The Truth

This review is from: The Union: The Business Behind Getting High (DVD) The Union speaks the truth using only the facts about the history and current conclusions of marijuana use. I'm saddened by the ignorance of our community. I'm saddened that our community doesn't think for themselves and do their own research and comparisons to other "legal" drugs, eg. alchohol. Time will change this. Thank you for this documentary which should be a requirement to be seen in all universities when taking courses in medicine or law or teaching.

A real eye-opener

I'm not a pot smoker. In fact, I've never even tried it. People tend toalways assume I'm a complete pothead; especially when first meeting me.My good friends and I now just all agree that I must have a pothead'spersonality or something, heh.Just maybe about a year ago, give or take, I was completely against thegood stuff. I still believed what I had "learned" in D.A.R.E., tellingme that you could overdose from your first puff (seriously, our policeguy told us this, lol). I thought it was more likely to cause lungcancer, proved to kill braincells, would make me mentally disabled, become self-destructive, etc. I thought that weed was as bad as heroin, simply because I was constantly hearing about how bad it is and howit'll screw your life up. I mean, I honestly thought that people whowanted medicinal marijuana just wanted to get stoned - thankfully, Iknow better now.My opinion starting changing about about a year ago, when I read anarticle that suggested that weed could actually help treat a physicaldisability my mother suffers with. This made me curious, and I quicklybegan doing a ton of research. Eventually, I decided to watch "TheUnion" after seeing a few people comment about it being a greatdocumentary to get information from.By the time I watched it, I was already turning towards pro-marijuanalegalization, and this documentary helped me get over any doubt. Theygive a lot of information, and information that is worth knowing.Looking back to a year ago, before starting my research and beforewatching the documentary, I can't believe how ignorant I was. I can'tbelieve the stereotypes and judgements I held while completelymisinformed. Now, I know better. I'm not a pot smoker; I've never even touched it,but to me, that just shows that it doesn't take a complete pothead torealize that it should be made legal. Now, when I get the chance, Icorrect people's statements and misinformations about marijuana andI've provided several people with better information and I'verecommended this very documentary to a few people.I think the main reason I held such hatred towards the plant beforebeing properly informed was because when my older sister was a teen, she became very self-destructive and caused a lot of drama and painwithin the family, and at that time she did get caught smoking weed, and I associated her behaviour with it.My mom, who also used to be completely dead-set against weed, is not asagainst it as before since I've given her information. Although she'snot willing on trying it yet and still a little sceptical, she's muchmore open to the possibility of trying to get a doctor's recommendationfor it than she would've been otherwise. She would qualify for it, andit's legal here if you've got a doctor's recommendation. I want to gether to watch this (and a couple other documentaries, but mostly thisone) in hopes that she'll at least give it a go and hopefully be ableof decreasing her medication intake (She needs to take a lot on a dailybasis, some of which seem kinda sketchy.)So in conclusion, I recommend this to anyone and everyone; it's a realeye-opener and very informative.

A little one sided, but very good

Off the top, let me first say I was very entertained by this film andfound it very informative and a little thought provoking. However, as adocumentary, it has some issues.First, let me get the 'cons' out of the way. I will say the productionvalues are low, however, some of the best documentaries are shot onshoe string budgets by people that really just have something they wantto say! The music can be too prominent, monotonous, and a littleirritating at times. It also doesn't fit the subject matter at points.Stock footage is a little over done, and over edited. Also, you reallyknow right off the bad where the film makers stand on the subjectmatter! It can feel quite one sided at times, and can present some ofthe street people being interviewed as naive with uneducated points ofview. However, all that being said, there were a LOT of well made points thatcame up! The film makers take you inside the operations, and show youfirst hand how this world operates. He interviews some big names, andasks a lot of the big questions and covers a lot of areas that we neverquite hear about.Even if it's not the best documentary (and I'm not even sure how thatstandard could even be set...) this is one that you should take in!It'll be worth your time!

Simply Mind Blowing

Being a very knowledgeable person about marijuana, I was still blown away by the amount of facts and content in this film. I believe if everyone in the united states watched this today, the world would have an incredibly different outlook tomorrow. This film is not biased towards either side, its also not incorrect. Its simply the truth given to you on a very humble informative platter. 5 stars goes to the makers of this movie. Hands down incredible. I recommend this to anyone. Regardless who you are, you will exquisitely enjoy this movie from beginning to end.

This Documentary is UNBELIEVABLY eye opening...

First off, let me start off by saying by watching this I found out the only reason why it's illegal is because of economics, because their are a thousand different things marijuana can fix that pharmaceutical drugs are prescribed for. So it would cost pharmaceutical companies billions of dollars, if marijuana was made legal it would cost Alcohol Companies money as well. When you see those "anti-drug commercials" those are sponsored by "Drug Free America" the company "Drug Free America" is sponsored by Alcohol Companies! It's hilarious, alcohol is a drug!400,000 people die each year ALONE from smoking cigarettes. No one has ever died from marijuana, EVER. (I challenge anyone who read this to see for themselves)*Actual Review*This movie is really amazing. It's not long, and it's packed with useful information that should be brought up to everybody's attention about marijuana. The number 1 thing that really surprised me was the information about 'other drugs' that nobody's (at least through television) are mentioning, about Alcohol, Cigarettes, and Prescription and over-the-counter drugs. It's well written, and very immersive.I would highly recommend anyone who is interested or slightly interested to check this documentary out. You will not be disappointed and will leave with newly found information that will change your view about marijuana and the propaganda that's being fed to you, and the world. Have a open mind, and be a free thinker, find out the truth about such debatable subject's and most of all, be smart, logical, and reasonable.Take Care,Jorge

The Best Marijuana / Legalization Documentary Currently Available

This is the best current documentary on the subject of pot prohibition and marijuana stigmas! Very well produced, I gotta give props to the director here...many points scored for producing a modern, entertaining, and well-arranged film. Grant you this film is biased on its recurring theme of "let's legalize already" and somewhat misleading with its title of business behind pot (only some of the movie is devoted to that specifically) but this is the most modern, edgy, and entertaining documentary I've seen for some time.It pits both sides of the legalization argument and shows how many of the anti-legalization/anti-marijuana arguments are completely false and based merely on ignorance, prejudice and lack-of-facts. Whether you are for marijuana prohibition or against it, this film inspires what should be a national discussion of the topic. This film is a MUST SEE for all interested in this topic. An important film for convincing arguments on the subject and perfect mix of humor, entertainment, and education.

Makes a mountain out of a Mole- hill

First up, this resembles a student documentary more than a movie. Imean, seriously, I personally know people who'd make a better moviegiven the same subject matter. This is basically some nonsense periodin history that no one gives a s**t about, apparently not even in BCfrom what the filmmakers themselves say. Even if it was, this filmruins it. How it actually got nominated for an Oscar makes me doubt thelevel of the Academy's parameters. This movie was tasteless, pointlessand senseless, and that is a comment usually reserved for Bollywoodmovies, which is saying a lot. It goes from bad to worse, tryingexhaustively to be "hard-hitting" or "gritty" or whatever they chooseto call it. Not only does it deal with some insignificant bunch ofhorny, juvenile, morally self-presumptuous, revolutionary wannabes, butalso has barely any AUTHENTICITY, which I thought is the crux of anyhistorical film. Perhaps they knew this, hence the inclusion of a highlyuncalled for reefer party scene to get some attention. Not only that, they offended real people linked to the characters in the film. Now I'mnot one to comment on countries and how they should deal with theirreefer problems, but if you're making a movie out of it, at least showsome basic intellect and don't spice it up like some popcorn movie. Toconclude, if you missed this movie, too bad for you! Dr Monsieur Poopoo, University of Paris Laarbeeklaan 103, B - 1090Walloon Region

All Canadians need to see this DVD

I've been listening to the police, Crown, and politicians lie to us about cannabis for 45 years. Irrespective of the science presented, they routinely default back to the "pot is evil" script - one which has paid off for their organizations or their personal careers. This movie will show you why officials have been able to get away with their deceitful propaganda for so long. This film may make you angry, but it may also give you hope that rationality may one day prevail in our drug policies.

Best documentary I've seen in a VERY long time!

This movie is beyond interesting... it challenges the very essence of what you think you know about the marijuana (and other drug) businesses in the US and Canada... I have no idea how they were able to get such great interviews with not only celebrities but government officials and other personalities as well... I can't wait to get my copy of this to watch at home since I've seen this flick a few times on the film festival circuit... I HIGHLY recommend you check out this documentary!

The light at the end of the tunnel

This review is from: The Union: The Business Behind Getting High (DVD) It is amazing how hypocritical the government is there is no power like the power of the people because the power of the people wont stop. This movie will show the light to everybody on why Marijuana is the almighty plant whether you consider it a drug, pain reliever, way to get and appetite for anybody who disagrees with Cannabis or LOVES it you should not only see this movie you should own it and show it to the world.

A Must Have Item for anyone on the border about Marijuana

This review is from: The Union: The Business Behind Getting High (DVD) A Must Have Item for anyone on the border about Marijuana. Very Objective view on the subject. As Joe Rogan puts it "We've been lied to all of these years"

2012-04-23 05:06:08

An enlightening documentary!

Every American needs to watch this film. We've been hoodwinked by our government and medical companies for way too long!

2012-04-22 14:24:51

Life and view changing documentary!

Before watching The Union my views on marijuana were ok with it, but thought it was still a bad thing to do. After watching this beautiful piece of art I am now a full on Marijuana supporter. This documentary is something that should be shown in today's schools, but sadly they are doing the opposite and lying to our children about this plant. Anyone that dislikes marijuana should really look at this film I guarantee that it will change your outlook on it and the people that use it. So yes I encourage everyone to go and watch this film if you don't want to buy it there are places online to watch it, but I would highly recommend supporting the makers of this film by spending a little cash on it.

Legalize It!

This is an excellent, enlightening documentary that illustrates the futility of marijuana prohibition. Neither do I smoke it nor have any interest in it, but given its known effects (and lack thereof) there is little convincing evidence that marijuana is more dangerous than alcohol. Legalizing it right now would give California a shot at avoiding bankruptcy even though that would negatively impact The Union in British Columbia. I found this film--and its description of that union--very entertaining. I hope that all the governments in North America come to their senses regarding marijuana and the fact that prohibition results in only the criminals thriving.

Unbelievably edifying - and amusing

This review is from: The Union: The Business Behind Getting High (DVD) This must-see documentary has opened my eyes to the underlying issues of the war on drugs, and does a fantastic job of being both fair and entertaining.

2012-04-08 23:24:26

Best film ever.

This is by far one of the best documentaries I have ever seen. It doesnt only show that marijuana should have no criminal penalties but it also shows how important it once was to our society and still can be. Not only that but it explains many interesting facts a lot of people did not know about not only marijuana but our government and our economy. I highly reccomend this to anyone especially people in favor of keeping it legal. Should make some people think twice before they make an opinion. In conclusion, this is a must buy.
