (the loose python one, and maybe the climax) and,sadly more than surprisingly, that was it !As my review's title says, I didn't want to be a movie aboutcharacters, or character ! It didn't make much in area comic movieslike (Any Which Way You Can - 1980) made a lot in it, and it's nothinglike the polished peaceful family adventures that Disney producesyearly (at least they're meaningful !). So it was poor, tasteless, BLABLA BLA, or wait a minute.. It really worked on that level, the levelof making a good BLA BLA BLA !All in all.. The only Zookeeper thing in this movie was its title !

My two sons graduated high school with Kevin James so we have watched almost everything he's been in-but I saw this movie on a flight to Orlando and absolutely fell in love with it-totally hilarious and poignant as well-a MUST see! My favorite holiday gift!

Same old formula talking animals - sooooo cute.

Dumb, stereotypic juvenile talking animal humor for adults (or juvenile adults depending upon point-of-view). Same recycled multiple times storyline of loser lover finding himself (with the help of the animals of course) and gets the girl some girl in the end. NOTHING imaginative in the writing, acting or whatever. Overspent valuable time even writing this much. Good fit with Horrible Bosses. Some naturalists believe that the cute zoo animal syndrome is actually contributing to species extinction by humans because they don't look so cute in nature thus who cares.

Just hysterical!

This movie shows that even if it's a family movie it can be funny, evenwithout awkward nude scenes, blood, cruel language etc. I thought thismovie was hysterically funny and I laughed my ass off in some moments.There is good acting, some unfamiliar actors but they were good. KevinJames fit the role perfectly, no one could have done a better job. ButI rated it six stars. It is funny, a good story behind it, but it's not"Dumb & Dumber". I can just lay down one negative thing about the movie, it has nothingto do with the movie it self, kinda... I just miss one actors presencea little more. Ken Jeong! It needs more Ken Jeong. So when it all comes to an end, it is a good movie for people in allage groups, funny, some sad moment(s) and it has a good story.

Better than I had antisipated!

I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this movie. Expecting a silly, sophormoric comedy, I had many laugh-out-loud moments and was entertained throughout. Was it silly? Yes, some of it was. But I would watch it again!

Zookeeper won't play on Firmware Updated Sony Blu-Ray Player

This review is from: Zookeeper (DVD) We still have yet to watch this movie, had it ready to go to watch with our kids over New Year's Eve. At 11:00 p.m. and us all set to go we put Zookeeper into our Sony BDP-S550 Blu-Ray player. The disc could not be read. We put it into one of our other DVD players (without a big screen which is where we wanted to watch the movie) and it worked just fine. This morning did some research on this same issue and found others on the internet had issues with their firmware. We updated our Firmware and the Sony Disc will still not play in our Sony Blu-Ray player. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING! Please check it out before you cue it up to watch with the kids, it was a very irritating end to our day!
