Ryan is a lion who wants to go to the wild, where his dad (Samson) once lived. When he gets himself shipped to Africa, his zoo friends (and Samson) work together to bring him back. When they get to Africa, however, the animals find themselves in a pile of danger. They have to fight an evil wildebeest called Kazar. But Kazars safe compared to the other danger on the island- a volcano thats on the edge of eruption. Can the animals find Ryan and get out of Africa before the volcano erupts in so little time?
Yet again we judge things Disney produce a little to harshly. Thecomparisons to Madagascar are completely insane. The wild completelyeclipses yet another over budgeted dream works atrocity. Think aboutthe crud that has emerged from that studio which seems to coast alongon the perennial favourite Shrek to hype up it's latest meagreofferings. Shark tale for instance suffered i think because they spenttoo much money on people like will smith, Angelina Jolie jack blacketc... and seemingly paid two illiterate laundry boys peanuts to createthe script. I mean honestly what can you remember from shark tale orMadagascar besides the songs? Case rested. The wild is a competent andbalanced film that does not need to be compared to the half staleconfection of a rival company who seem to be peddling an even stalerproduct as time goes on and budgets go up. Long live the wild
Pros: The animation was great -- the animators did an excellent job ofgiving real texture to most of the animals in the film, veryimpressive. Cons: the story was a rip-off of "Madagascar" but the charm in "TheWild" was not even a fraction of what was in "Madagascar". The moviejust flat out lacked anything to make it stand out except theanimation, and animation is not enough for me, personally. Comments: If you want to go see a movie with your kids in the theatersright now go see "Ice Age 2" -- it's a much better film. My wife and Ifound ourselves just enduring the film like the old kids movies used tobe. Movies like "Shrek" and "The Incredibles" and "Madagascar" haveraised the expectations of what a kids movie should be, and this simplyfalls below the line.
Well, the movie has some good animated characters with some really coolwork with it. The sound is too pretty decent and basically meant forkids. The story line ain't that bad but something similar to FindingNemo where the father has to search for his kid... which he lostsomehow. The movie has some good scenes to watch. The people have madeefforts to get their innovative ideas on the screen,The ending part is not much exciting to see.Not that hilarious but at times makes you feel good. The direction isgood as per the story-line. All in all.... good movie for kids to watch. Not highly recommended.
So I'm wondering what you people are trying to say that this moviestole the plot from "Madagascar." Well big news: there is strongevidence that this movie's script was written, finished, and overlookedbefore "Madagascar."This movie was good to me. I thought the animation could beat"Madagascar" any day. The plot is better, too. They also have KieferSutherland, Pactrick Warburton and Jim Belushi's voices. And what doyou get when they are in a movie altogether? A good movie. You all canbe quiet about "'Madagascar' was first. It was the early bird. Thismovie stole the plot." Enough of that. I would sit and watch the movieuntil (Spoiler) the dancing part begins at the very end. I am anoptimist for "The Wild". I mean, there are plot holes, but those areminor. Rent or buy it on DVD. Trust me. The kids that are ages 6 andunder will definitely like it. But will you? You decide.
This review is from: The Wild (DVD) Very cute and entertaining - My girlfriend's son wanted a new copy (he lost his), so I ordered it for his birthday. He was SO happy! We stayed to watch it with him since we had never seen it...Great kids movie!
This is a great movie that is totally worth seeing! The graphics are sodetailed and fantastic. The creative team really made the animals lookrealistic. The hair and movements are very well done. The movie has afamiliar story line however the characters and voice talents create avery entertaining and endearing show. Kiefer Sutherland does a greatjob! There are very colorful backgrounds and well developedcharacters.Thankfully there wasn't any long, boring musicalnumbers...you know the ones that lose the attention of everyone underthe age of 6. And when that happens, the fun fidget game starts...ifyou are a parent you know exactly what I mean! This is another Disneyclassic! Go see it and enjoy!
"The Wild" is a film that unfortunately epitomizes the problems withthe cgi "genre". It is poorly executed, badly written and woefullylaughless. The problems in the film are apparent everywhere from thecharacterization to the score. First off, the film is cliché-ridden toa very poor effect. The story consists of the obvious formula; therescue mission of a lion cub leads 5 animals on a journey ofself-discovery. Sampson, the father lion, wants to go alone to rescuehis son (who's depressed about not being able to find his roar), butlow and behold his friends, a diverse clan of zoo animals of all shapesand sizes, find a way to tag along. We have the intelligent, the goofysidekick, and more comic relief figures. None of the characters aregiven any life, they all fall into flat conventions. The snake is themost obvious example of this. There is an un-written rule that animatedchildren's films must include a dimwitted character, and the snake isan unfortunate representation of this. He delivers one out of the threelaughs in the film. The animation is surprisingly beautiful at times, but for some reason appears uninspired. It is clear however that mostof the effort was put into the rendering of the film and the scriptmust of been conceived by multiple individuals along the way. Anothersign of mediocrity is the music that was chosen. Music is chosen thatsure fits the mood of each scene but would be better suited to a liveaction human film and not for a film about animals. It ends up feeling, again, very clichéd. The film is noisy and erratically paced, butperhaps the film isn't particularly ambitious. If it aims to achieve afun film to entertain only children, my only reservations with it wouldbe the lack of laughs. I don't think the film would be terriblyenjoyable for children, and that is extremely important for a film thatprovides not much else. Children seem to have moved on beyond cartoon'boing sounds' and laughs derived solely from the fact that these areanimals talking. I'm sure they would prefer the likes of "Madagascar",which I will not compare to "The Wild" even though the similarities arequite interesting. So, "The Wild" comes up short in delivering evenlight amusement. To its defense, it isn't riddled with unnecessarytongue in cheek jokes about sex (the now pathetic re-occurringoccurrence), and the bathroom humor is tame. The animation, althoughleaning toward the uncanny valley effect, is nowhere near terrible.Sure, the environments look a little stale due to lack of movement andthe camera work could benefit from less closeups. It isn't unappealing, which is a quality that many mediocre animations fall under. Thelimitations of cgi are felt, however. I just felt more could be donewith this film. I guess it was just a very mediocre attempt.
This movie was so awesome.. me n my friend have dvr and recorded this movie. This movie was so funny we kep rewinding and rewinging.. and watched it the very next day. and those of u who dont like tha movie u r on something cuz this movie rocx.
This movie is an almost complete copy of Madagascar. It's annoying and boringly bland. It's not funny at all and too emotional. Disney obviously has some kind of problem. In conclusion, this movie is mentally retarded.
I went to the pre-release here in Bogota, an that movie let mecompletely down. I expected more, and it didn't make me laugh in thewhole hour and a half. I got disappointed with "Ice Age 2", and I'msurprised, very surprised: two huge embarrassing disappointments inless than two weeks. Hollywood: I'm ashamed on you! I hope "Over theHedge", "Flushed Away", and/or "Ratatouille" save the day (it's betterto say, to save the "worst-animation-movies-year-ever"). I also hope, that Hollywood actors can choose better movies to act in (well, theirvoices), because we'll be screwed if animation movies in a near futureare as lousy as "The (supposedly) Wild".
Not funny AT ALL, too much slap stick and not enough actual cleverwriting. Poor Keefer, it's a pity the only lines he really has aresappy attempts at being sentimental or repetitive calls for his son.All I can say is thank god for Blag( the beloved Kronk from Emporor'sNew Groove) and Eddie Izzard who were the only successful installmentsof humor. Character's were unmemorable and over abundant. And if you can't see the glaring similarities from Finding Nemo orMadagascar you're in denial. (same accent for pidgin and lemur king, same need to get out to "THE WILD", Son needing Independence sparked bya hurtful comment about being in their father's shadow, significance ofa roar...etc)To be enjoyed by the VERY young to be quite frank. Absolutely dreadful.
This review is from: The Wild (DVD) The DVD I ordered was rated as "good condition", but it actually was in perfect condition.
I wanted to see this movie since the day it came out. I wanted to seeit for Eddie Izzard and for the fact that Madagascar stole their ideaand got their film out first. Seriously though, this film should havegone straight to DVD! It was aimed at 5 year olds which isn't a badthing but definitely not for the theater crowd and not for the kidsparents. I had a tough time sitting through it. I did however LOVEEddie's performance as Nigel. That really was one of the only redeemingqualities of this movie. The story was a bit crazy and aloof. This justdidn't FEEL like a typical Disney movie, kinda like 'Home on theRange'. It just should have gone straight to DVD and fire the marketingat the kindergarten crowd. Madagascar was not that good either but itwas better than this.
Okay, let's put it this way: Combine Madagascar, Finding Nemo, and TheLion King in a bad way....and you get this movie. "The Wild" is such arip-off. It's sad that Disney not only rip-offed Madagascar (aDreamworks film), but two of THEIR OWN MOVIES: Finding Nemo and TheLion King. The plot is predictable, the characters are bland andforgettable, and the jokes are awful. The only redeeming quality inthis film is the animation. I just LOVED the animation! It was morerealistic than Madagascar's animation. But Madagascar is superior toThe Wild in every other way. That wildebeest guy is so annoying! Whywould a wildebeest suddenly want to eat meat? It's not right!!! Thewildebeest guy was BY FAR the worst character in the entire film.Disney just can't make a good non-Pixar film, can they. Leave thecomputer-animation to Pixar. They've produced wonderful, emotional,heart-breaking, and award-winning movies, which apparently no otherDisney group can do. To conclude, The Wild is certainly not wild. Skipit.
This was probably the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. Itlacked any plot line, the jokes just weren't funny, and the animalslooked like something from a horror film. I saw 'The Wild' with twoyoung children (age six) and two of my good friends. The childrenweren't even fooled by it. One of them remarked, "So, was that supposedto be funny?" I understand that in the film business the "early birdgets the egg" and in this case the "early bird" was 'Madagascar.' But,it wasn't 'Madagascar' that it copied. It was really just a bad remakeof 'The Lion King.' Every aspect of the movie was stolen from another, and I'm not kidding. Also, the dialogue was just ridiculous. Here's asample: "Get away from us, turkey jerky!" As you can see, this moviewas just plain ridiculous. The character's were absurd, andunbelievable, the plot was nonexistent, and it was really a rip off.Don't waste your money to see this dreadful film. You're just going towalk out and be disappointed.
I watched this movie few days ago and the first thing i noticed thatThe Wild has many things in common with Madagascar. It is not a totalrip-off of Madagascar, Finding Nemo etc. but The Wild isn't near asgood as that movies. The movie is not boring but it is just not funny. All the jokes are already seen, and are preformed in the worst possibleway. I haven't laughed at all when I was watching it, but it has a lotof action and it is kind of interesting. I think that Madagascar is alot better movie(for me the best animated movie of all time) but if youare not too busy this is not a total waste of time.I give this movie 4/10 just because I didn't fall asleep while i waswatching it.
My son laughed all through it. My two year old daughter walked out. Ithas a good cast and there's not a lot else out there. Kind of sappy forme, but hey, did I mention my three year old liked it.It's easy for people to tear stuff down anymore. It's hard work to getanything animated out at all.Besides it has eddied Izzard. I love that man! Everything he does isfunny. So he's a Brit, he doesn't need to be an Aussie, he is fine aswhat he is.Keifer Sutherland is miscast as the wishy washy lion but hey, so muchis life. Did I mention my three year old liked it? enjoy.
Can you say RIP OFFF? Its like Madagascar mixed with finding nemo.Disney is getting really desperate. Michael Eisner screwed the companyup and it is going to take forever to fix. I think the last Disneymovie that was good that was animated was Lilo and Stitch. With allthese creative people in the world, its a wonder why Disney cannot findthem and use them for their movies. I swear if I hear antother, inuindo, or bodily function joke I will kill something. Not only didthe Animation suck, the plot was tripe. I am praying that cars will beamazing. Next to Doogal (DONT EVER SEE THAT), this movie was just asbad.
I would have to say I personally thought this movie was wonderful. Theanimation was superb, the characters were amusing, and the dialog andbanter was fabulous. I laughed throughout the movie, sometimes so hardI thought I might hurt myself. My husband also enjoyed it. And I have to say, I disliked Madagascar immensely. I never laughedonce during that entire film. The humor in The Wild was much morebelievable. And I thought that the plot in Madagascar was much morepredictable than that of The Wild.Overall I would have to give The Wild a 9 out of 10. The only thingthat could have made it better would have been if it was longer. Butyou know, you really can't go wrong with an all star cast.
This review is from: The Wild (DVD) It was received in a reasonable time. It plays great. DVD box is in good shape. We love watching this movie.
