Solid Movie

Not a bad movie here, it is worth seeing. The cast was pretty solid withtheonly acting that stuck with me coming from Scott Bairstow. He was not evenadvirtised as being in this movie, yet gave it the edge it needed to be agood movie. The young acting was good, but not exactly great. I wouldntsayI was disappointed coming away from this movie. It was truly notbad.

83 minutes of mediocrity

Looking at the current voting history of this film, I personally suspect theextended Tuck family have been wheeled out to press '10'. There is nothingextraordinary about this film. It is nicely made, competently acted andfeatures some big names. However, William Hurt and Sissy Spacek arevirtually anonymous and it is left to Ben Kingsley alone as the mysterious'man in the yellow suit' to provide any memorable moments. The young actors play their adolescent infatuation out pleasantly enough, but the bottom line is there is not enough meat on the bones of the plot andmy primary thought on leaving the preview was that the ending reminded me of'Titanic'. To echo the statement of a fellow viewer, 'I've seen better, seenworse'.6/10

No comparison with the 1981 version

This review is from: Tuck Everlasting (DVD) Demand that someone release the old version on DVD. The characters were much more interesting, the action truer to the original Natalie Babbitt book, the sweet was sweeter, the evil eviler. It's too easy to portray evil as a leering, sneering, menacing "man in yellow". How much harder (and better) to put a pleasant face on it and let the actions speak for themselves. For all the characters it almost seems as though the director wrote down a two or three word description and told the actors, "This is your character; now, read your lines."

Pretty Good if you're in the mood

This movie's preview made it look a lot better than it actually was. However, the movie was still captivating. It would depend on your agethough. I've found that this appeals mostly to teenage girls, and not somuch older adults or really young children. About 10-18 was the norm. Thefantasy aspect of this is fun though, something fun to think about and theacting is not bad either. The Tuck family can't really decide on an accentthough, but that's not a big deal when it comes to the big picture and themovie's questions about life.

Worth a look.

This is a decent adaptation of a very good book. It strays a lot from thenovel, but enough is left to hopefully inspire many young people to get andread the book. For that the film is worth it. The leisurely pace here mayturn off some, but stick with it. Ask yourself at the end if you would havedone the same as Winnie or would you have done something different?Personally, I would have taken a drink from the spring. The cast is impressive, with 3 oscar winners and Amy Irving, who is startingto look old. The standout is Alexis Bledel. She is impossibly beautifulhere, and somewhat of a (welcome) distraction. I may even start to watchGilmore Girls just to see her every week.Rating: 6 out of 10.

To Live Forever

Would you like to live forever and what would happen as you watched your friends and family pass away? There are some deep questions in this moving film which is really worth watching.

A Beautiful Movie For The Whole Family

Winnie Foster(Alexis Bledel) is a free spirited young girl who is sick ofliving a boring life with her rich strict parents and one night after anargument with her parents Winnie runs away. She gets lost in a forest andstumbles upon Jesse(Jonathon Jackson). His family now takes Winnie with thembecause she has discovered a secret. That the Tuck's are immortal and thatshe can never ever tell anybody about that. Winnie and Jesse fall in love, and now Winnie must choose, will she go on and live her life like she issupposed to, or will she become immortal just like Jesse and spend foreverwith him?I thought this was a very beautiful movie, it is not just for kids like manypeople say. I think the whole family could enjoy this movie, it questions alot of things people wonder about these days and it's just a really greatmagical fairytale.I would give Tuck Everlasting 10/10

A Sweet Film

Tuck Everlasting is a Disney movie, and you can tell. But it's also asweet, fun, family movie.Don't expect a gripping story...or award winning acting, but it is adecent watch, especially for fans of the book. The story is about the Tuck family, who live in the woods and harbor afascinating secret--a beautiful and a terrible one. And unlike thebook, the movie is geared more toward females and giddy little girls -but that wont stop their dads from smiling. The movie is fun and entertaining. I'd say, see it. Don't expect much, and expectations will be met!

Supernatural Love Story for the Whole Family

My 4-year-old grand daughter thought the male lead was cute, so I rented the movie for her. After renting it several more times at her request, I finally bought the DVD. We have watched it no less than 20 times. It is a supernatural love story that stresses family values and unrequited love. The story connects to persons of any age, making it wonderful joint viewing for both a child and adult. It's a movie you will share over and over.

If you were given the opportunity, would you live forever?

This is a family movie for early teens through Grandparents. The acting is good and the unfolding of the movie is captivating from the beginning. Not alot of special effects were needed as the story and the acting were able to carry this movie on it's own. We had several family discussions based on the premise of this story line. Truly enjoyed this movie and I hope to watch it with my granddaughter when she's a bit older.

Beautiful family tale about living life, and understanding it.

Like the book, Tuck Everlasting proves odd fare for the audience it wouldgenerically be made for. Considering it was technically made for 9-11 yearolds, it's incredible, and applaudable, for a so called "generic Disneyfamily film" to be so intelligent, thought provoking, and high quality. It'sa real "family" film as opposed to the empty fare most movies of the samenature are. It can be slightly macabre, gently philosophical, andponderous;it IS gentle, slow moving, and quiet, and believe it or not, it proves tobea somewhat mesmerizing, magical, other-worldly experience: lyrical andhaunting folk strained music sifts through the scenery, in this case themagically captured springtime woodlands of Maryland where it was filmed, abelievable and genuinely played young love romance, and the storybook-likenarration from Elizabeth Shue provide an almost unbelievably prettysettingwhich we're immersed in....And it certainly isn't a bad thing. The rest of the film is much thesame. A briefing to the plot of the book: The Tucks have immortality a laahidden spring, Winnie Foster stumbles onto it, they kidnap her butultimately teach her about the grim facts and joys life, and then a numberof fast paced, short fuse adventures ensue, eventually leaving us with anending that makes a lot of people cry. That's the book, and the movie isalmost exactly the same. Some liberal changes, but the characters arethere, completely.Jay Russell, the director, must have been faced with an odd dilemma, turnwhat was already a heavy duty little fable into a tale that would pleasetheenigma: the ever spoiled audience...and "Tuck" seems to float at it's ownpace. It moves at an unusual speed for films these days, it just strollsalong lovingly and thoughtfully, with some tense moments here and there, until the last 30 minutes or so, where everything falls into place withhelpfrom those exciting escapades. Then they use the last few shots of thefilmto induce one to tears in a way you wouldn't expect, by utilizing theheftyamount of previous movie where the characters, as they do in thestoryline, merely "existed". It's smart, and it works, and the result is beautiful, ifnot bittersweet and heartbreaking.Having said that, the film isn't staggeringly amazing in it's style orit'sperformances or it's script. Some of the camerawork didn't do anything forme, and the editing was a bit...off. The direction isn't anythingOscarworthy, but after all it's a family film, but not a generic one.Otherthan the absolutely stunning cinematography AND gorgeous, haunting scoreANDthe great costumes AND production design (these last two aspects help thefeel of the film greatly, in a film that relies on "feel" and thattangibility a great deal), the beauty of the film lies in it's sincerityandits simplicity, it's message and it's moral, and it's hefty handful ofpurely breathtaking and wonderful moments...and what I though was a trulybeautiful ending.Bledel (plays Winnie Foster) and Jackson (plays Jesse Tuck) have achemistry, Jackson is truly capable at playing a wonderfully likeable andserious young fellow, and makes you want to run off with him and listen.Likewise Bledel does a great job with balancing a film on her shoulders, considering it's her film debut as opposed to her vastly different roleandsetting on "Gilmore Girls". As for the highly plugged "Oscar nominatedcast", Kingsley is the standout with all the nuances you could possiblyneedand a performance that is downright creepy. Though Hurt and Spacek getverylittle screentime, they provide a familiarity and stability to the film, giving it a backbone so to speak. Just to see them in the background andtoknow they are there helps create a mood and atmosphere about their homeandthe Tucks' personalities . The rest of the cast, Garber, Irving, andBairstow, are fairly capable, with Irving leading the pack. This is a wonderful film. Quite brave considering all the flash and dashandraucousness of most films for the "teen/kid" age group these days. See ittobring your kids to a wholesome, mature-minded film that won't ruin YOUReardrums, to get your mind off of everything else, to wax nostalgia, or gawkatpretty things and interesting ideas. It gives room to think and to daze inabucolic setting with a wonderful passionate story about life.

Tears!

I thought this movie was great, and a wonderful love story. I am a hopeless romantic, so if you like that kind of stuff, you will love this movie. It made me laugh and cry and a good movie has to have those two quialities. This movie is great for any ages and it really makes you think about life and how short it is.

Disney magic at its best

I will start by saying that I have read the book and it is one of myall-time favorites. The movie stuck pretty close to the book, rightdown to several quotes taken from the book. There were a few changesthat surprised me. For example, in the book, Miles is a mild manneredperson. In the movie, he's extremely bitter because of what happened tohim due to his immortality. (Sorry, no spoilers) It was a good change. The casting was amazing. Alexis Bledel plays Winnie Foster. Like Roryon Gilmore Girls, Winnie is very serious, but wants to have fun.William Hurt didn't strike me as someone old and wise, but he portraysAngus Tuck very well. Sissy Spacek was great as Mae Tuck, showing hercharacter's motherly side toward Winnie.Ben Kingsley plays the Man in the Yellow Suit (TMITYS). TMITYS is agreat villain in the same league as Lex Luthor. He has no superpowers, but his mere presence can send super humans (immortals) running forcover. In the book, he's a vague character. He doesn't even seem to bea villain until later in the book. All we know is that he wants to findthe Tucks and their spring. In the movie, TMITYS is presented as avillain, and we find out more about what he wants and how he knowsabout the Tucks. Bravo, Mr. Kingsley! One last thought... (I know I said 'no spoilers', so I'll be asdiscreet as I can.) Don't let the ending disappoint you. I told mycousin the end of the movie and she said it was a terrible ending. Itwasn't terrible. One character just made a choice. I strongly recommendthis movie to people of all ages.

Great Movie...

This movie is one of the better Disney movies I have seen in a long time. I applaude Disney for making this inspirational book into a fantastic movie. I found that the acting was superb, especially the acting of Jonathan Jackson, Alexis Bledel, and Scott Bairstow. The older cast really lent an air of solidness. Which isn't something that you see often in a romance adventure story. They tend to focus on the romantic leads, but in this movie every minute packed with Garber, Hurt, Irving, Kingsley and Spacek gave you an emotion. Everything from disgust for Winnie's parents, to the awfulness of having to live forever like the Tucks. It is a movie I would recommend to people of all ages.

Great Movie

This movie is great but one thing i noted that for any movie to be ahit, the ending must be good. Here, although the ending was moving but ithing its not a perfect ending( i did not read the book). The directorshowed it as some what like thriller than anything...the good pointsabout this movie is the acting stuff is good ......this movie makes uto think...who all want to be always 18( 18 till i die).i woulddefinitely say that children between ages of 10 to 14 will really findthis movie fascinating and make them cry at the end(sure!). Alexislooks really pretty in the movie. This movie proves that Disney stillproduces good movies.Altogether it is a nice family movie.i wouldrecommend this as a perfect DVD for weekend entertainment with family.

Do I like it?

Do I like the movie Tuck Everlasting? Do I think it's a good choice to watch? Yes I do.Tuck Everlasting is a great entertainment because it has a bit of comedy and a lot of romantic and serious parts. It is a great movie for all ages young and old to watch. I think that Tuck Everlasting would be on my favorite movie list; although it has a few changes from the book it is still good. There was a few changes that I did like though, for instance when Jessie took Winnie swimming in the falls, and how Winnie was 15 instead of 11 because it allowed more romantic scenes. Tuck Everlasting is a great book and a great movie, and if you haven't read or watched it you should because it takes you places that you've never been. It's a great experience.

5 Star Book Makes 5 Star Movie

This is a romantic movie was performed and filmed beautifully which tells us that living forever is not always a blessing. It is about the Tucks who are stuck with eternal life after drinking from a magic spring, when Winnie Foster, has ran away from the overprotectness of her wealthy parents, gets lost in the woods one day,and comes upon Jesse Tuck and finds out the secret the Tucks have hid all there life. While,a stranger,"man in the yellow suit" finds out there secret and has a evil plan on selling the spring's water. This is one of the most wonderful movies that will never be forgotten!
