As John thinks about growing up, Jeremy convinces him to go to one more, for the daughter of the Treasury Secretary. Each catches the eye of a daughter of the host. Jeremy scores with Gloria, who proves to be a psycho clinger John wants real romance with Claire, but she has a boyfriend, a privileged hound. Can John convince Jeremy to stick around long enough so he can woo Claire, and can he tell her the truth about himself before she finds out from someone else? What if he messes up?
Alas! Behold a film that has rivaled the likes of Batman Begins at thebox office and left several films (such as Fantastic Four) dead andbloody compared to it's rave reviews and amazing box office results. Now what would you say a comedy usually grosses? 50-60 million seemsabout the right amount, but this comedy (an R rated film no less!)hassoared to 200 million bucks in the US alone. Now with such popularityyou always have to wonder, is it that good? My answer for WeddingCrashers, yes.We have two best friends who have known each other for many a year andcrash weddings based on numerous rules left behind by a man named Chaz(Will Ferrel's brilliant cameo role). And what a pair they are. Vaughnand Wilson were born for they're parts. Each one play they're givenroles with a unique and definitive personality, and pull off the jokesand situations with pitch perfect timing. Rachel McAdams is funny, charming, and so beautiful that it hurts the eyes. She plays theconfused woman in love with great subtlety and care. and pulls it offbeautifully, as does Owen Wilson as the confused man. Chris Walken doeswell enough, his character is not as thoroughly written, but he getsthe job done. Isla Fisher is cute and fit for a strait jacket, asdescribed. Will Ferell is absolutely hillairious as the king ofcrashing whom lives with his mother. All in all strong performances allaround.Writing! Here is the strongest point about this film. The dialog isabsolutely perfect. The overall plot is above average. There are a fewmoments that aren't very believable, but it is very witty, raunchy andoften unexpected or uncalled for. The writers handle the love storybetween John and Claire beautifully. It is so well played that youyourself feel slightly in love and confused. Directing. Here is where I was a tad disappointed. Th director doesn'tdo badly, but he doesn't add much to it. The best thing WC's directordoes is his handle on they love between John and Claire. It is handleddarkly and playfully. He does well with bringing the feelings onto thescreen. Sadly, he doesn't add much quirkiness to the comedy, neitherdoes he try that hard with the material. He unwittingly left massiveportions of the comedic work to the stars, and does little with thelaughs himself.Final Grade: 9/10 A
i really suspected you know one of those movies that went high in thebox office but was reviewed poorly but it really wasn't what isuspected. I mean it was funny and was kinda predictable. But like isaid it did do well in the box office and was not badly reviewed. Itsnot my favorite movie and i think i may only see it one more time in mylife i will definitely not forget. Owen Wilson was better than ithought to and so was Vince Vaughn these two should do more moviestogether. And i also like the whole plot of it two wedding crashers whogo to a big wedding and come out with something they didn't expect. Butoverall it was a really good movie.
"Wedding Crashers" is without a doubt one of the best comedies that Ihave seen recently. Every person on this Earth must have told me atleast one good thing about this film. I'm so glad that I watched it,for the most part, I'm just going to tell which sequences I enjoyed themost and you would get a kick out of as well. One of the rules for these wedding crashers is that they do not take agirl's "virginity" because she might get attached, when Vince'scharacter is not aware that the girl he just slept with was a virgin, she goes crazy on him and he just wants to get away from her. The scenewhere he is in bed with her and she's trying to get an "adventurous"side for him, I was on the floor laughing. It's just a great movie andOwen and Vince had great comedic chemistry.8/10
wedding crashers is by far one of the most hilarious comedies i haveseen in the year 2005!!! owen Wilson and vince vaugn play two30-something divorce mediators and friends John Beckwith and JeremyGrey who share the hobby of crashing weddings in order to pick up womenfor a one night stand. however, when they attend a wedding of thedaughter of the secretary of the treasury, one of them gets intotrouble (the girl wants a committed relationships) while the otherfeels like he has met his true love, but his true love already has aboyfriend.the reason why this movie is so funny is the fact that Wilson and vaugnwork so well together on screen.
I didn't find Wedding Crashers to be the lark it appeared to be inpromos. Call me old-fashioned, but when the basis of an activity is tolie in order to get something from someone else, then I don't findthose who do that admirable or worthy of being the "good guys." Theonly way that works is is you give back to those you lied to in equalamounts, and that doesn't happen in Wedding Crashers. It is all aboutusing others, and that isn't fun.On top of that, Wedding Crashers was as predictable a movie as I haveseen in the past 10 years. The opening collage of crashed weddings wastoo long, but it only took about 15 minutes to guess what would happento the main characters who had spent years callously using others ...they would finally discover love. Duh. It would have been funnier ifthey had met some women who were better at using them than they were atusing women.Wedding Crashers creates a whole mythology that is interesting, but notreally very funny. I gave it a 5.
This buddy flick is about two divorce lawyers who act like collegefreshman. They chase women by crashing weddings (surprise!). Theirlifestyle appeals to the adolescent male fantasy of drinking, sexualpartner variety, and freedom from commitment. Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn are quite likable characters who, ratherthan act, comfortably play themselves (pretty much as they do in all oftheir films). There's nothing new or surprising here, and unfortunatelyis generally un-funny. It's about as bad as Old SchooI, and I don'tthink I laughed once. The script is a perfect example of bad writing,no plot logic, and predictability. When will these film executives stop funding forgettable work likethis? It's a shame to see Wilson & Vaughn's obvious talents wasted ondreck like this.Save your $3.99 for anything else.
Vince Vaughan is Hollywood's most underrated funny man. In WeddingCrashers, Vaughan plays Jeremy Grey, a wise-cracking serial weddingcrasher intent on picking up as many girls as possible. He is joined byhis best friend, John Beckwith (Owen Wilson). Together the two wreakhavoc on the weddings of total strangers, as they sleep with a bevy ofbeautiful women. When our two conniving heroes crash the town's biggest wedding, thingsstart to go awry. Beckwith becomes immediately smitten with ClaireCleary (played with ease by Rachel McAdams). To make matters worse,Claire is the daughter of Treasury Secretary William Cleary (abrilliant Christopher Walken). Meanwhile at the same wedding Grey meetsGloria Cleary (played by Aussie starlet Isla Fisher). While she seemsnice enough, Grey quickly discovers she is not what he expected. Therest of the movie follows the two leads as they weasel their way intothe Cleary family circle, all the while trying to win the hearts oftheir respective crushes. While the movie (and subsequently the laughs)fall away slightly near the end, there is no doubt this movie willbecome a cult classic over time. There's even an unnecessary, terriblecameo from Will Ferrell (hey, I love the guy but he is useless inthis). Vaughan is clearly having a ball in this, while Wilson does agreat job of playing the foil. Pop this DVD in the player and enjoy ariotous time.
This movie kicked tail. We saw it this morning, yes, you read thatright, we saw it in THE MORNING at the 10am showing. It was so good. There were many good scenes that I can't even start to begin. The partwhere Vince got raped by crazy lady was priceless. Or the nakedpainting that was done? Or how about the part where Vince asked Owen ifhe did the motorboat? Haha. I laughed so hard during this entire moviethat I forgot that I even went to New Mexico Military Institute withOwen from 1985-87. He is the next action/comedy star of the earth. After the movie, I had a good salad and played Donkey Kong at BuffaloWings and Things. I suggest this movie to anybody who wants to laugh, cry and scream at the same time.
Groundbreaking humor it is not, but who needs that in a summer full of mass destruction and water leaks?
Jane Seymour is no Dr.Quinn in this movie. I was surprised she did thisone scene. She has 4 kids. I wonder what her kids think when they seethis scene. But if it's OK with her, it's her business not mine.I am an old guy. When you watch movies like Wedding Crashers and thencompare it with movies back in the 1940s and 1950s what a difference insociety. Old movies were all G. No vulgar language, less emphasis on sex. It ismy opinion this is not good for society. We are becoming and immoralnation. It is hard to find a movie that is OK for the family. Hollywoodhas given up. It is easier to just push sex.
A very funny movie, with great acting by all, and a surprise cameo.Much better than Dodgeball, Anchorman, and other offerings from thesame crew. The story was fairly compelling, and a great number of funnymoments.Definitely not recommended for the under 15 set, generally quite lewdwith a substantial amount of nudity as well as sexual themes. Thelanguage is also not at an elementary school level. The movie even sort of makes a point by the end, something that isoften missing in slapsticky comedies from this crew. All in all, an enjoyable flick. Go see it when it comes out Friday!
I know some people thought that Anchorman and Old School were greatmovies, but I think they are overrated (though still funny).I attended the sneak preview for Wedding Crashers Wednesday. Thetrailers made it look like the movie would be good for a few childishlaughs, but I have to be honest, I didn't expect much. I was happilysurprised. The last time I laughed this hard was the first time that Isaw the original Meet the Parents in the theater. There were a coupleof times I was literally in tears. It's hard to go wrong with Vince OR Owen, and you have them BOTH!As I was walking out of the theater, people were laughing and jokingabout the movie with their friends. One woman came up to me and toldme, "If you didn't think this was the funniest movie you've seen in along time, then you were asleep!"
Wedding Crashers was an extremely hilarious movie from start to finish.Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson were absolutely great, as well as RachelMcadams and Christopher Walken. If you enjoy a good laugh, then Ihighly recommend this movie. Isla Fisher was also amazing at actinglike a crazy clingy person. The whole Cleary family was highlydysfunctional which made the whole movie all the more entertaining. From the homophobic grandmother to the homosexual son it was a very oddand funny family. Will Ferrell's crazy role at the end made the movieway better than it already was and all the bad things that kepthappening to Vince Vaughn throughout the movie were riotous. Again Ihighly recommend this movie! Trust me, wedding crashers is worth the 2hours.
I admit that Wilson and Vaughn ham & egg pretty well together, and theplot breezes along quickly. However, it cannot move fast enough topaper over the totally implausible plot failures which made watchingthe film a bit difficult. These two scammers would never have been invited to the Secretary'sshore compound. Sorry - claiming to be related to Aunt Nellie and UncleEd, or whatever, would never, ever get them to the villa or on theyachts. Once identified, the Secretary - and his daughters - wouldnever have allowed them to marry these two grifters. I don't care howegalitarian we pretend to be - it would never occur. Everything aboutthem was transparently false. The nymphomanical daughter? Oh, she's a keeper! Not!!! And what aboutthe age difference? What on earth would she see in Vaughn? Sack, orwhatever Claire's boyfriend was called? A more reptilian brute you'd behard pressed to find. A Lodge? They've been going out for 3 and 1/2years? Never. He crumbled so quickly into stereotype that he would havebeen discovered for the cad he was years before. While I wanted to immerse myself in the film, the total implausibilityof the leaps of faith required to watch in earnest simply overwhelmedme. While we all know that the families of the powerful often have allsorts of hidden misfits and oddballs, this one takes the cake, down tothe RISD student. And, frankly, I was waiting for Mr. Walken to go psycho, pull out apistol, and dispatch any number of characters.
Wedding Crashers is a fun comedy that works simply because thefilmmakers know what to do with what they've got. The great humor ofWedding Crashers is not found in the cleverness of its script or thecreativity of its story, but rather in its lead actors. Had anyone butOwen Wilson and Vince Vaughn been the leads, this movie would havetanked. They are both famous for that congenial charisma that so manypeople find humorous  the type that makes them come off as the funbuddies that we all wish we could call up on a Friday night. DirectorDavid Dobkin must know this, because he gives Wilson and Vaughn plentyof scenes to show off the qualities that have made them two ofAmerica's funniest and most likable stars. To fulfill the perfect cast, Rachel McAdams and Christopher Walken fillin the necessary roles. McAdams again reminds us why she has become sopopular in the past year, glowing with her vibrant smile and charm thatinteract perfectly with every character on screen, especially Wilson's.Christopher Walken, among his many extraordinary traits, is famous forhis dry, sarcastic sense of humor  revealed through his one of a kindvoice. He gets a chance not only to earn some laughs in a way that onlyhe can do, but also to play the role of the amiable father figure withthe great advice. Make no mistake, though  underneath this film's main selling point ofa couple of funny guys going around and crashing weddings to sleep withgirls (an idea that is just about concluded within the first 15minutes)  is a sappy, conventional chick flick. I use that termcarefully though, because Wedding Crashers never actually falls victimto the typical stereotypes of your average chick flick. It avoids thembecause of its great cast and the chemistry they all share on screen Âwhich can appeal to just about anyone who enjoys a good laugh. Itconceals the fact that the script is probably one of the worst excusesfor a comedy within the past year. What's great is that we never haveto look that far  because the characters all seem to be enjoyingthemselves too much, and they make the film just as enjoyable to watch.
I hate seeing reviews containing the term, "this summer's best datemovie." What it usually means is the plot centers around a guy who ishalf-whipped at the beginning of the movie. Then, by the time Meg Ryangets done with him at the end, he is completely whipped, a mere shellof his former self. We are led to believe he is happy.Wedding Crashers is a "new date movie." It is about men and women, thelies they tell, the sex they enjoy, the fun they have, and...if theyeventually become domesticated at the end...its without giving up whatmade them special in the first place. The trailers and plot summariesfor Wedding Crashers may lead you to believe that the movie is aboutthe adventures of two lying and lecherous guys. But, that is only halfthe story. The women in Wedding Crashers are smart, dynamic, deceitful, and damn sure, every bit as funny as their male counterparts. Womenwill love this movie, too.Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn play it super cool as two masters of the"Wedding Crash" -- freeloaders who cruise the Washington wedding scenein hopes of bedding down love-hungry bridesmaids. Against betterjudgment and the rules of "The Crash," the pair become over-involved atthe wedding of the Secretary of The Treasury's daughter. Violatingtheir usual hit and run mantra, both join the family for an extendedparty at the official's estate. Here, the casting of Christopher Walken as Secretary Cleary can almostbe seen as a decoy. When you see Walken in the cast, you expect crazy. But he doesn't come close to the lunacy displayed by his wife, son, daughters and especially his mother. The hijinks involving Wilson andVaughn and the various members of the wedding party are fresh, surprising, and for the most part, hilarious. Within it all, a lovestory sneaks up on you like a full nelson and draws you in before youhave time to resist. There would have been so many formulaic ways to create a sappy"date-movie" ending out of this story, but thanks to a fantasticscript, hysterical performances by Wilson and Vaughn and the freedom ofan R rating, Wedding Crashers remains true to its characters. There isno phoniness. We loved these guys at the beginning. We love them at theend. They have not changed for love. Certainly a date movie for today's times, Wedding Crashers says we canbe flawed, crude, and chronic liars, and instead of someone being outthere to save us, there is someone out there to match us. I found themovie to be refreshing, clever, heartwarming, but most of all, simplyhilarious.
Hollywood exercises its right to be raunchy in the often-hilarious R-rated Crashers, a film that also reaffirms Vince Vaughn as one of our best comic actors.
Wedding Crashers is better than the trailer shows it out to be, makeyou laugh quite a few times until the ending, but it stays less thansuperb.2 career-successful bachelors have a habit of crashing in at weddingswith fake identities to exploit the romantic mood of the best ladiesand get lucky all season long. This recurs until one of them .... youknow, falls into a marsh called love. The other gets stuck by apsychotic possessive nymph and both of them see their lives taking turnaltogether while attending the US Treasury Secretary's daughter'swedding.75% of the movie holds the humor well with occasional wisecracks andscrew-ups. 25% was the sentimental part, which, oh well, had to bethere if a guy has to convince his girlfriend to come watch the moviewith him and not get beaten up badly later on.Vince Vaughn has finally hit it well with his comic talent. I didmention in a previous comment for Mr & Mrs. Smith than Vaughn shouldconsider serious movies for better recognition, and still stand bythat, but this movie will definitely boost up his value among castingdirectors at Hollywood. Vaughn can still play a sarcastic-fast talkinglead in a serious movie. He definitely is no Harrison Ford but he canbuild a class of his own.Owen Wilson, on the other hand, did an OK job. It was his character whofell in love in the movie and started changing the flow of the storyaround, but in my opinion could not match up with Vaughn's comicacting. I'll praise Wilson because he did "try." However, seeing RachelMcAdams in this movie has motivated me to watch another movie which Iwas actually least inclined to check out - the Notebook. The first timeI saw McAdams on the big screen, like many may have, was a spoileddirty blonde teenager in the Rob Schneider comedy "The Hot Chick."Thereafter she has starred in the Notebook and Mean Girls, won criticalacclaim for her performance in the former and has won a role in theupcoming thriller "Red Eye." Not only is she pretty as a brunette, butalso shows natural acting talents and ability to portray simplicitywell.Supporting cast by Christopher Walken and Will Ferrell (yes, he had tobe there) was a well done job, and same's with the lesser known, yetvery attractive ladies who played un-named bridesmaids throughout themovie.Do watch the movie if you like comedy. Leave your brains and logicalthinking aside for the 2 hours you will dedicate to this movie (andyour companion if applicable). There are loose ends towards the end,and thats when you start waiting for the movie to finish. But until theloose-ends, you will enjoy the movie and laugh out loud!
Perhaps this movie really does portend the end of civilization as weknow it. The acting was terrible, the jokes refried, can it be that itsgood premise was enough to seduce the audience. Probably. It has allthe earmarks of a pitch grown to hasty green light and a wild time hadby the cast at the world's expense. Look at Walken for instance, I felt sorry for him, he should have knownbetter, unless he just needs the money. It is symptomatic however of how low standards have fallen for comedy. And how easy it is to make people laugh. Having walked out on Meet TheFokkers after the first fifteen minutes, I can say that this is notquite as inane, but is equally unfunny. Thank goodness there is a minimum of ten lines here. I honestly can'tthink of anything good to say about this movie. What a bad summer forfilms so far, and this is keeping up that high standard. How about azero out of ten. But alas, I have to give it a one, nothing lower.
Saw a advance screening of this on Friday night. Hilarious doesn't dothe film justice. You know how in most films you remember the funniestparts and bring them up as you leave the theater? This one, it's hardto remember the best parts because there's so many of them.Unlike his previous films, where Vince Vaughn is usually reduced to therole of 'scene stealer', here we get a full dose of Babaganush, andhe's in his finest form since 'Swingers'. If you liked him in hisSwingers/Made persona, you'll love him here. Some of the riffs that hehas literally will have you holding your sides with laughter.Owen Wilson is Owen Wilson. You either like him or you don't. He's moreof the straight man in this film, although he does have some prettygood lines too, and he has great chemistry with Vaughn, especially inthe scenes where they're fighting. He's the ying to Vaughn's yang. The movie certainly 'earns' it's R rating. There's a healthy dose ofnudity, sex related hijinks, and f-bombs. But it's not 'gross out'humor a la American Pie. It pushes boundaries, but not just in a 'shockvalue' way. It's genuinely funny.I saw the movie with a bunch of critics, who usually the jaded type, were laughing their asses of as well. Guys will love this movie andwill be quoting it for the rest of the year. Girls will love it toothough, and there is a romantic subplot (cheesy at times, butforgivable given how funny the movie is), with Rachael McAdams doing agreat job as Owen Wilson's love interest. Isla Fischer plays the roleof 'scene stealer' in this one, serving as Vince Vaughn's psycho loveinterest. And Chris Walken is Chris Walken. So overall..inappropriate, hilarious and glorious. Better thanOldschool. Way better than Anchorman. Best comedy of the year, maybethe last couple of years.
