A man awakens in a mangled car-wreck at the bottom of a steep cliff. Injured and trapped inside, with no memory of how he got there or who he is, he must rely on his most primal instincts to survive. But as he attempts to free himself from the carnage and escape an impossible situation, a darker side is revealed. Even if he manages to survive, the man may have to face the horrible consequences of an earlier, forgotten life.
It's not for everyone, no matter how banal this phrase is, but seeinguser rating it's a fact. But then again, I had low expectations myself. The performance of Brody is good, if not excellent. Well, he has atalent. The story is not very original or twisted, but it has someinteresting and quite scary moments. Speaking about soundtrack, it'svery very good. Slow guitar ambiances creating a deep feeling ofisolation. If you like movies with almost no talk, just nice scenery and such, then grab it (buy a DVD or through torrents).TL;DR version: Underrated film with great atmospheric soundtrack andsimple story.
I love landscapes like the one in which this movie is set. I couldclimb for days around the hilly hardwoods groves and fern beds anddecaying leaf mats and never miss civilization or my preciouselectronics. Adrian Brody, as an amnesic and badly injured accident victim who wakesup in a mangled car in just such a landscape, has no reason at all toenjoy it. In fact, he barely notices it, as he struggles to save hisown life and gradually pieces together the truth of his situation. Heremembers, in flashes and glimpses, and he also hallucinates. None of this is especially involving, and the flashbacks and dreamscome so far apart that I was never able to sustain much curiosity aboutit. So much footage is devoted to woodland scenes, in fact, that thewoods eventually take over the movie. Whether this was what the director intended or not is beside the point. It got to the point where even the briefest plot interludes becamevaguely annoying, almost offensive. The wilderness is the hero, and itdoesn't care about Adrian Brody and his broken leg and his brokenmemory. The wilderness is perfectly represented by the mountain lionthat keeps showing up to drag off the bodies of the other accidentvictims for dinner. All we are is meat.
I guess the industry has gone down after 127 hours...were they tryingto remake it in some way?the whole movie was about a SEATBELT!!!!hewent round and round came back to the same place.. I thought thecurrents would take him to some other far away land. How was the ladyeven related and why did he kill her?just because she was sitting on abench holding a coffee cup?this is a total waste of time I'm surepeople who have no other life would end up watching it.it is a reallybad movie. no much of dialogues nor were there any action scenes just alion going here and there and an aimless dog who came out of no where.he even kept on looking at the cellphone hoping for it to work eventhough it went in the water.the acting was fine by Adrian but couldhave done much better
"Who's Raymond Plazey?" After waking up in a mangled car in the bottomof a ravine with a broken leg the man (Brody) has no idea how he gotthere. Doing everything he can he tries to escape the car and findhelp. This movie, much like "Buried" and "Castaway" involves prettymuch one character the entire time. Very little dialog and prolongedscenes of trying to open a door make this a hard film to get through.I'm not saying this is a bad movie, but it is very, very slow moving. The acting by Brody is very good and it's worth watching to see him.Much like the movie "Memento" the lead character is going about hislife trying to figure out who he is and how he got there. Unlilke"Memento" there is really not much that sucks you in and makes you wantto keep watching. I got through it, but it was a struggle. Overall, avery slow moving one character movie that is watchable, and onlybecause Brody does a good job. I give it a C.Would I watch again? - Nope *Also try - Bruied & Memento
I went into this movie knowing vaguely what it was about, and I wasreally interested in seeing the delivery. I am a big fan of films thathas a set listing of primarily one location, and also films that delvedeep into the human condition. Movies such as Phonebooth and 127 Hoursreally succeeded in this aspect, at least in my opinion. So if this issomething that also interests you then this movie wouldn't be a badviewing for you. Adrien Brody has always been an actor I enjoywatching, he really embraces his roles to me. His performance in thisfilm did not disappoint. We wake up with him in the front seat of a wrecked car in the middle ofthe woods, confused, lost, and with no recollection of previous events. So in a sense we are in the same boat as the main character, and thatis an interesting perspective. The filming was well done, acting was great as always, the scriptingand plot were pretty excellent. I felt like all the reactions displayedby the main character were extremely realistic, and the emotionsconveyed really hit home. The problems with this movie are the same as most every movie that youactually enjoy, whether that enjoyment is something you expected fromthe film or a surprise. The ending left way to many questions, and thatmade the movies overall appeal spiral downward. Now anything andeverything you enjoyed about the movie becomes questionable becausepieces are missing. There we're a couple twists and turns here andthere that caught me off guard, but a lot of that becomes moot when youare left with a handful of questions. I'm sure a lot of filmmakers andwriters are okay with leaving you with a cliffhanger ending, and I amokay with viewing one, if it is warranted. But when it just leaves youmore lost and confused than you were previous that doesn't add anythingto the film, it just takes away from it. Needless to say I wasdisappointed in the end, pun completely intended.RECOMMENDED WITH CAUTION (If you like this genre of psychologicalsuspense films then rent it or watch it on Netflix, don't buy it.
Adrien Brody does a respectable job carrying the movie, but carry it he must as the story runs out before the film does. Would probably have made an excellent short film cut to somewhere between 40 and 60 minutes. Even at its full running time, though, it's not unrewarding.
I'd suggest you watch the first 10 minutes of this disc, then skip to the last 10 minutes, because the entire "story" resides in those segments. All you have in between are endless scenes of Adrian Brody crawling on his belly across boring and repetitious heavily forested hillsides. He wakes up trapped in a wrecked car, suffering from amnesia. How'd he get there? How does he get out? A survival story. That's the first ten minutes.Aaaaah! That's what happened! Okay! That's the last 10 minutes... max!In between: B-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ring!I have to wonder if this mess was ever even released in theaters. I sure don't remember seeing any ads for it.Which then raises another interesting question: is Brody positioned to join the "direct-to-video" group? People like Dolph Lundgren (has anybody EVER paid to see a Lundgren movie in theaters?), Stallone, Steven Seagal, the WWA crowd, and a host of others? This is a guy who has some real talent; a guy who's actually been awarded an Oscar. A guy I think has always been "interesting" - which is the only reason I ever rented this DVD.All I can say is, thank God I only RENTED it, on my Blockbuster queue at that. So I didn't have to actually part with any actual money.Otherwise I'd be REALLY ticked off.One star... only because "zero" is not an option.
Reboots are a double-edged sword. On one edge is the depressing realization that Hollywood has genuinely run out of ideas. Using their business model, they've completely crushed all original thought and ingenuity from within. When 'Swimming With Sharks' came out, I was amused at what I believed to be satire. Turns out it was a documentary in disguise. I really shouldn't be surprised, not really. The so-called progressive herd mentality that exists there today in 2011 tends to foster the worst types of misguided hardcore entrenched mindsets, not the least of which results in dead creativity. On the other edge is that they're quite adept at taking an older product and spiffying up with a bit of modern polish and adding a sharper tack. Taking something old-n-rusty and making it look and feel new again is a genuine talent, and it's one I appreciate, even if it's essentially parasitic.Such is the case with 'Wrecked' - an engaging reboot of the classic 1953 movie 'Inferno' starring Robert Ryan. I tried to locate an Amazon Product Link, unfortunately it has yet to find a commercial release, so you'll have to take my word that this production is indeed a reboot. So what happens when you awake trapped in terrible car wreck - and you have absolutely no clue how or why you're there? Bloody, injured, dead bodies laying around, and apparently you're the only survivor. It's a clever twist on the original screenplay. And adding traumatic amnesia adds a dramatic flair, as Brody's character has to struggle with the loss of his very identity in an effort to understand his predicament.Like the original, this film tells the story of a man who has to survive in the desolate wilderness with a severe injury and no hope of rescue. Your only chance is what you yourself bring to the table; what resources, knowledge and internal strength that you carry within.Interestingly, the filmmakers removed treacherous would-be-killers and replaced them with the unknowns of nature. Truth be told, I'd rather face the killers. Natural predators are infinitely more terrifying than some thug. With a murderer you're dealing with humanity; certainly it's not the best of humanity, but at least rage, jealousy, fear or envy are emotions and rationalizations one can understand. Even a paid assassin has professionalism as a justification. But when you're facing a natural threat, it's just following what's in its nature, which I find so much more coldly threatening. The axiom 'nothing personal' takes on a truly grim and terrifying visage. An excellent film and one, like the character himself, you need to endure to receive the reward of revelatory knowledge.Personal Note: Adrien Brody has, in my mind, supplanted Daniel Day Lewis and Gary Oldman as the chameleon actor of choice. Deservedly so, his range is truly amazing. His performances border on a word I avoid like the plague - magical. But bleep me, that's the word that fits. I will never forget his work as a mentally retarded young man in 'The Village' or as one of the funny dysfunctional brothers in 'The Darjeeling Limited'. Despite the familiar contours and shape, I'm always amazed to discover what new face I'm watching. The man is talent defined.
This film proves why there is Danny Boyle, and then there's the rest.In "127 Hours," this smart director instinctively knew how to engage anaudience, thrill them, captivate them, and make them sympathetic to themain character without any other characters or story points to speakof. The fact that he pulled this off is something of a miracle. But he did so by realizing, among other things, that holding for 30seconds or more on a static closeup of his lead actor while absolutelyNOTHING happened was not the answer. In fact, he knew it would be the death of his film. Whoever directed (and edited) "Wrecked" doesn't quite understand thisconcept. These well-meaning amateurs can't quite wrap their mindsaround the idea that what's essentially a boring story doesn't have tobe told in a boring, ultra-realistic way (despite how many reality TVshows have become successful). That's why "127 Hours" was nominated for multiple Oscars... and who'seven ever heard of "Wrecked"?? It was never even released -- despitehaving a major star in the lead role.Maybe, with a good editor, this failed experiment in non-storytellingmight have worked as a short film. Even with a terrible director whodoesn't understand filmmaking, there are ways to turn the story of acar crash survivor into an entertaining 10-minute short. Features onthe other hand generally succeed using a three-act structure and storyrevelations. At least this wrecked attempt can serve as a lesson to futurefilmmakers: when portraying a character going through misery, don'tmake the audience suffer as well! People don't generally turn overtheir hard-earned cash so they can have a terrible time at the movies.
I LOVE Adrien Brody, I only have a handful of Actors that I really getexcited about when they play in movies and he is pretty much top ofthat list. Movies such as The Pianist, Spice, Predators, TheExperiment, The Jacket plus more are all some of my all time favoritemovies. So when I saw a preview for Wrecked I was super excited andcouldn't wait for the movie to come out . Maybe that was my problem. This movie COULD have been a great movie. Adrien Brody was not theissue here. He played a great part with his confusion and frustration. The problem was that the movie was way too long. In a movie whereabsolutely nothing was happening its impossible not to contemplateshooting yourself so you don't have to endure anymore of the awfulboredom of watching absolutely nothing unfold on the screen.Like most German Shepherd lovers, I never tire of watching thisbeautiful breed or talking to my fellow GSD lovers about the breed. Ifound I spent the majority of the movie talking about the beautifulBelgian Shepherd Dog (Malinois). I was checking out his stance, hisears, laughed when he was playful that's how boring I found thismovie, I only enjoyed it when the dog was on screen. I love the breedbut it seems sad to me that I was more enthralled with the dog then theactual storyline.Overall very boring film. Its basically Adrien (who was amazing eventhough the movie sucked) cursing and swearing, some weird dreams, avery beautiful dog and a bunch of trees. That's basically the wholemovie in a nutshell.Zombiesteak.com - Discover a new world of horror films, designed justfor you.www.zombiesteak.com
First off, I didn't know much about this besides the synopsis and Ifinally saw a copy in Wal-Mart the other day. I decided to check it outand I am glad I did.Its not great, but this movie has a limited audience... but for theindie film or drama / thriller people I think its an interestingexperience. I like finding movies like this that I think about later, and since basically it was all one actor by himself I have to give thismovie major props.I think Brody did a fantastic job, but I feel frustrated by thecharacters decisions... although he was not a survivalist by any means,so it worked. I kept watching to see what was really happening andwhere it was going. I feel the ending was satisfying and was not a lame"twist", yet a huge relief... so all in all, I think its worth a watch.
This film has... nothing. Absolutely nothing. Extremely low budgetwithout scenario, and some dumb twists (or they wanted them to be) tospice up this, uh, film. I expected it to be similar to "BURIED" (oneman only for 1.5 hour putting yourself becoming one with thecharacter), but no, this crap has nothing to do with that. Avoid it atall costs. I watched it on 2 "empty" hours on my job and still feltthat i lost 1.5hour of my life! Prefer to see an episode from "the loveboat" instead of this. And yes, you might find it too much, but thismovie is THAT BAD! ---SOME NOTES FOR THE MOVIE--- 1. Almost 50minutesof the movie are just camera shots with literally nothing happening. 2.The main character actually does try & gets the job done, but there areso many flaws, that he just wastes his talent. 3. Don't want to addspoilers, and how could i since there are none to mention!
Great storyline! Twists and turns i never expected! Adrian Brody hasn'tmade a disappointing movie yet!! When watching this movie, don't expecta lot of things to be happen all at once. It starts slowly and buildsup to a very surprising plot. Think of 127 hours, but instead of notbeing able to move from one spot, he is forced to deal with the harsh, cruel reality of nature, while attempting to find civilization................. .............. ........... ......... ................................. .................... ................................... .............. ............ .................................. ............ ...
This is a very uncomfortable film. Now I don't mean it is bad. I meanthis is the type of film you can feel and you start to feel what themain character is going through. The whole movie is based around onemain character played by Adrien Brody. He did an excellent job. Themovie starts with him waking up in a car that had fallen off a smallcliff. He is alive, but the people around him are dead. Through thewhole film you are trying to piece together what happened. By the endyou figure it out, but there are some things they leave untouched onpurpose. Let the viewers mind come up with its own conclusions. Thismovie takes on a different type of scary. Like a real life scary. Iremember a few scenes that when they happened, I couldn't help butshake my head and think much that would really suck in real life. Thewriters of the film made a good story and the director did a good jobwith little budget they probably had. This was a very nice suspensefulfilm.
A remarkably brave performance from Adrien Brody highlights this intense psychological thriller. WRECKED is basically a one-man show with very little dialogue.Brody plays a man who wakes up the victim of a serious auto accident. He has no memory of the accident, who he is, or the identity of the two dead men who were obviously with him. A news report on the car radio convinces him he's one of three bank robbers on the lam.The movie focuses on Brody's desperate attempt to free himself from the car and get help. As he crawls through the dense woodlands, he encounters a hunter, a mysterious woman and a friendly dog---and disturbing memories surface.WRECKED is a difficult movie to watch. How can we sympathize with a desperate criminal? It's to Brody's credit that we do care about his plight. The script takes an unexpected twist and turns things completely around. Director Michael Greenspan takes the risky task of keeping things interesting with little actual action and allows us to feel Brody's hopelessnesss and despair, and on that level succeeds. My only complaint comes with what really happened with the female character.Adrien Brody's performance is Oscar worthy and forms the heart of what could have been an average film.
This movie could have been excellent (or at least rated above 5 / 10stars) with one or two less loooong drawn out scenes of the maincharacter crawling up (or down or over or through) the woods, stoppingand looking out into the wild. Seriously, I wanted to shoot myself fromabout minutes 45 to 75. I suppose the screenwriter had no choice but topad the movie since it was already going to be relatively short (hmmm, maybe it could be a Short instead?).You would think that after 5 years of writing there would be much morethan crawling and panning forest shots. Oh well.Give me the first and last 30 minutes of the movie and I would be veryhappy with the outcome.
I cannot understand why this film wasn't better received, especiallyamong the Commenters herein. Though "survival" films are a sub-genremany find tedious, Iwas intrigued throughout, both with the survivalaspect and the back story about how our "man" got there in the firstplace. I cannot say that the "back story" was wholly satisfying, thoughit was/is an interesting idea to tease the viewer with the idea thatthe survival being so fervently sought is neither deserved norrewardable. Brody was great: Think how few actors could pull this roleoff as well. I can understand how some viewers would become impatient, especially the slogging through the woods second half. For some reasonI found myself becoming frustrated FOR our character, as opposed tofrustrated with the film. Such translated into entertainment for me.I'll take ideas, technique and perseverance over big production everytime.
This movie is filled with endless scenes which look like they're building up to something major, but then nothing happens! A good 45 minutes of it is watching a character crawl through the wilderness on his belly (um....it's just one leg that's injured - how about hopping around for at least a while, or using a big tree branch as a crutch?). It's an endless stream of set ups with zero pay off. Amnesia; got it. Flashbacks; okay. But sitting through the entire thing, only to have it end with a thud instead of an "AHHHH!!!" moment, that's what I found frustrating with this movie. And the only "AHHH" realization that comes at the end, you're like, "....oh. Okay...." Adrian Brody is a great actor. But this movie is a great idea that takes way WAY too long to make its point. Thank goodness for Redbox; I would have been angrier if I would have paid more than $1.00 to sit through this. And I'm all for suspending disbelief for the sake of a movie. But if your average cell phone gets submerged under water in rough, cascading, roaring rapids for about 10 minutes, it's history. It won't just start working again after it dries out.
The horror!Imagine: you wake up in a car wreck at the bottom of a ravine. Your face, as you can see in the front passenger mirror, is bruised and bloody. Your leg is stuck under the dashboard. You don't know who you are and how you got there. The driver seat is empty. The front window is smashed. There is a dead man on the back seat. You don't know him. You turn on the radio, and among the brief snippets that you catch are Tiny Tim's hit song (which might help with a time line, together with the car model) and a piece of news about a bank robbery. Are you one of the robbers? You find a revolver below the driver seat. You find a credit card in the name of one of the robbers, which had been mentioned on the radio. Are you Raymond? After some time you manage to wriggle out of the car. Your leg is broken. You improvise a stabilizer by using pieces of wood and a belt. You hallucinate about a woman coming to help you. You hallucinate about a puma around the car, then about a friendly dog. You start crawling away from the wreck. You find 2 more dead bodies. You begin to remember bits and pieces. You find a road.... No spoilers here. All this might sound like good suspense, but it is, after all, just so...so. The script is not carrying a full length feature. Brody is credible but left alone. The story is too often confusing between hallucinations and actual events. Not a stupid flick, but somehow deficient. Not enough meat on the bone! Not for the puma and not for the dog.
Wrecked, a low budget''situation'' thriller follows along in the samegenre as 127 hours and Buried. Each of these films deals with a singlecharacter trapped in a precarious death defying situation. The audienceis then asked to watch and see if they are able to escape with theirlives. While 127 hours was set in a canyon, Buried in a coffin, Wreckedopens with a man (Adrian Brody) slowly regaining consciousness to findhimself trapped in a mangled car wreak. Stuck in the car with nobodyaround to hear his calls for help, the film spends the next 90 minutesfollowing his desperate attempts to escape.Adrian Brodys plays the title character called ''man''. He wakes up ina car wreck in the woods. He has no memory of how he got there and withonly a dead body in the back seat there is precious little clues forhim to go on. As the days pass with no sign of help coming and his mindbeginning to play tricks on him desperation turns to determination.Getting out of the car however seems to be only the start of hisproblems.First and foremost films like these are acting showcases, with nobodyto play off Brody does a top notch job of opening up a thinly drawncharacter and conveying the pain and futility of being trapped in asituation they cannot get off. He is a great actor who is consistentlywatchable in every film he is in. However, no matter how good Brody ishe cannot help maintain the audience involvement. First time directorMichael Greenspan does a great job of creating an intriguing set up butthe intrigue quickly turns to Boredom. The plot is minimalist to theextreme (which is expected in these films) and with only a few cluesscattered throughout (a receipt, a radio broadcast about a bankrobbery, the appearance of an unknown woman) there is precious littleto care about. Once Brody escapes the car it seems to amount to notingmore then watching a man crawl through the woods for an hour. Therunning time seems far too long to sustain your interest. Where 127hours focused on the more human drama of the situation Wrecked paintsitself into a corner pitching itself as a mystery. It offers so littlethat when the climax arises we haven't gotten to know the character soit passes with little impact.Overall the film is well acted and a visual impressive directorialdebut. As a shorter film it could have been amazing but with too manyrepetitive scenes to pad the running time it bores where it shouldentertain. If you are looking for more of a story to cling to I wouldrecommend Buried, Frozen or 127 hours.
