The three best of the disbanded Musketeers - Athos, Porthos, and Aramis - join a young hotheaded would-be-Musketeer, DArtagnan, to stop the Cardinal Richelieus evil plot to form an alliance with enemy England by way of the mysterious Milady. Rochefort, the Cardinals right-hand man, announces the official disbanding of the Kings Musketeers. Three, however, refuse to throw down their swords - Athos the fighter and drinker, Porthos the pirate and lover, and Aramis the priest and poet. Arriving in Paris to join the Musketeers, DArtagnan uncovers the Cardinals plans, and the four set out on a mission to protect King and Country.

Eh, what more can one say about a film like The Three Musketeers. It wasinno way as good as the classic, but it's good for kids, and can at leastintroduce them to the story (vaguely). 2.5/5 stars-JOHN
By far the best Mustketeer movie I've seen, and I've seen them all. None of the others compare. Loved the action, comedy and adventure. Have watched it over and over again. Great family move. A must see for everyone.
I read the book (The Three Musketeers) and I loved it! This is just about as good! This is a really great movie!
This is one of those movies that is just a joy to watch. It's really akid's movie but I found it to be funny and exciting. I have read a lotof criticism of the fact that it is not a precise recreation of the book.I would respond to that with a resounding DUUUUUH! This is aDisney movie folks. Do we get upset that in the movie "SnowWhite and the Seven Dwarves" the wicked witch doesn't stab SnowWhite in the head with a poison comb? Nope. Disney took aconcept and tried to make a fun adventure movie out of it. Theysucceeded.I love the characters, especially Porthos. Oliver Platt pulls off therole like a champion. He's pompous and brazen. My favorite linecomes in the great carriage chase. Porthos pops up from theCardinal's carriage with a bottle of champagne. "Champagne?"He offers. "Porthos, we're in the middle of a chase," points out aslightly annoyed Athos (Kiefer Sutherland). "You'reright...Something red." That kills me.So if you're looking for a family-safe, exciting adventure movie withswordplay and great cinematography check it out. If you're lookingfor a critically acclaimed recreation of a classic novel, GET THEHECK OUT OF THE DISNEY SECTION!
This film is a dog. Ok, Tim Curry was entertaining, but don't waste your time. Try Lester's 1974 film of the same name. You wont regret it.
This review is from: The Three Musketeers (DVD) We just love this movie. Everytime it came on TV we would make sure that we would watch it. For a treat I ordered it and we watch it when nothing else is on. It is one of those movies that you could watch over and over again.
i used to think this was the best movie in the world..........but I have found ones that go along with the book better, while this, though funny, has almost no connection with the book beyond characters.
I saw this movie when I was just eight years old and it has left me amark. It was inspirational. Alexandre Dumas' classic story of bravemusketeers is an outstanding story of courage, friendship and love.Although the plot might seem to be completely flat it is yet veryenjoyable. Stephen Herek's adventure movie has a solid cast: KieferSutherland as Athos (who is now known as the agent Jack Bauer inTV-series "24"), Charlie Sheen as Aramis, Oliver Platt as Porthos,Chris O'Donnell as D'Artagnan, delightfully slithery Tim Curry asCardinal Richelieu, brilliantly nasty Michael Wincott as captainRochefort and many more. All Dumas' great characters has found fittingactors for portrayal."Three Musketeers" has been filmed several times and it has been fittedto an animation features but no other adaptation has made my heart sokeen to the subject like Herek's 1993 version. Now fourteen years laterafter watching musketeers hundreds of times it still remains one of myfavorite stories, and I cannot valuate its givens by rating the film.Even in nowadays I remember every line by heart. "Three Musketeers" istimeless piece of fiction and foundation of a great childhood. Irecommend it to everyone in a family from seven years up. "ThreeMusketeers" represents what was then great adventure movie like"Pirates of the Caribbean" is now.The theme song "All For Love" performed by Bryan Adams, Sting and RodStewart remains one of the most influential songs in my records. BryanAdams had had a collaboration earlier with now late composer MichaelKamen in "Robin Hood: The Prince of Thieves" with records braking song"(Everything I Do) I Do It For You") and Adams was asked to do a songfor also "Three Musketeers". It may not have been as big hit asEverything I Do... but it sure is as beautiful.Raise your swords and step in to the boots of the brave bodyguard's ofthe king of France! All for one and one for all!
I absolutly love this movie. It was my favorite film for almost 2 years, which is my personal record. This movie has everything; action, romance, swordplay, gunfights, exciting heros', and a facinating villain. The actorsare top-of-the-line, the swordplay is realistic and convincing, the settingsare wonderful, and the script is hilarious. The only thing I think theycould have done better is the part of D'Artanian. I mean, they gave thatgreat character to Chris O'Donnell!!!! WHAT WERE THEY THINKING???? That partdeserved a MUCH better actor. Chris ruins everything he plays, this being noexception. All in all, I give it 8* out of 10*.
it's the best! a nice famly move
This review is from: The Three Musketeers (DVD) Frolicking Classic; the classic story told in few words and comical scenes.I love Oliver Platt who plays one of the Musketeers. All for one! and One for all! Enjoy!
This is an excellent movie. Pretty humorous and stylo. The guys are cooland the way they talk juz rock !! Yea, the way they say: "One for all, allfor one" really rules man !!It's not easy to make a such a great movie, which have been filmed so manytimes in the past. :)
I don't get this people that complain about OH it doesn't follow thebook well who cares?? lord of the ring movies and book are similar butnot to the full people don't complain there, anyhow just wanna say thisis one of the best movies i ever seen. it has everything... action, romance, adventure and dame good actorsthats all from me see this movie TyOK they ask me to write ten lines and i can't so i will just say well idon't know but again great performance, and a great Disney movieand to correct myself lord of the rings movie also in the ten bestmovies ever
I remember watching this movie when I was 8 years old, and I stillremember every detail of it. I've seen it for like 8 more times and Ifinally have the DVD. All I can say is that the all for love song, theactors, and the whole story is great...plus, the sarcastic comments ofeach musketeer are hilarious. I need to add that watching ChrisO'Donnel and Kiefer Sutherland together is priceless, also the OliverPlatt and Charlie Sheen performances are great. And how could you nothate Tim Curry as Cardenal Richeliu, his role as an evil Cardenal it'ssuited perfectly. The only thing i can't understand is why Disney didit, it contains strong scenes which are not suitable for children. Istrongly recommend it.
How many times does one have to endure the phrase "All for one and onefor all" in this piece of mindless Disney drivel? A lot, it seems. fartoo often for my taste as the phrse becomes a sound bite rather than adeclaration of loyalty. Performances worth checking out are by MichaelWincott, and by Tim Currey, who chews screen time with a desperationthat doesn't seem necessary given Curry's genuine acting talent.Otherwise this is a total waste of time. In both cases I couldn't helpremembering that Tim Currey and Michael Wincott were not CharletonHeston and Christopher Lee. Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, and ChrisO'Donnel are never convincing as 18th-Century Frenchmen and come acrossonly as 20th-Century actors from the New World. Oliver Platt is amusingbut in the end is also unable to make the audience suspend disbelief. The script is insipid and juvenile at best and is an insult to stupidpeople. I came out of the movie feeling cheated and talked down to.This movie lacks the grandeur and the wonder that a good period pieceadventure must have. For a better handling of this material, check out the Richard Lesterfilms "The Three Musketeers" and "The Four Musketeers" both of whichstar Michael York and are much closer to the original Dumas. This version is awful; don't waste your time.
This review is from: The Three Musketeers (DVD) I have been an Amazon customer for at least 10 years and am very happy with the service that I've gotten from them, they are an upstanding, trustworthy company.
The evil Cardinal plots to murder the young King, attempts to seduce the queen in her chambers, and plots with the English. The Three Musketeers rebel and refuse to surrender and uncover the Cardinal's plans. Perfect heros, damsils in distress, "Save the King" sword play. Great movie.
Even after all these years, after high school, college, working at Blockbuster for 5 years watching every movie ever, this is still my favorite movie hands down. I know it tends to be silly at times, I know it has little true cinematic value, but who cares! It has swords, great acting, larfs, and fun out the wazoo. "Come D'artagnan! We're saving the king!"
Alexandre Dumas was noted for his long (frequently 800+ pages) andsophisticatedly plotted historical novels, the most famous of whichinclude The Man In The Iron Mask, The Count Of Monte Cristo and TheThree Musketeers. This version of Three Musketeers does away with themany subplots and intricacies of Dumas's original story, and is a verysimple-minded retelling which favours pace and humour over anythingmeatier. Only the skeletal outline of the plot remains intact  it'sjust an example of Disney using this particular classic tale to churnout a family swashbuckler. Perfectly easy viewing, yes, but alsouninspired and disposable.D'Artagnan (Chris O'Donnell) is on his way to Paris to become amusketeer as was his now-dead father before him. However, his timingcouldn't be worse, for as he arrives in Paris he learns that themusketeers have just been disbanded by the scheming Cardinal Richlieu(Tim Curry). Only a handful of musketeers remain loyal to their uniform most notably the daring trio of Athos (Kiefer Sutherland), Porthos(Oliver Platt) and Aramis (Charlie Sheen). Via a series ofcoincidences, D'Artagnan falls in with these three adventurers andfinds himself fighting to restore the musketeers and overthrow theCardinal before he seizes control of France. Their main quest is totrack down a cunning spy, Milady De Winter (Rebecca De Mornay), andforce her into revealing how the Cardinal intends to put his plans intoeffect. They must also save the King (Hugh O'Conor) from an audaciousassassination attempt.Considering how slight and unambitious the film is, the makers havemanaged to get together a truly star-studded cast. On the whole, though, each actor is wasted in a largely underwritten and forgettablerole. Sheen in particular seems to exist pointlessly on the peripheryof the action and has virtually nothing to do. Likewise, O'Donnell andSutherland have too little to work with to make their charactersgenuinely identifiable. Platt has it slightly better as the boozy andhigh-spirited Porthos, while Curry easily walks away with the movie bydoing his best impression of a pantomime villain as the sinisterCardinal. The film's many action sequences are well choreographed andspectacular, but lack true spirit. Much of the photography  withCornwall and Austria standing in for 17th century France  is pleasingto the eye and lends the film a polished look. It's not hard to sitthrough The Three Musketeers  it moves quickly and smoothly from oneentertaining sequence to the next. But it IS hard to view it asanything more than a simple time-filler, and a dumbed-down version of astory that should really contain so much more depth
In 1993, Walt Disney had produced another hit movie entitled, THE THREE MUSKETEERS. This is film that is definitely for all ages and up, and it is extremely enjoyable. RICHELIEU (played by Tim Curry) is the Carnial of France. He is in cohoots with ROCHEFORT (played by Michael Wincott), and they plan to kill the King of France. Their first mission was to fire the King's musketeers. All the musketeers have turned in their capes, all but three: ATHOS (played by Kiefer Sutherland), ARAMIS (played by Charlie Sheen), & PORTHOS (played by Oliver Platt). Seems as though they do not want to give up on their royal leader. Arriving in France is the young and courageous, D'ARTAGNAN (played by Chris O'Donnell). He has arrived to join the musketeers, since his late father was a musketeer until he was murdered. As he enters, he meets the beautiful CONSTANCE (played by Julie Delpy), as well as meeting Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. Each of them challenge him to a fight. His fight with Athos isn't until 12:00 pm. His fight with Porthos isn't until 1:00 pm. His fight with Aramis isn't until 2:00 pm. D'Artagnan shows up to his fight with Athos, to which Porthos and Aramis show up as well, where they reveal their true identity to the young D'Artagnan: They are musketeers. Some of the Cardinal's men come along, forcing the musketeers and D'Artagnan into battle. Realizng who D'Artagnan's father was, Athos, Porthos, and Aramis decide to let D'Artagnan help them out in this little battle, but soon after, they ditch him, where he is captured and brought into the hands of Cardinal Richelieu. He overhears a conversation between Richelieu and the beautiful LADY DE WINTER (played by Rebecca de Mornay), where they plan to not only kill the King of France, but to kill the Queen as well, where Richelieu and Lady will be King & Queen. Richelieu forces D'Artagnan to reveal the whereabouts of Athos, Porthos, and Aramis, but he refuses since he has know clue, to which he adds, "...And even if I did, I wouldn't tell you..." Richelieu orders that D'Artagnan be decapitated. The two beheaders are actually...Aramis and Porthos. They are here to rescue their young recruiter. That night, D'Artagnan wanders off alone, after being wounded. Seems as though his wound is only superficial. He is rescued by Lady De Winter, only so she can kill him. But he stops her, to which she and some guards take him off on a boat, where Athos, Porthos, and Aramis are awaiting to rescue him once more, which leads Lady De Winter into killing herself. The morning has arrived where the King and Rochefort plan to go through with their plan, but Athos, Porthos, and Aramis have recruited the rest of the musketeers, with the help of D'Artagnan to protect their royal leader. Rochefort was killed by D'Artagnan, with the help of Constance, since Rocherfort had killed D'Artagnan's father. The Cardinal was placed under rest for treason and attemped murder. For saving his life, the King asks what it is that D'Artagnan wants in return. His request: to become a musketeer. And a musketeer D'Artagnan becomes. I have really enjoyed this film. Charlie Sheen, Kiefer Sutherland, and Oliver Platt were picture perfect choices for Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. Chris O'Donnell, in my opinion was a bad choice for D'Artagnan. The other three were rugged looking, with long hair and goatee's, while Chris O'Donnell has a young baby face. Tim Curry and Michael Wincott make me wanna grab a bottle of Pepto, because their acting makes me sick and I dislike them both. But this movie was thoroughly enjoyable and I strongly recommend to everybody.
