Ehren Kroger & Roberto Orci wrote this very juvenile script. I imaginethat young children may enjoy the continuous bombardment of computergenerated special effects (mostly explosions & fighting robots).Micheal Bay directed (that is what the credits say) his cast sayingidiotic lines. As far as I am concerned this way too long childish script did thisfilm in. Shia Labeouf is our (now) college aged hero,Megan Fox is againour heroine. John Turturro turns up half way thru (he is mostly comicrelief). & is good as always. Our heroes parents feature in the beginning & ending. Kevin Dunn is thefather he is capable BUT Julie White as the mother is an embarrassment.Again they are comic relief. In all films of this nature our hero has a silly buddy.Ramon Rodruguiesfills this role. Rainn Wilson has 2 brief bits as a College professor.None of these characters except for our leads really fit in thissupposed adventure story. The film was made in various parts of the world & the scenery isbeautiful. As I stated in my review of the original film, this may have beenbetter if all was animated. Many have made mention of the long running time, yes it is a very long149 plus minutes, especially the finale which goes on & on.My rating is mainly for the special effects.Ratings: ** (out of 4) 57 points (out of 100) IMDb 5 (out of 10)
I went to watch TF 2 yesterday & I thought the film was an excellentadvert for ILM & their skills but it was distinctly average in terms ofentertainment. It's got more transformers than the previous film butthroughout the course of watching it, you'll forget who they are or howthey fit into the story. It's also got a fair amount of action butthese scenes seem to be completely devoid of any sense of menace /urgency or danger. It also got a ridiculous amount of comic relief, most of which completely misses the target, although the fun elementprovided by Sam's parents is as welcome as ever. Watch it withoutkeeping your hopes up & you will not be disappointed.
Okay, I just got to see Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen out here inJapan and to be completely honest, this movie was a blast! I reallycan't see what turned some people off so much about this movie. Yes,juvenile jokes abound, and yes, Megan Fox's sexual appeal to thepredominantly male audience was certainly exploited to the limits ofthe film rating, but c'mon, folks. This was a story about giantsentient robots that transform into, well, cars  and beat the crap outof each other in a no-holds-barred slugfest. It was fun from start to finish! It delivered precisely what you'dexpect from such a premise  a exciting, only semi-serious,action-packed flick that fired full throttle on, yes, over-inflated,but no less universally appealing themes of heroism, villainy, andsacrifice  oh, yeah, and giant sentient robots that transform intocars, and beat the crap out of each other in a no-holds-barredslugfest. What else do you want? Those fuddy-duddies waxing nostalgically over some Shakespeareanversion of a Transformers that never really was need to revisit what itmeans to have fun at a movie. If I wanted to see the originalTransformers, the animated series, in all its glory, then I'd pop somepopcorn, pull out those old VHS tapes, and camp out in front of the TVfor a metal-on-metal marathon, complete with '80s commercials. But toexpect Bay and the team behind Revenge of the Fallen to blatantlypander to rose-tinted views of the Transformers by creating the samething all over again is sadly lacking in ambition, creativity, andinspiration.Seriously, Mr. Bay, you get a double-thumbs up from me for putting thebiggest smile on my face after a movie this year. Thank you!
I'm not going to be snobby and say that there weren't parts of the movie I enjoyed. I like explosions and robot fights just as much as the next guy. Throwing in Megan Fox certainly helps to keep my interest. The problem is that the movie is all eye candy. It was okay to sit through once to see the great visuals, but there is not meat to the story. Everything was a set up to get to the next battle, the next explosion. I enjoyed some of the new robots, but the two ghetto bots grew increasing (jar jar binks) annoying as the movie went on. My son loved the movie, and I am sure most other 10 year old boys will too. As for adults, I think you can skip this one.
As a whole I thought the movie was good. It was as to be expected for asummer blockbuster. The only complaint I had was the sexual materialthat was used and I watched three different sets of parents leave withtheir small children. Parents use extreme caution with any childrenunder 1o years old. The sad thing is that the scenes were pointless anddid not add or would not have taken away from the movie, so why werethey added? Transformers at the heart is for the kids. The directorshould have taken that into account before adding those scenes.Visually I thought the movie was great. Like most sequels it lacks agood story line but they try to make up for it by adding moreexplosions and fighting. If your looking for a movie with lots ofaction then you'll like this movie. Just remember to leave the kids athome for this one.
Where should I begin? The story never seemed to quite fit in the transformers universe. First, Who is this fallen guy and why should we care about him? Megatron was supposed to be the worst SOB robot out there, (at least thats what we were told over and over in the first movie) turns out he is just a little sissy that works for this fallen robot which we have never heard of before, and doesn't look threatening at all. Another thing that makes no sense to me, Whats the point of fighting and trying to kill robots if its so easy to revive them? It was clearly stated at the end of Transformers that Megatron was death and dropped to sink at the world's deepest sea, making it impossible for him to come back thus the cold temperature wouldn't allow transformers to go get him because cold causes malfunctions to them, This rule was crucial in the plot of the first movie. Now it only takes about 4 generic robots to break this rule, dive in, fix Megatron, and he is back only to disappoint. Optimus gets very little screen time because of a fatal fight, but again it's so easy to bring him back to life!, even though he is the hero of this saga he made very little impact on this movie. Another thing that drove me crazy, Whats the point of having robots transforming into cars when there are robots that can be human like? completely unnecessary. So you have all of this great characters settled down from the First movie,Ironhide, Ratchet, Starscream ... they are all important Transformers and people are familiar with them, but instead you get Skids and Mudflaps, two annoying negro twins, wheels, a leg humping gremlin robot, and jetfire, an ancient robot that teleports(?). So bumble bee was supposed to be the comic relief of this movie, having all of this robots that have the archetype of a pixar character at the same time, just annoyed me to my nerves and skull. And this also makes me think: Who is this movie marketed for? Little kids? Teenagers who love Megan Fox and other unnecessary sexy scenes? Transformer fans? Action fans? Its hard to tell because at times the movie is edgy and violent and at times its cartoonish. Some human characters were also as annoying as the "Pixar" robots: Sam's parents and that Mexican dude. Really, why were they there the whole time? Every dialogue leads to a punch line, at the end its way overdone and unnecessary. The story delivers the most outdone cliches in holywood, its hard to list them all. Believe me. I have to give credit to the artists on charge of the special effects, congratulations. This is the only reason why I give a star to this movie and the only reason why this movie did so good on the box office. All of you have to admit that. But having great special effects just doesn't cut it.Not after watching other contemporary sci-fi movies such as: Batman, Hancock, Iron man, Star trek, Terminator and District 9 among others. Such movie franchises with such large followings are obligated to reach nothing else but prime quality film making. What I'm trying to say is that you need a good story to back up the great elements of fantasy and special effects. This isn't worth owning, but it could be a great rental if you don't mind the silly (stupid) details. On a final thought, I ought a quote from The Lou's review: "This review isn't for most younger viewers. Teenagers will mostly like this flick. Also adults who have the emotional depth of a teenager"
I don't get how anyone could say this is a bad movie. From the firstaction scene to the credits I was hooked. The only parts that were alittle to much were the jokes with the family and the close up shots ofMegan Fox. She is very hot no doubt but there was no need to close upon her face every time she said something. Besides that the movie wasunreal. It had an amazing amount of action and the plot was unreal. Thetwin robots were absolutely hilarious and I was upset they didn't shootmore of the little robot that was captured he was hilarious. The onlyother complaint is the roommate. He wasn't completely needed in themovie and his character was very obnoxious. I am very excited to findout if they will make a third transformers.
Michael Bay has once again transformed garbage into something resembling a film, at least in the loosest sense: it can be run through a projector and used to sell millions of tickets.
No more Michael Bay, no more Shia Labeouef, maybe no more Megan Fox.When you attach your name to a project like this, hopefully fans willnot give future projects done by these people record breaking boxoffice feats. I'm embarrassed that I supported the cause. One of the poorest acting, directional, and written efforts I have seenin a long time in modern cinema. The scoop: This movie is good for a couple of scenes where the audiencemight be like 'cool!' due to CGI effects. There is a couple of cheaplaughs from some other scenes. If that entertains you, great, there arelots of action movies out there for you. However, if you're reading areview on IMDb, you've likely separated well done movies from poorlydone movies, and at least seen a couple in the top 250. To the reader, don't see this.I left the movies mad. I wonder what other directors think when theysee a screening of this film. The story is near non-existent, there areso many plot holes, or unexplained courses of action this movietakes... it really is unbelievable that the script was given an okay byany film studio. Here's the thing : the target audience is obviously young kids or earlyteens. I think back to when I was 11 or 12 and I saw Men in Black inthe theatres. I was entertained then, it's at least plausible that 12year olds could be somewhat entertained by this now. However, I amstill entertained by 'younger'generation stuff like spongebob, southpark, and even beast wars. This didn't do it for me at all. Similarly to how family guy uses the strategy 'hey people love ourinterchangeable jokes in early episodes, let's overload our newepisodes with the same jokes'.... Michael Bay employs 'hey people lovethe cgi and megan fox in the first one... let's overload the film withsex overtones, explosions, and fight scenes'... and then at the lastminute tried to fit a story around it.This is the kind of film that makes a person angry that they aren't inHollywood directing films, because most could do better than this.
Bad acting, lines, cinematography, the only good things are the visual effects and Fox's sexiness. The action was just robots bashing up each other. Gets boring after a while? Nah. Only REAL good thing about the movie.2.5/10
I thought the movie was FANTASTIC! I think Michael Bay did a great jobin creating a movie about a TOY. I understand why critics are burningthis one to the ground, such as plot holes, and racism. BUT WHO CARES!?ITS A MOVIE BASED ON A TOY! A toy that everyone, if not everyone, hasplayed with or seen once in their lifetime. A vehicle that transformsinto a robot. A crazy ridiculous idea that has amazed and fascinatedbillions of KIDS for years. And they made a movie about it. The first transformers movie had a pretty good story, but revenge ofthe fallen action was much more amazing than the first one. If you gointo the movie expecting to see a great FILM, which it is not, you willbe disappointed. A FILM is a message or a story that puts the audiencein an emotional stance about a character(s). A MOVIE is something I cantake my girlfriend to on a Friday night to just entertain ourselves forthat 2 hours. And "critics" do not see the difference. Everything mustbe perfect for them. Its like if you were to go to Disney Land, one ofthe greatest places on earth, with a sour attitude, of course yourexperience is going to be miserable if you act and think that waythroughout the whole time you are there. You are just going to ruineveryone else experience with your attitude. But going to see thisMOVIE with a open mind about a TOY, I was blown away. Fights I had withmy own transformer toys I had as a kid were not as epic as Michael Bayput on screen and I thank Michael Bay for this. It's hard for a director in these times to have a vision and to fulfillhis vision from start to finish without big power house productioncompanies stepping in and taking over because that's not how they wantto release it. Tearing not just one persons work but many people whoput their heart and soul into a MOVIE or a FILM. Michael Bay did hisjob as he was paid to do, as a director should. Now-a-days productioncompanies are so worried that they won't make a buck, and step in notknowing what the hell is going on and ruin everything. Fox is the worstabout it next to Sony (Spider-Man 3 ring a bell?). Warner Bros.actually gives freedom to their visionaries (Chris Nolan, Zach Snyder)as well as Paramount and Universal. And you can see it has paid offwell with them. Marvel opened up there first studio a few years ago notknowing what the hell they were doing. They handed Jon Favreau Iron Manand got out of his way. Iron Man is now a pop culture icon because ofhim. Yet studios have not learned from this?It is funny how studios did come as low as to a TOY to make a MOVIE.And recycle characters to this day (Friday the Thirteenth, TexasChainsaw) it's insulting to the public. "The public is so stupid wewill just retell the story make more money off them". If studios arenot willing to take risk as they had in the past of introducing Jason,Michael Myers, or even Marty McFly they wouldn't be where they are now.And Michael Bay was given a TOY. By Paramount. The writers' strike wenton last year, and Michael Bay still worked on the movie cause hebelieved in it. And I respect anyone who has a passion in whatever theydo and overcome the obstacles that hit their way. People and "critics"need to relax about this movie. I feel bad for Michael Bay getting whathe has got from "critics" the last few weeks...BUT IT WAS A MOVIE BASEDON A TOY!! Megan Fox recently had the guts to tell Michael Bay that hefocused on special effects than acting and that's why its getting badreviews. Have you not seen his last 7 films Megan? Better yet did younot read the script? As a professional actress should? I guess you justwaited for these "critics" and just changed sides because you're scaredabout your career. You did film the movie? I mean that was you bendingover on the bike right? Did that moment not hit you and say "hey I'mnot acting, the camera is just dollying to my butt" I mean he did sayhe was writing it a little over a year ago. Did I mention THE MOVIE ISBASED ON A TOY! The story is going to follow robots that can transform, then Shia Labeouf. You are just there to make 9 and 10 yr old boy hitpuberty early, and become this generation sex icon. And I don't know ifpissing off Michael Bay is a good thing considering he is friends withSteven Spielberg, one or the very people who made Hollywood what it istoday. Also who got you a start in Hollywood to begin with. As muchmoney as she is getting paid, acting classes should be pocket changefor her if she really cared about acting. Megan, yeah you wereperfectly crafted by God which is awesome, but he did not give youskills to become an actress. But it's OK. Halle Berry couldn't act whenshe first started. She worked hard and got an Oscar. So if you reallywant to act, work at it. Finally the whole racism thing. WHO CARES?! Its 2009! it's not the '50sanymore you old farts. The twin autobots were entertaining. If you'regoing to say "oh I see 2 robots acting black." who cares!? They didn'tsay anything against black people. You're racist for thinking about it.And no one likes a racist so drop it. Thanks Michael Bay for a great MOVIE!!!
The problem with sites like this and many other "ratings" sites is notthe error of the site creators and/or moderators... rather the idiotswho want to trash the things others enjoy.Somewhat like the HD-DVD and Bluray format war, many argued and bluraywins... the no brainer there is the PS3's innate ability to smother andover power the XBOX 360. On to the movie...I have seen the movie 3 times and analyzed every aspect of what's"palpable" or "prepubescent," and to say the least some of youcommenting need to grow up. The movie is SCIENCE FICTION! It is notwritten to be the real deal, merely an attempt to show what would bepossible if the story and background were true and there was evidenceof alien life forms. You haters forget that this was a COMIC series... does that not justifythe art of the movies to being fantasy driven? If every movie were realwe could just live it. Movie-goers see these films to be entertained bywhat may never be possible. Let Michael Bay have his explosion andcameo's. Obviously people love him because they give him money to keepdoing it. I personally think it's perfection that he is dealing with, and haters will not stop his creative genius in producing BOX OFFICEHIT FILMS. My final question to those who do not like the film or want to bash it,.... .... WHERE'S YOUR MOVIE GENIUS?Let's see Paramount or Dreamworks give $450 million to immaturecommenter's on IMDb who can barely spell. Yeah... Right. Go cry tomommy. I rate the movie 9 out of 10 in it's CATEGORY, something I stronglysuggest you commenting members do. It's in the science fiction genre...not romance or comedy. Pay attention.S.E.M.J
This movie was amazing, I loved it. I was sad when Optimus Prime died, but I knew he would eventually have to come back because, hes the mainTransformer and cannot die. I think that the overall plot was good, alittle predictable. The screenplay and graphics are absolutely 15 outof 10. The introduction of Devastator was awesome. John Tuturo makesthe movie so much funnier! Worth watching, I may see it again intheaters. Leo is kinda of a stupid role, I did not like his character, but it was okay. I think that the movie started a little suddenly andwithout explanation, the ending ended really suddenly. It took 5minutes, between Optimus Prime reviving and blowing up the sun-eaterthing, then killing the Fallen.Go to http://www.yovia.com/blogs/stevenmeyerjr for more information.
I read in EMPIRE magazine that Steven Spielberg said that he could seethe TRANSFORMERS franchise going on for a long, long time but that thebest movie in the series would be made first. So far, that seems to bepretty much true. Do not get me wrong: TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THEFALLEN was superb. It just did not have that spark the first one had.We start off with a prologue by Optimus Prime about how thetransformers arrived on earth long before anyone knew. OK - That'scool. We then cut to the first of the action sequences which, as anopener is pretty amazing and surpasses that of the first film. Then wecut to Sam who has a sliver of the Allspark caught in his jacket. Assoon as he touches it he begins to see symbols which are imprinted inhis memory, something which the Decepticons need to find a new sourceof Energon to keep their race alive. Now they have a reason to go afterSam, the action really kicks in. The plot however, tries to take itselfseriously and it never really works. Of course, we all go to aTRANSFORMERS film to see robots fight each other but its impossible totry and ignore the plot because of the way it takes itself seriously. The film slows in the middle and shows no sign of picking up until theend 30 minutes which is a massive battle in the Egyptian desert. The last battle is nothing short of spectacular (Devastator climbing upa pyramid / The Fallen chucking tanks around everywhere) but at timesyou do become a little bored and find it hard to follow amongst all ofthe explosions that take place. You can't help but think that MichaelBay can offer nothing new and so takes the viewpoint that he'll doeverything the same as in TRANSFORMERS, just bigger... Sometimes lessis more.Nevertheless, the sequel is fantastic and i still have respect for thefranchise. Shia and Megan have great chemistry as do his comedicparents. The Fallen, however, is terribly underused (A 'Venom inSpiderman 3 moment' comes to mind) It is hard to see how a sequel willbe made out of this one as the plot that was carried over from thefirst film pretty much concludes. However, I'm sure something willarise. Go to the cinema, sit back with your popcorn, and enjoy somemindless, dumb fun. I for one will be seeing it again. 7/10
This review contains harsh language. There are also a number ofspoilers. Neither are avoidable, so if you are offended by either donot read on. I had such high expectations. I was not going to bediscouraged by the initial reviews. Sadly, this time I have to agree.Yes, it's big, it's loud, it has dizzyingly impressive visuals and bigexplosions, and transforming alien robots. The problem is, it's also inthis order. The Transformers - the namesakes of this production, forcrying out loud - come last. Apart from them the film is more like abig-budget advertising reel for the US army. The only thing missing aredirections on where to sign up.The Transformers seem to be there mainly to provide a reason forAmerica to mobilise against something - and for comic relief. Take the"twins". Take the little "spybot". Take Jetfire (in the source materialone of the most powerful Autobots). Take Bumblebee: His character isreduced to a fierce but cute guard doggy for Spike. At the end of thelast film he had learnt to speak. Now he's back to makingunintelligible but adorable sounds. Even Starscream (my favourite): Hewas introduced as one of the most dangerous of all Decepticons in theprevious film, where he took on several Autobots and armies of humansoldiers. Now he's little more than an embarrassingly comical coward. The first half or so of the movie is actually fairly promising withsome clever Decepticon trickery and introducing some of my favouritecharacters (like Soundwave, Ravage, the Constructicons or Arcee). Theyeven bring back Megatron - which still adds a star to this rating. Thenfollow some episodes about family, college life and how bloodyomni-present the CIA are. In the end, though, most of the big heroics -and most of the screen time - go to US soldiers showing off theirimpressive equipment and response times. Note that in the beginningChina's military takes no action - they wait for the US to save theday. Note also that the Autobots actually live as shiny cars in a USarmy base and only get hoisted around when they are needed - likeextras. Then, when we finally get to the climatic battle I had to sitand watch helplessly as Devastator (in the source the ultimateDecepticon fighting machine) is taken out by some damn US secret weaponand an entire Decepticon army is wiped out by an American air strike. The Autobots, who also take part in the battle, are mainly seen in thebackground shooting at nothing in particular. The face-off betweenOptimus Prime and the Fallen then comes almost as an after-though. Asin: "oh, yes, we still have to finish off that part of the plot." Now,the source material has always involved the army. It is, after all, about war. That's generally fine. So, in the first film it wastolerable since it also preserved some classic moments. Or so I felt. This one, however, has clearly crossed the line. All I see here is thatsome great source material has been raped - yes, raped! - so thatAmericans can once again feel good about their eff-ing army.I went to see this film to see - well, surprise! - the Transformers. What I got was a story about how America's army is so cool they caneven take on alien robots. So, maybe this film should be moreappropriately named "USA and the Transformers". After the first film Ihad tears in my eyes for finally seeing the material come the bigscreen. After this my eyes almost watered again. Only this time it wastears of disappointment and frustration. This film was obviously onlymade to make more big money with a big franchise and Megan Fox wearingtight outfits. I'm afraid and sad it may even work. I feel this is aninsult to the community that so loves these characters. I hope we cango on as if this hadn't happened. I say it now and I mean it: I willnot watch any third instalment if it is still Michael Bay and hiscreative team producing it.
My brother and boyfriend thought it was better than the first. I mustsay, "the two are equally good." Megan Fox was horrible actress thereis zero sincerity, but her hotness made up for that and as a girl I amalright with that. Also the plot was entertaining and the effects were better than ever! Iunderstand people were offended by the two twin robots, but I must behonest that's a bit too politically correct for me. I can point outmultiple instances of racism and bias towards many other cultures inlots of television shows as well as movies.I think of transformers as a somewhat a family movie, it has somethingfor everyone. So it messed up and made some "mistakes," obviously theyare mending it by not bringing it up the twins the in third film.
That this version of Transformers Revenge Of The Fallen Blu-Ray does not contain the shifting aspect ratio's of the Imax scenes it stays the same.
By turns Revenge Of The Fallen is spectacular, funny, cringeworthy, edge-of-the-seat exciting, tedious, incomprehensible, dumb and very occasionally smart -- sometimes all at the same time.
I liked everything about this movie and I am far from being a kid. I saw it at the movie theatre and will be buying the dvd as soon as I can. It has all the components a good movie should have; which some of you tend to forget. It is supposed to entertain you and that's exactly what this movie does. Thank you Michael Bay, can't wait to see the next one.
I think it's important to realise that this is an old-fashioned kids TVseries being updated with modern CGI techniques to appeal to today'syounger generation who demand more than scrappy cartoon footage. Adultsgetting emotional and negative need to realise that this film isn'treally for them. It's a kids film. As such, it needs to be reviewed asone. As a kids film, this is great: it's action-packed, stunning towatch, full of one-liners and bumbling characters that make the(age-appropriate) viewer laugh, and acts as a great promotion for anexcellent toy-range.The reviewers giving this film 1 star should stop looking for plotholes (which almost every film has), stop looking for discontinuitiesbetween the 30-year old cartoon and today's storyline (!), and justremember during times of childish dialogue or slap-stick humour thatthis film (like the original story-line) was aimed at kids. This film receives 10 stars out of 10 from me in order to help balanceout the rankings.
