Epsidoe 2 Update: This show is asinine\sucks. ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** ***** The newly aired pilot is entertaining and comes with a good fill ofaction and compelling plot twists. Unfortunately, coming off the tailsof the successful unlikely-partnership-between-FBI-agent-and-civiliancrime mystery "Castle", "White Collar" will likely share the same fatemost shows Tiffani Thiessen's been on since "Saved by the Bell" havemet - a single season run.Despite a savvy writing staff, the star of the show Matthew Bomer'splayful portrayal of the master criminal is critically hampered due tothe hackneyed performances of Tim DeKay and Ms. Thiessen. If it weren'ttoo late to replace parts of the tired supporting cast, "White Collar"could really be a great addition to the USA lineup. The balance between drama, action, and intrigue are superb, the subjectmatter is thrilling, and the portrayal of a neo-noir anti-hero on parwith Pierce Brosnan's "Thomas Crown" is quite refreshing. But withstiff competition from "Castle" and an overpopulation of CSI-styleshows, I can't imagine "White Collar" will succeed even if thesupporting performances in the proceeding episodes improve. Even still,I look forward to watching the next few episodes and thinking of whatcould have been had the circumstances been different.
This review is from: White Collar: Season One (DVD) This show is wonderful! Whitty, well acted, and interesting story lines and writing. The characters spark with each other. It's fun and entertaining. This is my favorite show!
Think of White Collar as a little bit "48 Hours" (the Eddie Murphy,Nick Nolte classic) and a little bit "Catch Me If You Can" (theDiCaprio & Hanks rollick). "Law & Order" this ain't. Call it "fun TV".The premise: What do you do with an amazing criminal mind (whitecollar, of course) frittering away in a super-max prison, that he canapparently escape from at will? The answer soon comes when said geniuscriminal Neal Caffrey (Matt Bomer) offers to help the FBI agent whooriginally caught him solve a case that's been frustrating him foryears. Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) while wary, realizes this"may"...repeat "may" be a way to finally catch the bad guy.. WhiteCollar is another USA "Characters welcome" offering, and it's a greatone.Tim DeKay is pitch perfect as the agent who lives his job. He has akind of "Tom Hanks meets young Jack Lemmon" quality that is spot on forthe tone of the show. He's written as real guy in a tough spot. Hetruly loves his wife, but tireless dedication to "the job" causes himto forget anniversaries, and regularly arrive home after his wife islong 'a bed. His wife Elizabeth (Tiffani Thiessen) often eats dinnersalone... well, sort of.Matt Bomer, soon to be a household name, vaults from his supportingrole of Bryce on "Chuck" straight into a major lead role that fits himlike a glove... like he was born to do this. Along with class A hunkygood looks, Bomer also has a vulnerable quality that is quite touching.Ladies, he's Oooo so cute, slick, smart and gosh darn lovable, thatyour significant other may actually allow you to gaze... This show hassomething for everyone. The story line is not at all predictable. Youwant to watch how this might end.Tiffani Thiessen is actually a lovely surprise, having matured nicelyas an actress from her 90210 days. Amazing for a pilot, there is sweetgentle chemistry with her FBI hubby. This FBI version of the "truly odd couple" takes straight off on asmart, well written, snappy crime-solving adventure. The dialog iszippy, and once the obligatory plot setup is laid down, the laughs comeearly and often. This too makes White Collar good family entertainment. If the series follows the pilot's lead, there will be ZERO gratuitousviolence, another reason to appreciate the show. Caffrey charms anddisarms all creatures great and small, while using his near savantabilities to see what the FBI cannot. The lead characters are perfectlycomplementary. The casting is sublime. Even the score is hip, somethingthat USA recently seems to have cornered the market on.Personally I can't wait for the next installment of what promises to bea seriously entertaining and original show.
What do I need on a Sunday night? A good glass of wine and anentertaining series on the telly (to simplify it gravely). And WhiteCollar is just that. Great entertainment. Of course a handsome leaddoesn't hurt at all. Certainly I won't learn any new tricks and it'snot very educative, but that's why I also have Discovery and Historychannel, not to mention a library. The acting is fine, I like the way the characters develop and becomemore and more individual as the series progresses. All in all i find it very sleek show, though Bomer sometimes does lookpretty camp, not to say gay. Which does not bother me at all, but didnotice it. I have to mention though that the best characters for me areactually Elizabeth Burke and Mozzie...Am looking forward to the continuation of the show! Sometimes it's abit too sweet for my taste, but with Nurse Jackie, it's a pretty goodbalanced TV nutrition ;)
I wasn't expecting this item to arrive as quickly as it did. Very impressed. All discs work perfect. Made a great gift!
USA has been a great provider of action-comedy-drama shows for quite awhile; series like Monk and Psych have greatly entertained me. WhiteCollar is not short of the quality work USA can offer by any means. Thestory is fresh and new, although it did sort of steal the idea from theending of the movie Catch Me If You Can. I won't divulge into the storyat all, mainly because whenever I do that i usually give away too much, but I can definitely tell you that is it great, and every episode sofar in some way has a very interesting twist. The characters have veryunique personalities and you will easily take a liking to them - MattBomer really was the picture perfect choice for the main character,Neil Caffrey - charming looks and pitch perfect acting delivered theperfect character. The music is okay, there's nothing too amazing aboutit, but visually the show does some good things; how they position thecameras in some scenes were good choices, although sometimes a wee bitawkward. It might not be as good though if you don't start at the pilotepisode, but it's not fully required since for most of the newerepisodes they have a summary of what went on in the first few episodes.Overall though, this is a great series that is definitely worth yourtime to watch.
I like this show. Great casting, good stories. What more can you ask for? I'd like to see more of his benefactor and her daughter, both are gorgeous, would like to see their intelligence as well. And what a great place to live! The story about the girlfriend leaving clues is very interesting... can't wait to see that play out. Love the sidekick character as well. Keep 'em coming!
This review is from: White Collar: Season One (DVD) What a great show. It's interesting and clean. It keeps you thinking of how he will solve the problems. I can hardly wait for season 2 to be released.
This review is from: White Collar: Season One (DVD) This show is incredibly addictive. I love Neal and Peter and their dynamic. This show is very funny and I can't wait for the new episode each week.
I watched the first episode out of curiosity. It was kind of boring, and it wasn't AMAZING like everyone on TV said it was. The commercialsmake it seem as well written as Monk and as charming as Psych, when inreality, it will never survive as long as those two shows. I can tell. Matt Bomer is incredibly handsome, but I don't think his looks can makeup for his tasteless character. Supposedly he's a notorious criminalthat took the FBI agent, Peter Burke, three years to catch. Since theseason started, he hasn't really behaved like a masterminded criminal. He doesn't try to run at all, he never seems like he wants to commitany crimes. All he does is flirt with slutty girls half the time. Whydoes he flirt with every girl he meets, when he's so in love with hisgirlfriend, Kate? That's not very loyal. As for Peter Burke, (I don'tknow the actors name.) he doesn't have a great personality either.Either he's not that great of an actor, or he never has any greatlines. The other FBI agents are not very thrilling to watch. The onlyenjoyable character in this show is Peter Burke's wife. She is the onlynon-slutty girl in the entire show! Every other girl in this show is askank, but not her. She's nice, modest, and actually has a brain!Hollywood, we need more female characters like this in the media. Notevery girl in the world is a brainless bratty slut. That's whatHollywood thinks the typical girl is like, and it is very annoying. Another thing about this show, the humor is very dry. The actors'delivery is terrible. It's like the actors are not even trying! I haveonly laughed maybe once in all five episodes that I have seen. It'skind of depressing how much American humor has been dumbed down overthe years. If you are looking for a witty, charming, enjoyable show to watch on aFriday night, watch Monk or Psych. They have everything that WhiteCollar doesn't. I won't be surprised if this show doesn't survive afterone season. I'm disappointed at the high rating for this show.
I've watched the 1st season and I'm hooked! It's good, clean television. The characters are likeable, they work well together and I'm really enjoying the addition of side characters. I don't have cable so I have to watch on Hulu and it has been worth it! I intend to buy the 1st season on DVD when it's released and have begun enjoying the first few episodes of Season 2. Finally, something to look forward to!
I just started watching WC before a week n i've completed all the 3seasons(season 3 till Summer Finale) and let me say that you'll havelots of fun n will learn many tricks on how to charm anyone inseconds(of course from the lead character Neal Caffrey!). All in all, its a power packed TV series & in coming years USA n WhiteCollar will see a huge fan following behind them n the reason is prettyobvious.. 1) Storyline 2) Great casting 3) Amazing performances 4)Gripping twists in each episode.!! 5) Chemistry b/w NEAL CAFFREY n SARAELLIS!(personally i love them together) Roger that! WHITE COLLAR! You're a winner all the way!Love yeh, NEAL CAFFREY!
I seem an old TV Seial call "It take a thief" I somehow think thatwhite collar is basic off this old TV story line, I like the show, Idon't like the idea that the punch line is that they gave him a job andas soon as things isn't going their way, they always threat to put himback in prison, that is total unfair, even in it take a thief, AlBunday was allow to fail every now and then....But otherwise I like theshow, I have make it a part of the shows that I schedule to watch, Ijust wish that they would review the story line a little more and takea closer look at the old television story it take a thief, thy mightlearn something.
Recently I watched numerous pilots of new shows that have come out thisyear, and 'White Collar' is one which came out on top.To begin with, the pilot immediately caught my attention. I liked thatthey didn't make Burke an idiot like they normally do. In fact none ofthe characters are made out to be naive or stupid, which is refreshingin television nowadays. I also found Burke and Caffrey's relationshipvery charming- the writers didn't pretend to make them dislike eachother and to have Caffrey forced upon Burke but instead they haverespect for each other and at separate times they both show the levelof their friendship with each other.I found the show charming and funny. It is finally a show that doesn'ttake itself seriously 100% of the time. You have the nice balance ofthe personal struggle of Caffrey to find Kate mixed with the episodesstoryline, a balance which I think works effectively.Definitely watch this show if you enjoy something that is both easy towatch and entertaining.
Usually when TV reviewers say smart, witty, or charming, what theyreally mean is the show has the potential to be those things. WhiteCollar is one of the few shows that actually delivers. Between thedeviously charming Neal Caffery (Matt Bomer) and the surprisinglyclever Agent Peter Burke (Tim DeKay) this show was off to a wonderfulstart. Throw in a few supporting characters that are more than names ona cardboard cutout and you have the makings of a true hit.USA proves once again that the tagline about Characters Welcome is morethan just an advertising gimmick. With such well developed characters, the plots almost seem secondary. The writing falters a bit in someepisodes and there are plot holes galore in others, but overall thewriting is tight and creative. The plot moves along, and serves as achance for our beloved characters to develop even more.I'm even happier that this show shies away from traditional archetypes. You have an understanding wife who has her own career and personality, but she is secure in her marriage, that the normal, everyday problemsare just that, and are not used to create extra plot tension. There isthe Probie Agent who is a lesbian about who Burke claims that they"Don't Ask, Don't Care," and who is shown to be in a stablerelationship with an actual woman. Then there is the tension betweenthe two leads. I'll leave it up to you to decide if the tension issexual, or merely the result of an intense, nearly decade long, game ofcat and mouse.
White collar is a worth watching series. It has all the elements ofComedy, Thriller, and Romance etc. Neal has a great character. He is awhite collar criminal and he is working with FBI as consultant to helpthem in solving their cases using his extraordinary skills andexpertise. The chemistry between Neal and Peter is totally amazing and believable.Mozzie is also a very entertaining character. In short it is a fantastic show. It has great individuals playing alldifferent roles. FBI people has great role. They are well organized. Ihighly recommend this series.
This isn't discovery channel. It's about as believable as thinking thatCSIs interrogate witnesses. If you want thought out dialogue and plot, watch HBO's Rome or BSG. There isn't much that's meaningful here, butwho in hell would look for it anyway? I'm rather surprised to see thevehemence with which people are denying the quality of this show. Whatdid you expect, NOVA? This is a buddy cop drama. Sure, it has somelaughably contrived moments (serendipity seems to follow Matt Bomeraround like an overly affectionate puppy), but it's all in good fun.Mostly, I think the writers are simply attempting to show what acharmed life Bomer lives in comparison to his working stiff Fedpartner-- perhaps to a fault. These moments faded quickly after thebasis was set-up (but aren't many pilots like that?).I was equally surprised to see someone unhappy with Tim Dekay'sperformance. Call it girlish bias, but I adore the man, and he bringsto the character a certain... humanity. It was nice to see that theydidn't fall into the smart guy/dumb guy routine: Dekay's Fed characterstarts out smart as a whip, and he stays that way, matching thehilariously cultured and talented con-man step-for-step. And it was apleasant discovery, to find genuine chemistry between many of thecharacters. The writing isn't bad (it's not Monty Python or even SG1,but it's funny), even if the plots are mostly forgettable. That said, I'm following this series quite happily (and cursing Canadafor being so slow in releasing episodes), mostly because it's silly andthe music is wonderfully campy in a "haha, look, it's buddy-cop music, get it?" sort of way and Tim Dekay is hot. Because sometimes televisiondoesn't have to be done perfectly to be a good watch. It seems to me that it's a "love it or you don't" scenario, though Ifind the petty name-calling in certain reviews amusing in the extreme.
The show is entertaining and addictive. The interaction of the characters is what makes this show a must see. The two lead characters work together to solve white collar crimes, one is FBI, the other is former (or maybe still practicing) criminal on a work release. There is a light touch of comedy in their interactions with each other. They both work well together and are learning the perspective of the 'other side' from each other as they solve the crime. Both characters have appeal. Neal easily stretches the rules to get what he wants, Peter goes by the rules. But you can see Peter working on Neal to keep things legal, and Neal's pushing Peter towards the boundary edge of the rules. Peter is likable, very clever, by the book, knows a lot about Neal and is good at figuring out what Neal is up to. Neal is clever and has his own agenda that he conceals from Peter (or does he?), which is part of a story arc mystery for the first season. These two, Neal and Peter, respect each other, and work as partners, but the game is on between them. You are also treated to gorgeous shots of New York that make a beautiful backdrop when these guys go outside. I watched these episodes many times over, and can't get tired of it because its that good.
This review is from: White Collar: Season One (DVD) From the very first episode, it beomes obvious that White Collar is not your run of the mill cop show. This is creative, entertaining and does have enough excitement for anyone. Top it off that both my wife and daughter enjoy the "eye candy," and I actually get to watch the show without being interrupted with unrelated conversation. There are belly rolling moments with high tension, but ALWAYS a twist to keep your imagination going. In short, this is an awesome program with all the perfect ingredients for a long run.
There are many great television series currently airing, but WhiteCollar seems to be the only show that's enjoyable to watch whilstconcentrating solely on a core set of characters. Most shows try for the diverse cast where you follow the storyline ofmultiple characters as they journey through their lives and followhilarious or dramatic experiences. This is what allows White Collar tostand apart from most shows, although they are all unique and enjoyablein their own respects.Matthew Bomer, Tim DeKay, Willie Garson, Tiffani Thiessen (Saved by theBell!) are the core characters in this show, mainly Matthew Bomer andTim DeKay, but each actor excels and the show is delightful since theacting is just as great as the uniqueness of this show. Although thescenarios might seem a bit intense, without such dramatic cases, thestory would cease to be riveting. The scenery is refreshing, the casesare interesting, the acting is superior, and the directing is flawless. It's refreshing to see the show tie in Neil Caffrey's personal life, mysteries, and love life whilst maintaining the captivity of the mainplot. The humor is subtle, neat, and perfectly executed.I hope this show continues to carry and thrive, I'll definitely beputting this on my list of overall favorite television shows.
