Abs vs. Drabs

The Abs or the Drabs... pick one Bella. The problem is there is not enough story to go the distance. To stretchthings out we get repetition and back story way late. We get agraduation speech that says Bella is too young to make a careerdecision, but she wrestles with the forever decision.Talk to dad. Visit with mom and sit and talk. Do a lot of walk andtalk. Be carried and talk. So much conversation, so quick epic battle.Robert Pattinson plays his role with all the emotion of a dead vampire. With the exception of Ashley Greene, the perky vampire, everyone isdepressed. It's no fun to be human, depressing to be a wolf and sucksto be a vampire. A total eclipse of a positive movie experience.

Once again... EPIC fail.

Okay let me start out by saying this installment along wth the othertwo fails. I read the books and I was never particularly fond ofthem... I'm a Harry Potter shipper. The books have always lacked thedimension and depth that really makes a book, or series. A standout. There was none of complexity in the books that I love about HP.Twilight Saga is completely one sided and easily forgettable in myeyes. And the movies.. Oh my they are HORRENDOUS! The acting is well, one sided. Once again no complexity or even chemistry. The actorsaren't believable. At all. And these movies WOULD NOT be the successthey are if it weren't for crazed Tweens and teens. Being a teen femalemyself, I just don't see it. I can't stand Lautner's, Pattinson's, orStewarts acting. Oh and to some of the reviewers mentioning how hatersdon't understand the deeper story line or whatever that bull is....There is NO deeper story line, the plot is weak and it's all just onesided fluff.DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY & TIME... Unless of course, you're a crazedfanatic that goes goo goo ga ga for sparkling vampires and freakishwerewolves. ;)

Very weird item

This review is from: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) This is ONLY the movie, NO extra features at all (not even for digital download). I pre-ordered to get it on release day... which Amazon DOES NOT do anymore. Hubby thought he found something cheaper & switched items in my cart, so I got this crap version. Even the case & paper insert look like a bootleg copy. Don't buy this for a Twilight fan... They will be highly disappointed. It wasn't any kind of deal. I have no idea why this was even made, unless it is an actual bootleg item. Very disappointing that it even exists. & Eclipse is my favorite book & movie. I have been promised another copy.

Mediocre at best but not the worst film ever.

The Twilight Saga gets much hate from people and a lot of love fromfangirls but in this addition in the Twilight Series it is the best inthe series. Not saying it is a good film, it is still bad but it hasdone much better then the previous installments. The Characters arefrom what we have learned from the previous films but the interestingpart of this film is that Edward and Jacob are the ones that developthe most and there is a scene where we see the two actually not hateeach other and actually talk and develop but the next scene they behatin each other. Bella still has no character or great development atall. The only character I liked in this film and really wish he hadmore screen time would be Jasper. Jasper is probably the best in theseries but his screen time in the films are cut short, I'll return towhy I liked Jasper later on in story. The Two Antagonists of the filmis a red head vampire named Victoria who did nothing at all! InTwilight she hanged out with the bad vampires and then wanted to getrevenge for a death of her lover. In New Moon... shes in the film for 3minutes and doesn't do anything for the film! In Eclipse she doesnothing for like an hour of the film and then finally talks to anotherAntagonist named Riley who as well only forms an army and falls forVictoria after knowing her for two minutes, very lame andunderdeveloped character. Victoria really had no part in the film butto be the bad guy and run around a lot. The Story is simple but goes onfor way to long! Most of the film consists of Bella and Edwardtalking... Jacob and Bella talking... and talking! Until finally anhour or so in the film the plot is finally set in about a vampire armyand then... More Talking! Its mostly character development scenes formost of the film until there are two interesting parts in the film, thefirst being a blond female vampire who tells her backstory about howshe became a vampire which actually was a good part in the film but thebest was the backstory of Jasper in which played strong and I liked, itsucked it was so quick though because I really enjoyed watching thebackstory. Basically its all dialogue scenes until the action betweenthe good vampires and werewolves finally kicks in to fight the badvampires. The action scenes are really good and well done and wellshot. The ending is short and sweet as this could have been thebeginning of the film right here! There could have been no conflict ifBella didn't screw around with everyone in this movie. Overall thisfilm was not the worst film ever, it is bad but mediocre at best withexceptional acting, alright cinematography, and a very slow plot. Iwouldn't watch it again.

Fire and ice -- but not much really happening

The extremely successful romantic franchise mostly if not entirely forteenage girls has reached a midpoint, with this the third in the seriesand two more to come. How is it doing? Well, the strategy is good, thistime: some violent, if blurred, battle scenes; some out and out sensualattraction -- and physical contact -- between Bella and her twoboyfriends, the delicate vampire and fiery werewolf. They come face toface with each other and with the object of their affections, stillwith no thought of becoming sexual, following the series pattern, withBella exchanging some warm kisses with both boys, nothing more. Themovie begins with Bella and Edward (Kirsten Stweart and RobertPattinson) in a dim but flowery meadow, making out, while Bella readsRobert Frost's poem "Fire and Ice," whose proffered dual choice as tohow the world will end reflects her oscillation between the chilly butsweet and pretty Edward Cullen, the vampire beau, and his rival, JacobBlack (Taylor Lautner), a fiery werewolf, a hotblooded mammal."Some say the world will end in fire,/Some say in ice./From what I'vetasted of desire/I hold with those who favor fire./But if it had toperish twice,/I think I know enough of hate/To say that for destructionice/Is also great/And would suffice."(Bella's reading this is the one allusion to the fact that she actuallyhas subjects to study in high school, including English.) Twilight:Eclipse does not rise to the disturbing apocalyptic level of Frost'spoem, but it does hint at the radical dilemma Bella faces in choosingbetween the tow boys. Edward is her first love. But he offers nowarmth. "Face it, I'm much hotter than you," Jacob gets to say toEdward up on a mountain, when Bella is freezing in a tent and needs acuddle to avoid hypothermia. It may not really matter to devotes, but it's more obvious than everthat of the series principals, only Kiristen Steweart as Bella is muchof an actor. Robert Pattinson as the romantic vampire seems only barelypossessed of any kind of reality. As the Indian-werewolf clan boyfriendTaylor Lautner at least, as required, is lusty, angry, and alive and isspeaking in his own accent, unlike the London-born Pattinson.Unfortunately Lautner has a whiny childish intonation unworthy of historso, Bella, or being a semi-mythical creature. Bella has bargained to marry Edward if they can consummate their love, after high school graduation, and she can join him in eternalvampire-hood, a fate he has always wanted to spare her, for reasons hehas yet to reveal. Old fashioned Edward gives Bella a ring which washis mother's. But graduation still seems far away. She is increasinglytempted by Jacob, or at least he insists she is. But that remains up inthe air. It's all about titillation. In the background other stuff is necessary as temporary distractionfrom the fact that when this episode is over we're still pretty closeto square one. Jacob and Edward and their respective clans team up todeal with an invasion of a sudden horde of vampire "newborns" whodescend from elsewhere, attracted by Bella, for some reason. We learnthat in their first few months of vampire-hood is when vampires are attheir most powerful. These freshly-mined and dangerously violentblood-suckers clash with the Cullens and the werewolves in their wildfour-legged form for some rapid-fire action. It's all so pumped up withCGI and loud music none of it makes sense, but young people are used tothis kind of trickery and don't know what they're missing: it's like avideo game, but one that's not interactive.Apart from being better received critically than Twilight number two, number one one had a big advantage: the whole concept was new then, andthe appearance of vampire siblings in a Pacific Northwest high schoolhad a campy novelty about it. I liked the idea that the weather upthere was so gray vampires would choose the region to live in, with theCullens able to inhabit a woodsy modern villa with lots of windows.Edward wasn't even there for most of number two. Now he is back, andthe rivalry between the two boy-men livens things up. Trouncing therival outsider newborn vampires provides action that has little effectexcept for providing Edward and Jacob a chance to cooperate with eachother. Bella talks to Edward, Bella talks to Jacob, and Jacob talks toEdward. All three have zeroed in on each other more than in number oneand number two. But has anything changed? Nor really. All this may makemore sense in the Stephenie Meyer novels -- but mus be pretty darnsilly there too.None of these Twilight movies makes much sense without filtering themthrough a teenage girl's viewpoint, according to which, evidently, boysare very attractive but also scary. It feels as though the largeraction that takes place is just a metaphor for stuff outside Bella'sreal understanding, a world of danger and confusion, when herinvolvement with these two boys, with their opposite-pole natures, isdanger and confusion enough. David Spade is good at keeping the actionflowing; not much can make up for the shortcomings in the actingcategory. Striking closeups happen throughout of the wolf clan, thevampires, and Bella. Visually the vampires win out: the images seemsickly and twilight-dim nearly all the time. Natural light and shadow, the essential stuff of real and traditional photography, are not to befound. Maybe the next installment will be in 3-D (the way things aregoing) and it will all look even more unreal.

This review is from: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (Two-Disc Special Edition) (DVD) This purchase was a gift that was requested by the recipient. Eclipse

New to the world of the Twilight Saga? If yes keep reading. If you are looking for a new fantasy adventure series to fall in love with believe me you are making the right choice. If you love the harry potter books and inspired films by JK Rolling then you will love the books and inspired films by Stephanie Myer. Twilight Eclipse is the third movie and book and to fully appreciate this film I suggest you watch the two films before it and read the books Twilight and New Moon. If you are a parent trying to get your child interested into more history books and movies the twilight saga is a great place to start. Stephanie Myer really did her homework for creating the world of twilight. Readers and viewers will get an in depth view of what life was like in the early centuries especially in the twilight saga eclipse film. Watch Rosalie's pre vampire world of life in the 1930's and Jaspers life as a younger calvary solider. This movie will surely inspire anyone to learn more about history. The music can also inspire viewers to appreciate the art of classical music. Howard Shore's production of each musical piece really helps set the mood for the world of twilight and the most important band muse give our action adrenaline junkies something too. In fact had it not been for the band muse none of this would have been possible since their music is what inspired stephanie myer to write the book. Looking to broden your horizons of literature, music and above all fun then buy this movie if anything it will give you something to smile about and with the way things are in the world today what wrong with something to brighten up your day? Absolutely nothing. Smile, laugh and enjoy eclipse and mark your calenders for the final chapter in the twilight saga breaking dawn coming to theaters November 18, 2011 for part one and November 16,2012 for part 2. I am literally bursting at the seems for those two films to come out next and I am counting down the days until December 4 of this year for the eclipse dvd to be released.

YUCK!!!!

This review is from: Twilight Saga: Eclipse (Amazon Instant Video) This is not a good movie, nor is it anywhere close to a faithful adaptation of Stephenie Meyer's book. These movies, all three, make the characters out to be so shallow and immature. The point is that Bella, who has always been very mature for her age, fits with Edward who is actually over a 100 years old, very mature and controlled. They had them doing things in the movie that the Edward and Bella in the book would never have done. I can't understand why Stephenie Meyer would go along with it. It has that slick quality when watching it, and you can't get pulled into the movie or care about the characters that way. If these movies weren't based on the best-selling books, no one would ever watch them. I am not into sci-fi or vampire movies or anything like that. What I enjoy in the books is the romance, the give and take, and the self-sacrifice in Edward and Bella's relationship. I enjoy reading these because of the lack of sex, etc. which just cheapens and degrades the story. So many parts were left out, and I know it is hard to keep everything in when making a movie. I liked Rachelle as Victoria and saw no reason for the change to Bryce Dallas Howard, except they must have thought she was a bigger name. And they made Jessica valedictorian? Boy, was that way off!!! The scene between Bella and her father concerning sex was just ludicrous. Oh, yuck, this was the very worst one. I guess, out of the three, the second one has to be the best of the bunch. These vampires are also looking a little aged!! No romance at all! Zero! What a disappointment. I love the books, really don't like the movies.

Boring melodrama with a tiny bit of action to suffice

I'm not much of a Twilight fan or a Twilight hater. Just finishedwatching this movie, and it was only okay. It's definitely not theworst movie out there, but there was nothing great about it. I feltlike the whole movie was this melodrama between Jacob, Bella andEdward. The movie kept repeating this drama over and over so many timesin the film that I got downright sick of it! The rest of the movie isspent with Bella and Edward arguing about whether or not Bella shouldbecome a vampire. The scenes with Jacob are so drawn out. This moviecould have cut out about 30 minutes of screen time. The army ofvampires thing is barely in the movie. And why is Jacob so obsessed with Bella? What on earth is so specialabout her? Can't he find another girl? Bella keeps saying that she isnot interested in Jacob, but he keeps harassing her. He's like thatannoying guy in your class who is so obsessed with you that he won'tleave you alone. And Edward is way too overprotective. Why doesn't helet her have a life? And why is the army of vampires after them in thefirst place? It's like everyone is obsessed with Bella, but she's honestly not thatinteresting of a character at all. What was up with her kissing Jacobin front of Edward? What a slut! I'd have to say the only likable maincharacter in this film is Edward. At least Edward has respect forpersonal boundaries and is a gentleman. Unlike Jacob, who tries toforce Bella to kiss him! He receives a smack on the face for this. Icheered at that part. In summary, Eclipse is better than the embarrassing New Moon, but notas enjoyable as Twilight.

WTF, Amazon Prime and pre-order massive fail

This review is from: The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (Special Blu-ray/DVD Single-Disc Edition) (Blu-ray) I'm very frustrated. I'm an Amazon Prime member and have been since it started. I've pre-ordered a ton of stuff, and it's always come the morning of it's release. Until now. I pre-ordered this, and didn't even get the shipment notification until Friday, when it was already supposed to be here. Ok, if they shipped it late, I can forgive it once, if they'd sent it for Saturday delivery to make up for it. But they didn't, they sent it USPS, and apparently slowest possible route ever. Now it's Monday night and I STILL don't have it. Lame Amazon - next time I'll just buy it (cheaper) from Wal-mart.I've seen the film in the theater, it's by far the best of the lot. This review is low entirely because of Amazon, not the movie or the story.

Patience pays off

The first two episodes of the Twilight series (particularly the second)required a considerable amount of patience from the audience (swooningover Robert Pittinson and Taylor Lautner notwithstanding) as theytantamount to two establishing scenes (ultra-long ones in this case)that usually appear in the beginning of a movie. The patience of theaudience finally pays off in this third instalment where, armed withthe familiarity with the characters and background, they finally getfull enjoyment of the movie as events unfold. The main thrust of the story has to be the eternal triangle. Thetantalized sentiments of the three protagonists are rather well drawnout by the movie makers. After giving each of the two gentlemanconsecutively centre stage in one of the first two episodes, the moviemakers now engineer a good balance between them, pleading the case ofeach, alternatively. Lautner attempts to repeat Clark Gable's feat ofsinglehandedly destroy the shirt industry ("It happened one night",1934) while Pattinson exhibits a gentlemanly trait reminiscent ofLeslie Howard's character Ashley ("Gone with the wind", 1939). KristenStewart, almost minimalistic in her close-up-abundant portrayal of theno-nonsense contemporary young lady, is convincing as theirirresistible object of undying devotion.Almost as important is of course the matter of life and death (twolayers, in this particular movie), played out by no less than 4 powergroups - three of vampires (one old, one new and the Cullen) and one ofwerewolves. The build- up is good and the convoluted web of conflicts, alliances and ultra motives rival that of the modern internationalpolitical intrigue. The finale is a tad anticlimactic but this youwould tend to forgive, being aware that something will have to be leftfor the final episode "Breaking dawn".Another attraction of this movie is the rich pageantry of interestingcharacters, of which only a few will be mentioned here as examples, asthere are so many. We get three intriguing side stories. Jasper (a verycool Jackson Rathbone) tells how he became an expert in fighting these"Newbies". Rosaline softens towards Bella's approach and explains herapparent hostility with her tragic past. The werewolves reveal theorigin of their conflict with the vampires. Each of these stories hasalso a bearing to a later scene in the movie. As expected, we see theconclusion of Victoria, this time played by an actor with goodcredentials, Bryce Dallas Howard who was hailed as future bright starin "The village" (2004) (but unfortunately has not yet realized herfull potentials to-date). Dakota Fanning's Jane of the Volturi vampireclan that we had only a glimpse of last time ("Full moon") now makesher presence more strongly felt. Among many others, the one that isworth mentioning is the ever-present Anna Kendrick (playing Jessica)whose face you will not forget if you have seen her in Tom Hank's "Upin the air" (2009).

2 dvds would have been nice

The movie is fantastic and by far my favorite in the series with a job well done with staying as faithful as possible to the book. Regarding the blu-ray plus dvd release, I would have prefered two separate discs-one blu-ray and one-standard rather than a double-sided "two discs in one" option. I may be being overly picky, but it is difficult to keep fingerprints off of the dvd when popping it back into place in the case.

Matt_Layden 2012-05-11 03:50:13

The best "Twilight" film

That's not saying much though, cause the film still lacks a lot ofqualities that would deem a film enjoyable. They are pumping thesefilms out like it's nobodies business and unfortunately they are makingboatloads of cash. New Moon, the worst of the three, was misguided andhad no interesting conflict, other than who Bella should date. Finallythe series gives the viewers a showdown of violence as the "vampires"and shape-shifters take on a new army of "vampires". There is a quote on the internet that best describes my feelingstowards the series and it compares it to the other mega cash cow HarryPotter. "Harry Potter is about confronting fears, finding innerstrength and doing what is right in the face of adversity. Twilight isabout how important it is to have a boyfriend." Now, despite what youmay think, I don't hate the series. If I did I wouldn't watch them andflame Twilight messageboards. Instead I go in with an open mind. Yetfor some reason the series continues to impress me with how lazy andboring it is.I sit here wondering though, what could possibly happen in the next twofilms. I get the fact that they get married and have a kid, but itseems like a epilogue that is going to be stretched out way too long. The immediate conflict with Victoria is solved. So unless some kind ofVolturi stuff happens (most likely), are two more films reallynecessary? The answer is no. They took a page right out of HarryPotter's book and decided to split the last film in two so they couldmake twice as much money. The young girls still flock to see ashirtless cry complain about wanting to be with a girl and a moody guywho no one understand but her. In real life do young girls have tochoose between such an incredibly shallow pair of boys? Eclipse happens to have the best fight sequences and dialogue thatdoesn't suck. The characters finally seem comfortable in their roles, despite still not reaching what I would call, quality acting. KristenBell herself, for whatever reason, looks totally different in this filmthan the previous one. Not a complaint, just something I noticed. Shestill lacks the strength (if there were any to begin with) thecharacter so desperately needs to be interesting. These charactersdon't really seem to change. They have been saying the same stuff inevery single film. Jacob cries because he wants to be with Bella.Edward wants to be with Bella, but doesn't want her to become a"vampire". Bella still wants to leave any career aspirations at home, along with her friends and family and kill herself to be with a boy. The most interesting scene in the whole film is when Jacob and Edwardfinally sit down to talk one on one without Bella interrupting. Couldthis be a sign of maturity?

Bored? Want to waste 2 hours?

Yup, we were bored and decided Twilight would be a little fun. No idea why. I guess we were hoping to see a few chicks. I tried to pay attention to the story. But all it is is dialogue from one pretty boy after another. Even the fights (all 5 minutes?) were focused on *who gets the girl*. My mind is wandering, I can't pick a single track to follow on how boring this was. Any woman I meat who says thy loved Twilight can expect to never hear from me again. I want a woman who isn't going to fawn over a *pretty face*.Oh, and she is making the choice between Bestiality and Necrophilia... gross.

The best movie out of all three Twilight movies

I know there is a broad range of people that watched Eclipse already, but having read the books and having watched the two previous movies, Ibelieve this is the best out of all of them. A movie is never going tobe as good as reading the original book, so if that is what you'relooking for, than don't watch the movie! David Slade did an excellentjob of making the movie more dramatic and less cheesy compared to theprevious two films that made me want to gag in certain scenes.I believe his technique of meeting with each actor individually beforescenes to discuss lines and what he was looking for in each scenereally helped each main character and improved their overallperformance in Eclipse. We all have to remember that these are youngactors and most of them have found fame through the Twilight movies, but this movie has really shown a lot of growth both in their actingabilities and how they've added more depth to their characters. Actorsare only as great as the directors that direct them and I think DavidSlade has worked wonders with this cast and has shown us that a teenagelove story can be turned into a movie where the characters will bepraised and loved for not just their looks but for their talents tocapture an audience and to walk away wanting more. This movie played more on the serious side of young vampires, werewolves and The Cullens than the cheesy love story and over dramaticlines in the previous movies. Moviegoers get more insight into Jasperand Rosalie, even though I have to admit that Jasper was a littlecheesy in this film, but his hair looked a lot more natural than thesecond film. There is so much going on in this book, but David Sladedirected this movie in such a way that we are able to see the differentaspects of what this book has to offer.. Vengeance and deceit throughthe eyes of Victoria and her young vampire army, a love trianglebetween Bella, Edward and Jacob, and the more human side of thevampires and werewolves through scenes that touch on the past. Allthese theatrical elements bring the book to life and allow viewers torelive this most important book in the series on the big screen.I enjoyed this movie from start to finish and I believe if you go intothe movie theater and not expect that it should be just like the book, you will be pleasantly surprised that the screenwriter and the directorhave produced a very well made film that takes the most important partsof one of the most compelling books in the series and creates a filmthat is both dramatic with a little humor. You will walk out of thetheater knowing that this third film has done the franchise justice andwill get you pumped up for Breaking Dawn!

Psychological drama

Twilight: Eclipse is a movie about monsters. It's also a movie aboutsex. It's also a psychological drama. It's a psychological drama aboutsex and monsters.Psychological dramas are very cerebral. Characters are constantlypsycho-analyzing every little thing that goes on around them. This tends to make things very boring. Scenes such as a werewolftransforming in mid-air, or Bella and Edward lying in bed together, oreven war between vampire clans, are almost unbearable as the charactersconstantly psychoanalyze everything in site. Not even Madonna walkingonto the set and dropping a load could make this movie interesting. Why would anyone want to make a movie like this? I guess some teenagersthink that it's cool to be blase about everything.

2012-05-07 13:18:23

Worse in the Saga

I thought New Moon was bad but this is 1000x worse! I watched Eclipsethe day I finished reading the book and I just have to say I wasabsolutely shocked at how bad it was. I was so disappointed, but thismovie is terrible! Basically, all it is, is a bunch of scenes throwntogether with no meaning! The scene when Bella says "I'm Switzerland" Iwas just like "What?!" If you had not read the book you probably wouldnot have had any idea what she meant. It was crazy. Others may disagreebut I was really annoyed when they were on the mountain especially whenJacob kissed Bella. It looked extremely fake. Please don't watch thismovie unless you are super bored and want to entertain yourself bymaking fun of this crap! So bad.

2012-05-06 23:37:18

the worst of all

Okay, the books were terrible and the other two movies were so poorly written I can't believe I actually sat through another one - but I did. If it's at all possible, this one is even worse than the other two. The only reason I gave it any stars at all is because the were-kid is pretty hot.
