Two Hong-Kong cops are sent to Tokyo to catch an ex-cop who stole a large amount of money in diamonds. After one is captured by the Ninja-gang protecting the rogue cop, the other one gets his old Orphanage gang, dubbed the Five Lucky Stars, to help him. They dont like this much, but they do it.
Movie Photos:
We have taken some photos of "Winners & Sinners 2". They represent actual movie quality.
this film might start out kinda slow but once sammo Hung's introducedinto the action things get funny.backed by a bunch of crazy crazyfriends ranging from ladies men to institutionalised mental patientsHung's character has to go and find his missing friend (Jackie Chan)along the way some funny stuff happens like eating tainted grapes(youll see) to ordering dinner via mimes (seriously funny i nearlyended up crying) as well as the usual plot developments and coolfights.overall a really funny film that'll have you laughing at everycrazy gag and loving every fight (especially when Jackie and sammo getambushed in a house lol great fight)
I enjoyed this movie very much. The fight scenes are few but the comedy makes up for the missing action. I recommend this movie to anyone whos a fan of chinese slapstick comedy
Some films seem destined to have sequels. This is especially true if you have a multitude of popular stars that do not have to contribute to the whole film (and if one does not work out replace him), a boilerplate formula and financial success on the first movie. In fact, My Lucky Stars (1985) was more of a hit in HK than its predecessor Winners and Sinners (1983) with the original raking in 22M HK dollars and the sequel 30.7M HK. While I have grown in appreciation of the first film, I have also grown a little less interested in the first sequel though a few segments transcend above the mostly mediocre material. When watching this film it is good to think of this as an ensemble piece not a Jackie Chan or a Sammo Hung film (though Sammo did direct this in his most prolific period and after the success of The Own and Dumbo (1984)). That frame of mind might help in enjoying this uneven picture more. In the beautiful locale of Japan, Muscles (Jackie Chan) is chasing a corrupt Hong Kong cop (Lam Ching Ying: Mr Vampire) though an amusement park with the help of Ricky (Yuen Biao: Prodigal Son in an extended cameo compared to Winners and Sinners) until Ricky gets whisked away by a band of ninjas. This nice little 11 minute sequence of Jackie works well with the fight choreography and shows some nice jump stunts by Jackie. I am not sure of Sammo's use of slow motion in the beginning though. It just seems timed poorly (I have sensed this problem in a few of his movies like Mr. Nice Guy). There is also a strange scene where Muscles gets stopped by tourists to take a picture. If you were chasing a crook would you let yourself be stopped by tourists? Jackie needs help to find his partner. The help will have to come in the form of five trusted crooks since the cops could be spotted by the former HK officer. The ringleader is Sammo (once again having a horrific haircut) and he (after a stint in jail) has to recruit the old gang: Rawhide (Stanley Fung: The Owl And Dumbo), Sandy (Richard Ng: Shanghai Express), Herb (Charlie Chin) and Round Head (Eric Tsang who is in this movie instead of John Shum from the first film). They will be lead by a legitimate police officer Inspector Woo (Sibelle Hu playing basically the same foil role as Cherie Chung did in the first - I did say this was a boilerplate formulaic movie) who is consistently being hit on by the males (during a very tiring six minute gag) while having to take them to Japan. The whole second act of the film and the majority of the movie are the comedic sequences of Sammo getting the gang together, meeting the female assistant and going to Japan. While some of it can be funny (Richard Ng is almost always hilarious and those damn curly haired bus drivers), some of it is just strange like the Eric Tsang sequence of playing "fly" poker and some jokes just fill like filler. And there is that Bolo Yeung Sze cameo. When the third act starts with the appearance of Jackie Chan the pace of the movie goes from stagnant to ludicrous speed (interesting how the comedy segments were less fun than the action). Without giving too much away the haunted house fight segment with Jackie Chan going through the maze like corridors is quite good and the most talked about aspect of this film is the Japanese villainess played by female bodybuilder Nishiwaki Michiko in her first Hong Kong role (she did not speak Cantonese at the time) and her fight with Sibelle Hu. Her fight introduction (disrobes her kimono and then flexes) has also been mentioned in many male-written reviews. There are other fights with Lam Ching Ying and Lau Kar Wing that are quite good if a bit short. Also check out that nasty fall toward the end - breaking bodies for our entertainment. Fans of action films will find something to like in this movie. While it is quite uneven there are worthy scenes (especially the end and beginning) to watch several times. Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung fanatics will, of course, have to watch this, but on multiple viewings will probably only want to watch the first and third act. If you have not seen Winners and Sinners then see that film first. The comedy aspects did not work as well for me as the first movie and the characters seemed less in depth. Richard Ng was underused and that is enough to make me and anyone angry. I have the uncut R1 Fortune Star/Fox release which has a good transfer but no extras except trailers. The big minuses are the dubtitles and no original mono. The dubtitles are quite atrocious because of the amount of narration (voice over) on the English dub causing a huge amount of phantom subtitles if you listen to the Cantonese track (no one speaks but the words are there) and at least one questionable in taste Japanese imitation. Also since a lot of the humor is verbal, a lot is lost in translation. Here is another example of a Hong Kong R1 release that does not match the Hong Kong Legends R2 release for extras including a Bey Logan commentary (unless you would prefer a scholar like Stephen Teo doing your commentary).
Jackie's got a smaller, more serious role here, but I'd say it's worth it.You gotta have a penchant for goofy stuff though. This group is prettyenjoyable together, and the bits with Chan battling his way through theHaunted House is well worth it. Sort of a "minor" Jackie fil,m, it's wortha watch.
i like the first better, but this isnt the worst. very slow and stupid comedy like the first, not much jackie, only 2 1/2 action sequences. rent if bored dont buy.
Before we start, I need to set one thing straight. THIS IS NOT A JACKIE CHAN MOVIE! This is a film that features an ensmble cast of frequent hong kong players. Jackie Chan is included(and has one of the best fight scenes of his career)but is very limited. This is a fun stylish(very stylish)martial arts comedy. Starts off with an explosively funny and exciting car chase and a small fight.(ninjas in blue? Of course)This sets the plot in motion and the next hour is mostly comedy scetches that introduce the five lucky stars. The humor is very strange but very amusing.(also very juvinile,if that, but still very funny) It's interesting to see humor from other countries. A very different sense of humor than the US, but i like it. It is, however,an aquired taste(consider this your warning) The final fight scene(s) are among the most fun and original That I have ever seen, so even if you don't like the humor, the climax is alone worth it! Sammo is a fantastic director and if you like his style of directing, I highly reccomend it. I have seen all the movies featuring Jackie Chan as well. This is in the top 3 that i have seen. (the others being police story and rumble in the bronx) i also reccomend getting the dvd. the video is poorly dubbed and scenes are chopped up. the subtitles on the dvd is fantastic and the widescreen is great in a 1.85 aspect ratio.
This movie was very funny! Sammo Hung has a true sense of humor. There wasmore comedy than action present, but it works out just fine. Jackie isn'tthe star of the movie. I think it works out better that way. The moviewasn't meant to be all action, but comedy mostly. The cameos wereexcellent!! Dick Wei's usual villainous role doesn't surprise me, but heshows off his moves and throws down in this movie!! Jackie, Yuen, andSammo's chemistry on screen is incredible. I wonder when they trained at thePeking Opera School, did they ever think that they would use their skills onscreen? Anyway, Eric Tsang is a very funny, versatile actor. His childishantics in this movie are hilarious. If you want to watch hilarious HKcomedy, go meet the Lucky Stars!! They're all that and a bag of KungFu.
This "DVD" did not work in my DVD player. It worked only on my computer's DVD drive. Disc looked different on the side that is read, different than a normal DVD. Annoying. The movie was in high enough visual quality to watch the fight scenes. Maybe the more expensive DVD of this film can be played on ALL name-brand DVD players.
My Lucky Stars, the sequel to hit HK comedy Winners and Sinners, isanother huge serving of not-so-funny slapstick humour and irritatinglypuerile hi-jinx from Sammo Hung and pals; nevertheless, its still worthpersevering all of this silliness for the outstanding martial artsaction sequences that bookend the film. The movie opens in excellent style with kung fu cops Muscles (JackieChan) and Ricky (Yuen Baio) on the trail of Japanese gangsters. Afteran exciting car chase with an amazing jump over a transporter lorry, and a fight against ninjas in a theme park, Ricky is taken hostage bythe gang. Afraid that he will be recognised if he attempts to rescuehis partner, Muscles decides to enlist the help of his old orphanagepals, most of whom are now petty criminals. There then follows a tedious hour or so of lame comedy, in which thereunited childhood friends play repetitive practical jokes on prettycop Barbara Woo (Sibelle Hu) and generally act like immature morons. Ifyou can make it past this laugh-less garbage without switching off, then your patience will be rewarded with a terrific finalé in whichChan fights a series of foes in a haunted house, Sammo and friends takeon the nasty gangsters (including martial arts veteran Lam Ching Ying),and a memorable moment where Sibelle Hu has a scrap with a muscleboundgeisha, played by Michiko Nishiwaki.Whilst I'd happily recommend My Lucky Stars to fervent fans of fightaction (and of Chan in particular), those looking for a laugh might beadvised to seek their entertainment elsewhere (unless, of course, theythink that curly haired bus-drivers, jokes about rape, and silly songand dance routines are incredibly funny).6.5 out of 10, but just not good enough for me to round my rating up to7.
My husband says he loves all jackie chan movies, and this movie was in good shape and he enjoyed it. thanks

Is a very good movie...with sammo hung, and others very good actors. Have a good history, good actors, and much comedy!!
My Lucky Stars, the second installment of Samo Hung's Winners and Sinners series dissapointed this reviewer. The story line is interesting, but nothing that anyone has never experienced before. Jackie Chan has a rather small role and the stunts are less exciting than usual. Chan's character (Muscles) discovers that his partner is kidnapped by a group of Japanese mobsters. In desperation, he calls upon his orphanage pals to lend a hand. The group, led by Sammo Hung's character, are a group of rowdy, delinquent, childish, sex-hungry maniacs. The story focuses on their bumbling antics, as the movie attempts to be funny. One scene in particular where the gang goes to a Japanese restaurant; one character (with the MOST obnoxious voice you could ever hear) tries to speak Japanese to the waiter to get his food, but ends up with a rubber frog on the platter. You can see the frog being moved by two thin strings. Overall, the effects and stunts are lackluster and Jackie's dubbing voice is... well, god awful. For silly toilet humour at best, give this movie a try. I recommend you stick to other Chan-Hung collaborations such as Winners and Sinners or Mr. Nice Guy.
one of the best..action comedy all together in one movie...no more else to say, just see it for yourself. no regrets...love it...
First off, Yuen Biao is in maybe a total of 15 minutes in the movie (I'mbeing generous).Jackie is in the first 10 minutes of the movie. Then the last half hour.Nowthat I got that out of the way, let me tell you what you do get in thismovie, a comedy staring Sammo Hung and the other guys. It's a funny movieand I enjoyed it. Even whatever fight seens there are, they are good. Irecommend you rent it first.
This film is silly and NOT A JACKIE CHAN FILM!!! Yuen Biao and Jackie Chan play officers tracking down a drug lord. When Yuen gets kidnapped Jackie enlist his childhood buddies, the Luck Stars, to help Jackie save him.
My Lucky Stars is a Sequal to Winners And Sinners, which wasn't so good. This one is worse than Winners And Sinners because the humor in this one is ten times more stupid, less action, and the quality is not good at all. Once again the reason I give this movie any stars at all because of Jackie Chan and his action scenes. The ending is one of the best action scenes you will find.
I never thought I'd see the day Jackie Chan would be fighting Ninja's...butto be honest, it wasn't the cringe worthy film I was expecting - far fromit, its very, very entertaining...As the car chase rolled onto the screen I thought to myself "this is bestfun I've ever had watching a Jackie Chan-Sammo Hung type film"...and it is,until half way where it seems to slow down. This film plays as a comedy-action film with a hint of the dirty dozenthrown in for good measure. Jackie is a chinese cop in Japan trying tosecure the release of Yuen Biao (who isn't in this film as much as I'd likehim to be - he is technically better in acrobatics thanJackie).Anyway, the police for some obsecure reason get Sammo Hung, a bad guy andforce him to rescue Biao from the Japanese - but Hung won't do it withouthis childhood buddies, who are all of course criminals - and all have theirstrange quirks...the characters are quite funny to watch, forexample....you've got a guy who's completley insane trying to move objectsvia ESP, you've got a smarmy ladies man who blows up jewelery shops, you'vegot the dumbo...etc, etc.The gang are also framed for a bank robbery and are forced into the rescueof Biao...and have the cover of criminals - and 20 million...Most of the film is set in Japan...I was expecting that it would soon forgetit was in Japan - but it didn't, to be honest it did a good job to showJapanese culture, and lifestyle - but I think it didn't do the ninja thingjustice.Sure there are lots of good ninja fighting sequences, but the ninjassometimes have suits on, sometimes they have different coloured head coverson - and they always seem to attack in daytime...when will film-makersrealise that Ninja's are highly-intelligent and use the night as a weapon,as part of their stealth - to assume they are easily beaten is a mistake -its a mistake Sammo remakes in his hit TV show Martial Law (episode: BadSeed)...Anyway, by the end of the film you don't really care what the plot was - younever do, you know it doesn't really matter, this film is a lot of fun untilmid-way where it really slows down for the sake of comedy - don't get mewrong, it is funny - but it sure gets repetitive...The action could have been a tad better...it tenses up when Jackie, et alstorm the Japanese gang's hideout (in a theme park! - I guess this is whereBeverly Hills Cop 3 got their idea from!) - the tension is increased whenyou watch Jackie fighting it out with veteran bad guy Dick Wei...that fightis pretty good, but its not as long or as punishing as it makes it out tobe. The highlight of the film has to be the Sibelle Hu / Michiko Nishiwaki fightand just seeing Nishiwaki in black leotards is worth the money. But its ashame that Sammo Hung and his friends never get to go toe-to-toe withNishiwaki, I mean Sammo Hung, et al, all have a weakness for women - thiscould have been used to great effect. There are problems I have with this film: it ends to abruptly, why isn'tthere a big long fight sequence with the head of the Japanese gang? Andwhere does he go when they've destroyed the Japanese gang?Anyway, its a hoot - and if you keep your eyes open you might see Bolo Yeungin a cameo appearance.Overall: 6/10
This movie has a nice mix of comedy & action. It's also the first movie inwhich I saw Michiko Nishiwaki. Anyone who likes fight scenes should watchthis movie. The scene between Michiko & Sibelle Hu is one of the best I'veseen.
This movie is actually based on the group that Jackie Chan was in when he was in the Chinese Opera School. His master named them his Lucky Stars. This movie is a great one to watch as Jackie does what he is famous for and beloved for. Buy this movie and you won't be let down.
