The Incredibles

Mr. Incredible is a superhero or he used to be, until a surge of lawsuits against superheroes submitted by the people theyve saved forced the government to hide them in witness protection programs so they could lead normal, anonymous lives. Now known exclusively by his secret identity, Bob Parr, he lives with his wife Helen, formerly Elastigirl, and their three children Violet, Dash, and Jack Jack. He works as an insurance claims specialist, and hes fed up with his pushy boss and his immoral profession, but his wifes worked too hard to build a normal life for her family to abide his nostalgia for heroism. When Mr. Incredibles offered the chance to play the role of hero again by a mysterious informant, he jumps at the opportunity, but when it turns out to be a trap set by an old nemesis he had a hand in corrupting, the whole family must reveal themselves to save Mr. Incredible and countless innocents. Incredible Movie

This was an excellent movie which had non-stop action and the story wasperfect. The actors did a terrific job doing the voice-overs on thecharacters and you couldn't ask for anything better. I really likedMrs. Hogenson because she was really funny and she kind of added morehumor to the movie. My favorite superheroes in this movie wouldprobably be Mr. Incredible just because the way he can lift just aboutanything he puts his hands on. I really liked Dash as well because ofthe running ability that he has and I think that it would be a coolspecialty to have as a superhero. Overall great movie and I'm hopingthat they will make an Incredibles 2 and that would be wonderful ifthey did. Don't miss out on this fun movie.

A Good Movie

I like superhero movies in general, and I will admit there is alot of junk out there. This movie is not junk. There is a great blend of action, comedy, and drama. The comedy usually involve the Supers use of their powers. There is a great part right at the beginning where Mr. Incredible gets a cat out of a tree by uprooting the tree and shaking it till the cat lets go. The comic parts are good enough that both parents and children should get them. The action is what you would expect. The bad guys have minions with automatic weapons and a big evil robot. There are some really good scenes where the children are figuring out just how they can use their powers to battle evil. The bad guys do die. The deaths aren't graphic. One minion is in a flying machine that hits a mountainside and explodes. You don't see him die but an adult can figure it out, but a child wouldn't notice. So if you have a problem with this don't buy it for your kid. I don't see the problem, but it's fine if you do. The drama has to do with people with Super powers living in a world where they have to hide what they are and live without ever using their powers. The idea that people with special abilities are special and should be allowed to outshine everyone else is very Ayn Randish and I enjoyed the conflict it created when the characters weren't allowed to be themselves. If you've seen the movie already you should buy this for the special features. The Short "Jak-Jak Attack" shows what happened to the baby sitter when the baby starts using his powers for the first time; it's hillarious. There is also a cool section where you can see the profiles of many different supers including strengths, weaknesses, and personality quirks.

Lives up to its name BIG TIME!

As good as any of the Pixar movies, and that is very, very good. Thisfilm is consistently laugh-out-loud funny, incredibly entertaining, and, like the other Pixar features, loaded to the gills with in-jokes.I can't wait for this movie to come out on DVD! The artists at Pixarjust get better with every movie they make. All of the characters areinfused with so much personality you forget you're watching an animatedfilm, just like all of Pixar's films. I haven't read the other reviews, but did anyone else notice that the costume designer Edna is based onEdith Head?By the way, tfrizzell should have mentioned the spoiler in his review.

Good!!!

Very good movie!!!I like It very much. Before I watch It I don't believethat's a good movie but when I watch It I change my opinion. It has verygood effects and very fantasy. In these years were made very movies likethis and some of them aren't so good. It's funny in the most moments andhas hidden message.I read It like "The weak can be powerful and thepowerful can be weak." I'm not sure...maybe I see It just because Ihave a very big fantasy.I hope Brad Bird make another episode of "TheIncredibles".I vote with 8 because the movie is little overburdened andhas to many superfluous emotions.I think that's stupid for a movie likethis but I'm glad that I watch It.I hope You enjoy It like me.It's veryfun.

transforms animation into the future

One of the best action films I've seen in a long time. I've read manysuggestions that it is borrows from Spy Kids, James Bond, and Raidersof the Lost Ark. Yes. Yes. And yes. But personally, I thoughtdifferently. Remarkably, I had the same response to this film as I hadwhen I first saw Star Wars. For those of you who have seen this movie, your response to that statement might be, "huh?" Let me explain. When Ioriginally saw Star Wars, several things happened: first , I wasabsorbed into a world so different than my own, but when all was saidand done , it became as real as anything I've ever experienced.Secondly, we all knew then and there that this was the future ofspecial effects. Thirdly, be it ultra cool Han Solo; wanna be heroLuke; or uber-female Princess Leia, many people could identify with thecharacters. This film transforms animation, like Star Wars did for it'sgenre, from the present into the future. It does so because everyoneinvolved aspires to excellence. They succeed by creating animatedlandscapes incredibly rich in detail, by developing movement and actionthat is, at times, simply exhilarating, and by brilliant "acting" sorich with nuance, humor, and emotion that voice and drawing merges intoa full fledged human. In fact, when I think about it, other thanHarrison Ford, the one lingering difference between Star Wars and thisfilm , other than the obvious - plot, was that the acting was better inthis film. If you saw Star Wars ... and you did ... you saw the futureof science fiction. If you see this film, you will see the future ofanimation. And the force is with them both.

GRRRRREAT!!!!

This movie is fantastic! Great direction, great script, greatanimation, great cast of characters! Considering how there has been aspew of family superhero films out there, this animated one is quiteremarkable! And I think it works exceedingly well because it doesn'tthrow you into a mighty morphin mindset-- don't get me wrong I love themighty morphin power rangers, especially the black ranger!)-- but backto this, the live people playing superheroes bit is getting old again. The new CGIs do a much terrific job, and the Incredibles is a case inpoint. Bottom line, I left the movie theater wanting to see the nextIncredibles movie. Even though this is a family friendly movie, thereare a lot of explosions and somberness going on; but all in all, thismovie has heart, comedy, and fun all rolled into two hours ofincredible entertainment!

I hate to sound cliché but this truly is an incredible movie.

"The Incredibles" is fun, entertaining, visual splendid and it has somegreat action sequences. The power of this movie is in its great timing and solid maincharacters. The voice cast consists, unlike many other animated moviesout of actors that are not 'hot' at the moment. Craig T. Nelson andHolly Hunter are not exactly popular actors, that will draw lots ofpeople to the theaters when you put their names on a poster. That's notwhy they were cast, they were just simply cast because they have greatvoices. I've always liked Holly Hunter's voice and accent and it wasgreat to finally hear her in an animated movie. The rest of the castmainly consists out of people that made their debut with this movie(Except for Samuel L. Jackson and Jason Lee of course.). Kudos to that,I'm sure they could had attached some big 'hot' names to this projectbut they went for quality and the best instead of for the most popular.OK the story ain't exactly anything special but the main characters andfun feeling of the movie compensates for this. Also the actionsequences know to impress. The action sequences feel like you're rightin the middle of playing a computer game. The movie is entertaining and fun, what more could you ask for?Quite probably the most entertaining movie of 2004.8/10http://bobafett1138.blogspot.com/

Love it!!

I am not an animation fan, but after I watched 'The Incrediblesspecials' on TV, I just had to go to the cinema immediately... and itwas even better than my expectations!! I love this film!! I almostforgotten that it was an animation when I was watching it and Iwas very moved by the bond between the characters. Beforewatching this, my favourite animations were 'Toy Stories 1 & 2' and 'Spirited away', but now I will have to put this before the 2 ToyStories. I don't really understand why there are viewers whocomplaint that this film is boring and slow... I actually found itquitethe opposite. The storyline may not be the most original, but thedialogue was witty, intelligent and not too cute nor corny; theanimation was quite realistic and colourful but the best thing of allwas its ability to make the viewers sympathize with the characters.I especially like the part when they were hiding their secretidentities, living in the suburbs and trying to live like any normalfamilies...and they even had fights and disagreements like otherfamilies, it just makes them seem so 'real' and 'humane'. To me,this is not just another cute animation for kids, it's an intelligentand fun animation for adults too. I highly recommend this to film/movie lovers!

From Retirment to Going back into Action by Force

The latest masterpiece from Walt Disney and Pixar was unquestionably tosay the least "SO INCREDIBLE!!" Robert "Bob" Parr (Craig T. Nelson)was once known as the world greatestsuperhero "MR. INCREDIBLE" fighting evil as well as crime on a dailybasis. His wife Helen Parr (Holly Hunter)was also one of the world'sgreatest superheros as well: "ELASTIGIRL". Then you have Lucius Bestalias "FROZONE" (Samuel L. Jackson) another great superhero consideredto be cool and wild. But it's not long until a string full of lawsuitsforces them to give up their costumes and enter the government'ssuperhero relocation program where they're to live normal lives amongtoday's citizens. Now Fifteen years later, Bob and Helen are now livingin the suburban neighborhood raising a family of three children: Dash,Violet and Jack-Jack Parr. Bob wants nothing more than to relive theglory days as Mr. Incredible because whenever someone's in trouble, there's nothing he or anyone can do about it. Then one day he gets amysterious communication from a secret agent to spring back into actionwhich he reluctantly accepts and from there it's "Showtime!". But whenhe arrives, he is shocked to discover that the whole assignment was atrap set by a nemesis from his past: his ex-biggest fan Buddy Pine(Jason Lee) who calls himself Syndrome. After Helen discovers thetruth, she has no choice but to return to her former superhero life asElastigirl and rescue her husband. Along with the super speeding Dashand the invisible yet tricky Violet, the family must come together andsave the world from Syndrome if they are to stop him from becoming ahero as he plans to fake to be one just by eliminating a high techweapon only HE can defeat. In the end, the Parr family learn that whenit comes to saving the world, they can never abandon their true selvesno matter what. There are so many elements this movie represents such as family, loyalty, yearning for another chance to be who you once were. But inthe end, you come to cope with being who you are and who you want tobe. In short, the story was excellent, the 3-D computer animation wascompletely awesome and the movie itself was truly, accuratelyINCREDIBLE!! I highly recommend it to all those who have not yet seenit.

Incredible!

This is an Incredible movie! So different from any other super hero movie i've seen! Mr.Incredible, his power is strength, his wife Elastigirl, can stretch to the moon and beyond, Violet, his daughter, invisibility, and force fields, Dash, can run so fast, he can put a tack on the teachers chair DURING class! And Jack-Jack, the baby, has no powers, or so they think. Every single one of these characters is hilarious! Edna, the costume designer, Syndrome, the enemy, Frozone, Mr. Incredible's best friend, Mirage, a spy, and more characters! This is a wonderful family movie! And though kids might not get the story line, who needs to? The Incredible's will have you in stitches all 105 minutes. So got your popcorn? Enjoy!!

Twice the hero he used to be...

I remember to be expecting to watch ''The Incredibles'' since the firsttime I watched the trailer in the movie theater; and I also can saythat I was not disappointed when I watched it. This movie is very cool! Many years ago,Bob Parr and Helen Parr were famous heroes that helpedto save their nation, being known as ''Mr. Incredible'' and''Elastigirl''.And they were not the only ones: many other heroes alsoworked with them, one of them 'Frozone'(normal name: Lucius Best) Mr.Incredible's best friend. But the time was passing, and things werechanging: many people were unhappy with the heroes, seeing theirefforts to help as a threat instead of a good thing. Soon thegovernment asked the heroes to retire their 'uniforms'and act likeregular citizens. That's the main base about 'The Incredibles', showingthe life of Bob, Helen Parr and their kids trying to fit as 'regularpeople', trying to avoid their powers. Until a destroying plan of a guyof Bob's past comes to action..

A Nutshell Review: The Incredibles

When I heard about the production, I wondered if it touched too closeto Marvel's Fantastic Four, another superhero family of sorts - MrFantastic, with stretch powers, The Invisible Girl and Human Torch, self explanatory, and The Thing, with extraordinary strength. Even thevillain at the end looked suspiciously like Fantastic Four's Moleman! And yes, though the powers are slightly different, the bickering, interaction and relationships amongst the members are retained in thestoryline. Which works, wonders. Pixar has done it again, weaving strongcharacterization into their superhero storyline, with each familymember having problems of their own, and tying it very nicely to theirpowers. Mr Incredible, being super strong, realizes his ownvulnerability, Elastigirl using her powers to literally run andmaintain the family, Violet with her powers of invisibility to hide herinsecurity, and Dash, being young and eager to flaunt his powers ofspeed. And any show which ties in huge doses of humour effectively willdefinitely win the crowd over, not to mention the strong supportingcast of Frozone (long lost cousin of Iceman?) and Edna, the suitdesigner. (I rate the scene between Elastigirl and Edna one of the bestin the show)Can't wait for the sequel (well, they did Toy Story II, didn't they?)to see if Jack Jack gets more screen time!

Gordon-11 2012-05-12 01:19:55

Its popularity is well justified

This is an animation film about lost heroes resuming their serviceagain to stop evil plots being implemented.I think the runaway success of this film is that the film's lead heroesare very everyday. The family is portrayed to be heroes who have hadtheir glorious days but got disgraced because of a series of negativeincidents. They then choose to have a family life and stay away fromthe limelight. They are reluctant to use their supernatural powers, andonly uses them when the situation gets out of hand. This key point isradically different to most superhero movies, where the heroes havealways been glorious heroes and will forever be glorious heroes. Inthis movie, the heroes fall and then rise back up again, creating apositive message for kids.Apart from this fundamental difference from other superhero movies, italso has a great story. It also has cute and attractive animation. Thisfilm really deserves the attention and praise, and cannot simply beattributed to be popular because it is an animation.

THIS IS COOL!

On the second disc, there's a short film called Jack-Jack attack!! You can find out what Jack-Jack's powers are. Also, on behind the scenes, if you select Vowellett--A short essay by Sarah Vowell, not only do you see an interview of the person who plays Violet, but you also get a small scene that is pretty funny.

Absolutely Incredible

Wow. This isn't just the best animated movie I've seen in a long time;it's one of the best movies, period. For sheer giddy enjoyment, stunning visuals, engaging characters. When the industry makes filmswith this much action and special-effects wizardry and a couple ofbig-name faces up front, they generally don't spend money on nicetieslike writing and character development. But Pixar, since they havesomething to prove with their computer-generated actors, has done thehard and loving work to infuse these cartoon characters with a humanitythat most big-budget live-action movies don't match. Go see this one.Go see it for:Visuals. There is a reality to this picture that hasn't been present inprevious feature-length CG movies. Hair, foliage, rust, water-all areexecuted very convincingly. You know these characters aren't humanbeings, but it's hard to believe that they aren't somehow real.Acting. The voice work is excellent, particularly Holly Hunter andCraig T. Nelson. The animators have done a great job capturing thesubtleties of those performances in the motions of the on-screenavatars. If you saw the ill-fated Final Fantasy movie (of technicalinterest only, not really for the general public)-these cartoonishcharacters don't look as real, but they seem much more human.Bond References. There is an secret lair in this movie the likes ofwhich Dr. No and Blofeld could only dream. Every Bond homage is pitchperfect, and we found ourselves laughing in an otherwise quiet theatreat the wonderful invention of the production design. Hey, we're moviegeeks; apparently the others weren't. This movie is worth ten bucks forthe modern architecture alone.Edna Mode. This character is the manic love child of 007's "Q" andEdith Head, and will surely be remembered as one of the great animatedcharacters. She is voiced by the director, Brad Bird.I know I'm not exactly going our on a limb here; the Tomatometer shows96% as of this writing. But I wanted to see this movie again as soon asI left the theatre.Notes: This one is for older kids and adults, as the PG ratingindicates. There are no "outtakes" in the end credits. (Anti-spoiler?)

A little overrated but still good

For the record, let me just say that I still like this movie a lot butI don't think it deserves to be in the top. Its just that its nottop250 material. The movie is about superheroes and all the basic hero abilities arethere like superstrenght, flexibility, superspeed, force field, invisibility and shooting ice. I hoped to see a fireshooter too but notthis time. But all the others are there so I'm not complaining. Why it doesn't deserve a spot in the top250 is because.. it doesn'thave that X factor that makes me like this movie. But since this is inthe top, I think a lot of people still like it, so its a good movie. Irated it 8/10 so that means its above average(average would be 6/7 forme).

Pixar has done it again.

Pixar has done it again. I was wondering when they would make a badcomputer animated movie, but it hasn't happened yet. This movie is justamazing. It is both funny and sweet. I think all families willrecognize the problems that this animated family are having. You have afamily that all have super powers, you have a villain and a secretisland somewhere in the world. How can you go wrong with this? Clearlyyou can't cause this movie, because although it is 115 minutes long, itis still entertaining and I didn't feel like I was watching a two hourmovie. There are comic references to both the young audience and forthe adult audience and it is mixed beautifully. As far as I know, thisis the first time that there has been an animated movie about a familythat are human. So that is pretty interesting. The other thing thatreally caught my attention was how they did the hair for the youngdaughter. It looked really lifelike. So will you enjoy this movie? Wellif you like the other movies in this genre; Toy Story, Ice Age, Shrekand Finding Nemo, yes you will absolutely love this one. I rate thismovie 9/10

The Incredibles not only have the name, they have the game

Comic book superheroes are basically vigilantes who usually operate outside the law, although certainly many of them have associations with law enforcement authorities (e.g., Batman the Batsignal, Hellboy and the F.B.I.). Some of the best comic book stories of recent years, such as Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight Returns" and Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons' "Watchmen," have explored the idea of what happens when society decides to get rid of its superheroes. Actually, they have dealt with what happens when the banned superheroes come back, which is the subject of Pixar's latest triumph, "The Incredibles." The difference, of course, is that whereas "The Dark Knight Returns" is tragedy, "The Incredibles" is more of a farce. Besides, whereas Batman has pseudo-familial relationships with Alfred and the latest Robin, the Incredibles are a two-generation family of superheroes. We begin before the end for the superheroes of this world as once again they are called upon to save the day. But this is a world where no good deed goes unpunished because there is always a lawyer around to make sure of that. The next thing we know, we have jumped ahead to a world without superheroes, or, more specifically, a world in which superheroes are trying to live ordinary lives. But Bob Parr a.k.a. Mr. Incredible (voice of Craig T. Nelson) is having a hard time because there are just so many good deeds out there begging to be done and people to be rescued from burning buildings. Meanwhile, his wife Helen a.k.a. Elastigirl (Holly Hunter) is trying to lead a normal life raising their three paranormal children, Violet (Sarah Vowell), Dash (Spencer Fox), and baby Jack Jack (Elie Fucile & Maeve Andrews). On "Bowling night" Bob and his best friend Lucius Best a.k.a. Frozone (Samuel L. Jackson) sit around and talk about the good old days, and sometimes engage in a little undercover superhero work. This has not gone unnoticed and when Bob learns that there may be a place for Mr. Incredible in the new world order, complete with a new costume courtesy of Edna 'E' Mode, he is more than willing. Now, all he has to do is hide his new "job" from his suspicious wife. Meanwhile, just because the superheroes have all been retired does not mean that the villains are playing by the same rules. As Mr. Incredible points out at the start of the film, "No matter how many times you save the world, it always manages to get back in jeopardy again."The superpowers of the characters in "The Incredibles" are pretty basic. Mr. Incredible is basically Superman stripped down to strength and invulnerability (or Wonder Man if you read Marvel instead of DC), Elastigirl is a female version of Plastic Man/Mr. Fantastic, Violet has both of the Invisible Girl's powers (i.e., Invisible Kid + Kid Psycho), Dash is super fast like the Flash/Quicksilver, and Frozon is Ice Man without turning into a walking icicle. As for Jack Jack, let us just say that the final report on the tyke is not in yet (i.e., Franklin Richards squared). Director Brad Bird has parlayed his traditional animation efforts "Family Dog" and "The Iron Giant" into this computer animated Pixar film. "The Incredibles" avoids the question of where did the first generation of superheroes come from, so there is no concern with visitors from a strange planet or bites from radioactive spiders, and few will ponder the reproductive niceties of Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl reproducing (remembering the "Elsewhere" story where Lois Lane died when the superbaby started kicking will help sober you up). Bird keeps the rules simple, you accept the premise, and go along for the ride. The key thing about this ride is that it is both fast paced and creative. My favorite sequence is when the family is in danger and Violet needs to step up to the plate and use her powers or else they are all going to be dead. You know what is supposed to happen at this point, but it does not happen, and if you do not end up thinking that Elastigirl is the most competent superhero in this film then you are just not paying attention. I also liked the discussion on villains "monologuing" (remember the "SNL" panel discussion involving James Bond villains?) and the jump cut on the car toss scene at the end was very cool as well. "The Incredibles" is, of course, a comedy, but it takes itself seriously, which is why it ended up being rated PG and why this one is a keeper for comic book fans of all ages.

Spend a day with 'The Incredibles'

Few things in the world of DVDs are more predictable than making-of featurettes. Pixar, the 3-D animation outfit that loves to think different, does so in the making-of content for "The Incredibles." Energetic, visually adventurous and surprisingly edgy, the half-hour docu directed by Rick Butler distills the story behind the hit film about a family of undercover superheroes -- and unmasks the offbeat gang at Pixar that made it happen.Listen in: "Businessmen hate the film business" because they're gambling, not making widgets, producer John Walker says. Writer-director Brad Bird, an outsider, was "a strong cup of coffee" to deal with, one Pixar staffer reports with a nervous laugh. Bird says he was brought into Pixar because it really needed to be "shaken up a bit" -- and the Randy Newman music really had to go. Budget-minder Walker complains, "Whoever thought of making movies this way is out of his mind." Downright subversive by making-of standards. The docu is backed by an unusual "more making-of" section that tops 40 minutes, with chapters allowing viewers to pursue their interests, such as story development, lighting, sets or music. That's just the tip of Frozone's iceberg on the double-disc DVD of "The Incredibles." Most of the content is worthwhile and non-repetitive. With the double commentaries mixed in, fans could kill a day taking in the extras. Or just a fulfilling half hour with the making-of. The Oscar-winning CG feature looks sensational in its pure digital-domain visuals. The letterboxed images set at an aspect ratio of 2.35:1 keep the action tight (avoid the full-screen version). The 5.1 Dolby Digital sound boasts EX encoding and has plenty of punch, but as is typical with Disney-related DVDs, the rear soundstage feels a bit underused. One must-see extra is the lengthy black-and-white animatic of Bird's original opening, considerably darker than the finished intro. Like other bits in the movie, it feels like Sean Connery-era 007. The docu crew caught Bird and producer Walker testily doing battle over finances and creative priorities, but they'd made up by the time their commentary was recorded, just before the film was released. The men speculate about reaction to "The Incredibles," but, c'mon, they knew it was in the bag.A second group commentary with animators digs deep into animation theory and CG processes. Some of the illustrators Bird brought with him reflect on making the transition from traditional ("2-D") work to 3-D. The commentary menu contains an animated Easter egg, as do most of the other menus (wait out the music; watch for little creatures).Other winning extras include a DVD-exclusive short featuring the cute-but-creepy baby and his panicked babysitter; the theatrical toon "Boundin' " with a fun talk from its folksy creator; a handful of segments on the way-cool retro score and its old-school recording process (actual musicians playing live, without computers!); and a faux-dated TV cartoon featuring Mr. Incredible and Frozone, who do a commentary but can't believe how stupid the episode is. Feel free to skip the character sit-downs with TV interviewers and the grating live short featuring the young woman who voices Violet Parr.

This Movie should have won Best Picture!

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Pixar does it again a wholesome family film that both the kids and adults will enjoy. It would be so easy to fall into typical movie plot lines with this movie, but it does not. It is a great mixture of action, comedy, and family values (without being preachy).
