Sub-par, predictable, and boring...

This film does not deserve a full review, so I will express my opinionby way of a few bullet points: - Predictable and banal. - Dialogue and script could have been writtenby anyone who is half literate. - Nothing new, retreads old ground butpoorly. - Gushy and silly without being charming or funny to redeem it.- A waste of 85 minutes. Please watch something like "Love Actually" if you want a romanticmovie with Colin Firth in it. Even the mediocre "My SuperEx-Girlfriend" has more going for it than this dud. Uma Thurman can befunny with the right script, but no one could have saved this trash.

Not good at all

This review is from: The Accidental Husband (Amazon Instant Video) What a great cast but what a horrible script they had to work with. I love chick flicks, but this was painful to watch. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was lovable, but Uma's character was annoying and she overacted the part. It wasn't that it was a predictable and simple story line, the movie was bad because it was annoying, too many stupid scenes, and too much overacting.

Not a good rom com. Look elsewhere.

I love rom coms. This is not one to spend time on unless you've watched most of the rest. One cool thing is it feels like a rom com from the 90s.

After a long wait to see this one, it was a bit disappointing but still, most romcom fans will like it

Dr. Emma Lloyd (Uma Thurman) is a psychologist with a popular radiocall-in program, where she dispenses advice to the lovelorn. Sheherself does not have any problem in that department, for she is set tomarry Richard (Colin Firth), quite a handsome and successfulbusinessman. One day, a caller takes the doctor's advice and, realizingthat she is not suited for her fiancé, Patrick (Jeffrey Dean Morgan)she breaks her engagement. Fireman Patrick, who lives in Queens, in anapartment building run by Hindi immigrants from India, is mighty tickedoff at Dr. Emma. He persuades on a teenage Hindi resident to hack intothe records of the state of New York and "marry" him to Dr. Emma. SinceEmma and Richard are about to get their marriage license, this willcreate complications. In the course of getting everything straightenedout, it is understandable that Emma and Patrick meet each other. But,uh oh. Patrick likes what he sees and arranges for the good doctor tohave many a tete-a-tete with him. What will be the result? Will Emmastay with Richard or will she fall for a handsome fire fighter? I likedthis film, especially the concept, for the actual movie has quite a fewflaws. The story zigzags and veers, at any given moment, and thedialogue is not very memorable. On the other hand, the cast is great,for Morgan, First, and especially the very beautiful Thurman do a nice,nice job. In fact, fans of Thurman's would be hard to find any film inwhich she looks more lovely and has a sweeter temperament. Costumes,too, are gorgeous and the production values are high. Therefore, dearfans of romantic comedy, do grab ahold of this one and watch it. Youwill most like what you see, even if you don't watch it twenty moretimes. But, all of you who disdain the proverbial "chick flick" willmost likely be bored silly.

Fairly cute, likeable; a feel good Rom-Com

I would recommend this to most friends. Good casting. All around fun, mostly clean (except for the usual bed-hopping), happy ending.

Delightful Example Of The Form

I gave it two stars because, as I wrote my review, I realized that I wouldn't buy it. For me, three stars is a film I'd buy, whether I actually buy it or not. Four stars is a film I bought and watch regularly. I don't see myself watching this film again, any time soon, but I did like it.It is, as mentioned, a delightful example of the form: Romantic Comedy. I'm not a big Uma Thurman fan and that's probably why it didn't make bigger points. Colin Firth plays his all too common role of the nice guy, put aside, but he can't make up for what Uma doesn't bring to the film. I liked her as Venus, in "The Adventures of Baron Von Munchausen". Still, it's quite entertaining. The pieces more or less add up (not a big concern for romantic comedies, anyway) and they do manage to build (and hold) the suspense.I would enthusiastically recommend this as an afternoon break, a late night distraction, a rainy day popcorn moment. I'd rent it, but I wouldn't buy it.

I'd rather watch a test pattern.

At least, with an television broadcast test pattern you get a sound that's in tune. The soundtrack to this movie turned an otherwise mediocre dull, girl-falls-for-the-other-guy-for-no-good-reason "love story" into a "Where did I put the earplugs; I can't find the MUTE button fast enough" monotone singing, American-Idol rejects eppisode. William Hung has a better voice than whomever sang that hiddeous tune played throught, and after this movie. If the music was better I'd give it ONE more star. But it lost a star because I can't get the pain of that noise out of my head now! Save yourself the time and watch the brittish classic "I'm alright Jack". At least you can get an education from that movie, where you can't from this one.

Dirtball meets Classy Lady

Female Radio Station host meets Dirtball Fireman. She's the classy host of a radio show that offers advice to those in love and he 1)is a sleazy dirtball that gets her drunk against her will, 2) interupts her over and over again as she tries to get him to sign some papers,and 3) makes a fool of himself at a cake tasting event.... yet in this scene a woman says he would make a great husband... PLEZZZZZZ.. This is one of the most idiotic movies I have ever watched in my life. I couldn't bear to watch this movie as I already knew how its going to turn out.. She's going to fall in love with this arrogant, sleaze ball. Don't waste your time watching this horrible movie. You're time is worth more than what this movie offers.

Done To Death

Even good actors can waste their talent in mediocre movies. There'snothing new here that hasn't already been done. The typical New YorkCity backdrop with wall to wall happy music and phony characters no onecan relate to in the real world. I'm not even a writer and I could slaptogether this plot every day. It's kind of like the movie you settlefor when the one you really wanted to see is either sold or rented outor being shown at the wrong time. To me the real star is New York aspresented via Hollywood style and to draw in tourists. But polishedsets and happy music doesn't prevent you from getting bored,uninterested and hoping for a sudden power outage. Maybe it's time wegive these movies a well-deserved break and try something really newand not just an update of the New York City skyline set to a romancecomedy. Glad I waited for an on-line service to show it, even then Iwanted to walk out.

Waste of having Colin Firth in a movie!

I had this movie on my wish list, but then saw it over the weekend and didn't like it. Any movie where Colin Firth is just a supporting role, and misused at that, is a waste of time in my opinion. Uma Thurman is beautiful beyond belief, but the "lead" actor (not Firth) is not interesting. Nor is it believable that she'd pick him instead. Not well scripted, either...big disappointment.

LOUSY!

What a waste of time and energy this film is for Colin Firth. He is an incredibly talented and intelligent actor and I fail to understand why he would stoop this low to have agreed to act in this immensely stupid film? Uma Thurman not only can't do comedy, she needs to quit acting altogether. This woman can't act and it shows. The best part of the whole film is the Bollywood dancing segment which does not fit into the whole scheme of the film by the way. I had to fast forward my way through the movie because it was painful to watch. Please save your money and don't even rent it. Just forget it was ever made.

Rather forgettable

This film is about a fireman whose wedding got called off due to theadvice of a radio host. He is determined to seek revenge against theradio host who destroyed his life."The Accidental Husband" is not too bad. Uma Thurman is charming andadorable as always. The hair stylists deserve a praise, because inalmost every scene Uma Thurman has a different hairstyle, and they alllook good.However, the plot is rather implausible. Patrick Sullivan's revenge israther malicious, making him rather unlikeable. This sets the wrongtone for the film right from the start. The bald Indian guy tries sohard to be funny, but he ends up being annoying.Overall, "The Accidental Husband" is suitable for a brain off evening.It's rather forgettable though. If it did not have big stars in it, itwould be difficult for this film to attract viewers.

This review is from: The Accidental Husband (DVD) I just happened onto this film recently and had so much fun with it that I knew that I wanted a copy for my permanent collection. Much to my surprise, I was delighted with it and I appreciate that it had more depth than I thought it would. I enjoy all of the characters and love seeing them again!

Enjoyed it! Not perfect but super funny and heartwarming.

This movie was just what I needed for a few laughs. It's definitely a Rom-Com and it lived up to its promise to delivery both. Uma Thurman is a stiff and skeptical radio "love doctor" who is engaged to Colin Firth, a stiff man himself, who is seemingly perfect for her. Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Patrick, a man who has been dumped by his fiance after being given advice from the Love Doctor. For revenge, he goes after the Doc to teach her a few lessons. He thinks he's teaching her about what it means to screw with someones life, but ultimately he teaches her so much more than that.Jeffrey Dean Morgan is definitely the show stealer here and the heartthrob. He's charming and funny and adorable. He's an "everyday man" living with his family in the big city and is a fireman. He's got his buddies and his job and he's very simple. But he's got a big heart and that's very obvious. When the love doctor "grows on him" he sets out to make her his. Two people who you would have never thought could find love together do indeed.This film had some flaws and mostly it was under-utilized stardom. Isabella Rossellini is a surprise co-star in the film and I LOVE her. But saying she was overlooked by the camera would be an understatement when you consider Colin Firth in this film (the shunned fiance, what?!).But on the plus side, I enjoyed the Indian culture scenes, the message of family, opposites attract and love winning the day.This film wasn't perfect by any means... but it scores four stars in the Rom Com genre at least. I'd maybe even watch it again... even just to watch Jeffrey Dean Morgan's cutey smile.

It was OK

I did enjoy the scenes with Colin but to me it seemed as if he had a week to kill and Uma asked him to be in the film and he said sure why not.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan makes it worth every minute.

Honestly, I couldn't tell you how good or bad this movie was in general because I was too utterly caught up in Jeffrey Dean Morgan's every word and motion. I was completely happy just watching that perfect, charming, beautiful man for an hour and a half. He'd make any movie worth watching :)

Excellent romantic comedy

This movie is a great film to watch. The actors did a superb job and right from the beginning it grabs you and doesn't let go.One of the year's best!! AAA++++

Sweet and easy

This is pure entertainment - and that was what I was looking for when I chose this film. Good actors and smooth going story, perfect for enjoyment and relaxation.

Fun and relaxing

I saw this movie and then I read the reviews, and the later just don'tfit. The movie was fun, it was well-acted, the rhythm was dynamic,intensive and fast, challenging you to follow on the sequence ofactions and events, the music was great, Uma's outfits were sofashionable, hilarious situations were generously served... I could notwant anything more from a comedy. I felt goosebumps from thelove/romantic scenes as well (in positive terms that is). I could feelthe chemistry between the main actors, while I think the supportiveactors were well-placed too. Loved the father-daughter model that waspresented. Also, I couldn't disagree more with reviews that doubt onmatches from different backgrounds. Where do you guys live? It happensall the time and it has good potential. In my opinion, the movie wassupposed to be fun, and it did achieve this after all. Overall, it wasa good piece of work.
