Bad

It's hard for me to believe that people actually spent millions of dollars to make this movie. It simply wasn't at all interesting.

Saw the movie - liked it!!

I was recently one of those you could categorise as a captured audience onaflight showing The Third Wheel...and I have got to say I really enjoyedit.I admit I was surprised because I saw Damon and Affleck as exec producers, and I did not like 'Good Will Hunting', although I loved Dogma, which theyboth acted in. Anyway I digress, Luke Wilson and Jay Lacopo were excellent(but then I am a fan of that humour which has a slow droll and subtlecatchto it) - they played their roles as slightly stupid, but then in the endofcourse, their not. Denise Richards was great in her role, giving it that"I'm sexy, but a real person' tone, particularly that laugh!!It won't win any Oscars, but if you want a light-hearted, easy going moviethat makes you chuckle (which during a flight can be slightlyembarrassing),go for it!!Dee

What's With The All Star Cast???

Not brilliant but entertaining enough. I don't see how they managed toget as bigger stars such as Denise Richards, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon,Luke Wilson and Jay Lacopo to star in this obviously not going to be amassive hit movie. The storyline was basically pretty weak and I wasshocked especially at Ben Affleck who seemed to have such highstandards in his films. Same thing with Matt Damon. I didn't understandwhy Matt Damon was given that crap role that he could obviously not doanything with. Even though it was obvious he took the role just to do amovie with his mate Ben I can't see why he didn't ask for another role, something that he could make himself look good with. Ben Affleck wasaverage which surprised me. While the role wasn't perfect for DeniseRichards she was perfect for the role. She was the perfect beautifulsexy woman. Luke Wilson was good but not great and the standout waswithout a doubt Jay Lacopo, who really was excellent. Had the moviebeen a bigger hit I feel it was the type of role that can land an Oscarif we just forget about the dance scene at the end which made no sensewhatsoever and partly ruined his great performance. I also thought forsuch an unknown the director (Jordan Brady) did reasonably wellalthough I'm sure with such an all star cast he had a lot of help fromall the experience that was with him.

Vintage Ben/Matt/Denise/Luke!!!

I've only caught a sneak preview, but it's always fun to look back on Ben & Matt from the "old days," not to mention Denise Richards in pre-James Bond times. The movie seems to be a witty, cute love story and I look forward to seeing the full version when it appears in stores.

Weak Romantic Comedy Starring Luke Wilson & Denise Richards

First let me tell you one thing. Though the film is co-executive produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, and features these two people, "The Third Wheel" is virtually Luke Wilson/Denise Richards romantic comedy. Ben's role is a supporting one while Matt's is little more than a cameo (you have to wait an hour to see the latter in the film).I said "romantic comedy," but it's not that hilarious film that makes you laugh like "Four Weddings and a Funeral." The story is about Luke Wilson's character, office working Stanley, who falls in love with Denise Richards' Diana, a new worker in his company. He wants to date her, but cannot have enough courage to ask, so many days (like one year) have to pass before he finally decides to do it. And surprisingly, she says OK.So Stan is going to take her out to dinner, but while he was driving a car, he hits a homeless man Phil (Jay Rapoco, also the writer of the film). Phil seems injured, and cannot be left alone, so Stan and Diana take him to the hospital, but somehow Phil is coming back to them, as if he does not want to leave the two. And in the meanwhile Stan's co-workers including Michael (Ben Affleck) are monitoring Stan and Diana, betting on how far Stan can get the attention of beautiful Diana. If you have not seen "The Third Wheel" at your local theater (in spite of the pretty strong cast), that is no wonder. The film thinks it is unique and funny, but actually it is neither. The problem is, Phil, who is the "third wheel" of the film title, is really annoying and irritating. Of course, he should play the part of glue, or cupid, between the couple Stan and Diana, but his presence only damage the feel-good sense that this kind of film has to have. Moreover, what he does is too tame; what he says is not original; but we are supposed to be amused with him, which I found too impossible. One saving grace is Denise Richards. Whether or not she can really act, I do not care since the day I saw the 007 film in which she is dressed as nuclear scientist. But in "The Third Wheel" Denise Richards exudes her charm and beauty so naturally that you understand why Stanley fell in love with her at first sight. Her fans would want to see the way she smiles, or the way she talks here, more on the screen. But she is wasted in this little-seen film, and so is Luke Wilson and Ben Affleck. Maybe I am too harsh, but "The Third Wheel" lacks power, or punch, that makes us care. You will not dislike it, but not remember it long either.

Cute Movie

The clumsy and shy Stanley (Luke Wilson) is a nice fellow, beloved byhis colleagues in the office. The screenplay has many flaws, butthe charming lead couple and the situation of Stanley, with the wholeoffice cheering for him and a stranger simply ruining his dreamed nightis very sweet and funny. The story practically has no plot point, thefilm is far from being a masterpiece, but I liked. My vote is seven.Title (Brazil): "Triângulo Amoroso" ("Love Triangle")

A lost treasure. Don't miss this one!

This was on The Movie Channel tonight. I'd never heard of it, butwatched it because the cast looked interesting. What a pleasantsurprise. The setup has been done a million times. Shy guy gets up the nerve(after months and months) to ask Beautiful Girl out. Amazingly, sheaccepts.People in the office are so amazed at this that they literally makebets and have a party where they keep track of the couple's evening.Their date takes an odd turn when they encounter a very strangehomeless man who attaches himself to them and the plot gets strangerand stranger and funnier and funnier. It has echoes of two of my favorite movies, Blake Edwards's BLIND DATEand Martin Scorcese's AFTER HOURS, but it's totally original.I guess this was one of those movies that just literally got lost inthe shuffle in the turbulent decline of Miramax Films. That's a shame.Did it ever show in theatres? I've never seen it.The whole cast is great. Even Ben Affleck, here very comfortable in acharacter part. Maybe he'll have a future as a great character actorand stop making bad movies where he's leading man. There's a good cameoby Matt Damon at the end of the second act that's especially good.Having read the comments, I know not everyone enjoyed this as much as Idid. That's why the multiplex has a dozen auditoriums with differentfilm playing. That's my story and I'm sticking to it :-)

sticky bum

I admit this movie is not worth more than 3 US dollars per person toview, however, a previous comment by another IMDb user mentions twoscenes being stupid. The first criticized scene involved a coin being thrown from a verytall building and accidentally breaking a parked car's windshield. TheIMDb user said that this was "some coin". The scene is a classic"exaggeration humor" scene that plays on the ideas of altruism gonewrong (the context within which the coin it tossed) and on the idea ofa small object accelerating during free-fall due to gravity(9.8meters/sec sq). The movie did over-exaggerate the speed of the coinfor it to be able to have enough momentum (mass x velocity) to break astationary windshield. An quarter could come close to the mass of asmall caliber bullet...very small yes...and with enough speed, a bulletof such caliber could shatter a windshield...especially a windshieldthat is not new or has defects in it's structure which may or may notbe obvious. So, ignoring "terminal velocity" of the quarter by ignoringair resistance that would vary throughout free fall along with thepotential flipping of the said quarter, if tossed from a high enoughbuilding, the windshield could definitely have shattered as it did.Ignoring these facts, this was simply a silly joke, an excerpt of oneexample of one form of "silly humor". It's possible that the IMDb usewho made the previous comment is from a different culture wheresilliness is dumb. Cameos rock too.

the chick-flick backlash

An inaccessible drop dead gorgeous high-powered banker gal gives the dorky office guy a try, then turns out to be sweet and easy, and he doesn't have to lift a finger, even when her gruff ex confronts them can only mean one thing to me: A screenwriter's subscription to Maxim ran out and he had some free time.

Heard from a friend.

A friend of mine saw this movie and said he laughed hysterically in a bunch of places. I just saw it this week and I agree. It's not perfect, mostly I think because the direction is heavy-handed and really smart comedy moments are handled like it's a Police Academy movie or something. But the actors are really good and there are some funny scenes. Good cast, good writing, poor to mediocre direction, but I have to say, overall, I really enjoyed it.

Date interrupted by a man with a glass menagerie

Jordan Brady tries hard to make this comedy work. This screen play waswritten by Jay Locopo, who also appears in it. The film shows adirector that wants to please his audience. Mr. Brady has assembled ayoung group of performers in "The Third Wheel", which was backed by BenAffleck and Matt Damon, who also are seen in the movie. The nerdy Stanley finally is able to get Diana to go out with him andthis serves to create the kind of curiosity his office friends arebetting on. Would he succeed in making Diana see him for what he isreally like, or would she be turned off by the way Stanley acts? Thedate turns out to be something that Stanley didn't bargain for.As Stanley and Diana are on the way to the theater, they encounterturbulence along the way when a homeless man, Phil walks in front ofthe car and is hit. Phil will stay with the couple throughout the restof the movie. At times, this homeless man can be annoying beyond words!Take the scene when Diana and Stanley finally get to the theater forthe second act of the boring play in the park. Who happens to come outon stage? Well, you guessed it: Phil! This man delivers a monologue soinane, but everyone in the place goes nuts about him. One wonders aboutthose L.A. audiences... Hmm!Denise Richards gives a low key performance as Diana. Luke Wilson isStanley. Jay Locopo is seen as Phil. Ben Affleck and Matt Damon alsoshow up in small roles. The best thing is the last minutes when the credits are rolling. Stayfor that, or better yet, fast forward to that and then go back to thebeginning!

Almost worth a two-dollar rental.

Ok, this movie wasn't bad I guess. I'd call it your basic time-killer. There's really not much of a story. I thought Luke Wilson and Denise Richards did a decent job, both playing their usual parts, but the "third wheel" guy was truly annoying. Ben Affleck had a small part too. Overall it was another movie I sat through waiting for Denise Richards to shed clothing, and I ended up with a one-second panty shot. So, only for fans of either star, or so-so romantic comedies.

Jack Gattanella 2012-04-24 05:14:18

Funny at times, and also annoying at times

The Third Wheel is a harmless romedy (romantic comedy) about a guy (LukeWilson) who has really liked this girl (Denise Richards) for a while atwork, and when she finally is available, he gets his date. Unfortunately, amonkey wrench is thrown into the works as a unintentional hittee (JayLocopo, who also scripted) becomes the guy's watcher on the date. Funny, light stuff at times, even if the Locopo character gets a littleover-the-top at times. The ending might be a downer, depending in thewatchee. Executive produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who take small(yet memorable) roles on this one. B-

irontulips 2012-04-23 16:19:58

Could've been better, I'll tell you why

Warning: Concept Summary (Nothing you won't know after watching thetrailer)A homeless man tags along on the first date and tries to help LukeWilson's character make the date go well. It's a typicalromantic-comedy with a twist set-up. And it could've been a heck of alot better.Warning: Slight Spoilers1.You don't really like the characters. They are not only not likable, they're not even consistent. The mainmale character is introduced as a generous, sensitive guy. Then hetransforms into a bastard on the first date. The female lead isintroduced as a no non-sense working woman who isn't afraid to speakwhat's on her mind. Then she suffers quietly on the date. And boththeir intelligences seem to jump from stupid-as-rocks to being able tomake great leaps of logic beyond what is humanly possible.2. The script isn't well written. In a good script, there is nothing that doesn't serve a purpose. If itdoesn't move the story forward or build character, it is cut. In one ofthe opening scenes, the main character gives a donut to a sleepinghomeless man. His chubby co-worker sneaks back and steals the donut. Wenever see his co-worker again. Or the homeless man. Or the donuts. Whyis this scene in the movie? It's just a cheap gag that goes nowhere. It's almost as if the script is distracted by cheap gags.3. Direction and EditingEditing could've been tighter and the character inconsistency is thefault of the Director. Even with the script being what it was, adifferent Director could've made it something something solid, and agood Editor could've made it much a much stronger film.I give it a 4/10. Pity, it could've made 7/10.

Feel good movie

While the movie wasn't very good in the classical sense, I had a smile on my face nearly the entire time I was watching it. There was something about the movie that just makes you like the characters and want them to be happy.

apple_blossum24 2012-04-22 16:01:25

Very refreshing!

This movie is truly a hidden gem--watch it and you'll experience adelightful surprise. Anyone who can appreciate the feel-good, enjoyablenature of film will find this to be very refreshing. It deserves to betaken off "the shelves". I'm sad it wasn't released in every theaterlike these lack-luster blockbusters that get shoved down our throats. It's charming and witty and fun. It's not ostentatious or over the top, just simple and honest, with a clean plot line and great acting. And ifyou get hung up on details like "that coin would never break thatwindow for real", then you'll miss it. And it's sad to be so jaded.Matt Damon's cameo was hilarious! And there many other noticeable starsthat contribute their talents. Luke Wilson and Ben Affleck have greaton screen chemistry and you can tell by watching that they all musthave had great fun making this picture. There are also a number ofrecognizable locations around Los Angeles depicting the softer side ofLA we don't often get to see in films these days.Rent it for a nice girls night in or a friendly get together. PS. Thescene at the end with Ben Affleck and Melissa McCarthy (Sookie fromGilmore Girls) is so funny and definitely worth the $3.00to rent thismovie.

Third Wheel very boring and annoying!!!

This movie bored me to tears and I was so happy I borrowed this from the Public Library. At least I could not be upset about spending money to view the DVD. The movie is about a dorky office guy named Stanley who wants to date the gorgeous new office worker(Denise Richards) named Diana. Every time he decides to make his move, he loses his confidence. A year passes before he finally manages to ask her out for a date, a causal date. Surprise, Surprise she agrees, but she feels the date will be a dud. The office forms a pool as to how far the date will go. Stan takes her to dinner, but while he is driving the car he hits a homeless guy named Phil. They take him to the hospital, and after that they can't seem to lose this guy. From here chaos ensues, with Phil pretty much following them the whole date. That's when I start to lose interest. Phil's character was annoying!!! His character was supposed to be like cupid or he was to help make things better during the date, but his character was so annoying, so irritating that the film lost any romantic comedy momentum. Everything he did was not funny and it's a miracle I even finished watching the film. My hand was itching to grab the remote to forward past Phil's annoying scenes. Ben Affleck has a supporting role in the film as Michael, and Matt Damon make a cameo about an 1 hour into the film that really was not needed in my opinion. If you want to be bored to sleep, then rent this movie. If you are looking for a good romantic comedy, do not watch this movie!!!

Garbage

This is possibly the worst movie that I have ever seen. Believe me, if it was any longer that 83 minutes I would have turned it off. If you feel the need the rent this do yourself a favor and save the five dollars and stare at the blank tv screen instead. It couldn't possibly be any less entertaining.
