Eddie, an indomitable Hong Kong cop, is transformed into an immortal warrior with superhuman powers after a fatal accident involving a mysterious medallion. Eddie enlists the help of British Interpol agent Nicole to determine the secret of the medallion and face down the evil Snakehead who wants to use its magical powers for his own nefarious plans.
This was by far the WORST Jackie Chan movie i have ever seen. Don't get me wrong, i love Jackie Chan, i have seen most of his movies. Jackie can do anything, climb up walls in less than 5 seconds, stop international threats, and the like. But something that Jackie can not do is lead in a romance movie. It was just so bad, watching him play the romantic, and the girl was such a bad actress, it was painful to watch.Don't get me started on the side-kick, he and Jackie just didn't have the chemistry that the other guy and Jackie had in 'Shanghi Noon' and 'Shanghi Knights'. The plot line was weird, it's as if the directors are running out of reasons why Jackie continues to kick... in movies. I thought that it would be cool to see Jackie catch bullets, and destroy car doors, but even that didn't save the movie. They didn't even show the bullet-catching scene in the movie!! It was only in the trailer!! If you watch this movie and come out thinking this was his 'best', i weep for you. For all the others who can see a bad movie a mile away, steer clear of this. I only wish i didn't waste a 1hour and a half of my life watching this horrible excuse for a film when i could have been watching a decent movie like 'House of a 1000 corpses' (no pun intended).
So, the Dimension recut of "The Accidental Spy" doesn't get any kind ofnational theatrical release in the US, but this piece of junkdoes?Wha'sup with that? What kind of logic is that? Even the chopped up Spy is better than this! There are a couple of good bitsin "The Medallion," but they are very, very few and very far between.Dimension--give someone who knows how to make movies (and from what I'veseen of his past work, that ain't Gordan Chan) ALL the footage and let'shave a re-edit. I've seen lots of unused footage in the trailers and TVspots, and I think there's a good movie somewhere in all thatcelluloid.
I can't believe I spent part of my Saturday night watching this film. It starts with Jackie sporting some type of almost mullet-type hairstyle... and then it gets worse. Horrible special effects, lame fights, stupid story, terrible acting, and bad music.... and not in a good way. You know how movies are so stupid they're funny? This is just stupid. Make it stop, please :[
Jackie is great in this film, those who say he should retire should try to do these stunts at 40+ or 18, for that matter. I liked the film because you know Jackie is doing all his own stunts and that is rare these days! Go see the film, you will like it!
*****Awesome ****Good ***Average ** Don't see in theatres * Never seeTHE MEDALLION(2003)**** Jackie Chan, Lee Evans, Clare Forlani, and JulianSands. This Jackie Chan action comedy is way better than his film "TheTuxedo". This was funnier, and more exciting. For anyone who enjoys Jackie Chan movies or even plain action movies, Iwould highly rcommend this. This had cool special effects, excitingactionsequences, and some funy moments! If you hated the tuxedo, then you'llenjoythis. If you liked the tuxedo, you'll love this.PG-13; action/violence and some sexual humor.
I found this to be a very entertaining Jackie Chan movie considering thecosmic mish-mash of the plot. I'm continually amazed at Jackie Chan'ssenseof humor and timing in the action scenes. I really enjoyed the ensemblecastthat he put together for this film. I thought that John-Ryes Davies andClaire Forlani were excellent choices to give the movie depth. My onlycomplaint is that John doesn't get enough screen time and Claire isn'tdolled up enough. They should have dressed her up like Jennifer LoveHewittin the Tuxedo. It was good to see that Jackie's pal Sammo Hung was backdirecting the action scenes. All in all, I thought this was a good movieandworth the price of admission.
Well what can i say this has to be one of the worst films i have everseen. After the last few attempts by Jaki to break into the western market iwaslooking forward to it but how i was wrong.....Lee Evans plays the usual idiot person making mistakes and still isntfunnybut the actual film plot is so lame its laughable...Save yourself 90mins and cut the grass of something... You will thank melater
Not only the worst Jackie film ever, but one of the worst films ever*period*! Longtime fans of Jackie's films will be highly disappointedby the constant use of ultra-cheap Hong Kong wire work. A man astalented as Jackie Chan should never lower his standards by resortingto the use of wire stunts, especially none as cheap and inefficient asthe ones used in this film. One element that makes Jackie so special is that his feet never have toleave the ground for him to be one of the most entertaining andexciting people on film. But in this film, unnecessary and gratuitouswire action was used almost throughout the entire film, totallydetracting from Jackie's real life talents. My wife who is a long timeJackie fan asked me, "Where is Jackie in this film"? The fact is,besides it being Jackie's name, funny face, and goofy dialog, thecharacter of Eddie Yang could have been played by anyone. In fact, tomaintain Jackie's good reputation as a wonderful talented action star,it would have been much better to have someone else in this role. Butas a result of Jackie being the man in this movie, the fight scenes inThe Medallion were quite frankly Jackie's worst ever and I speak withconfidence in saying they were some of the worst ever for any film. The worst thing about this film is that within the first 5 minutes, Ialready knew it was going to be one of the most painful filmexperiences ever. This feeling was further acknowledged when I realizedthat the character Arthur Watson was there to stay. A scene stealer?Perhaps a thief along the lines of a car thieving joyrider. He tookevery scene he was in for a ride and threw it away. Not even halfwaythrough the movie, my eyes were sore from rolling them every time heappeared on screen. They say a good film has the ability to stir your emotions and expandyour mind. If a film can make you laugh, make you cry, make you thinkdeeply, and put you on the edge of your seat, then it is a great film. This movie did absolutely none of these. My reaction to this film wasdisappointment, anger, annoyance, and confusion. Everything about thismovie was bad: The acting, the story, the directing, the editing, theaction, the fight scenes, the stunts and wire work, the camera-work,the characters, the locale, the dialog, the sound, the specialeffects...the list could go on until every element of the film has beenexhausted. It was a huge waste of time and would not even be worthwatching on DVD or Video rental. As for the cheap throaty scream that was used twice in the film. I readsomeone say it was a public domain sound and came from Mortal Kombat. No doubt the truth. But I am pretty sure it was used in some of theStar Wars Dark Forces video games and bares a strong resemblance to thesound used when Luke Skywalker falls down the bowls of Cloud City inEmpire Strikes Back.I rented this movie using a free coupon I received from a video storefor which I am a stockholder. And I want that free coupon back! I feelI should make a claim against the video store for putting little signsaround this movie that said, "Hot Rental". This was false advertisingand such claims caused me to waste my free coupon which I could haveused on any other movie in the store. And I really wish that I did.I love Jackie, but this movie was absolutely bad.
'The Medallion' captures all of the qualities fans of Jakie Chan know and love, action, supspense, extreme humor, and a touch of mystisism, all the qualities I know and loved in the KID'S WB! 'Jakie Chan: Adventures' cartoon series. It has a great cast [Julian Sands as the dreaded Snakehead, Claire Forlani as the high kicking Interpol Agent Nicole, Lee Evens as the bumbling Agent Watson, and, of course, Jakie Chan as the Chinese Super-Man Eddie Yang] that help give the movie a great energy. The greatest thing about it was it wasn't afraid to make fun of itself! Great movie, I hope they make a sequel!
there is absolutely nothing surprising or innovative going on in this story, which is too bad, because there is a grand (though badly typecast) appearance by Julian Sands as the Devilishly-Handsome British Villain Seeking Superhuman Powers and Immortality Whilst Nancing About the Secret Lair in a Black Swishy Coat. and of course there is Jackie himself, reprising his perpetual role as Unappreciated and Underestimated Hong Kong Secret Agent Who is Kind to Animals and Small Children, Though Still Manages to Kick Ass in a Creative and Entertaining Fashion. also in this terrible flick, you will find The Mysterious, Adorable Asian Kid Who, Despite His God-Like Powers, Is In Constant Need of Rescue from the Aforementioned British Villain. Meanwhile, you can ogle Claire Forlani, the Eye Candy Who Serves as an Unconvincing Romantic Foil to the Sweet, Self-Effacing Hong Kong Agent Old Enough to be Her Father. and don't forget Lee Evans, the Bumbling British Agent Who Insists on Being In Charge, Yet Clearly Is Incapable of Leading a Raid On a Taco Stand, Much Less Taking On a Criminal Mastermind. and what the hell was John Rhys-Davis doing in this travesty of celluloid? well, i'll tell you. he's the Unspecifically-Foreign Director of Some Interpol Division Whose Job it is to Provide Deus Ex Machina, or Possibly He Was Just Looking for Harrison Ford, It Was Kind of Hard to Tell Since He Was Boasting the Exact Same Suit and Nondescript Accent That He Had in All the Indiana Jones Movies.of course, none of this is to say that we didn't enjoy it,'cuz we did. but that does not change the fact that it was a terrible movie.that's all i'm sayin'.
i dont know why people hate on this movie, its actually pretty good, it has good action, nice special effects, and the acting is so cheesy its funny...if you watch the film carefully youll find many flaws, like the reflection of the camera man on the door, a guys face behind a door, behind jackie chan..lol i dont know how they couldnt have noticed this or fixed it, but overall the movie was fun to watch, it aint ur hard core martial arts movie with bodies flying everywhere..it aint your hardcore action gore film, with lots of gun battles or what not. but theres still good action and comedy..Lee Evans gives the movie comic relief and Jacke Chan is still as funny " You dont think i dont recognize my own thing" after seeing himself dead, lol. there lots of funny lines in the movie..wich keeps it going..if ur not sure about it go rent it, by bought it cuz i like anything with jackie chan in it...and pretty women
No offense to Jackie Chan, but this movie is on my top ten worst. Iliked him all of his movies before this ranging from the "Rumble in theBronx" to "Rush Hour", but I really do not like this movie. There arecertain parts that leave you wondering whether everyone has powers theway people who don't have the medallion are floating through the air. Ithink the fighting scenes were very sub-par for Jacki Chan, and I thinkthat the only people who would enjoy this movie are children 10 andunder. I paid ten dollars to see this movie in the theaters and thatten dollars is the only reason that I didn't get up and walk out. Someparts of the movie were a little funny, but it seemed like the makersof the movie were trying to hard to be funny a lot of the time. Iregret paying to see that movie and I hope that Jackie Chan never makesone like that again.
I expect a lot more from Jackie Chan's movies. The story line seemed tojump around and the editing was poor. Some of the special effects mademefeel like I was watching streaming media over a slow connection. The relationship between Jackie and his girlfriend was not veryconvincing.Don't use this movie as a gauge of Jackie's USA productions. The RushHourand Shanghai series we much better.Spoiler:Why didn't they ever explain why the Librarian's wife hadweapons?
OK, let's face it. "The Medallion" which is basically a Hong Kong film (directed by Gordon Chan), is a disappointment to many fans in English-speaking countries. Yes, the plot about the big medal is silly at best. The jokes are corny (sure), and the CGI-enhanced actions are not clearly the best of Jackie Chan (who is 50 years old, but doesn't look like that). And as to his Hong Kong roots, Jackie made better films like "Who Am I?" "Project A" and several "Police Story"s. But "The Medallion" is not as bad as other reviews suggest, as long as you are a die-hard Jackie Chan fan. You can sidestep the story (for which five names credited!) about the magical golden medallion, and the thug who wants it (Julian Sands), and the buddies who chase him (Chan and delightful Lee Evans). After a botched police raid in Hong Kong, we see Chan's character Eddie landed in Dublin (but why Dublin? DON'T THINK!). Eddie meets Nicole (Claire Forlani, so beautiful) in the office, and the latter slaps him in the face for no other reason than to show her 'I love you but you treat me bad' attitude. Don't say it's corny, just have fun (or pretend that you didn't see). And the actions start. They are choreographed by legendary figure Sammo Hung Kam-Bo, who worked with Jackie many times before. The stunts are adequate, just good, but the use of wire is sometimes glaringly obvious while Jackie's movement itself is still agile. Still while watching it, I remembered his death-defying stunt in "Rumbles in Bronx" in which Jackie literally jumped from the top of the building to the terrace of the next one. It was a superhuman feat, and he said that he didn't use wire because it made the movements unnnatural. Sorry, but Jackie, the same thing is happening here now.The supports are surprisingly good (I mean, compared with noisy Chris Tucker in the two "Rush Hour"s), and surely high-kicking Clair Forlani looks great. I don't say she is as great as Jennifer in the TV series "Alias," but still far better than another Jennifer in "The Tuxedo." And she is incredibly amiable and charming in the end credit outtakes.Far from his best, and still not his worst, "The Medallion" is strictly for Jackie Chan's avid fans. Do not make this your starting point for watching the Jackie films, though.
I saw this movie last night at a sneak preview and am very happy Ididnot pay for this film. Next to the Tuxedo this is by far his worst film.At least in the Tuxedo I got to see Jennifer Love Hewitt, for 1 1/2 hours, but the computer generated moves are so played out that I am sick andtiredof them being in everything.I mean Claire Forlani may have the most gorgeous eyes in the world, buther and Jackie Chan had absolutely no chemistry. Lee Evans was the bestpart of this movie as his antics never got old.As per usual the absolute best part of this film is the outtakesduringthe credits. In my opinion Jackie has to have a good sidekick (ala Chris Tucker, andOwen Wilson) for his films to be successful. I am betting you will beableto rent this by next month.I would give it a generous 4/10.
In this movie, Jackie Chan is a Hong Kong detective who investigates a smuggler after an artifact called "The Medallion" that can give eternal life to those who wears it. However, there is a child who bears its powers and he was kidnapped. So, of course, Jackie Chan must save the child and stop the bad guys from misusing the Medallion. The problem with this Jackie Chan movie...is that it's not a Jackie Chan movie. I am a fan of many actors, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jim Varney, Chris Tucker, but there is no actor I hold as high as Jackie Chan. I have seen virtually every movie of his back from when he was a teenager and I'm still searching for all the well hidden films of his. To make the point short, I am an enormous Jackie Chan fan. What does that mean? Basically, it means I'll watch anything with Jackie Chan in it. Hell, I'll watch an martial arts porno if it has Jackie Chan in it. What THIS translate to is that I'm not difficult to please when it comes to Jackie Chan movies. All you have to do is star him and let him fight, preferably for at least 40% of the movie, and I'll love it. So how in the hell did this movie turn out like this?Well, because they mess up the fighting scenes. I hate those magical-type martial arts movies and, in this one, Jackie is jumping all over the place. What a misuse of talent. I hated this movie because it didn't have any of the classic Jackie Chan attributes. There was no jaw dropping fight scenes, there was virtually no Jackie-type comedy, there was no ANYTHING! You could replace Jackie Chan with Jet Li and I don't think people would notice the difference. This movie is an atrocity and, frankly, it should be torched. Jackie Chan movies from decades ago is better than this.
I saw the movie, it was a big disappointment. Actually I didn't have highhopes, because I saw the director was Gordon Chan, that said enough. :awfulacting, over the top "funny" scenes etc. However I was hoping for some oldschool HongKong style action, since the stunt director was Sammo Hung andthe movie was a HK production. But no, no crazy falls or stunts, andwhat'seven worse, Jacky always mentioned that he doesn't like SFX. But in thismovie there are loads of SFX and the fighting is not good at all. Thefightswere shot in an "american" style. That means close ups and a flurry offistsand feet and lots of fast editing techniques. Without actually seeing thewhole "wide angle" shot. No, better give me the original Drunken Masterandthe Fearless Hyena. I know, Jacky becomes older and older, maybe it shouldbe better to show some impressive fighting techniques, instead of fillingupthe movie with meaningless brawls and SFX. Tip: have a look at the endfights from Drunkenmaster and Drunkenmaster II and the Fearless Hyena(endless fights but immensely entertaining). That's the REAL Jacky and thekind of kung-fu action I started to love a long time ago. Please let me bethe director next time, I guess everyone could be a better director thanGordon Chan. Actually the same thing goes for Jet Lee, if you ever saw"theShaolin Temple" movie, one of his first movies, then you know this guy isextremely good in Kung-Fu. However when making "American" movies, thingsaren't looking so good anymore. Why do they need to shoot those movies insuch a unrealistic (spectacular) way, while keeping things simple helps tocreate a greater impact. Because you know it's a real kick or techniqueandnot a unrealistic movement. That's why Bruce Lee became so famous. Hiskung-fu was serious off and on screen. And that made an impact on theviewers. (the fight against Chuck Norris for example) Just one punch orkickcan level an opponent. I know that Jacky wants to entertain, and with goodreason, he is very good in that. But please do it in the "old school" wayand not the "i must fight like an western actor" way. Don't get me wrong Iam a big fan of Jacky, but I just have some comments on his recentdevelopments that I had to post here. The music was composed by someonecalled something like Adrian Lee, it was on par with the movie, that'smeansit was bad.Sorry Jacky, next time better I hope. Do it "your" own way not "their"way. Also a note to Gordon Chan, just make local HK movies and don't try tomakeWestern movies. People don't buy it. Sorry.
This was without a doubt, the worst Jackie Chan film I have ever seen,Whoever did the editing for this should be given a job in a McDonaldsflippingburgers, the film just didn't make sense! for example: can anyone explainwhyChristy Chung went from cute librarian housewife to full-on, kick assguntotingchick ? and why she had a hidden stash of weapons in the house ? becausethere was no explanation in the movie...Absolute dross.Apparently this was the most expensive HK movie ever made...someone should be asking for a refund.
As talented and as funny as Jackie Chan might be, this is really a dreadfulfilm intended for "family" viewing. I guess there isn't much to say hereexcept maybe you can watch this when there's ABSOLUTELY nothing else towatch. The movie deals with an oriental child who owns a Talisman with greatpowers. We never really know where this kid came from and we don't get muchbackground about the talisman. The action sequences are totally untense andchildish and the comedy is contrived to say the least. I guess under sometalented director this would have fared much better, but the story itself isa turkey. Rent at your own risk!
Please do not watch this movie, I'm trying not to drown in the stupiditysurrounding me as it is, and i can only assume, due to the stupid natureofthis film, that films like this are to blame.Whilst only a fool watches a Jackie Chan film for it's gripping plot, evenJackie's slow-paced, low-risk stunts could not justify the tragic,(possibly) unscripted, (verging on) unrelated events that fill the voidknown as The Medallion.I think as a rule, never include a red-faced over fifty year old Asianmandancing to the beach boys while cooking in your movie. And possibly contract an effects studio rather than your slightlyautisticfourteen year old nephew to do all your special effects.Perhaps the intention was a piece of post-modern art, where assortedscenesare taken from bad 1980s action films starring bad 1980s action actors. Ifindeed this is this is the case, then I completely retract my priorcomments, as Jackie's subtle and witty observations hit the nail right onthe head.
