"when love is gone" good riddance

I noticed a lot of people griping about how the one song featuring young strapping scrooge and his then "girlfriend" was cut. I have to admit, I'm a huge Muppet Christmas Carol fan, but that song was awful. The girl's voice was terrible and it was kind of an embarrassment to the movie. Back when all we had was the VHS version we always rolled our eyes and fast forwarded through that song. My family and I were pleasantly surprised when we saw that we didn't have to skip that part on our own, the DVD was cut. If you really want to see what you are missing, I'm sure you could look it up on youtube, and then it will be obvious why it was cut.

Muppets are great

This is a hilarious take on the classic christmas story. The muppets know how to make it creative and fun. I must see during the christmas holidays.

Odd with the muppets, but the best by far!

Sure, the muppets mixed in with a Christmas classic it does sound sort of strange, but it works out beautifully! While this story is warped into too many emotionally sterile versions(like Scrooge, in the seventies or so, Mrs. Cratchet wasn't even mourning Tiny Tim! Albert Finney Could NOT act and the music, most of it, was terrible!)this one really focuses on the humanity of the story and characters. Human emotions were finally shown! Michael Caine was excellent as Scrooge. The love between him and Belle was really believable(when he joins her at the end of her song, you can tell he has repeated her parting words ever since; he MUST have loved her!). Emily Cratchet was finally mourning her son(more realistic), and Bob Cratchet's speech about being parted from a loved one is a fact of life is one of the most touching moments. The score to the movie, why didn't they make a soundtrack?! They each tie into their scenes so well that if they were removed, it would just be missing something; When Love is Gone" is one of the saddest, most beautiful love ballads I've ever heard and its sequence is equally heartbreaking; no wonder Scrooge (and Rizzo)was crying when Belle left, he must have loved Belle very much and seeing it happen again...it would break the hardest heart, it did with me, and I'm 17 and hardened through and through, although I do care about others! I just can't go past that scene; its too much! This movie is just SO touching! I highly recommend it!

The Muppet Christmas Carol

This is a great movie. We have watched it every year for a number of years. It has become a Christmas tradition that our whole family watches together. It just gets better and better every year. We bought 6 copies this year, one for each of our kids and their own families.

One of the finest holiday movies.

I love Christmas movies. I love the kindness, and love, and warmth in these movies, even if they aren't about Jesus Christ. It helps to show that people can be good, and kind, and caring. That's what the whole season is about, to my mind. Christmas movies show us that. And this is a great movie, because it is very much a perfect Christmas movie. The songs are absolutely perfect ("It Feels Like Christmas" is probably one of my favorite Christmas songs now), the acting (both human and puppet) is great, and the story is very true to the actual novel by Dickens. The dialogue is both funny and touching, and it makes a lot of points that you both wouldn't expect in a Muppet movie, and wouldn't see the first time around. In short, this is a great movie that gets better every time you watch it. So watch it, and watch it...

The Man Who Hated Christmas

This film will encourage everyone to enjoy Christmas. I CANNOT think of ANY person who will hate Christmas and want it to be banned. A large percentage of the population in the world have Christmas as their favourite time of the year; it is such a popular festival. In this film, Mr Scrooge is a strange person who HATES Christmas. Because of his rude behaviour, he is greeted by 3 ghosts who take him to visit different areas of time:The 1st ghost is a child. This is the ghost of the PAST, who takes Mr Scrooge on a trip through his own childhood, allowing him to see what he was like when he was younger. The ghost presented a scene of him watching his wife depart because she felt he did not love her anymore. The ghost also presented a scene of when Scrooge was at school. When Scrooge recognized the other boys in the school, he called to them; but the ghost said, 'They cannot see or hear you'. This was true because Scrooge was not able to intervene with the way things had already been: it was as if Scrooge was looking at a video tape of the past. The 2nd ghost is a man with a long beard. This is the ghost of the PRESENT, who takes Scrooge on a tour of the town, presenting the way things are now. This ghost was teaching Scrooge about the traditions of Christmas which happened at the time of the story. The 3rd Ghost is a grim reeper, who does not talk at all. This is the GHOST of the future, who presents pictures of what things might be like in the future if Mr Scrooge behaves the way he presently does. The ghost took Mr Scrooge to a street which had a group of people standing in the rain and talking about what they thought of Mr Scrooge. Since the ghost did not talk, he communicated by pointing and guiding: for example, when Mr Scrooge told the ghost to show him more things, the ghost simply pointed in a particular direction.I would like to finish this report by making a few comments about the film:- When a carol singer went onto the doorstep of Mr Scrooge`s house, he began to sing at a QUICK SPEED. When Mr Scrooge opened the front door, the carol singer`s speed on singing SLOWED DOWN quickly until he was silent. It was then that Mr Scrooge dismissed the carol singer. I think that the carol singer got nervous and had a bad feeling. So that`s PROBABLY why he started to sing at a slower speed.- When the ghost of the present arrived in a graveyard, he said he was going to die at midnight (when the clock struck 12). By the time the ghost arrived at the graveyard, HIS BEARD HAD CHANGED COLOUR. I didn`t think it was possible for a ghost to get old like that. The ghost of the present magically disappeared at midnight. This is when the ghost of the future appeared out of the ground. This whole scene was kind of strange, and I will have to question the people who made the film why it done like this. Basically, when Mr Scrooge had finished seeing a ghost, he would FIND HIMSELF BACK IN HIS BEDROOM: for example, when he had finished seeing the ghost of the past, he sat down on a wall in a scene of the past & then found himself sitting on his bed in his bedroom. When Mr Scrooge told the ghost of the future he couldn`t bear to think about the future, he found himself pulling at a garment in his bedroom. The ONLY EXCEPTION is the scene where the ghost of the present was in the graveyard and was about to die. This was the only time when one ghost changed to another in the same time. I think it was a bit strange on one ghost to did and be replaced by another: in the original book, the 3 ghosts appeared in sepearte dreams; at the end of each dream, Mr Scrooge found himself back in his room.- This film is a children`s adaptation of an adult novel. It will encourage children to read the original novel at an early age. It will also persuade children to enjoy Charles Dickens and read the other books written by him. I think Charles Dickens is an excellent author: his stories are so realistic and moralistic that lots of people would learn important things from them.

Disney DVD Disappointment

"Muppet Treasure Island" and "Muppet Christmas Carol" are both good movies, but Disney came out with a bad DVD. Both of the movies are in full screen format. I think they should really have offered wide screen versions of the films. The Special Features of Muppet Christmas Carol are: *Audio Commentary by Director Brian Henson. *Frogs, Pigs, and Humbug: Unwrapping a new Holiday Class, which is a making of documantary. *Christmas Around the World. *On the Set which are the out takes from the movie. *And animated menues. Over all, the special features are good, but i am not happy that it is only in full screen format. If you are mad as well call Disney to get it changed at: 1-800-723-4763.

I love this movie.

Micahel Caine stars as Scrooge( and a good one) in The MuppetsChristmas carol. A very, very cute adaptation of Dickens' classic tale.I love The Muppets. I love whatever they do. I love Treasue island, thejewel thief one and others. I think my favorite would have to be TheChristmas carol though. Michael Caine does very well(of course he does he's Michael Caine) asScrooge. I will not go into the story plot with you. We have seen atleast one out of the billion adaptations. There is a fantastic one intheatres as we speak. You must see that one. Anyways, back to theMuppet's. In a lot of Muppet's movies, they at least have one famous actor. There's in this one is Michael Caine. Caine does such a good job ineverything he's in. We should all know that. The Muppet's areincredibly funny. All of the characters are. I think I like Kermit themost. Quit the heckling. I think Kermit is annoying. You have such a good time with this movie. The songs in it,surprisingly, are good. I ain't into musicals, this isn't really one,but they do well here. Caine is convincing, as are the Muppets. Thisisn't the best of the Christmas carol adaptations. But it is a goodone. There have been a hundred adaptations of A Christmas carol. Though TheMuppets isn't the best, it is one of them. I give it a high ratingbecause I love The Muppets and because I laugh a lot during this film.I like how, besides Scroge and his nephew and his friends, everyone inthe town was a Muppet. The Muppets Chirstmas carol is a good film. Nodoubting that. And perhaps one of my favorite Christmas films.

A wonderful Christmas tale

The lovable Muppets put their own spin on Dicken's classic Christmas story. Kermit plays Tim Cratchet, and Miss Piggy is Mrs. Cratchet. This is a wonderful edition that should appeal to adult fans of the book as well as children just discovering the story. I am very pleased to see it is finally available on DVD to enjoy at any time. With several amusing and memorable songs, and wonderful characterizations including a fine rendition of Scrooge by Micael Caine, it's a movie to treasure not only at Christmas, but at any time of year when we need a little reminder of what the holiday season is truly all about.

Best version of the classic

My partner & I have been watching this annually since the year it came out in theaters. We love the songs and the muppets bring sparkle & life to the classic tale.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE

I saw this movie when I was in the fourth grade and my best friend and I still watch it every Veterans Day to start off the holiday season. It's tradition. Everyone should buy this movie.

Our favorite Christmas Carol

This review is from: The Muppet Christmas Carol - Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition (DVD) Muppet Christmas Carol is our favorite version of this Dickens story. It obviously deviates slightly because of the muppet characters, but not enough to change the general story. We love the music and the humor in it. Michael Caine is wonderful as scrooge and the "ghosts of Christmas' past, present and future" are very fun to watch. They all create the appropriate feelings. My only complaint has nothing to do with the movie, only the shipping. We paid extra to get it overnight and didn't receive it for 4 days. We did get it in time for Christmas, but it was on Christmas Eve and we had wanted to watch it before then.

One of the Best Family Adaptations of Dickens' Classic

Michael Caine plays a believable Scrooge surrounded by a supporting cast of fuzzy characters. The plot is surprisingly close to the book, making this a good introduction to the story, and the sound track has some very nice songs that work outside of the film as well as in. One feature that makes this especially useful for families with small children is the fact that Gonzo and Rizzo "exit" the film just before it gets "scary." So if you are afraid the Ghost of Christmas Future will creep out the very small ones (it probably won't, but you be the judge), you just tell them to close their eyes, then you zap ahead until you see Gonzo again. - Paul Race, Editor, Family Christmas Online

Muppet's Christmas Carol Review

An excellent festive version of the Dicken's novel. Puts one is real festive spirit. The reworked version is excellent and having both the fullscreen and widescreen versions on the same DVD gives obvious choice.

Quite possibly the best Christmas Carol there is!

Dear Readers, Each year when Christmas rolls around we get buried underthe weight of cheesy Hallmark channel original movies about Christmas.Usually we get a new version of the Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens'smost famous and popular novel about the redemption of a man who doesn'tbelieve in Christmas. Some of the most worthy Christmas Carols are theGeorge C. Scott version (Which I badly want to see), Scrooged with BillMurray (Which is technically a spoof but still worthy of mention), andThe Christmas Carol with Patrick Stewart (Which was very true to thenovel in almost every way) while other versions basically stink likeThe Christmas Carol Musical with Kelsey Grammar and the way too shortand slightly stupid Disney Christmas Carol (Though I do have to admitthe scene where the Ghost of Christmas Future shoves Scrooge into hisgrave and a fiery coffin opens up was chilling beyond belief.). Thebest, without a doubt, is the Muppet Christmas Carol. It's not scary(Most of the time), has an AWESOME Scrooge (Michael Caine is perfect!)and the story doesn't revolve around the muppets. Plus the songs arecool.Narrated by Dickens himself...who bears a remarkable resemblance to theGreat Gonzo, and aided by Rizzo the Rat, The Christmas Carol is set inDickensian London at, what else, Christmas time! We then meet EbenezerScrooge, a vicious money-lender who hates Christmas with a passion andlove money with a lust. On Christmas Eve night he is warned by hisdeceased business partners, Jacob and Robert Marley, that he will dieif he doesn't change his ways. Three spirits, one at a time, visit himand show him the Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Scrooge learns somuch about how he came to hate Christmas that finally repents on hisgrave. Envigorated with the Christmas Spirit, Scrooge sets out to makeit a wonderful and Merry Christmas for everyone! Signed, The ConstantDVD Collector

Utterly silly!

This film gives us the Muppets when they are genuinely funny, and it is funto watch. It has its good points and bad points, but generally it movesalong swiftly and with enough scatterbrained weirdness to keep us laughing.Of the main characters, Kermit makes a great Bob Cratchit, with Miss Piggydoing her usual scary domineering bit, this time as his wife. Gonzo andRizzo make up a suitable pair of storytellers and provide much of the funnystuff. Michael Caine seems to be enjoying himself as he converses with thefurry gang and is entertaining as Scrooge. All of the film's best bits come from the Muppets themselves because theyare undeniably comical! The songs are generally fun and suitably silly, except for a few which are tame or just plain dull - with one particularlydire example almost killing the whole film. These dips into slushy sentimentare what hold the film back, but there are always weird fluffy creaturesaround the next corner to make you giggle! Overall, it's a giddy piece ofChristmas fun.7/10

Great movie, bad DVD edition

This review is from: The Muppet Christmas Carol - Kermit's 50th Anniversary Edition (DVD) Have owned the VHS version for years, and despite the somewhat negative reviews, decided to get the DVD version. Read the other more knowledgable reviewers who noted the cut of the sappy "When Love is Gone" song and lack of true widescreen format. Disney deserves a kick in the grundle for this! So, I'm giving this format a 3 stars, although I also think the movie is a 5 star.

A great film thanks to building itself round a great performance from Caine

Due to other commitments, myself and partner were having a later"Christmas Day" together on something like the 27th or 28th and I wasputting some things together to make it feel as festive as possible. Ihad borrowed some compilation CD's of festive music as well as someDVD's of various Christmas films that could just be run on the TV inthe background on mute. Making an assumption I put this film on muteonly to be told that my partner had never seen it and, not having seenit myself for several years, we stopped it as background and decided towatch it at the end of a day of cheer, relaxing, feeding ducks in thepark, presents, food and, of course, wine. So it was we came to watchthe Muppet Christmas Carol, perhaps with low demands but stillunwilling to put up with anything that wasn't good or that dragged themood down.I needn't have worried because, although it is not a perfect film,Muppet Christmas Carol is a real joy that delivers on several levels. Most surprisingly the focus is on the telling of the story – this hasits own modifications but it is surprisingly faithful to the story weall know and it is only really the use of the narrator that changes howit flows. This doesn't matter though because the film is surprisinglyengaging – it doesn't just TELL the events, it draws us into thecharacters – or rather "character". I make this distinction becausethat the film does this is almost entirely down to a performance fromMichael Caine that is brilliant apart from one or two minor misstepsthat are more down to the material than him. It is not just that heplays it deadly straight the whole time despite being surrounded bypuppets and people below him working them, it is that he plays it sovery well – this is a performance that is way beyond the standardexpected for such a film. He holds so much emotion in his eyes and facethat minor changes tell of a softening or hardening of his heart. It isin this area that the film engages and it is almost a shame that it isa seasonal kids film because his performance deserves more praise thanit gets.In support of him, the film shores up with other aspects that youexpect it to deliver in. In terms of laughs there are plenty but nomassive killer or sequences that are built around a joke – it is keythat he humour never gets in the way of the plot or compromises Caine'spart of the film. I say "part" because, although the narration devicehas its detractors, I did like it as an easy way of framing the storybut more for the fact that it allowed for little comic moments thatexist as part of the film without putting jokes into the actualChristmas Carol story so much as in the packaging thereof. The songsare rarely magical but are serviceable at worst and good at best –Caine's singing is not great but his performance bought him a pass onthat as far as I was concerned and credit to him for doing it himself. The various Muppet characters are all well received as on paper it is"their" film, even if reality it is very much Caine's.It seems weird to be praising a children's Christmas film because as agenre they are rarely the place to go for entertainment as they can beobvious, sentimental and not really much good outside of the season. However, thanks to the core work of Caine, this is a good film in itsown right and the well-delivered humour and songs around this core onlyhelp and don't detract.
