A US battleship on its way to be decommissioned is the target for a ruthless gang of terrorists. Fortunately, there is a hero, and hes the cook. Single handed, (well almost, hes helped by a beautiful woman) he makes life difficult for the terrorists.

This review is from: Under Siege (DVD) This moive is packed with great actions. It is the one of the best Steven Seagal movie. The storyline may be a bit silly but it is great entertainment.
this is best action movie ever, proving seagal king of butt kickingmartialarts action movies, to me forget about norris, chan, andleei believe seagal can beat them all at he same time, in all his movieshe rarely gets a scratch on him, do u no y, because he is aikidostyleis better then all three them, forget about his acting but nobody caresabout that just enjoy the movie and watch seagal rampage his way throughthemovie.
This movie was made when Steven Seagal was at his prime.A group of terrorists highjacks the USS Missouri, and making demands onthe US government. It's up to the lowly cook (Steven Seagal) to savethe day. This is one of the best movie Steven Seagal made. It's also probablythe only big budget movie he's starred in. The best actor in this movie probably is the battleship itself. All theexciting action scenes relates to the workings of this ship. The firingof the Tomahawk missile, and the 16 inch guns. The team of Seagal,Eleniak, and Busey, and Jones were spot on for the act. They chose the right backdrop for the movie. Being inside a battleshipmakes for many opportunity for good action scenes.
Masquerading as the ships cook, one man army Casey Ryback is forced tofighting off pirates who want to commandeer his ship and its nuclearcapabilities. The DVD cover proudly boasts that this is Die Hard on a boat!, and theybe right. Because of all the shallow, and at times painful imitatorsthat followed Bruce Willis' action molder in 1988, Under Siege is rightup with the best of them. It's of course a complete no brainer, onewhere the outcome is inevitable, Seagal we know will don his usualblank expression and beat the living daylights out of all comers, andeven look cool in the process!. Thankfully the action sequences arehandled excellently by director Andrew Davis, this is not out and outcarnage, and with Tommy Lee Jones and Gary Busey having the time oftheir villainy lives, Under Siege just really rocks the action genreboat. Not one to look too deeply into, lest one is obsessed with token tottyErika Eleniak that is, but certainly a film that is as much fun as itis knowingly dumb. 8/10
Absoultly stunning and a hot chick makesit even better but the guns are good andthe visiuals are stunning
typical steven seagal movie, he will deliver plenty of action, and always has a person in the film who dislikes him and becomes his enemy. set aboard a ww 2 abttle ship, this movie is historical ijn the fact, hollywood got to film aboard it , before the ship was sent to hawaii, tommy lee jones, and gary busey deliver good performances.
excellent action movie and the hero Steven Seagal is as always outstanding Keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Often, older and lower grossing films get quick non-attentive HD transfers, this film luckily escaped that mediocrity. Even though this transfer suffers from some slight dithering, it is an actual Film transfer to HD with film noise/artifact reduction, and as such has an outstanding picture for a film of it's age. The opening scene with the Battleship moving through the Ocean is simply one that must be seen on a true 1080 HDTV, the water looks very, very good and has absolutely no noticeable compression (you won't see HD water like this on any compressed Satellite or Cable channels). The 5.1 audio mix is subtle, but hits you at the right moments and was clearly thought out well. It contains steady background noises from the battleship and ocean that envelop you in a warm hum.If you like Steven Seagal, then this movie is one of his best. This is primarily due to the supporting actors, who are true bonafide A-class actors and not the musical artists or other B-class actors that we see in most of his recent movies. This is one of his last movies as a thinner, in-shape tough guy, and was probably most succesful because of the strong appeal of it's action filled story line.If you are an action-movie buff, then this movie is a very good bet. If you are a Steven Seagal (or an early Tommy-Lee Jones fan), then this movie is a must-have.
This is Steven Seagal's most popular film among fans and critics.Although he made some others that are just as good. Above the Law(1988), Out for Justice (1991), and Under Siege 2 (1995). These threeare not as slick and audience friendly and have more gritty violenceand raw characters. But this movie could be called his most fun. It has a light heartedtone and there is a lot played for laughs by the co-stars and there ismuch attention given to the ship itself. It is a lively affair withenough ingredients to give everyone a good time, even non-fans of theaction star.Overall it is an inoffensive action flick with some big budget gimmicksand fun villains, some very good cinematography, and high poweredsound. If you liked this one check out those others for even moreentertainment from the whispering martial arts expert.
Seagal is at his action best, this time as a cook on the a battleship thathas been hyjacked by an elite team of terrorists, led by(a perfect actingTommy Lee Jones). But what the terrorists don't know is that Seagal is anex-SEAL.And he's cooking up a storm that will blow them off theirfeet.
This is probably Seagal's best movie. His departure from the rogue policeofficer is refreshing. As always, his fight scenes are excellent. If youlike this one you should also enjoy the sequel.Seagal may not be the best actor around, but there is one thing that I dolike about his films. When he puts someone down, they stay down. My maindissatisfaction with other action movie stars, Jackie Chan for instance, isthat the bad guys always get back up and rejoin the fight. I love Chan'sstyle and his stunts, but his opponents always get back up and continuethefight, over and over. In Seagal's fight scenes it does not take ten tofifteen punches and kicks to defeat his opponent. As for those who complain about his acting, why are you complaining? Whatkind of idiot goes to an action movie expecting to find a character withreal development? I go to an action movie or horror movie for the rush ofadrenalin that it gives me, not to delve into the deeper meanings oflife.
Oh, it has its moments, but overall this movie was--I hate to sayit--dull. It is clearly reaching for the cinematic nirvana that is "DieHard," but unfortunately it falls short. Seagal spends most of his timesneaking around in the shadows and mumbling, and very little timeactually fighting. The action scenes are awesome, of course--theyinclude an interesting death wherein a guy gets an I-beam dropped onhis head, and a truly kickass knife fight--but they are few and farbetween. Even Tommy Lee Jones as the villain couldn't save it. It's anadmirable effort to put the "Die Hard" formula on a ship, but in theend, it is mediocre.6/10 stars.
I'm not a fan of Steven Seagal - his films, so a work colleague pointedout - usually have a hidden "envirionmental awareness" agenda. Yet hisgreasy hair must release more emissions than a D Reg Ford. This film isOK though, its a good watch. Its plot is entertaining enough and TommyLee Jones puts in a good performance as William Stranix. Stranix andhis mercenaries take over a US warship by posing as entertainment forthe captains birthday party. As the staff are taken hostage (orkilled), all hope looks to be lost - but, wait - the saviour is in theshape of cook (yes, cook) Kasey Ryback (Seagal), an ex SEAL who is anexpert at one-on-one combat and explosives (but not acting) A greatappearance from ex Baywatch star Erika Eleniak who you first seejumping out of a birthday cake topless (nice) A good enough film towatch, in a nutshell the good and bad points are:+ Tommy Lee Jones, OK Plot - Steven Seagala moderate 5/10
" Steven Seagal sets the screen alight in the all action classic- UNDERSIEGE " said the BBC announcer before the transmission . I beg to differ MrAnnouncer . UNDER SIEGE isn`t the worst action film ever made but its noclassic either . It can best be described as an ultra violent episode ofMACGUYVER with the hero living on his wits and making all sorts of deadlybooby traps with anything that comes to hand . The best aspect of the filmis the performances oof Busey and Jones as the bad guys . Conversly theworst aspect of UNDER SIEGE is the performance of the leading man. We couldsit all day on one of the boards and discuss who is the greatest ever actionstar but there can be no doubt that the worst one is Steven Seagal . He hasthe facial expression of a totem pole and the voice of a speak your weightmachine that`s overdosed on tranquillisers , and seeing as UNDER SIEGEfeatures Seagal`s greatest ever performance as an actor it comes as nosurprise we don`t see him on cinema screens anymore " You`re good. You`re very good " No you`re not Steven you`re very bad and the only way you`ll set my TVscreen alight is if you come round to my flat with a flamethrower
I was listening to my Depeche Mode when my friend came into myapartment and threw a laser disc of "Under Siege" in my face."Dude, you've gotta watch this!" I put it in, turned off my People ArePeople cassette tape, and sat down for what I call "The Second Comingof Movie Jesus". The first coming being Die Hard. After this film, I asked my friend to help me to the bathroom, becauseI had just soiled my leather pants. This is the kind of movie thatmakes you absolutely sure that God exists and that he is in this movie.Watch it. It's what Dave Gahan would do. Now, I'm going back to myDio...
I would have to say that this is the best Seagal film. I have seen someothers from him and the direction and general look of the film do notcompare to this. Also, Tommy Lee Jones makes an excelent bad guy. Theactionis almost non stop and the fighting scenes are great. I could easilyrecommend this to anyone to see
Lets say this was a good seagel film a thriller and action its verycool in ways . The film was described as die hard on a battle ship noits not die hard is a bad boring film but this is very entertaining. This has thrills , and laughs lots of action which is bad gettingkilled so its a classic this is simple different 90s action that isvery inventive if you want to watch go ahead its an seagal filmeveryone knows seagal hes just awesome .8.0 out of 10.0 / entertainingfilm / it does lack brilliance and brill acting although seagal is thehighlighlight its still very underrated and great . 15 certificateclearly underrated this is a brutal action film the seagal action idsalways brutal . should be 18 for strong brutal action violence , threatand language and some sexual scenes . 7 0ut of 10 for violence can bevery bad to viewers . total explitict content 10 out of 100 so it getslittle explitict content .
This review is from: Under Siege [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) i saw this movie during my senior year of high school and i loved it. one of Mr. Seagal's best. Seagal is not afraid to let his audience laugh once in a while to ease the tension and Academy Award winner Tommy Lee Jones (Best Supporting Actor THE FUGITIVE) is a real SOB as a renegade Navy SEAL attempts to fire a nuclear missile into Honolulu after an attempt on his life. it is up to Steven Seagal and an exotic dancer hired to entertain the ship's captain at sea. compatable with the Playstation 3
What makes this movie great is that it does not just rely on hero StevenSeagal, but also the villains in ACADEMY AWARD WINNER TOMMY LEE JONES (THEFUGITIVE, SMALL SOLDIERS) and ACADEMY AWARD NOMINEE GARY BUSEY (THE BUDDYHOLLY STORY, APOCALYPSE 3: TRIBULATION). With great action scenes and suchHollywood legends who play villains so well, this is a real must see.
Remember when seeing a good action movie practically guaranteed at leastonedecent gratuitous sex scene. Chuck Norris, Van Damme, etc. always nailedsome sexy bimbo at least once for no apparent reason. And the action, whilecompletely unbelievable, was nonstop, predictable and a helluva lot offun?Well, that's what we have in this movie. If you don't know already,Seagal, for some reason, is a cook who knows how to totally kick a**. It's theCO'sbirthday, and Seagal's busy running the kitchen when the terrorists takeover. Meanwhile, totally sexy Erika Eleniak is crouching inside acardboardcake, ready to bust out, and somehow does not notice any of the goings on.So she busts out, gets naked, and proceeds to do the sexy littlestripteasefor a while, again without noticing that there's nobody to watch her otherthan Seagal and a pile of corpses. Then Seagal, the jerk, gives her hisjacket to wear. What was he thinking? There was probably plenty of SaranWrap in the kitchen he could have used! Then a bunch of other stuffhappenedand the movie ended.
