Looks great, even on HDTV

This review is from: The Jungle Book (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Platinum Edition) (DVD) Disney restored this classic perfectly. Since getting an HDTV and HD DVD player, I've found that most of my standard DVDs do not look so great...however, this one looks beautiful.

The jungle Book and Travelin Tyke

The video is absolutley timeless. Still holds up to todays music and animation even though it's over 30 years old. I HIGHLY reccommend this one for any children under 6. Has anyone seen the Travelin Tyke video yet??

This is one of Disney's TRUE MASTERPIECES!! My son, at just 3 years of age realized this was the BEST MOVIE of all time. He had me rewind it about 13 times a day. He absolutely couldn't get enough. I enjoyed it too.So....Do I need any big shot telling me that this is a great flick. NO...NO...NO... The opinion of my son and the millions of others who have grown up with this amazing cast of characters is quite enough, Thank You!!

This is absolutely the best animated film I have seen till date. The screenplay is so well written that you feel that its not a film but something which is happening right around you. The emotions...everything about it is just Super.

The jungle really gets to jumpin'.

Absolutely wonderful. The last animated feature supervised by WaltDisney. Based on the Rudyard Kipling story of Mowgli(voiced by thedirector's 12 yr old son Bruce Reitherman),a young boy found abandonedin a jungle in India. Mowgli is first raised by wolves before being putout on his own and his adventurous travel through the jungle to findthe human village. He learns the meaning of real friendship and trustfrom inhabitants of the jungle like, Baloo the bear(Voiced by PhilHarris); King Louie of the apes(voiced by Louis Prima)and the hypnoticsnake Kaa(voiced by Sterling Holloway). Then there is the wise pantherBagheera(voiced by Sebastion Cabot). Beautiful cinematography andbrilliant songs like "The Bare Necessities", "I Wan'na Be Like You","Trust in Me" and "That's What Friends Are For". There is plenty tomake you visit THE JUNGLE BOOK again and again. Fun for all ages. Othervoices you may or may not recognize: George Sanders, Verna Felton, LordTim Hudson and 8 yr old Clint Howard.

A bit rough, isn't it?

When I saw this movie first, I enjoyed it. It was funny, the animationwas good and the songs was enjoyable. Yet I must say that the movie isvery roughly based on the actual book by Rudyard Kipling, which is farbetter than the movie. If it stood to me, the actual story is far from a children's basicbedtime story. Many important factors was excluded from the movie, which I am very disappointed of. Kaa, who originally was a wise oldpython and one of Mowgli's best friends, was turned into a greasy badguy, helping out Shere Khan. It's almost like he took over the role ofTabaqui the jackal, who didn't appear in the movie at all. Akela,Raksha and the rest of the wolves, did hardly have any part in themovie, unlike in the book. Also, the originally smart, bold andrighteous Bagheera was completely out of character, and so was Baloothe bear. From a strict old teacher of the wolf pups, he turned into acarefree goof ball without any connection to the Seonee Pack at all. Isuppose that the added character King Louie, only was a comic relief.Of course, this is meant to be a children's movie, but still I was verydisappointed when I saw it as child. I just wish Disney had followedthe book more properly.I can recommend this movie to people who just wants to have mere funout of it (because this is a classic Disney movie, with a lot of fun!),but fans of the book shouldn't get their hopes up.

The Jungle VIP Returns!

Walt Disney's animated classic, "The Jungle Book," gets the platinumtreatment on its latest appearance on DVD. This wonderful tale, fullyrestored with vibrant colors and excellent audio, tells the story ofMowgli, a man-cub, and his black panther father-figure, Bagheera(Sebastian Cabot), as the latter attempts to get the boy back to theman-village where he belongs before the wicked and mighty tiger, ShereKhan (George Sanders), can get his claws into him. Along the way theymeet up with the one and only jungle VIP, King Louie (wonderfullyvoiced by Louis Prima), Kaa the python (Sterling Holloway), everybody'sfavorite bear, Baloo (Phil Harris) and some wisecracking vultures. Thisplatinum edition features an excellent digital restoration, a number ofexcellent documentaries, games, a visit with "Rocky the Rhino," whofound his way to the cutting room floor, and plenty of other extras. There's also a passable Jonas Brothers cover of Louis Prima's "I Wan'naBe Like You" that's sure to attract the attention of pre-teen girls theworld over. This particular DVD is also a Disney Movie Rewards disc, meaning that you can gain points for purchasing it. While some squabbleover the aspect ratio of the film, I think that the story, music, andcharacters are far too valuable to pass up because of this. If youdon't own "The Jungle Book" and consider yourself a Disney fan, makesure you buy this disc before Disney takes it away again. Highlyrecommended.

The Jungle Book (40th Anniversary Platinum Edition

This review is from: The Jungle Book (Two-Disc 40th Anniversary Platinum Edition) (DVD) This is a fun book and educational as well for children. It's an adventure-filled journey with Mowgli as he makes his way to the village with his panther friend. Meet King Louie, the hypnotic snake Kaa, and the bear Baloo. This is the last film to receive the Walt Disney personal touch. It's a well known classic and every child should start their library with this.

Brilliant Song, Brilliant Animals, Brilliant Film

What can I say about The Jungle Book? It probably has the best songs of anyDisney movie, it's full of wonderful animals such as Baloo the Bear and KingLouie the ape and it has a great little character in Mowgli who was raisedin the jungle (so I guess he's related to Tarzan). This is a great story throughout and the songs were just wonderful. When Ifirst watched this film I couldn't get the songs out of my head and justkept humming them to myself time after time. There's plenty of creatures for fans of animals from snakes to elephants toa big bad tiger called Shere Khan (one of the best Disney villainsever). For those who haven't seen The Jungle Book, may I suggest viewing it as soonas possible?

The Jungle Book

My purchase of this DVD was for replacement. For animation lovers, this one is terrific: vivid colors, attention to detail, well done. Of course, the story is loosely based on Rudyard Kipling's work, but entrancing to all. My children, both now in college, enjoyed this story while youngsters and still watch it every once in a while. The story weaves together friendship, love, good vs. bad -- all life messages. It is a good addition to animated movie collections.

The best Disney movie EVER

This was the last movie made by Walt Disney before he died. In my opinion this was his best. The music is incredibly rich .. jazz overtones and all ... the characters are colourful.Rudyard Kipling would be proud !!!!

Songs save a meandering effort surprisingly light on real thrills

The Walt Disney Company's 1967 animated film "The Jungle Book" is slightly stunted by a script which de-emphasizes the importance of drama and conflict. This is an ironic fault, as it should find its very purpose in the device of dramatic conflict.Featuring the voice talents of Phil Harris(Disney's "Robin Hood")as Baloo the Bear, as well as Sebastian Cabot and Bruce Reitherman as, respectively, Bagheera the Panther and Mowgli the Man-Cub the film is very loosely adapted from the work of Rudyard Kipling. The main fault of the movie is the lack of a sufficiently compelling storyline whilst Mowgli is in the jungle. Since we as an audience know that a happy ending in this case means getting him to the man-village, the movie is robbed of real suspense. However, Bagheera and Baloo's debates over Mowgli do add a spark to these proceedings. The film's main attractions are its songs. Including "The Bare Necessities" and "I Wanna Be Like You," the film's soundtrack also features an intriguing East Indian motif over the opening credits. Also featuring the voices of Sterling Holloway and George Saunders, "The Jungle Book" is entertaining but is surpassed by Disney's own "Tarzan," released thirty-two years later. Nevertheless, this is still passably fun.

The Jungle is JUMPIN'!

''The Jungle Book'' is one of my favorite movies from Disney. Untiltoday, I have the game to play and the tape from Disney. :) Anyway, this movie is based in''''Mowgli'' by Rudyard Kiplings, where a littleboy is raised by wolves in the forest. Mowgli is very happy with hisanimal family, until the day he needs to return to civilization becausehis life is in great danger: Shere Kahn, a big and evil tiger, hateshumans, and if he finds Mowgli in his way, he will not be afraid tokill the boy. During the way to reach the human village with Bagheera,Mowgli meets new animals and makes friendship with Baloo a big and fatbear who loves to have fun and has a bad reputation in the forestbecause of that.
