An unmarried 40-year-old woman turns to a turkey baster in order to become pregnant. Seven years later, she reunites with her best friend, who has been living with a secret he replaced her preferred sperm sample with his own.
There are some amusing moments in this comedy and some laugh out loudmoments but not too many. The basic premise is quite cute. JenniferAniston plays a lady trying to get pregnant when her best friend (JasonBateman) drunkenly switches his sperm for the donor played by PatrickWilson. Comedy ensues when he sees the boy years later and notices theresemblances. Jennifer Aniston is alright and looks a little morebedraggled for the role. Jason Bateman is suited to his role as thepessimistic hyppchondriac. The actor who plays the little boy is verygood he has some difficult dialog and his expressions are good.Juliette Lewis plays a girl friend of Jennifer and is a bit olderlooking now. Jeff Goldblum plays a friend of Jason Bateman. It's a pleasant watch but not a must see.
This movie was very slow going with a predictable plot line. Aniston portrays a career womanwho suddenly realizes that her biological clock is ticking and makes a decision to have a baby.Although she has a very close male friend (Bateman), she picks a sperm donor (Patrick Wilson) from Craigs List ads. Why would Bateman not offer his sperm in the first place is beyond me? But,later on he switches his sperm with the actual donor's sperm while drunk. That is another contrivedsituation. How can anybody not remember something like that? If there is one funny thingyou take out with this movie, it should be Diana Sawyer! Really! :)If you like heart warming movies that deal with relationships, this could be a 3 star or a 4 starmovie. Acting, casting, directing, it is all good.If you like action/suspense/special effects stay away from this movie. I hope this review was helpfulto you..
If you had everything you wanted, but telling the truth means you wouldlose it all what would you do? After a drunken accident causes Cassie's(Aniston) pregnancy to change, Wally (Bateman) must live with theresults. A loner all his life, Wally realizes too late what he wants. This is an exception to the rule of chick flicks. The movie is prettypredictable but very entertaining and enjoyable to watch for guys (atleast for me it was). Jason Bateman, though obviously very funny inthis, shows a powerful dramatic side that I look forward to seeing moreof. Jennifer Aniston is again...Jennifer Aniston. The effectiveness ofthe movie hangs on the performance of the boy who plays Sebastian. Thekid who played him did a fantastic job and made the movie much betterthen it would have been had the kid been unlikable. This is a greatcomedy/drama that is not as much of a chick flick as I expected. Iliked it. I give it an A-.Would I watch again? - Yes I would, and my girlfriend would appreciateit...ha ha ha
THE SWITCH is a fun and surprisingly touching movie. The plot is one that could have gone in the direction of a wacky comedy or a dramatically serious love story. THE SWITCH pulled off a wonderful combination of the two. Kassie Larson, played by Jennifer Aniston, decides he wants to be a mother. The only problem is she's not in a relationship. But that doesn't deter her. Who needs a man ...well a husband that is? So she decides to use a sperm donor. Wally Mars, played by Jason Bateman, is not happy with his best friend's decision to mother a child from a man she doesn't know. In denial of his feeling for Kassie, he doesn't interfere with her plans to get pregnant ... well, not intentionally. At Kaissie's "getting pregnant party," Wally has a little too much to drink, resulting in "the switch". It's not until seven years later that the discovery is made. Wally has a choice to make. Reveal his secret or let the woman he loves marry the wrong guy.
The movie studios have to stop showing so much of the movie on TV ads and previews. They leave no surprise when one goes to the movie. They need to stop giving so much away of the plot as when watching this movie I felt I knew it already so no surprises. The trailers are toooooo loooooong exposing 75% of the plot.I did enjoy it though.........was in the mood for lighthearted romantic comedy. The little boy was adorable!!!!
The first part of the movie really dragged for me. Mainly because Jennifer Aniston's character seemed really dreary to me. The whole "schtick" of the movie with the sperm exchange wasn't funny to me, but I really liked the result. The Jason Bateman character's relationship with his son really moved me. It's too bad it took so long to get there. That part of the movie would be a good family film but, unfortunately, the whole section with the sperm thing means I can't share it with my eleven year old until she gets older.
This review is from: The Switch (Amazon Instant Video) The Switch is much better than most people give it credit for. I give this movie a 5 star. Yes there are movies that are similar to it, but this one is a little better than most. It is a cute, sweet, and funny movie. I will watch it again.
Before watching this movie I was expecting a slightly funny andromantic attempt to a romantic comedy. This movie does overall containboth funny and some romantic moments, but at a very standard and nonappealing form. What this movie really is about, is not the dilemmabetween a women and the two guys, but it is the relationship betweenadult and kid. For me, this movie explored the relationship betweenWally and Sebastian. Because of it's incorrect labeling of "RomanticComedy" I think is why it has received so various and negativecritique. This movie has faults as well of course. The script is poorlywritten and the storyline is unclear and "jumpy". This movie was notmade to transfer a important global message, I hope, which is why it isan enjoyable film. Watch it, try to laugh but most of all, feel good.
Absolutely brilliant. Jason Bateman's comic timing is outstanding andJeff Goldblum is hilarious too. The little lad who plays Sebastian is areally good actor and I really took to him. Laugh out loud funny. Willdefinitely buy this when it comes out on DVD. I haven't enjoyed a filmas much in a long time. Oh, expect "She Out of My League". JenniferAniston really did well in this film. I like her anyway but she seemsto play the same part in every film so it was nice to see her playingsomething a little different for a change. Jason Bateman broke my heartat one stage when he cried. Some brilliant one liners in there and Iliked the relationship between Jason Bateman and Juliette Lewis aswell. Go see it!
This review is from: The Switch (DVD) I don't know where I was when this movie came out because I totallymissed it, which made for a perfect rainy night!I hate to put "adorable" in the subject line because it will probably keep men away. However it was; charming, intelligently humorous, and just very appealing! Sadly, these are very few and far between. Enjoy!
Despite premise, a charming collection of characters and a new child star. Bateman is great as a lovable hangdog w/ Aniston as the object of his affection who has never looked lovelier. Great supporting work from Jeff Goldblum and Juliet Lewis. If you like rom-com, a winner. ;-)
Who doesn't love Jennifer? She was lovely in Friends, warm, funny, the girl-next-door, etc, but what's up with her movie choices? I watched her one of her first big screen movies, The Good Girl, and she was an amazing actress. Sadly now she's just playing it safe with formulaic comedies that she seems to sleep-walk through. And The Switch is no exception. The plot goes like this; 40ish career woman, Kassie (Jennifer Aniston) gets tired of waiting for Mr. Right while her eggs are aging faster than raw fish left out on the counter. Being a can-do kind of gal, Kassie decides to have a baby the new-fashion way, and finds a strapping hunk of a handsome young man to donate his sperm to her project. Because the whole idea seems a little cold and unfeeling to Kassie, she has a party the night of the insemination, inviting all her friends over to party it up before she goes under the 'turkey baster' so to speak. The donor (Patrick Wilson) is blonde haired-blue-eyed and a very upbeat kind of fellow, as opposed to Kassie's best friend Willie(Jason Bateman) who's puts the 'S' in sad-sack, but who loves her dearly. So, Willie gets messed up with herbs and hard liquor and accidentally spills the donor's donation into the sink. Not knowing what else to do, Willie makes his own donation.Fast forward 7 years, and Kassie moves back to New York with her six year-old son who's a mini-me of Willie. Of course Willie figures it out, and then he wonders if he can possibly tell Kassie and risk losing her forever with his deceit. While the premise of the movie is fine, though sort of low humor, it's Jennifer's performance that bothers me. She's not all warm and fuzzy with the truly cute kid who plays her son, in fact her only emotion seems to be irritability, so much so that I kept wondering why Bateman was in love with her. Was it just that he's a sadist? I guess that works, though it was hard to watch. I keep watching Jennifer's movies, hoping that I'll see the fine actress in The Good Girl, but she's wearing me out. I don't know if I can sit through another inane comedy with Jennifer just phoning it in.
This was well-written and well-acted. I'm not sure why it has received such low ratings. But it's one the better romantic comedies I've seen this year. Definitely worth 2 hours of your life.
Bateman's character insists he's "neurotic" and anti-social, but he seems like Jason Bateman to me, nice enough but non-descript. I like him, but really: has Jason Bateman EVER acted? He's always just Jason Bateman saying things. As for Rachel, don't worry: the "Friends" reunion show can't be too far off. And, ladies and gentlemen: Jeff Goldblum!I guess what I'm trying to say is, why act at all when you're obviously boring yourself? Take a risk, Jason! Take a class, Jennifer! And Jeff...just take a hike.Pouring out an improbably-placed jar of semen that's just sitting on a shelf and replenishing it with your own while too drunk to remember doing it...well, gents, we all know how this would really go. "Shooting pool with rope" too subtle for ya?Flat, predictable, no characters, no writing, very little acting with way too much disbelief needing suspension. I'd say this is a "chick flick", but that would be mean to chicks.
It was interesting I liked the characters, even the kid was cute in a nerdy weird child kind of way. But the action was not as interesting. To say the least it was pretty broing.
This review is from: The Switch (2010) (Amazon Instant Video) The Switch is much better than most people give it credit for. I give this movie a 5 star. Yes there are movies that are similar to it, but this one is a little better than most. It is a cute, sweet, and funny movie. I will watch it again.
This review is from: The Switch (Amazon Instant Video) I really enjoyed this movie! I do not always like Jennifer in movies..but Jason...puts his whole heart and soul. The boy was wonderful and everyone...was perfect in casting. A real fun with serious tones...movie for a sunday night
If the Hollywood studios still made the type of urban comedies theymade back in the early 1970's starring George Segal (usually) as aneurotic nebbish, then Jason Bateman's big-screen career wouldcertainly be secure. As he displayed consistently on "ArrestedDevelopment", the actor's dry delivery and slyly observant manner are aperfect match for Wally Mars, the comically cynical equities analyst heplays in this sadly overlooked 2010 romantic comedy co-directed by WillSpeck and Josh Gordon (who much to my surprise, helmed the Will Ferrellfigure-skating comedy, "Blades of Glory"). Although he is the trueprotagonist of the story, the movie was marketed as a Jennifer Anistonvehicle. She plays rising TV producer Kassie Larson, his long-agogirlfriend who has relegated him to the "friend zone" even though heobviously hasn't gotten over her.Written with verve by Allen Loeb (who also co-wrote Aniston's recent2011 movie, the Adam Sandler starrer, "Just Go With It"), the storyrevolves around Kassie's ticking biological clock. In aseven-years-back flashback, she is seen deliberately bypassing Wally asa possible sperm donor in favor of a more predictable candidate,Roland, a struggling associate professor at Columbia, who happens to bemarried and drop-dead handsome. At an "insemination" party, Wally getswasted and drops the carelessly placed vial of Roland's semen down thebathroom sink. This leaves Wally no choice but to replace the samplehimself. Kassie eventually becomes pregnant and moves back home toMinnesota. Flash forward to the present, and Kassie returns toManhattan with her six-year-old son Sebastian in tow. The fact thatSebastian acts like a miniature version of Wally gets completely pastKassie but not Wally who slowly realizes that out of his stupor yearsago, his son was conceived.Although this indiscretion would seem like the perfect excuse for Wallyto reveal his true feelings for Kassie, complications ensue when shestarts a relationship with Roland, now desperately on the rebound froma bitter divorce. At the same time, Wally forms a close bond withSebastian who naturally gravitates toward him because of their mutualidiosyncrasies. Bateman handles Wally's evolution from self-absorbedfatalist to paternal protector with aplomb and surprising depth.Aniston is better served here than in most of her standard-issueromantic comedies, and the sharp interplay between these two actors, especially in the beginning scenes, is refreshingly rapid-fire like amodern-day "His Girl Friday". With his constantly forlorn expressioninterrupted by moments of genuine happiness, Thomas Robinson isterrifically understated as Sebastian, and his unforced scenes withBateman represent the true high points of the film.A crack supporting cast has been assembled. As Wally's best friend andmanager, the sarcastic ladies' man Leonard, Jeff Goldblum takes apredictable role and gives it his special, off-kilter twist. The resultis his funniest turn in years, for example, his use of the term"ill-advised" during the moment of revelation is hilariouslyunexpected. The same can also be said for Juliette Lewis, who playsKassie's constantly inappropriate best friend Debbie with her spaceydelivery intact as she slings clever putdowns at Wally. Even PatrickWilson, saddled with the no-win role of the golden boy Roland, who hasno capacity for honest introspection, is funny in a role that getsdiabolically transparent as the proceedings get complicated. The 2011DVD/Blu-Ray offers a standard set of extras - a fifteen-minutemaking-of featurette ("The Switch Conceived"); about ten deleted andalternate scenes running for nearly half an hour in total, one a morepurposeful variation on the central scene; and a brief blooper reel.Give it a try.
was it in the theater and again on dvd. simply put, this is a fun, funny movie which also has a lot of heart. highly recommend it!
This review is from: The Switch (2010) (Amazon Instant Video) I think this would be Jennifer's worst movie that she played in. This movie was not funny at all. It dragged and dragged. I want my 2 hours back and money back....lolDon't waste your money people...it's really not worth it.
