No.... just no.

Okay, I love the series of The Lying Game, but I have watched 5 minutesof the TV series, and it isn't the same! First off, the two never meet.Second, Sutton is telling the story as already dead. Third, Emma isforced to become Sutton, or else she will be killed like her sister.Sutton also doesn't have a car. Her car was taken. Her sister drivesher everywhere. And Sutton's sister is also her age. ugh.... Why cantthey go by the books?! I wish they would just get it right!!!! I mean,She never met Ethan until towards the end of book one. And Ethan andSutton never dated. And she doesn't practice talking to the girlseither. And I don't remember the pool party. Laurel also has her owncar. And Nisha isn't met till Tennis. I'm surprised they even calledher Sutton. -.-

Fun Drama About, What Else, Wealthy Teens

"The Lying Game" is a solid cable offering that tracks the twists andturns of a fairly small group of teens and their immediate families.Naturally, these particular teens have outlandish issues that make them"interesting." A foster daughter who has a secret twin, girls with amissing mother, killer stalkers - you know, the usual stuff youprobably grew up with as well. Such "complications" are piled on top ofthe rote teen angst revolving around who is dating whom, the eternalphilosophical dilemma over whether a nice girl should date a sleazyclassmate just because he is rich and throws his father's money around(did Descartes have anything to say about that one?), and so on and soforth. To one girl, the only thing that matters is whether everyacquaintance or family member is punctilious about instantly "tellingthe truth," which includes completely dispelling all misunderstandings, gray areas and quibbles. Otherwise, of course, you are not Worthy. The girls casually walk around in high couture with elaborate hairdos, the teen guys have the sensitivity and panache of dapper 40-somethings,and everyone - wait for it - has a deep, dark secret. I know, no way! This includes the parents, who, perhaps uniquely for these types ofsoaps, are drawn as real people with problems of their own - thoughtheir problems tend to be just as eccentric and play out in the samemelodramatic way that the teens' problems do. Go figure. It is a fun, glitzy, "lifestyles of the rich and prep school crowd"show that has its deep, creaky roots in "90210" and those '90s KevinWilliamson movies. Layered on that is a more recent "Twilight" vibeminus the vampires, teens prowling around pursuing their own twistedagendas. If you seek a show where twins pull off the old switcheroopretending to be each other, with all the adults remaining absolutelyoblivious and all the teens in on it, well, look no further. The actors are serviceable, with most having to do little beyondlooking either seductive or hurt. You know, hurt as in "You lied to me!You are just like all the others!" and then flouncing out and pouting,or seductive as in "We need to convince the hidden but watching killerthat we're together, so kiss me NOW." Standouts are Alexandra Chando asthe lead (she plays the twins), and Charisma Carpenter, who was broughton in Episode 11 as Rebecca. Charisma turns out to be, well, I won'truin it here, but let's just say she also has, yes, a deep, darksecret. It is interesting that Charisma and Alexandra, IMHO, bear anuncanny resemblance to each other. Quite the coincidence. All right, so it isn't Dostoyevsky. But for its target audience, perhaps it rises to that entertainment level. I give it props foractually working the phrase "the lying game" into episodes, and forshowing attractive people in attractive settings. None of this isgroundbreaking, but you probably aren't going to tune in a show called"The Lying Game" if you are looking for some Nietzsche.I haven't read (or, to be truthful, heard of) the books. The showstands on its own for what it is, which is about the highest complimentI can pay it. If you miss Brandon, Kelly and the Peach Pit, this mightbe the show for you.

This show is amazing!!

If you like Pretty Little Iars then you'll love this, because it'sanother teen drama. I started watching this show because I was boredone night, and just wanted to try it out, but now I'm hooked!! The onlyproblem I do have with this show is that the whole concept of thisdaughter that you have raised for around 18 years vanishes, and hertwin takes her place, while she goes and looks for their mother. Now,you would think that the parents would recognize that that is not theirdaughter, because twins might look a lot a like, but if you know themwell enough, then you can always tell the difference between the two.Well, the parents don't and it's season 2 now, and they still don't!!I'm still giving this show 10 stars because it is fictional, and isreal, but still, sometimes I think to myself, what if my parents didn'trecognize me after raising me for almost 18 years???? I would stillrecommend watching it because it's really good, and it is fictional, sothey can make it however they want!

Horrid..............

I may be over-critical here..... but i think this show was awful!!!! Idevoured the books and loved them because they were slightly sinister, with a rather complex plot and various cliffhangers. I was veryunimpressed by the show, as a was with Pretty Little Liars (anotherseries I devoured). I can understand a little creative liberty, likewhen they showed Sutton meeting Emma, but the entire plot of the showseems to have to change. The series of books is about how poor Emmatries to find her long lost twin, but only finds that she is dead, andmore shockingly, that one of Sutton's friends killed her. It is alsoabout how she finds solace and help in the form of a guy the realSutton, whose life she was forced into by the killer, would never evertalk to. But now, the equivalent of that character was supposedlydating Sutton for months :( This show is just an awful disappointment, just like Pretty Little Liars.

A game filled with lier's

The lien game, Oh my gosh it is such a great show, to me. I Just lovehow it has so many secrets, and how you never know what's going tohappen next. And all the twist and turns. Like when the two who shallnot be named is find each other, they bond together, Switch places andthen turn on each other. How one sister kind of, sort of, stole hersisters boyfriend. And how it just took a little before the two wereturned apart. Oh and I just can't forget that finally, how one of thegirls was attacked and drove into a lake or what ever. Oh my God, Ijust can't wait until we see the next episode. Oh my God I just can notwhat. I guess you can say that it really is a game...Filled with lier's!

Pleasant surprise

I've checked the spoiler warning just to be safe, but there there'snothing really all that revealing in this review. At this time, only two episodes have aired. So, my opinion may changefurther down the road. You can prefix most of my opinions with "so far...". And, I'm going to leave off the star rating for now. When they advertised that this was by the same author as Pretty LittleLiars, I wasn't going to bother watching it. But, when I saw they wereairing both episodes in a row last week, I thought, "Ah, what theheck?". And, so far, I'm glad I did. The mystery is intriguing, and thewriting well thought-out. Unlike Pretty Little Liars, the show has onlyone main character who's POV we follow. I find this far better when thestory is a mystery with a lot of plot-twists. There may be someparental concern over certain plot elements, such as a pair ofotherwise-nice parents that are fully suspect in the mystery, anotherparent who's an alcoholic, and yet another parent (possilbly also analcoholic) who is a horrible bully. There is also one major protagonistwho's a bit of a 'mean girl', and the show paints a rather dismalpicture of the foster care system in Nevada. I find all of these farless of an issue for kids than certain elements of Pretty Little Liars, such as Aria's love interest. As I write this, there have been four other reviews, two positive, andtwo negative. I noted that the basis of both negative reviews isentirely how poorly the show follows the books. If this is important toyou, then you will probably be disappointed in the show. Otherwise, Ithink you'll find this one is worth giving a shot.

Got me hooked!

Pretty girls.Hot guys.Drama.Mystery.Suspense.A long lost twin.Could this get any better?! It's like a suspense-thriller version ofgossip girl. Who wouldn't like that? To me, sure the first episode iskinda slow....but i gave it another chance and watched it. Got me hooked right away!At the end of each episode am like, munching on my nails, wanting toknow what happens next! The suspense kills me!!The actress, Alexandra Chando, knows how to play both of her roles ofSutton and Emma really well. The story line is well planned out. Thescript is teen-understandable. All in all, I think it's a package!Gonna keep on following! :D

phd_travel 2012-05-02 21:25:20

Quite good - not as good as PLL but hope it makes it to season 2

This is pretty good. It's not as A List production wise and cast wiseas Pretty LIttle Liars but it's watchable. The mystery of the birthmother and the twins playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse keepsone hooked. The story is a bit dragged out and you kind of wish theissues got resolved sooner but it is good fun.The cast is a little bit B list looking. Alexandera Chando is a poorman's Nina Dobrev both in looks and acting ability. But she actsadequately. The kids of Alec, Thayer and his sister are a bitunattractive. The native American cast Blair Redford and Tyler Christopher are quitegood. The adults are quite good. It's nice to see Helen Slater backalthough she looks a bit long faced now. Adrian Pasdar is a goodvillain. Please bring it back for season 2. Got to find out what happens.

My first impressions of the Lying Game

Unlike some of the reviewers, I have not read any of the books, so Ihave started watching this series with no expectations. Since I wasalready a fan of Pretty Little Liars, I thought I would give this showa chance. I'm gland I did. I have seen the first three shows, and I'mhooked. I love the mystery and the characters. There are alreadycharacters I'm cheering for and characters I don't like. But even theones I don't like have added a richness to the show that makes it evenmore credible. All of the actors seem to be talented and there is achemistry that is a must for a show to succeed. I recommend the theLying Game. It looks as if you have one of the best shows of the newseason. Good luck.

Did not meet my expectations

I have loved the first 2 books in this series and was so excited forthis show... I was very disappointed, For me every episode gets worseand worse, I think the only thing that they took from the book was thename of the show and the name of the characters. I know the show isonly based on the books but literally nothing is from the book. Theycall the show "The Lying Game" but then never even "play" the lyinggame in the show! That is the main part of the books? Plus I have noidea where they are going with this whole finding Sutton and Emma'smother thing and the whole best friend has a sinister dad. I hope theycancel this after the second season, I had to stop watching becauseevery episode is torture.

skider 2012-04-28 10:01:16

Not really doing it for me.

The last episode I watched.. I was just shocked at how many things wereso dramatic, but in real life, nobody would care. I guess I just don'tbuy it at all. This girl like vanishes.. your wondering where she is..lol then boom. "Oh nothing happened, I just had a cellphone the wholetime and decided not to even call". Seriously? Who in this situationwouldn't even make a phone call. She has her twin sister posing as herwhen nobody knows she has a twin.. And she doesn't think it might be agood idea to respond to her? You lost me after that. The 4 out of 10 is because the actresses are all very hot, and they canact well.

higgythepiggy 2012-04-27 22:12:08

Who cares if it isn't like the books?!

I'd be pushing myself to say that this show is a ten but I'm so tiredof seeing posts about how this show is nothing like the books. You knowwhat? They sold the rights to make the show, deal with it! Gossip Girl& Pretty Little Liars did the same thing and just look how much thosebooks differ from the books (from what I've heard and read). If it werelike the books vertebrata then people would just buy the books. Ipersonally haven't read the books so it is easy for me to say that. This is about the SHOW not the books. My problems with the show:1) Why did it take us so long to figure out what a "lying game" was andwhy isn't that more incorporated into the show? The mid-season justaired in the USA & we still really have no real clue to how that allties into the story-line.2) As much as I'd love to love Alexandra Chando I'm having a hard timewith her acting as Emma. I just don't believe it. I like her as Suttonthough.3) We get it, the kids like to be romantic and it is all nice andbeautiful. I really don't need that much. Cut the romance stuff, thiscoming from a girly girl.4) GIVE ME SOME BACK STORY! It is killing me! (However it is alsokeeping me tuned in. ;D)5) It reminds me of a soap-opera for women between the ages of 14-25.(Funny enough that is another reason I am tuned in. I like over thetop. If it wasn't, then there really wouldn't be any story to tell andit wouldn't be as fun to watch.)What I personally like:1) Not going to lie, the only reason I stayed tuned in is because I saw"Ty" (Blair Redford) from "Switched at Birth" as Ethan. Yes, he's hot.Yes, he's a bad boy. I also have to give him credit where credit itearned, HE IS A GOOD ACTOR! Then I saw Alice Greczyn (Lincoln Heights),Kristen Prout (Kyle XY), Adrian Pasdar (HEROES!!!), Helen Slater(Gigantic) and Andy Buckley (The Office). I mean, come on! A cast likethat had to have signed on to something good.2) Not going to like, I like the drama, the teenage-esque problems andthe fashion.3) I honestly like the writing. To the person who said they wrotesimilar stories while they were in high school, then why don't you likethe show? And if you had then you'd be a famous screen writer nowwouldn't you? I like the cliff hangers. It makes me want to watch more. While my con list is longer than my pro list realize that aspects ofthe flaws are also some of my favorite things about the show. I saygive the show a shot. Great acting, great writing and I can see thingsgetting ironed out by the end of this season or by season two.10/19/2011

Don't tell my friends I watch this show!

I have secrets. I ate the last piece of blackberry pie and told myhubby it had started to mold so I had to throw it away. I dreamt aboutColin Firth as Mr. Darcy for months after watching Pride and Prejudiceand I watched all five seasons of The Guild in one day (pathetic, right?).But this show is all about secrets, big ones. Usually I don't like amystery that keeps building layers upon layers of revelations. Butthere is something about the characters, the mystery of Sutton andEmma's parentage that keeps me coming back for more.A lot of people have mentioned the main characters acting, but its theside characters that really keep the story afloat, in my opinion.First off, Sutton's sister, Laurel. She's adorable and her bristl-ysecond child veneer has a soft gooey center that pairs great withEmsa's (my lame attempt to merge the names, just go with it) bumblingattempt to fit into Sutton's family.Ethan - major hotness. The dude could just stand around flexing and I'dbe spellbound, but he's perfect as the secret bad boy boyfriend ofSutton.Suttons friends, Char, fragile, needy and slightly ditzy and Maddy, bitchy, strongwilled and hopelessly in love (predictably) with an olderguy.Thayer - I have to admit he came off kinda dorky at first, but he's gota lot going on in the brains department and he'll need it if he's goingto keep up with Sutton (she's wily).A few characters need to go, Nisha, evil bitchgirl at school who addsnothing to the story, at least so far, all she's done is make a coupleof cryptic comments and make out with guys on tennis courts. This mustbe the Mean Girls effect, seriously, the show has enough going onwithout adding high school drama to it.But overall, this show is addictive. I tune in each weak, excited tosee what will happen next. Will they find their biomom? Will they findout what Ted and Alec did to her? Why is Annie so crazy? What didEduardo know? Does Ethan really like Emsa? What about Laurel's newboyfriend, Hottie McGolden Hair? What about Char's new boyfriend? DoesSutton's mother know what Ted and Alec did? Why does Emsa keep flippingher hair??? I can't wait for next week.

Great Show, Lots of Suspense

It was a great show, so far of the 2 episodes I've seen. There'salready secrets just flying around everywhere. It's truly got mehooked. I'm sure Pretty Little Liars fans will love this one. It's anotherdrama which will keep you up at night with the mysteries. I've read the book too, and it's also spectacular. To all the peoplewho've read the book and give the show a bad review cause it doesn'trelate, don't just hate on the show cause there's no relation to thebook. It's stupid to give it a one-star review cause it's "nothing likethe book". Pretend you never read the book, get nothing to compare itto, and your opinion will change. Trust me.This show is amazing with all the elements of a teen drama: -PrettyGirls -Hot Guys -Secrets/Gossip I think "The Lying Game" has truly hitits target audience. The parents may not enjoy it, but trust me, theteens will. With fun humor and great mystery, this show is definitelyon my watch list.
