The Griswold family are on a quest. A quest to a Walley World theme park for a family vacation, but things arent going to go exactly as planned, especially when Clark Griswold is losing all thought towards a mysterious blonde in a red Ferrari.

We have taken some photos of "Vacation aka National Lampoons Vacation". They represent actual movie quality.
Got this movie for my Husband for his birthday. It's one of his all time favorite movies and couldn't believe I found it for him!! Amazon has all what you are looking for and you can't beat the free shipping!
The jokes and humour in this film are so subtle and impressive that Ifind something new to laugh at each time I watch it. I have been a big,big fan of Vacation for ages.Isn't Clarke's scene when he goes crazy in the car just magic! PraiseMarty Moose! When he robs the cash register and Ellen says to him'don't you wanna see the Grand Canyon?' and Clarke nods his head acouple of times and runs off. That is comedic magic.'Fifty yards' 'She was born without a tongue Clark...but don't worry, she whistles like a bird and eats like a horse.' Clarkes facialreaction to this line is very funny.Overall, a very funny film that has to go down as a real classic in thewhole of film history. It is up there with Felini and anything else youcare to name. Not quite as good as Revenge of the Nerds or Dumb and Dumber...butstill a real good drop. Isn't there a little part inside all of us that wants to go on apilgrimage to see a moose?Of course there is.
This is the best of the Vacation movie series, and one of the fewsuccessful films Chev Chase has done. It is a what can go wrong does gowrong vacation; the movie addresses vacation form hell scenarios of:relatives, in-laws, car problems, money problems, family trouble, with somesex appeal, and action added in to make the story spicy. Its a good movieand I gave it a 8 out of 10.
No, I am not a Chevy Chase fan, and the way things are going, I never willbe, but, this is the second best Lampoon movie of all time! It's classiccornball loser history. I'm sure when it comes to the year 2010, andeveryone has forgotten about the eighties and getting on with theirpatheticlives, they will look back on this fondly and laugh.
This is a comedy classic that should be in everyone's video collection. Who could resist Chevy Chases's dim-witted character Clark. All the actor's compliment each other in this movie and there is never a moment when you are not laughing or shaking you head at the pathetic situations Clark gets his family into.
SPOILERS Through!Vacation, to me, is a good comedy that is a definite must view ONCE butit isn't a definite must see over and over. Although, I did enjoy itwhen it came out so very long ago, I don't think of this as the bestcomedy ever or love it to the extent many others do.Some of the jokes were very, very funny and the actual premise wasGREAT!! A father takes his family on a road trip and along the wayexperiences-well-the good, the bad, the ugly-just about everything!Great premise for a fun movie and vacation WAS fun but it definitelyhad parts that were more crass then funny and I could see the multipleviewing thing grating on you after awhile.I agree with the IMDb user who mentioned te scene where the dog isdragged by the car was not necessary. But it wasn't just THAT onescene-many times the movie seemed to be trying for laughs through shockvalue. It wasn't necessary, the truly funny parts were the moresubdued. The "in your face" vulgarity that frequently surfaced wasn'tnecessary to make this pic good and actually detracted from it, Ithought. This was a movie that was sometimes HILARIOUS, sometimesmerely funny, but other times somewhat crude. I still think it was apretty funny comedy, if I met someone who hadn't seen it(don't knowmany) I 'd recommend they give it a viewing. But I don't think themovie's perfect by any means and have seen better comedies. One thingI'll mention is the ending which I LOVED!! That was a plus and in spiteof all the things that go wrong, the family members are grounded inlove and the ending makes that clear. Great ending and great cameo ByChristie Brinkley(I actually found the whole Brinkley subplot to be oneof the funnier things in the movie). And despite all the twists andturns of this family's incredible road trip it puts you in the mood foryour own vacation! Definitely had both positives and negatives but amust see once.
i have to concur with the the majority. this is a classic comedy and they reduce it to full screen. until they wise up and give it the treatment it deserves, count me out. morons.
If you already have National Lampoon's Vacation on VHS, or if you taped it off the Television don't bother to buy the DVD. Most movies have 5.1 Dolby Surround audio these days. Every so often you'll find an older movie that wasn't recorded in Dolby, and is on DVD in 2 channel Stereo. This movie was recorded in Mono. That's right folks, the sound only comes out of one speaker. That is almost unheard of these days. I love this movie, but it pains me to watch it on my home theater system. The sound doesn't even come out of the center channel, for me it comes out of the left. Luckily this DVD was a gift and I didn't spend any money on it. Let's just pray that the powers that be realize what a goldmine they have and remaster this movie, and add a few extras if they can.
Anyone who has ever embarked on a "Vacation from Hell" can and will readily identify with this hilarious film. NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION introduces the Griswold clan, headed by lovable-but-unlucky Clark (Chevy Chase), who takes his wife and two children cross-country for a dream vacation at Wallyworld. Problem is, the Griswolds encounter one disaster after another during their trek, from getting lost in East St. Louis to leaving a recently-deceased relative propped up in a lawn chair. If this movie isn't Murphy's Law unchecked, I don't know what is.With each hysterical mishap, the normally ebullient Clark inches closer and closer to "losing it." Having been planning and looking forward to this trip for months, Clark--ever the eternal, naive optimist--becomes more and more frustrated, shaken. Ticked. And when the golden moment arrives, when Clark finally loses control, the viewer is rewarded with sheer comic bliss.Imogene Coca, Randy Quaid, John Candy, and a delightfully voluptuous Beverly D'Angelo round out an exceptional cast. Director Harold Ramis keeps the story flowing smoothly from one disaster to the next. NATIONAL LAMPOON'S VACATION is by far the funniest and the best of the "Vacation" movies, and is more than worthy to take its place in anyone's video collection.--D. Mikels
i find this film so funny my partner and i still watch it regularly 23years after it was made . Chevy chase at his best!. from the openingsequence of trading in his car for the old family truckster to dancingwith a sandwich which is covered in dog pee i do nothing but sit with areal stupid grin on my face. my favourite scene must be after they dropoff aunt edna ( who happens to be dead ) he gives a speech to thefamily in which he states " i think you all must be f****d in the head" .i don't think chevy chase has made a better pic to date . watchingthe old family truckster cruise through the states fills me withabsolute glee and i'll keep on watching for a few years yet
The family vacation is something uniquely American. Taking the familyand heading out across the country, packed in a station wagon, is justbrimming with comedy and anecdotes. Just basing it on real life adventures(catastrophes) would be enough to fill a movie and bring back the memories(nightmares). Yet this film takes this loaded idea and fall completely flat with it. Everything is over blown and over the top. The gags are simple and cheap. Nothing is relatable. There is also a cruel dog killing scene, which issupposed to be 'hilarious', and even a few racist bits. To say the humor isforced is a understatement. It's like trying to jam a 10 inch brick into a5 inch round hole. A twisted eulogy to Aunt Edna in the rain on somebody's back porch isthis films only inspired moment. The rest is so absolutely basic it isalmost insulting. Some of the jokes are so bad they deserve a sort of 'dudhall of fame' mention. There's a very tired PSYCHO shower scene parody, auninspired 'lost in the desert' sequence, redneck humor, and even a threadinvolving supermodel Christine Brinkly that makes absolutely no sense. Thecharacters are just too general even for simple comedy. It's like nothingever got passed the storyboard phase. Yes it's fun to see comedy legends Eddie Bracken and Imogene Coca in'surprise guest roles'. Yet neither of them are given anything to work with. Coca is especially wasted. She plays a very cliched driven crabby oldlady. Her lines and nuances are so standard that her presence becomesboring, even transparent. This comedy is really sad. If it had been done with some astuteness itmight have really worked. Instead we are left with Chase whose deadpanhumor, believe it or not, is the one thing that really holds thistogether. Followed by NATIONAL LAMPOON'S EUROPEAN VACATION, which is evenworse.
What a classic. "Vacation" is one of those movies that gets better everytime you see it. Largely because any of us who have been on a cross-countryroad trip with our family can relate all too well with the mishaps andbizarre stops along the way. Chevy Chase makes the movie. He's the perfectnumskull with a heart of gold. **Potential Spoiler Ahead** My favorite scene is the very last: the"Screemy Meemy" roller-coaster coming down the hill with the Griswold's, RoyWalley, security guards, and even the S.W.A.T. team on board sharing themoment. Simply beautiful, and the perfect conclusion to their disastrousjourney. The T.V. version is actually not butchered too bad, however you should rentthe video or DVD if you want to hear the verbal exchanges that really tookplace in St. Louis, and inside "The Family Truckster" in Phoenix. HA HAHA!
When I first saw this movie on TBS I was laughing hysterically but knew I was missing something. So the next day I bought the unedited version and it was even funnier than before. Its too bad the sequels stunk though they would have been good with Anthony Michael Hall as Rusty.
This is definitely a screwball comedy that i laugh at every time i see it.Chevy Chase, Beverly D'Angelo, and Randy Quaid are all ahoot.I give 'Vacation' a 8.5 out of 10.Rated R for language and some nudity.
The Vacation movies are those movies, that you can watch again and again and probably never get bored of them. That doesn't mean I want to watch them that many times thank you. This particular Vacation movie is about crossing America with your family to get to Wally World for a holiday, and getting into all sorts of mishaps along the way. Chevy Chase is really good as Clark Griswold, although I did have moments where I saw Steve Martin in the role. The usual mishaps are here, along with many more, so be prepared for some laughs. I suppose my favourite bit was the 'subplot' with Christie Brinkley as the hot girl in the red car. She reappears constantly throughout the movie, and has some fun with Mr Griswold. The French kissing bit was absolutely disgusting, as was the family death bit. Disgusting! Although better than the 'toilet humour' as it came to be known thanks to movies like American Pie.Look out for a short but sweet cameo by an extremely dark haired Eugene Levy! He looks hilarious. Could that hair get any bigger? The problem with the Vacation movies and some other movies of the same genre, is that I never find them that memorable. Whether it's just me, or it's the genre I don't know. It's a nice movie to watch on a sunny afternoon (I want to go on holiday again!), perfect for a lazy afternoon, but memorable? Not really.
When I found out that this DVD is not presently available in stores, I was relieved to find that I would be able to purchase it through Amazon. Thank you for carrying this product and for shipping it to me so promptly. It arrived in excellent condition, and I was very pleased with your service. William Byers
Step right up with the Griswold family, & go on a trip to Wally Worldto see Roy Wally & his cast at a fantastic theme park in California.Yes, this is a thinly disguised family trip to Disneyland. It's a lotfunnier though when you put Director Harol Ramis (Ghostbusters, GroundHog Day) together with Clark (Chevy Chase) Griswold & his assortedfamily & characters.Clark sets up a vacation in which everything goes wrong on the way. Thematerial is so funny that it's theme & jokes are borrowed in 2006 filmLITTLE MISS SUNSHINE and won an Academy Award for best original script.Does this mean that this film would win the award for that if it cameout last year? The trip in this film & the borrowing of it reminds me most of when theGriswolds have an accident that disables the car & the guys at thesmall town garage charge Clark (my favorite Clark Griswold quote) "$450dollars for 4 bald tires & a tow." The film also addresses every middleaged married mans fantasy of being hit on by a drop dead gorgeous 20+year old blonde that is built like a dream while also having a foxylittle blonde wife too.I wouldn't mind doing stupid things myself to wind up in Clarks shoes.Of course he might be smart enough to take advantage of the situationor maybe not. The happenings at Wally World are a hoot & a good time,so this film never really lets you down.
This is a great classic and my second favorite Chevy Chase film. European Vacation is my favorite but may be hard to relate to if you never visited Europe before 1980. Unfortunately the DVD version has been edited for political correctness. Part of the scene where they get lost and ask for directions has been deleted. Don't buy the DVD if you like original uncutversions of movies.
Although the product description states that the Blu-Ray comes coded with AC-3 sound, it is actually only DTS-HD-1.0. Yes 1.0. That means it is mono, not even stereo. Do not not get burned like I did by buying this absolute waste of a disc.
The picture may be only a bit better than the previous DVD releases...the sound is ridiculous and the 43 second intro from 2003...weak. I do agree that the cover art also sucks but I certainly don't care if the disc delivers the goods...this doesn't. Don't bother to upgrade from your normal DVD..its not!
