After an accident in a tunnel, a forensics expert is left as a quadriplegic who is able only to move his head and one finger. Setting his finger to a computer, he is able to manipulate his environment with the help of a loving nurse. Even so, fearing seizures that could leave him a vegetable, he plans his transition with the help of a hesitational doctor friend. That all changes when he is confronted with clues from a serial killer that obviously are pointed to forensics investigation. The case clearly re-invokes his interest in life. A sharp, young cops quick thinking saves the first crime scene. Recognizing her talent for forensics, he brings her unwillingly into forensics detection. Through radio contact, she becomes his eyes and legs on the scene. Michael Rooker also appears as the police captain, who has bungled earlier killings by the serial killer and is more interested in the press than in good police work. Ed ONeill and Luis Guzman are support staff who aid Washington and run interference with Rooker.

We have taken some photos of "The Bone Collector". They represent actual movie quality.
They say that when the economy is good and the world is at peace that wehave an urge to indulge in the darker side in our fantasies. Thus, 1999 hasbeen one terrific year for spooky movies. It all started with "Sixth Sense"and will end with a bang with "End of Days" and "Sleepy Hollow". Poor "BoneCollector" kind of gets lost in the shuffle, a mediocre attempt at horrorthat entertains, but lasts in memory just about the length of time that ittakes the hero to solve a murder mystery (and that is not toolong). The hero is played by Denzel Washington and he is the bright ray of sunshinein an otherwise dim bulb of a movie. He plays a quadraplegic who wasformerly the top homicide detective in the NYPD. He is in a state of deepdepression about his condition and has lost the will to live. But then aprominent couple is kidnapped and a lady streetcop happen upon the murderscene of the husband and Denzel is suddenly back on the job, his curiousitypiqued once more. When he gets a full forensic team in his apartment to aidhim and he is solving murders on a moment-to-moment basis, the movie getsexciting.I had a friend who would not go to this movie, because he said he figured itwould be too gory. In my opinion it was not gory enough when you considerthe bizarre way that some of these murders took place. If I had been themakeup artist, there would have been some horrific corpses, but here I thinkit was toned down so as not to offend. (Think of "Seven" as an example ofhow it SHOULD be handled.) As for the acting, I think that Queen Latifahdid a great job as the nurse, but that Angelica Jolie was woefully miscastas the lady cop. (At least they tried to explain her beauty a little bit,but it still did not equate that a girl that looks like that would give upmodeling to become a street cop, even if her father HAD been on theforce.)To sum it up, I would say to go see this movie if you have seen everythingout there that's better or better still, wait till you can rent it.
I found this movie to be classically directed, it certainly kept me guessing right to the end. The only down side to this movie was that it managed to keep the suspense going through a large duration, not giving the viewer an opportunity to think out who the taxi driver was. So whodunnit, you will just have to see it for yourself. Denzel was excellent, considering he was only able to move his left index finger and speak.
The Bone Collector is a good who done it/ serial killer movie but it ruinsthe whole thing because of the ending!! Beware you will be disappointed.Denzel Washington is very good as he always is and Angelia Jole issatisfactory but their chemisty could have been better. Some scenes aredisturbing because of the way the victims die but overall it makes you wantto know who the killer is.PLOT: Denzel Washington is a cop who broke his spine in an accident andcan't move from his bed. There is a serial killer in the city and Denzelgets Angelia Jole, another cop to help him solve the crime before thekillercan kill again.VIEWS: If you like Silence of the Lambs you will like this movie or compareit to it. Also, the movie makes you think but the moment when you find whothe killer is will disappoint you.SCENES TO WATCH FOR: Just watch and look for clues.
This show is the best show you will ever see. It is so suspenseful, you'reonyour seat every second of the show.It isnt one of those Halloween typeshowsthat scare the hell out of you either. Denzel is at his best in this show.Youmust rent this show.
This is a great movie for those of us who don't like the horry - gorry! And don't need to disect a film to enjoy.Denzel Washington gave a great performance [like to see the critics give as credible a job.]Had enought tension and twists to keep you guessing and hate to admit it but loved the take down.It keeps one interested enough to want to follow the steps even after 3 viewings -- not enough good solid movies out there that don't get interupted by some unsavory nude scene to spoil the whole attitude of the movie. Thanks for a really good movie -- it is Highly Recommended.
This review is from: The Bone Collector (Amazon Instant Video) The Bone Collector was an excellent resource in my chemistry class during a unit on Forensic Science. My students enjoyed watching how a crime scene is investigated.
This review is from: The Bone Collector [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) A very good film 2 of the best actors together it gets a 5 of 5 looks and sounds great
This was a typical cop versus serial killer movie. Washington deserves abetter platform. The only surprise was who the killer was and that was notmuch of a surprise. Much to much gore for my liking. This format has beenthe content of many TV series, I doubt if you will see this movie get anyawards or any of the actors.
It was a great pleasure reading the book, I just couldnot put the book down and it held my interest completely. Denzel Washington(Lincoln Rhyme) put his heart and soul into this character, layingcompletely on his back, he was able to use facial expressions and pinkyfingers to capture your attention. He also had a very sexy eye contact withAngelina Jolie (Amelia Donaghy)and their acting was like an explosionbetween the two of them, even with Denzel completely unable to do anythingbut LOOK! If you love Denzel Washington, you will want to definitely ownthis DVD and even buy the book!
This review is from: The Bone Collector [HD DVD] (HD DVD) I cannot comment on the the film. It would not play in any of my three DVD players and two computers.
This is one of my favourite movies against the Negotiator. Great thriller that I would reccomend everyone to watch. I can't believe the average rating on this site is only 3 for this movie. Are we talking about the same movie? The Green mile is also a excellant movie if you enjoyed the Bone Collector.5++Regards
Denzel Washington plays ex-cop Lincoln Rhyme, who had an accident in a tunnell and is now almost-paralyzed. When Lincoln hears about a strange taxi-murderer, he asks super-smart police gal Amelia Donaghy (Angelina Jolie) to take the case. She relucatantly agrees, and now it is up to her and the un-movable Lincoln to discover the face behind the mysterious murder mask. The Bone Collector has a bunch of great performances, Angelina Jolie is the real highlight, she is amazingly real (AGAIN) as Amelia, but Washington and Queen Lafitah are equally watchable. The screenplay is incredibly clever, and this film is never slow or boring. This movie is does have problems, yes, but the faults can't overtake the cleverness and substance in this entertaining mystery.
is the one word to describe this flick with Denzel Washington (who turns ina mighty good performance) and Angelina Jolie (another fine performance). Iliked the film because it had such a heavy NYC backdrop (although I see thatpart of it was filmed in Montreal?). The story is solid, the acting exellent. Rent this video!
The Bone Collector is a nice little thriller with sharp direction byPhillpNoyce. Denzel Washngtion is once again great in the lead role of LincolinRyme and always Angelina Jolie is very sexy. The script and cinematographyare very good and the revelation of the killer is a nicesurpise.
I can still remember my wife and I deciding on whether to see 'The Bone Collector' or 'Double Jeopardy'...we chose the latter and boy was THAT a BIG mistake!! 'Jeopardy' was a total waste of time, and to think we passed up Denzel, who as far as I am aware has NEVER been in a bad movie, for such drivel--well when I finally rented 'The Bone Collector' I felt even more stupid for passing it up originally. Now that I have been able to get over my mistake (with a few months of therapy of course...) this is the movie that got me to read the books with Lincoln Rhyme written by Jeffery Deaver. I have been VERY glad I did, too. Now as good as this movie is, I would have to say that it paled when compared to the book (but which movie is EVER better than the book?). Without comparing it to the book, it was still a fun and exciting forensic-driven 'whodunnit'. The character of Lincoln Rhyme is easily one of my favorite in the last 10 years mostly because he is so 100% the opposite of what we have come to expect in this type of crime-fighter. He is bed-ridden due to an accident which left him paralyzed while on duty some years back. So where is the action you might ask? Well Denzel had to do pretty much all of his acting with his face, and that took a lot more talent than most people realize--and YES, in fact there is a LOT of action in this intense thriller. If you are interested in the forensic side of crime you simply CANNOT pass up this movie. How exactly can you find a murderer based upon such little evidence, all of which was purposely LEFT behind BY the killer? Finding out is definitely the biggest portion of why this is such a great movie.I URGE you strongly, IF you enjoyed this movie, pick up a copy of the book, and then move on the the even better, 'The Coffin Dancer' also featuring Lincoln Rhyme. If you are looking for a surprise ending, 'The Coffin Dancer' had a DOOSEY! When all is said and done, if you see Denzel in the movie, go and see it, you are assured of a great time--and 'The Bone Collector' is NO exception.
The Bone Collector follows mostly the movie Silence of the Lambs and Se7en. Still incredibly emotional and suspenseful and Angelina Jolie, Denzel Washington, and Michael Rooker all turn in extremely terrific performances.
The Bone Collector is a superior procedural crime drama, based on asuperior novel. Jeffrey Deaver's novels involving quadriplegic forensicexpert Lincoln Rhyme and his "grid walker" Amelia are excellent andgripping crime dramas and this movie, which adapts the first novel (inwhich they first meet) is also very good.It does rather downplay the novel's subplot concerning Lincoln's wishto bring his life to an end, but the crime story itself is toldentertainingly and grippingly.Denzel Washington is excellent as Rhyme (I don't recall Rhyme's racebeing explicitly stated in the novel, although I had always assumed hewas white: Washington's performance renders my speculation moot).Anjelina Jolie is good as Amelia, although the character's debilitatingarthritis is only infrequently obvious. The supporting cast are allgood, with Michael Rooker especially pleasing as the sort ofbone-headed police captain you love to hate. The plot is grim, but the film is excellent.
...they oughta let the girl live in one of them movies she's in. About this movie, it's okay, but they shouldn't compare "The Bone Collector" with "Rear Window", "Se7en" or "Silence of the Lambs" mainly because those films took a whole lotta time setting up that creeee-eeepy, eerie mood that they get in..."Se7en" was so dark, eerie and gritty that if you took two showers after seeing it, you still would not feel right. The premise of the movie, the logistical set up of it and the acting from Al Bundy, moody Angelina Jolie, Denzel and Queen La were all first rate, but the powers that be should have taken more time with the mood setting so that when the denouement hit, we the audience could really feel the terror with Denzel...a la "Rear Window" or "Wait Until Dark". That would have been really thrilling moviemaking. Other than that, it is a pretty good show. I did expect Queen La to come strolling into the last scenes bandaged up, but...
Very original story and well-acted. The filming itself was just fantasticand added a high level of suspense to some scenes.Denzel Washington plays a quadriplegic ex-detective who's been asked by thelocal police to help solve a case of complicated serial killings. A youngfemale street cop (Angelina Jolie) catches his eye for having a knack forforensics, so he convinces her to assist him in the case. Queen Latifahplays his live-in nurse and is superb. She continues to be one of the mostunderrated actors around.Everything was well-done in the movie, and it's hard to find any weaknesses. The ONLY weakness is miscasting of Jolie. Although she does a fine job,her physique and personality don't match the desired traits of thecharacter. In this instance, they were obviously looking more for a prettyface than for someone who actually fit the bill. Queen Latifah may haveserved better for this role. It's still a great filmI gave it 8 out of 10.
Well folks, who's read the book that the film was based on? Anyone? OK,its called "The Coffin Dancer" and it's by Geoffrey Deaver. I believethat the film is a well thought out adaptation of this book. It'salways hard for producers and directors to screen books, but i am ofthe opinion that they have done a good job! The stars in this movierepresent the characters from the book impressively, and in particular,Denzel stood out. It must be hard for someone to play a quadriplegicdetective, simply by studying material from a book never intended forthe big screen! To summarise, make sure you read the book, then watchthe film. I hope you'll be of the same opinion as myself.
