We have taken some photos of "The Phantom of the Opera". They represent actual movie quality.
I absolutely love this movie and I have it on DVD and gave DVDs of thismovie as presents to friends :) it was my first real introduction to'The Phantom of The Opera story and I first saw it on December 25 in2004 and I still love 'Phantom of The Opera' story and discovered manyother versions of it...I think that the acting in the movie was good, the singing was good (although Michael Crawford's version of 'Music ofThe Night' is my most favourite one, Gerard Butler did a good job too:his acting and singing was also good, especially 'Point of NoReturn'..oh and tomorrow is 13 November, which is his birthday, sohappy birthday to him)...the scenery and the special effects are alsoexcellent, in my opinion. Thanx to ALW and JS for creating thisbeautiful movie :) also, this movie actually made me want to see thestage show, so I hope to do so someday
this movie has been by far one of the best I've ever seen. it willleave u in awe. though the story is pretty much well known, and most doknow what the end is, it's one of those movies u have to keep watchingagain and again. the set was great and so are the effects. u really dofeel like u are in the opera house. many props go to the costumes aswell. Emmy Rossum was amazing, as are the rest of the spectacular cast.everyone's performances are stellar. the cast of the phantom of theopera is so talented and so entertaining. u will absolutely love it. ifu enjoyed the classic tale of this love story, i promise u will enjoythis rendition. i'd advise anyone to see this movie, and yes listen tothe advise the above person commented, do bring tissues. enjoy!
I, along with one of my best friends, had been waiting for this moviefor an incredibly long time. We were so anxious that we saw the firstshow on the first day. The sets and cinematography were absolutelyamazing. I have read the book and listened to the original soundtrackover and over again and can distinctly remember the wonderful tones ofMichael Crawford's voice. However, when Gerard Butler began to sing thepart of the phantom, I felt like he did no justice to the role. Icouldn't feel the emotion nor could I really enjoy the part of myfavorite character. Something was off, the timing maybe, but it wassomething I could just not get over. By the end, with the song "Pointof No Return," I thought his emotion and singing improved greatly fromhis rendition of "The Music of the Night." Emmy Rossum was phenomenalfor how young she is. I'm glad they had a young girl play the part ofChristine because it really showed well how she's trying to mature andshe can take one path, the phantom's, or another with Raoul. Some mightfind it extravagant, lengthy and overdone but if not for that itwouldn't have half the effect that it does. Overall, the casting aswell was great for every part. Butler's voice was lacking I felt buthis face and costuming fit well. Driver was hilarious as the Italiandiva, Carlotta, and Madame Giry played a wonderfully mysterious role. The movie is amazing if you can get past the less than perfectportrayal of the phantom's "angelic" voice.
I absolutely loved Phantom of the Opera. Words cannot express how Ifeel. The music is awesome. It's completely stirring and hypnotic.Andrew Lloyd Webber is a genius. The actors are superb. The supportingcast is wonderful, but the stars truly stole my breath away. GerardButler may be a young, sexy Phantom, but it suits this version of theclassic very well. He's devastatingly gorgeous, tortured and emotional. His singing is powerful, moving me to tears. Even if I couldn't see theemotions in his face, I could feel them through his voice. He IS thePhantom - heart, soul and body. Emmy Rossum is a brilliant Christine. Her voice is angelic, her face innocent. She pulls you into her world, her confusion, her pain. Patrick Wilson is the only likable Raoul I'veseen. He's brilliant and man, the boy can sing! He's born to play thispart! I loved it! I cried at the end, I applauded the credits, I saw it5 times!!! See it! Believe me - you'll love it!!!
I was amazed by this movie. The voices, the music it was all perfect. Ithought the Gerard Butler did a wonderful job as the phantom. I lovedhis voice. If you have not seen the movie I highly suggest you go. Nothis wasn't Broadway but I thought I was just as good. It seems fromthe critics that when they went and saw the movie they expectedBroadway and there is a difference. My suggestion is don't listen tothe critics. Go see the movie and judge for your self. The criticspretty much slashed the movie but I thought it was the best. I do planon seeing the movie again. It gave me chills watching it. The storyline kept me hooked the entire time. Like I said, Absolutely Perfect.
This version of 'the phantom of the opera' has some kind of magicalquality which enchants souls all around. First thing I must say, isthat Sir Lloyd Webber is a genius and his music makes miracles to theminds of those who listen to it. Unlike many people say, the voice ofGerard Butler (phantom) fits perfectly with those of Emmy Rossum(christine) and Patrick Wilson (raoul). Gerard has not the professionalmusical background of Emmy or Patrick, but his voice seduces and adds anecessary temper to the songs. Then the whole movie has a surprisingtaste of shape and color, mixed with Lloyd Webber's music you will wantto replay over and over again. I have seen the movie many times myself, and I just can't get tired of it. Perfect for Christmas season, perfectfor Halloween, perfect for dark stormy nights, and perfect for anyartist, fool or daydreamer. It has a sweet scent of Gothic romance.
It is interesting to read comments (including ones by professionalcritics) that say the Phantom in the film version is too good lookingor too young or that he not horrifying enough. These people have missedthe fact that this film is an adaptation of the popular stage musical, not an adaptation of the original book. Andrew Lloyd Webber's musicalis about a tragic, romantic love story, not about a horror story. Thepopularity of the stage production is grounded in the memorable musicthat permeates this story of unrequited love. One primary reason for the film's popularity with moviegoers is thesexual attractiveness of Gerard Butler's Phantom. Without a sexy, charismatic Phantom, fans would not be flocking back to the theater forrepeat performances, as indicated by many of the comments. The peoplewho don't like the film have very valid criticisms, but those who areswooning over the leading man are blind to Joel Schumacher'sshortcomings. In casting an attractive, hunky Phantom, Schumacher andWebber ensured that the movie would be a big hit with at least half ofthe movie going public. A smart move on their part. In addition, sinceChristine was played by a seventeen year old, a much older Phantomwould have been distasteful and might have verged on pedophilia. With that said, I'll never understand why Schumacher didn't dub GerardButler who had no prior professional singing experience. Butler'sacting ability could still shine through even if the singing voicebelonged to someone else. This is a MUSICAL after all, and as such, theleading man should have had a phenomenal singing voice. (Dubbingcertainly didn't hurt Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady.) And thelip-syncing....really inexcusable. There's another problem (amongothers) that's particularly annoying. Why in the world was Raoul olderlooking than Madame Giry in 1919?? Oh well, if that's the price we haveto pay to see a Phantom who's a romantic heartthrob, maybe it's worthit. If you're a romantic at heart who likes to see attractive leadingmen on the screen, go see this one as soon as possible.
Oh my god! I saw this movie yesterday and I am still affected by thisit. This movie is honestly one of the best movies ever made! My wholefamily have been Phantom fans since my parents saw the show in LA yearsago. So I was exposed to the music when I was very young and loved it.This movie didn't feel like a movie to me. It felt as if I was watchingit on stage. It was that good. Emmy Rossum is gorgeous, wonderfulactress, and a beautiful singer! Gereard is a wonderful Phantom, playing a more angry bitter Phantom, and it works so well! Minnie washilarious and Patrick Wilson was awesome as well. This movie is somoving it had everyone (even me a 14 year old boy, tearing up) in thetheater bawling a sniffling, because you just felt bad for the poorPhantom in the end. I am so excited I am seeing this movie again! Youreally need to watch this movie and see how it stays with you for awhile. 10/10 (no lie)
Truly Amazing It really did the musical proud and had a lot more in itthan could be brought to the stage Gerard Butler really shone and sodid Emmy rossum Ilook forward to seeing what the future has in storefor these two actors Every emotion you thought could possibly be in anymovie was in this one at some stage. I feel that Joel Schumacher haslived up to his reputation and justice was done by Sir Andrew LloydWebber truly a genius even in this day and age of musical theater Icould go and see it again and again and still want more I totallyrecommend this to anyone who loved the musical and even to those new tothe story. Two thumbs up Gentlemen great work
I've seen "Phantom" on Broadway and loved it. Now I can see this greatperformance of "Phantom Of The Opera" from the comfort of my livingroom whenever I want to. The film does not attempt to be the Broadwayplay. It succeeds on its own as a "classic" film. Emmy Rossum iswonderfully cast as Christine: her angelic voice continued to echo inmy mind long after the film had ended. "Prodigue" is an understatementfor such a beautiful young actress. Gerard Butler makes a great"Phantom" and, paired with Emmy Rossum, he completes the magic of thefilm. Andrew Lloyd Weber's music is totally consuming, drawing on allyour emotions at the most dramatic times. Indeed, bring tissues!
The Phantom Of The Opera Was Great! A Movie that everyone needs to see.I don't understand why everyone is calling it a failure... I can't tellenough people how much I loved it! Andrew Lloyd Webber did an amazingjob once again, and his cast was outstanding! Everyone but MinnieDriver sang their own parts, and did great. Gerard Butler is stunningas The Phantom, with an amazing voice that captures the every emotionyou will feel as you watch from your seat. Emmy Rossum is alsofabulous, as she portrays the lovely Christine. Take my advice, ThePhantom Of The Opera is a must see. I've seen it twice and can't getenough, I'm hooked forever.
Gerry Butler is a sexy, commanding, seductive, mesmerizing Phantom. Hisvoice is so strong and full of emotion, that you forgive him the fewquirks (accent) that sneak in from time to time. Can you imagine thebravery required to take this project on when you've had noprofessional vocal training and a very heavy Scottish accent? Take iton he did - and what an amazing result! He portrays the Phantom as anangry, lonely, lost soul. Emmy Rossum was absolutely beautiful - inlooks and lyrics! She was a perfect 'young girl coming of age' - theperfect role for her! Patrick Wilson was amazing. He made Raoul alittle more likable that other renditions. His voice is so pure andhypnotic, he is simply an awesome actor - a Perfect Prince Charming! The supporting cast was sheer perfection - Minnie Driver, MirandaRichardson - everyone! The music is addictive! Once you start listeningto the soundtrack, you'll be seduced into listening to it over and overagain! This movie and The Music of the Night will stay in your mind fora long, long time!
I never thought that the beauty of the stage could be put on film sowell. Joel Schumacher took the play by Andrew Lloyd Webber to newheights with the amazing locations and scenery. The acting and dancingare nothing less then a 10. Emmy Rossum is the perfect Christine withthe voice of the angel she plays. The performances given by GerardButler and Patrick Wilson make it hard for you to choose who you wantto win Christine's heart. For those of you who have never seen the playthis is truly up to the comparison. Make sure you are with people whodon't mind you singing along. The songs will enchant you. Phantom willcaptivate you and in the end you will either fall in love with or feelpity for the Phantom.
is that the Phantom, even with the insanity and severe deformity islike 10 times hotter than Raoul. And Rauol and Christine seemed poorlycast. Oh, and the flashback, what is the point in that?? You know fromthe start that Raoul lives to an old age, so you're not the least bitworried when he's fighting the Phantom throughout 1/2 the movie. Iswear, sometimes they just don't seem to have thought of the mostsimple stuff!! In addtion to Gerard Butler, Minnie Driver and some of the supportingcast and great. Miranda Richardson seems wasted in her role (comparedwith other parts she's played in the past), but I guess there's not alot out there for women her age. But, it's still worth seeing if you enjoy ALW and musicals. I'm surethe stage version is better, but if you can't see it, this is the nextbest thing. It is a big spectacular musical with some of the best songsever, so if you enjoy musicals/romance there's no way to no see this.
Oh my God Oh my God its Amazing its Phantastic. I've seen the play 11times and the movie 5 times its just amazing. I've never seen a moviethis wonderful and this amazing. Because how much amazing it was Iinvited all my family members including my grandparents on my treat. They were just shocked.. they kept saying that they have never everexpected the movie to be this great. Please I insist that everybodymust go and see this movie, this true art! The money you spend on thetickets really worths it. All i wanted to do was just hug the Phantom,Carlotta, and Christine...... It's Phan Phan Phan Tastic.."The phantomof the opera is there inside my mind." Its so Romantic! I adored themall! :) GREAT JOB EVERYONE!
I awaited with extreme impatience for the film release of one of thegreatest musicals of recent years. In many respects, the film was superior to the stage production, whichI saw in Sydney in the very early 90's - mostly due to the availabilityof special effects, technology and precise placing of shots, whilst astaging demands a continuous flow from scene to scene. The production, sets and costuming were immaculate, the directionranged from good to the sublime, and of course the music was glorious, beautifully adapted to the immaturity of the Christine's (Emmy Rossum)voice - Sarah Brightman was an experienced, trained classical singerand it would be unfair to expect the same power and richness to bepresent in Emmy's voice at just 17 years of age. Raoul (Patrick Wilson)was a glorious surprise - who would have suspected that he would havesuch a voice. It was so very enjoyable to see his character givengreater prominence in the film. The major disappointment, and the only item holding the film back forma 10 out of 10, was the unbelievably poor performance by The Phantom(Gerard Butler). Usually a wonderful actor to watch, in "The Phantom ofthe Opera" he was wooden and clumsy - when he's supposed to be seducingChristine into his den of musical delights, he seems rather to bedragging a reluctant student to the headmaster. The tortured soul ofthe genius Phantom is nowhere to be found, rather we see a spoiltlittle boy having temper-tantrums when he doesn't get the toys hewants. All of which could have been excusable, if his singing wasn't soabsolutely appalling. In this day and age where we have the technicalbrilliance to change a bad voice to a #1 hit, why was so littleattention paid to poor Butler. Beside his apparently complete lack ofability to colour his voice with emotions or dynamics (except "loud" or"soft"), there were far too many occasions when his singing was justplainly flat. It was an excruciating pain to anyone who has trulyenjoyed the original music and productions. Audrey Hepburn in "My FairLady" had her singing dubbed, so (even though this was a very expensive[$95 M] independent production) couldn't the same have been done here? Sorry, Messieurs Schumacher & Lloyd-Webber, but your casting here was ahorrible flaw that has dragged down the luster of an otherwiseexquisitely beautiful production.
This is the best ever film i have ever watched in fact i have watchedit more than a dozen times and listen to the music every day mygranddaughter knows all the words to the film she is only 5yrs old sheloves it.I have only seen clips of the stage show but it could not bebetter then the film so I'm not bothered about seeing it. i loved thephantom would love to marry him and i have read all that i can about itso from one obsessive fan to someone who hasn't seen the film please doit will change your life as it has mine.My husband bought it for me forxmas and it is the best present i have ever had i just hope it doesn'tspoil by playing my CD too much.
THis movie is worth seeing. The girl who sings "Angel of music" withthe main girl has really big breasts. Dang they are nice. The music isreally good, good story line. Most of the actors are good. The personwho plays the phantom is supposed to be ugly but all the girls I knowsays that he is hot. The costumes, and everyone has a good voice. Andthat girl has really nice breasts. That's good too. Worth seeing, goodmusic. Crazy stuff that movie. Both of the girls are pretty hot, andthat girl has big breasts. Did I mention that? Well, I say go watch it,cause it is a pretty good movie. Good movie, go see it. If nothingelse, to see the girl who has REALLY BIG BREASTS. the music is classic, the songs are great. It's a pretty deep movie if you think about it,deep stuff. I always wanted to see the play on stage, but I never have, but I don't know if it would be as good, it might be, I'll have to gosee it. Maybe they'll make another "Phantom of the Opera" in ten years, and maybe it will be better. That'd be good.
This movie was a wonderful treat for someone who could not go to NewYork City to catch the show. I went to see the movie with moderateexpectation and came away with great enjoyment. The cast is excellentand the magnificent scenes got my attention right away. There is noover-acting, which is common when there are superstars in a movie. Tobe picky, I would probably make the "phantom" a little more scary.Comparing to the opera, the movie loses some, but gives a little morein other aspects, like those beautiful French buildings and structures. The music is familiar, which is good to some, and might not be so goodto others. Some might feel too much of the same thing. Judging by theaverage age of the audience (40+) in the theater that day, that was nota problem. I was almost too young (40s). My 10-year old daughter wasprobably the youngest. I can see that this movie attracts an oldercrowd. Many went to see the movie because they remembered the story andthe tune. It is a shame that some young people are not even aware ofthe movie.I would recommend parents and grandparents taking their grandchildrento see this movie. It is a great breakaway from today's many senselessmovies. If you can spend money to watch "The Fockers," you can spendmoney watching this great, wholesome movie.
Once again, Hollywood has taken a musical and cast it with actors whocan't sing. Gerard Butler hasn't got the voice for the role of ThePhantom and Emily Rossum must have been lip syncing, but since there isno mention of a dubbed voice, i.e. Marnie Nixon for Deborah Kerr andAudrey Hepburn, I have to conclude that's her voice and it's no goodeither. Since movies by nature aren't live, they have to make up for itby providing top notch performances. This one doesn't even come close.I compare it to the absolutely awful "Man of La Mancha" which was castto fail. Another one with this problem is the movie version of "WestSide Story," which at least has superior dancing to make up fornon-singers as leads.Bottom line, see it live on stage. The moviehasn't a ghost of a chance.
