The Lizzie McGuire Movie

Teen queen Lizzie McGuire grows up a bit and hits the big screen in this comedy drama, based on the popular Disney Network series. Lizzie McGuire and her best friends Kate, Gordo, and Ethan have just graduated from middle school, and to celebrate, theyre taking part in a class trip to Rome, Italy. Eager to celebrate their new maturity as high school students, Lizzie and her pals hope to live it up in one of Europes most fabled cities, but fate has something more spectacular in store for Lizzie. Lizzie discovers that she bears a striking resemblance to Isabella, an Italian teen-pop idol famous for her duets with heart-throb Paolo -- so much so that when Paolo and Isabella have a falling out, he asks Lizzie to take Isabellas place for an upcoming concert. Lizzie, however, isnt sure she feels comfortable stepping into the spotlight, and is even less sure about the way she feels about Paolo, who makes no secret of his infatuation with her. Things dont get any simpler for Lizzie when her family gets wind of her newfound fame, and catch the next flight to Italy.

Fantastic family movie with depth and great writing

High Quality "big screen" translation of a TV concept! Ed Decter, andhis writing colleagues have done it again! Their seriously intelligentwriting, packed with lots of funny, interesting dialog, has transformeda popular TV icon into a great family film with lots of positivemessages, and no preachy delivery. Decter and Strauss remind me of the"old school" style of collaborative comedy writers, the kind thatresults in virtually virtually "no holes" in the plot, story or theviewers enjoyment. I don't know the Hollywood lingo, but the moviemoves smoothly and has a tight, clean feel to its dialog. In many ways,The Lizzie McGuire Movie is even better work than their insanelysuccessful "Something About Mary", as it relies more on characterdevelopment and depth, with insights into the younger generation thatare uncanny (and less on Farrelly Brothers style slapstick).Disney is lucky to have these guys working for them! Their work is inmany ways the "un-Disney" Disney movie. No formulas, no saccharine, just a good, fun story with a positive message that is delivered withaplomb and style.Hillary Duff's work is, in my humble opinion, her best yet in thisfilm, and the highly effective use of the classic "nerd/adult" RobertCarridine, again brings out the best in these sometimes under rated, and often pigeon holed actors.I am really looking forward to the next Santa Clause movie, as thefirst two simply blew me away with their quality of writing, productionand acting.I hope to see more work like this from the Decter/Strauss team.

Enough of Duff!!!

Two words: Bad Movie. It was what I expect from a Hilary Duff movie, and let me tell you, I wasn't expecting much. The movie was bad. Not terrible, but bad.The whole movie was about a girl who goes to Rome(?) for a some school trip or something, and winds up meeting some famous Italian boy singer who's partner left him. But amazingly, Lizzie McGuire looks exactly like her, so the boy wants her to be his partner. She accepts and then has to fake her way through doing the work she should be doing for school (Naughty girl!!) to secretly meet with that guy.I recommend these movies instead....What A Girl Wants (Amanda Bynes) PG.....Way better!!! A great girl-power story!Agent Cody Banks (Frankie Muniz) PG.....Not a girl story, but still awesome! Hilary Duff is in this one, but not as a main character.Miss Congeniality (Sandra Bullock) PG-13.....One of my favorites! About a tom-girl cop who investigates the Miss America Pageant by going undercover as contestant. Hilarious!

The Lizzie McGuire Movie

Although this movie was good, not great, mind you, but good, I felt that it was too different from the TV show to be about Lizzie McGuire. Lizzie's house wasn't the same, the charecters had changed, and the story was a bit unreal.I wouldn't highly recommend this movie, but if you like Lizzie McGuire, then I guess you might like it.P.S. I'm sorry if you don't have the same opinion as me, but please don't criticize me for it.

Lizzie Is GREAT!

Well I do have to say that I am certainly not a fan of Disney anymore due to the fact that he goes around suing public schools for stupid reasons. However, all personal opinions on that subject aside I do like Hilary Duff and I think for such a young girl she has amazing talent. A lot of people say that the plot was cheesy but I think it was easy enough to understand for the younger generation and I think it fit in with Disney's genre. Anyway, the only disappointment that I had in the movie was the basic time she didn't spend with Gordo. I know that the movie is all about her but I think she should have sneaked off with him a couple of times. Indeed my very favorite part was the concert part due to the fact that I think Hilary and Isabella shine the most in that scene and the music is also VERY catchy and I enjoy listening to it over and over again. So, great job Hilary!

May be a treat for young girls and older women, but others may find it too predictable

"The Lizzie McGuire Movie" is taken from the popular Disney Channelseries "Lizzie McGuire," which are the adventures of Lizzie; a girlgoing through all of the teenage stereotype problems, including:popular snobby girls, guys that everybody admires and parents whoembarrass you. This time, Lizzie and her group of friends travel to Paris, or someother place (I forgot what it was.) and Lizzie just happens to bear astriking resemblance to a famous singer. So, another famous singer(that just happens to be a guy that Lizzie admires) wants Lizzie topose as the singer she resembles. Then, near the end, the movie takes atwist, we finally get to the problem. This is a major flaw in the movie. the audience waits a long time untilwe finally get to the problem. The rest of the movie shows Lizziepreparing for the concert. I'm not so sure, but if she did well duringthe concert may have been the main conflict.Anyways, by the time we finally get to the dilemma, the movie becomessomewhat predictable. I remember my mother guessing the ending perhapsten minutes before the ending. She guessed right.Fans of this may enjoy the show "Lizzie McGuire," along with othermovies, such as: "Sleepover," "Raise Your Voice," "What a Girl Wants,""Miss Congeniality," "Legally Blonde" and "A Cinderella Story." Olderwomen will enjoy "Stepmom" and "Joy Luck Club." Anybody else (I'm notsure who) may enjoy "Memento," "Toy Story," "The Terminal," "MillionDollar Baby" and "Dark City." Good: Non-labored, will appeal to some women Bad: Predictable, clichéd, takes a long time to get to the dilemma, looks average Feel free to send me a Private Message regarding this comment.

Great Movie!

This is a wonderful movie. I'm not just saying this because I am a fan ofLizzie McGuire, but it is really good. But it is more geared towardtweens8-14. Hilary Duff (Lizzie McGuire) comes out differently. She's not asmucha clutzy teenager, she's more mature. Adam Lamburg (Gordo) has matured aswell, in the movie he really shows his feelings toward Lizzie. AshlieBrillaunt (Kate Sanders) befriends Lizzie and they actually get along.YaniGellman (Paolo) is a famous singer that Lizzie meets and ends up loving, after being confused as Isabella. Yani Gellman was in the Disney ChannelMovie "Tru Confessions" playing Bobby. Lalaine (Miranda Sanchez) was notinthis movie. Which was a dissapointment to me and other "Lizzie McGuire"fans.Over all this movie was a great movie. If you haven't seen it, please doso.

a dreadful film!

I got trapped on a bus in Mexico watching this trash. I could shut my eyesbut could not shut out the sound. What's wrong with the Lizzie McGuiremovie? The awful title, the songs completely unmemorable except for thelousy lyrics, annoying performances by American actors badly feigningforeign accents, a script as predictable and unbelievable as a cure-allmedicine label, a star drowning in CUTE. Disney spent a lot of money onthis hokum and they deserved to be laughed off the planet. I realize thatthis film was not made for people in my age bracket, but if 14-year-old kidsreally liked it, I despair for the aesthetic future of the humanrace.

Sweet, non-thinking fluff

God, I'm actually starting to like these kinda films! Along with Freaky Friday, and this, starring two up-and-coming actresses, Hilary Duff & Lindsay Lohan. Both evoke jealousy, as they're so pretty, with clear skin, and make all the guys go weak at the knees. If only life was this simple!Hilary Duff still isn't well-known in the UK, despite releasing a single that I can't even remember the name of - it didn't really set the charts alight. In fact, she never got to perform on any of the major music TV shows here. And the Lizzie McGuire TV show hasn't really appeared here either, although I did see a tiny clip of it today when I was flicking channels. So to say she hasn't made much of an impact here, is an understatement. So what better way to make an impact, than release a movie? Which is what she does! The movie has all the major characters from the TV series, so instantly you're lost, as the characters are so well-known in America, they don't bother to think about introductions, for the people who haven't seen the TV show. The only person who's really identifiable as being famous is Hilary Duff, but that's only because of her teen romance with Aaron Carter (younger brother of Nick, Backstreet Boys) a few years ago.The only other 'major' star in this is Alex Borstein (Miss Ungermeyer), who I had quite a bit of trouble placing. She hasn't really starred in that much, having bit parts in Friends and Coyote Ugly. So if you think you recognise her, you'll have to rack what little brains you have to realise who she is. I'll give you a clue - you know her voice better than you probably know her face! And you'll probably recognise her name more, due to seeing it in credits. She's only the voice(s) for Lois Griffin/Loretta/Tricia Takanawa/Barbara Pewterschmidt, to name but a few from Family Guy! Which I thought was pretty cool! What was best about this movie? The little alter-ego Lizzie cartoon interstitials, which are so funny! They're confusing to begin with, as they're probably a prominent part in the TV series. In this Hilary plays two people - Lizzie, and Isabella. Who are both exactly the same, except one is blonde, and one is brunette. When you see Isabella at the start of the movie, she doesn't look a thing like Hilary Duff, but that kinda changes towards the end.As far as I can tell, this was basically the swan-song for the TV series, which has since ended, and all the film is really doing is pushing Hilary as a singer. For a singer, she's OK, but not really anything special. She's blonde, she's pretty, she's American, she has clear skin, how many other singers do we know like that? So whereas she has an OK voice, she has to be a bit more unique, and try and get away from the Disney sweet as sugar image she has at the moment. This is a good film, to just sit and watch, and relax. Forget about all the stresses and strains of life. And have a good old moan about the fact that you can totally tell Hilary Duff is 'pasted' (for want of a better word) onto the Colosseum backdrop/starry sky.

Just... dumb

I am very forgiving towards non-intellectual movies. Usually, I justlike to have fun; brainless fun if need be. Fridays night will probablysee me watching Wayne's World and skipping Capturing the Friedmans. But this movie was simply unforgivable.I well understand the need of an implausible plot. If only there hadbeen a single plausible moment! The brother says he misses his sister,so the parents decide they will all go to Rome instead of explaining tohim that his sister will come back, and in the meantime he shouldrealize that there are ways of dealing with his feelings. Lizzie andPaulo frolic enough to fill a brochure, but it consists entirely ofLizzie grinning like she's dumb as dirt and saying things that addabsolutely nothing. Paulo has about twelve "dazzling smiles" for everyline of dialogue. It's hard to feel one way or the other about him, since we never get to know him as a character... except that he takes aliking to Lizzie to a preposterous degree. The ending "twist" barelyregisters as significant. The only two characters who make an impression are 1) Gordo, Lizzie's(VERY obviously) crushing just-friend who goes to depressing lengths tohelp Lizzie, considering all he ever gets in return is "Omigod! I feltso guilty! But I can't talk now!" and 2) Miss Ungermeyer, the allegedlydaunting teacher who is actually much more a sympathetic character thanbird-brained Lizzie. Alex Borstein and Adam Lamberg carry the film, providing its only truly funny and (relatively) authentic moments.Borstein is a delight to watch, and Lamberg is the one "good" characterthe viewer could actually root for.Overall, 2/10 for the actors mentioned (and because I loved the bitabout the Roman Forum).

A feel-good movie

This was a better movie than I expected. I'm not a huge fan of the show, butthe movie is nothing like it, in a good way. There were a few spoilers: #1Nobody seemed to notice that Isabella (Lizzie) had an American accent. #2Never in the TV show did it mention, and never did Kate ever tell Lizzie, that she didn't eat carbs, and #3, you'd think after the episode "Clue-less"when Kate gave Lizzie the whole 411 on Gordo having a crush on her, you'dthink she wouldn't be so shocked at his behavior. And #4, when she and Gordoare looking over the balcony, at the first headview, she has her hair in along ponytail. When you see her head for the second time, however, herhair's in a bun. This was a pretty good movie. Everyone should see itsometime. WHY NOT??

(SPOILERS) The TV show is better. MUCH better.

When I saw the previews for this movie, I was excited. I've been a fanof the television show on Disney that spawned the movie, and I find theshow to be funny, endearing, and all-around fun. But I was thoroughlydisappointed in the film. The television show, before Hilary Duff became a huge star, used to bewitty, charming, and intriguing. The characters were all relatable andwell-developed. Unfortunately, after Duff achieved her star status, theshow (and the film) went downhill.(Spoiler Alert! Skip over this section if you'd rather be surprised.)Overall, I found the movie to be a huge let-down. The opening scene isbasically credits and the title character, Lizzie McGuire (played byDuff), prancing around her bedroom singing a gratuitous cover ofBlondie's "The Tide Is High". Her brother, Matt (Jake Thomas), spies onher and tapes her horrid performance. Then Lizzie single-handedly ruins her junior-high graduation bytripping over balloons. Apparently, the class treasurer is importantenough to make a speech, which is how she got onto the stage in thefirst place. Also, somehow her school is important enough to bebroadcast on CNN.The next minute, she and a few other students and the principal, arewhisked off to Rome, Italy, for some reason. While on the trip, Lizziemeets a famous singer named Paolo, and things go from there. We encounter several montages of her riding with him on his Vespa (orwhatever it is), trying on clothes, learning to dance. It is all ratherboring and expendable. Then comes Duff's second role, Isabella. Duff is not believable andincredibly boring. Her Italian accent leaves much to be desired. Finally, at the end, we are forced through another needless musicalnumber. Then, back at the hotel, Lizzie and Gordo (Adam Lamberg) sharea kiss on the rooftop, and are on their way back home by the time tothe movie ends. The end.In my opinion, it is not worth the price of renting, buying, orwhatever you plan on paying for. The acting is marginal, the plot isstiff and leaves plenty of holes for the audience to fill in on theirown. The only thing I did enjoy was the soundtrack and the actress whoplayed Miss Ungermeyer.

Magnificient, Marvelous, and Wonderful

This Lizzie McGuire girl gots talent. I have always been a fan of her TV Show on Disney (I grew up watching Disney, at the age of 33, I still enjoy it every bit). The cartoon inhibition of Lizzie connects with the audience's inner self at so many levels. The best part of this movie is that Lizzie's immense talent in dancing and singing. Hilary Duff is what I called a mult-faceted talent; capable of acting, dancing and now SINGING! In this movie, we get to see two Hilary Duffs on the screen at once; if you ask me, put more HIlary on at once, I can never get enough of her talent! If there were really a Lizzie and Isabella, then this world would be perfect! The entire cast was great, the only part that gets me mad is that Marenda did not make it, this kind of ... because I wanted to see the entire Disney cast members. Next to King of the Hill, Lizzie McGuire is one of the best program on TV right now and the movie just takes it up a notch!

The Lizzie McGuire Movie is mindless, shallow fluff

And I LOVE it! Having followed the Lizzie McGuire series almost from dayone, I was anxious to see how well it would translate onto the big screen. Iwas not dissapointed one bit.Hilary Duff is her typically adorable self throughout the entire movie. Shetruly is the new Annette or Hayley Mills of this generation. Walt Disneywould be proud. The incredible chemistry Lizzie and Gordo have on the show is magnified toan even greater extent in the movie, and Adam Lamberg really shines in hisentirely underrated performance as Gordo. The film's treatment anddevelopment of Lizzie and Gordo's relationship is perfect for those of uswho have been following it for the past few years, and begs for furtherattention in a sequel (you just know there'll be one).Alex Borstein nearly steals the show with her hilarious performance as Ms.Ungermeyer; it would definitely be good to see her character appear infuture "Lizzie" properties. What little time was given to Robert Carradineand Hallie Todd as Lizzie's parents was excellent, as usual. Jake Thomas andCarly Schroeder as Matt and Melina were hilarious together, as well. Givethose two kids their own show. They're great! It was also nice to see themovie bring a little more "depth" and presence to the roles of Kate andEthan, two characters who have always deserved a little more attention thanthey have received.Of course the plot is predictable and shallow, but it works, and works well. And thankfully the wry wit and subtle humor of the show is brought out inforce in the movie. The acting may not be the greatest, but that's part ofthe appeal. These are seemingly normal, everyday kids that don't takethemselves too seriously, and it's fun to watch. The lively songs and poppy soundtrack fit the fun, breezy atmosphere of themovie quite well, and if part of a movie's duty is to serve as the launchingpoint of a teen queen's bubblegum pop career, this is the way to do it.Like the series, The Lizzie McGuire Movie is just good, wholesome, innocentfun that's clever enough to be entertaining for kids and (some) adults. Nowmore than ever, that's a great thing to see.

If only pigs could fly.

This movie was okay but at the end when Lizzie is singing What Dreams Are Made Of it's kind of unrealistic because Lizzie magicly knows this whole dance. Other than that the movie is okay.
