Wizards of Waverly Place focuses on the Russos. A typical family, which includes a mom, Theresa Russo a dad, Jerry Russo a son, Justin Russo a daughter, Alex Russo and another son, Max Russo. The kids and the family live normal lives but what their friends dont know is the kids are wizards in training and the dad was a former wizard!

We have taken some photos of "Wizards of Waverly Place - Season Four". They represent actual movie quality.
Generally speaking, it's my honest opinion that this particular show isof much higher quality than most of the other DC (Disney Channel)shows, and I know for a fact that several other persons feel the sameway. The characters is generally well-written, but I honestly believe thatthe youngest of the Russo children, Max, is simply too stupid to bebelievable. I mean, many of the things he says and/or do, is sostupid/foolish that I don't he would be allowed to walk around freelyin the real world, but rather be in an institution for mentallychallenged children. But otherwise, good characters.
Okay, somehow everybody wanted to get in on the Harry Potter franchiseregardless if people never read the books, seen all the films or havingcertain issues to make them not to be part of the wizard's such asbeing a religious fanatic; but Disney found a way to make magic funwithout scaring a few target audiences. (Hell, Disney Channel airs thefirst two Harry Potter films every year twice, so no big deal) "Wizardsof Waverly Place" is about the adventures of three young kids withmagic powers they inherited from their dad. And yet, each segment hasthem misusing their powers where they must find a way to make thingsnormal without having others finding out that they are wizards. The Good: The young cast that includes Selena Gomez as Alex Russo,David Henrie as Justin Russo and Jake T. Austin as Max Russo worktogether very well. They show a real connection as if being siblings inreal life. The Okay: Some episodes have fun plots while others aren't interesting. What do you expect? It's a kid's show. The Bad: Despite trying to draw an ethnic audience, the creators didn'thave to portray many stereotypes regardless of the characters' heritageor the extra characters (such as the History teacher and his love ofwestern). The special effects themselves are cheesy where most TV showshad better effects than this. Plus the Harry Potter references areobvious.Overall: Not a bad show; love the young trio, but the show should avoidthe usage of Harry Potter references and stereotypes.
One of the few new shows that I like on Disney Channel as of now isWizards Of Waverly Place which is Very smart, very clever, and veryfunny. The show centers around a family of wizards who own a sub sandwichshop. Alex Russo played by Selena Gomez is usually the trouble maker.Justin Russo played by David Henrie Is the genius one of the family. And then you have Max Russo played by Jake T. Austin who is the not sointelligent one. This show to my surprise is very very good. I am Not usually in tofantasy stuff but this is one thing that has me coming back every week. The cast is perfect the premises make sense for a fantasy show and thehumor is just great. But some of the jokes wear out pretty fast. otherthan that a fantastic show.Rated TV-G.30min.***1/2/****
The first time I watched this show, I honestly found the comedy alittle too dry or mild yet still good and funny. Since I was reallyexpecting a lot from this show, I decided to continue watching it. WhenI did, I really grew to love this show since it turned out to be waybetter than I expected.Almost every aspect from this show is really impressive. First of all,the cast really proved themselves to be very talented and naturalactors and actresses. Selena Gomez really stands out from the pack, Imean she really deserves this role since she has that magical abilityto charm and enchant viewers with her character, Alex Russo.Second, the stories are really creatively done by the writers and it'stheir kind of writing that inspires me to become one myself. Althoughsome ideas that they used are a little corny and boring, they stillmanage to weave tales of magical fun and excitement. They reallymanaged to work out the magical concepts of the show into the plots ofeach episode making it almost unique and complex. They also managed towork out the characters well as they gradually develop as the showprogresses if you observe closely since it may not be that obviousespecially with Alex. Like any other Disney show, they also make surethat a moral is learned in every episode and although these morals mayseem redundant from past shows, Wizards seems to exhibit these moralsin a different and more vivid way to make us understand them more.Third, the effects used in the series are indeed substandard comparedto the effects used in some other shows and movies. This is probablybecause the budget isn't allotted much on the special effects. Disneycan be very cheap lately. Despite this, some effects used in this showare actually quite good and almost convincing. Let's be reminded thatthis is a sitcom meant for children who may not really care at allabout the effects although they are pretty much doing the best they canto impress viewers of all ages in one way or another aside from thesometimes unrealistic visual effects.Fourth, it's appeal and popularity has really been noticeablyincreasing recently. I mean it spawned a line of merchandise, releasedan impressive soundtrack, and culminated to a spectacular movie withvery positive appeal. If you noticed, these things occurred almost toonear to each other probably in order for it to win at the Emmy Awards, which it did. It really proved itself to be an Outstanding Children'sProgram even beating heavy competitors such as iCarly and HannahMontana. In short, this is a really excellent show. It seems that this show hastaken its genre to a whole new level. Disney should really promote itinto the sophisticated and prestigious show that it is. Wizards ofWaverly Place is truly a magical show that is willing to lend its magicto viewers who would want it. I hope this show would turn out evenbetter as it continues its run and I also hope that its stars, especially Selena Gomez, would shine their brightest once the showwould meet its eventual end.Oh, oh, oh, it's magic.. You know.. Never believe it's not so...
I just watched an episode of Wizards of Waverly Place, I can't believethis garbage is on TV, I wasn't surprised to learn that Disney isbehind this monstrosity! Bad acting, spoilt brats, and I would love tosee this show air without the laugh track, that would be fun to watch.Without the laugh track,it would make most kids, who actually likethis, wonder what is so funny about it! I just don't get it, the castmust have family who pulled strings to get them on a show, even if itsucks! The same goes with "Hanna Montana", unbelievably bad acting andtotally NOT funny! Miley Cyrus has got to be the worst actor in theshow, thank God her dad was famous, because she would have never madeit on TV, or anywhere! Disney has some of the worst actors on TV!Wizards of Waverly Place, Rating; BAD!
Each actor and actress seems to have gone to the acting school of, "MYHANDS! LOOK AT ME! I'M TALKING LOUDER THAN EVERYONE ELSE!" I am annoyedjust watching these over-gesturing spotlight-hogging spastic people.None of the acting cast seems to comprehend that they are not thesingle star of the show and each person is trying to out-ham-act eachother, every single second of the show. That would be fine if they wereall in the proper clown makeup with props, but as a show cast, isrepellent. The set design looks well thought out with almost every set lookingvisually interesting, but the breakfast nook is way too visually busy. The special effects are not too obnoxious. The sound is not wellmanaged as the laugh track is an over-bearing over-eager spasticgrating on every single hint of a comedic pause. The sound editor failsto clip off the shrieking edge on the character's voices. The filmeditors seem to have filmed more "establishing shots" than 30-minuteshow with a 20-second clip of nothing interesting being shown every 3minute stretch. The camera work is pretty well done despite all of theother flaws of the series. The lighting is great and compliments theset design very well. The writers are not so horrible as the direction is incompetent and thecast is obnoxious to the level of acting like corny cartoony imitationsof human beings. I would like to slap their acting coach if given theopportunity. The sad thing is that using the timeless question of "ifthis character died, would I miss them" the result is "no, not a singleone of these characters would be missed if they died." The only actorsand actresses that can act properly in a comedic series are thesecondary characters who are able to "tone it down" properly for ascene and are properly not trying to hog the spotlight like a retardedhyper-spastic version of Jim Carrey.I would normally review a show in regards to the characters, plot, andhighlights. This show is so blaring in over-the-top incompetence indirection and acting that nothing else about the show is reallynoticeable unless a person is forcing themselves to see past thescreaming obnoxious flaws.I will note that the set for the opening school hallway of the show issame one from Howard Hessman's "Head of the Class" (1986-1990)series.
I LOVE THIS SHOW! There are amazing actors, it's funny, and it makesyou smile. Here is about the show~ 3 Siblings Justin Alex and Max Russo, are wizards and Nobody really knows but the best friends and family andthe family owns a sub shop. Well the show has really change over 4seasons, Alex was sort of mean at first, now Alex is Wizard of The Year2011, Justin barely changes, Max gets WAY MORE FUNNY. There areDramatic parts funny parts scary parts and all together it's great!Selena Gomez is Great as Alex Jake Austin is an Awesome Max, and DavidHenrie is Good as Justin And There is Harper Zeke The Mom Dad and More. And this is great for all ages, I have 4 people in my family, Me 9,Little Bro 6, Dad 37 and Mom 36. We All love this show! It Makes us alllaugh, Me and My Brother laugh the most, We Love the episode"Misfourtne at the Beach!" So I Love it all together It is Magically10/10 (excellent)
8 out of 10. I could be pushed to make this higher if I get to see moreof comedian Bill Chott. This great comedian/improviser is always a joyto watch on the screen. There are certain people who just help makeshows remember-able and this guy hits a home run! For those unfamiliarwith his work...check him out! He's had many memorable (and scenestealing) performances in movies like 'Galaxy Quest' and 'The Ringer'.I'm excited to see him become a bigger part of this production.Sometimes those small characters are exactly what makes a showwork..and this holds true for Bill Chott and "Wizards.."! Thanks Disneyfor giving us what we like to see..great talent with a great positiveenergy. I'm looking forward to seeing more Chott!
With the exceptions of some goofy jokes The Wizards of Wavely Placeisn't a bad show, it's actually pretty creative and has some prettycatchy and witty humor into it and has a cast of likable characters andhas more believable performances than compared to a lot of Disney'sshows these days.I'll admit it, I thought this show looked and was utter crap from thestart, but months later I checked it out and actually enjoyed it. Butwhy watch it? Call me hypocritical but I checked it out for the actorsportraying the parents, Maria Canals-Barrera and David DeLuise. So withCoop and Hawkgirl on one show I thought it'd be interesting to see themstar as regulars on a live show, since I didn't see any of their livework before. So what's the premise? Well it's set in New York City for one thing. And there's a family that lives in an apartment, they also run a coffeeshop, and the father, and the kids are all wizards. However, instead ofliving in some magical parallel universe that reflects our own they allreside here on earth and try blend in as much as possible, just likeSabrina: The Teenage Witch.Like Sabrina: The Teenage Witch, Wiuzards of Waverly place has somepretty creative and clever bits of comedy into it, a lot of them feelpretty fresh.Since you've already read my thoughts about the actors portraying theparents here's my POV on the teen stars of this show, including SelenaGomez. I usually come to terms to believe that all Disney stars thesedays are just poster boys or poster girls who need the last name ofWalt to help them get through college, or just get their way to the topbecause they lack the abilities to do that themselves, but my opinionon Selena Gomez, Jake T. Austin, and David Henrie is rather theopposite. This show isn't great but it's a lot more watchable than most of DisneyChannel's dreck these days, call that statement one that doesn't saymuch or one that says a lot all you want, but that's my final choice ofwords on this review.
Wizards of Waverly Place is a RARE gem in the vast sea of TV wasteland. This show is superbly written, incredibly well cast, and very wellacted. If you like subtle "inside-joke" type humor - this show is foryou. Yet at the same time it also does more than enough obviousphysical humor to keep younger and more simple-minded viewersenthralled. For example, in one episode there is a bumbling weathermannamed BAXTER KNIGHT. A hilarious homage to Ted Baxter, played by TedKnight, on the Mary Tyler Moore Show more than 30 years ago - thisreference will be totally lost on 99% of the viewing audience since fewwere born prior to 2000. In another episode, Selena steals the show bygreedily sloughing down all the chocolate deserts on everyone's platesin a fancy restaurant. In that regard, Waverly Place is very similar toall those classic LOONEY TUNES cartoons we all know and love - it canappeal to you on both a very simple AND a very cerebral level. Youngchildren who watch this show today can go back and watch it again in 20years and they will have an entirely new appreciation all over again,on a whole new level. The entire cast is a joy to watch, but a specialtip of the hat to Selena Gomez who is a true delight. This girl shinesboth as an actress and as a singer. Plus, she is a real sweetheart andtotally deserves all the future success she is guaranteed to achieve.Unlike the Lindsays and Britneys of our sad generation, Selena sets ashining example of perfection as a performer, coupled with gracefulelegance as a young lady - giving her legions of young fans a more thanworthy role model. Selena has released three albums to date, and eachone has been better than the last, which is no small feat consideringthey were all amazing. Most artists today release an album featuringone or two good songs, and 10 really bad ones. Not Selena - ALL of hersongs are music to my ears. Here's hoping Waverly goes on at least 5more seasons - add more music to the show and it can't miss! Thanks yetagain to Disney for creating an environment that fosters creative andunique programming of enduring value for generations of all ages.
I've seen a lot of Disney's shows since Lizzie McGuire and Even Stevenswere around, and I have to say I enjoy Wizards of Waverly Place themost. It doesn't rely on excessive overacting to get laughs, whichmakes it less obnoxious than some other Disney's shows. I love theinteraction between Alex and Justin, and I definitely appreciate howAlex doesn't get away with her schemes (unlike how the little sister inDrake & Josh gets away with everything, which bothers me so much I haveto throw it in right here) and the fact that the parents aren'tcomplete idiots. This show isn't perfect, of course. The special effects are horriblyfake, the jokes don't always make sense and can be downright lame, andHarper and Max are among the most underdeveloped characters in thehistory of sitcoms. I also feel that Selena Gomez's acting was a lotbetter in the beginning in the series, before Alex was established as asarcastic girl who was too cool to care about anything. All of that, however, doesn't cancel out all the enjoyable aspects of this series.:)
I used to love this show. The first season was really great. But I thinkthey made the mistake of writing Juliet in.Since Brigit was eventuallygoing to have her own show, they had to find a way to write her out.Theypicked like THE worst way to do it.The one hour episode "Wizards vs. Werewolves" was a disaster. It wasdepressing and more like a soap opera then a children's comedy. The writing was just sad. The scenes looked reallyunrehearsed, especially the scene where Alex throws the necklace andscreams "Oh my gosh, what are you doing?!" The background music wastacky. The fighting scene looked totally fake and it was obvious therewhere stunt doubles.Max acted retarded. And seriously??? Juliet turns into a 2,193 year old lady??Then goes offand dies?? This was just way too vivid for younger viewers that couldof been watching. It even was disturbing to me!So my point is,I think the writers made the mistake of doing the"Vampire Saga" because that's where everything started to fall apart.I hope now since all the drama is over and Alex and Justin are singlethe show goes back to the way it was!
Although the story line isn't creative or original, it is still prettygood. The great story line has nothing to do with the horrible scriptwritten out. Every show that comes onto Disney Channel gets less andless funny even though the writers must think it's hilarious. A lot ofthe dialogs sound like a third grader wrote them and some of the stuffthey say is so random. All of the actors are great except for thefather and the main character, Alex, which should generally be theother way around. I do like how the actors were previously seen onDisney Channel before, such as the character who plays Justin was Larryon Thats So Raven, Alex was Micaela on Hannah Montana, and Max was alsoon another Disney Channel Movie. The worst part of the whole series are the special effects, whichshould be the other way around being a show about magic. In oneepisode, when the characters were swinging from a giant chandelier, youcan tell that the characters are really just standing there, thechandelier was fake, and the characters, the chandelier, and thebackground were all filmed in three different places. Along with that, the backgrounds never match what's going on. Nothing about the effectshave ever been good. The rest of the show is really good.
I am an older man, and was not a regular Disney Channel viewer, until Idiscovered "Wizards of Waverly Place". I started watching because Ilove the DeLouise family-hilarious. I became hooked, and was amazed atthe acting talent displayed on the show. I was a professional actor forsix years, until I discovered there's no money in it. Selena Gomez isfantastic, her Alex Russo is the epitome of the "bad girl with aheart". Once I had watched for a while, I discovered she is also agifted singer, and I now have both of her discs, and play them in mycar, all the time. Thank you Disney for a wonderful show, and a newmusical talent for me to listen to. I only wish Wizards would go onforever. (Though I now watch "Shake it up" and "Good Luck Charlie").((We won't mention Phineas and Ferb!))
the best to watch this show is the very adorable Selena Gomez.shesteals every scene she is in.even though her character Alex Russo isn'talways the best person, miss Gomez'real life likability shinesthrough.Alex isn't deliberately mean-just lazy, looking forshortcuts, like a feminized version of mike seaver of growing pains.andunderneath the sarcasm and scheming of Alex,is a heart for her familyand friends.she has helped Justin get his first kiss, helped her momhave the quincernera she didn't get to have as a teen, stuck up forharper at Gigi's loser party, helped Hugh bond with his parents, arrangedfor her dad to relieve his days at the asteroid belt, and helps herelderly neighbor.a sweetheart beneath it all.
When I first saw an episode of this show, I thought it was funny..but Ialso thought the main character...AKA Selena Gomez..was a very rudeteenager..who apparently just said and did just about anything shepleased..even when her parents forbid it. The family is made up ofwizards..except for the Mom..who isn't..but she married the Dad who is.He is trying to teach his kids...all with magic abilities, to beresponsible and manage not to use magic they aren't quite skilled atusing yet. Of course, they use it anyway...causing all kinds ofdisasters..but they never seem to learn any lessons from doing it..asthey do it over and over. Selena doesn't fit in...and seems to onlyhave one real friend..who dresses in tacky self-made outfits that wouldlook more suitable on Cyndi Lauper than a teenage school girl. Theolder brother is shown as the "chosen one"..who is suppose to be themain wizard someday...I am not sure why. The younger kid doesn't getmuch of a storyline...he just has one liners and seems to just hangaround, eat and sometimes annoys everyone. Random characters are shownfrom time to time...(the vampire girlfriend for the older son, Justinis an example of that)..but there are few that stay and become part ofthe entourage. I wondered if these people/wizards had ANY friends orpeople who come to visit, etc. It didn't seem like that happens at all.Ms. Gomez is clearly labelled to be the "next HUGE Disney star"...andalso has a singing career outside of this show...(all Disney kidsapparently are required to do a music video at some point). While sheis very cute...I fail to see her doing anything major outside of thestuff Disney shoves her into. Disney is in the business of makingmoney..which comes first over truly entertaining us with amazingentertainment like Disney once did years ago. Kids and teens laugh atthis stuff, buy all the junk generated by these shows and drive theirparents insane while doing it. When Disney finally does some originalstuff again..it might finally produce some memorable shows and movies.This..however is not one of those at all.
I started watching this last year as I got the Disney Channel last yearand this was on so I decided to check it out.I actually liked this show as it centres on a family who are wizards.Alex(Selena Gomez who looks great in this) is the youngest who has twobrothers(Jake T Austin & David Henrie who is the splitting image ofPatrick Dempsey when he was younger in the 80s)and they live in NYCManhattan. Alex's father is a wizard while her Puerto Rico mother isn'ta wizard she is a mortal.Funny ,and smart wizards of Waverly place is the new teen supernaturalversion of Sabrina the Teenage Witch which was based on a young witch.Anyway if you like fantasy stuff that have vampires, fairies, wizards etcthen you will enjoy this.I'll give it an 8/10
I rate this movie 7 because , its not as awful as some of the otherDisney shows. Wizard of Waverly place is funny, great for kids , and itappeals to those magic lovers. Selena Gomez "Alex Russo" is a risingstar, she's nothing like Miley nor Demi she actually has "personality"Then you have David Henrie "Justin Russo" which is a good actor andpretty cute. He's the nerd trying to be cool. Finally you have Jake T.Austin "Max Russo" which is amazingly adorable. In a few years thatadorable is going to turn into fine. So overall this show is good , soif you haven't watched it go ahead and watch it. Trust me its not ascorny as it sounds!
Most shows on Disney for the past years have been seriously dropping inquality, from Hannah Montana, Suite Life of Zack and Cody, they wereamusing but they weren't good shows. Disney, in my opinion, had lostits good old magic from the Mickey Mouse days. However, Wizards ofWaverly Place has been a great show filled with excitement, drama, andcomedy. It had laughs and family and everything that you'd ever wantfrom a good old classic Disney sitcom just like the good old days withBoy Meets World. I will admit it, season three seriously dropped in itsamazement. However, the fourth season has been an amazing come backfrom its bad days, the fourth season is filled with the good qualitythat I remember from the first two seasons that always made me laugh. All in all, Wizards of Waverly Place is a great family show that hasbrought back the magic of Disney Channel which makes me proud to watchit.
