Centers on the Shannons, an ordinary family from 2149 when the planet is dying who are transported back 85 million years to prehistoric Earth where they join Terra Nova, a colony of humans with a second chance to build a civilization.
Movie Photos:
We have taken some photos of "Terra Nova - Season One". They represent actual movie quality.
The fact I was able to sit through it for an entire two hours sayssomething in its favor. However, it was not as good as I had hoped itwould be, and was not quite what I expected. I get the impressionthey're trying to be another "Lost" - the sixers are very similar to'the others' on "Lost." I thought this was going to be about a smallgroup of people, who for whatever reasons, had to escape into the past- and that they were going to be on their own in a primitive anddangerous landscape - where they were going to have to start fromscratch  and with a lot more dinosaurs and other dangerous beasts likethe saber-toothed tiger, etc. And that they might even have to live ina cave for a while.Instead, we have two large groups - with more arriving - living insidea protected compound with some kind of political (or something of thatsort) warfare going on between the two groups - and of course ourtypical nuclear family. None of the family is particularly appealing orinteresting. It's basically just the same old, same old familyrelationships.Since the human beings have already completely screwed up their presentworld - I see very little point in them going back in time and screwingthat up as well. At least it is some other time-stream so supposedlytheir actions do not affect the present world.I would like to know how working as a doctor every day around otherpeople she was able to totally conceal the pregnancy of that thirdchild. Which, in my opinion was a very foolish and totally selfishthing for them to be doing.I also would like to know what the white things hanging down from theceilings are about. The teenagers in the show are particularly annoying and stupid - asthey always are in today's television programs and films.I also figure it would be absolutely impossible in the 22nd century tobe able to escape from a maximum security prison in the 1st place andnot be immediately caught in the 2nd place. Nothing really indicatesthese people are from the 22nd century. As usual, the viewer must suspend belief in regards to this series asis true for most films and TV programs, particularly ones of this type.5 stars
I cant believe how bad the actors are. Almost as bad as the storieslike the one with the flu, where you get the flu after about 5 seconds.I hope Spielberg quits and makes room for others because this isridiculous. You have a great story to be told and then you trash it uplike this. The show is even worse then my review. If you see excellentshows being canceled and then this show being made or even a secondseason. BTW can anyone please kick Josh in his nuts?I don't mind B-movies, but this is not even in the alphabet. Ppl willcall me a hater, but I cant understand how someone who is not mentallyill can love or even like this show. Written by retards for retards.
So is there gonna be a season 2? And can some one please please killoff the son already, god the son is so cliché and predictable. Would benice to see the humans interactive more with the dinosaurs. JasonO'Mara seems like a tough guy, I would like to see him take on a wholebunch of guys. Naomi Scott is hot, and she can stay cute and sweet andinnocent for all i care. why oh why did the writers take away the babydinosaur from Zoe Shannon ? made no sense at all, would've been betterif it had been raised by her and served as like a guard dog. could'vehad a whole episode about how she was lost in the jungle and the itprotected her from all kinds of stuff. Simone Kessell is and attractivewoman but has the scinamax look about her.
To all those who wanted that Jurassic Park 4 should stop your mopingand turn to Terra Nova. Now this show isn't like Jurassic Park in thesense of the setting, but the action, suspense, excitement is allthere. Every episode is involving and adventurous. Each episode hasmultiple story lines, but only one story line is completely focused onthroughout the episode. I have no big complaints about this showwhatsoever. It isn't completely flawless, however, nothing is perfect. This show is a definite must see. It's like a movie on TV. You won'twant to miss out on the greatness of Terra Nova. It will blow your mindaway.
I was pinning a lot of hopes to this widely advertised TV show. I likedthe first episode, but somehow felt that characters are not welldeveloped, but I decided to give it a try and watch the 2 and 3episodes. And there I decided that I won't continue watching this Tshow. It's full of clichés and stupid dialogues and worst of all youcan predict what will happen next. What I also didn't like about thisshow is that a lot of attention is giving to each teenager and theirfeelings towards an opposite sex, for Christ's sake this supposed to bea sci-fi show, not another stupid teenage drama. Anyways, if you don'ttrust these reviews watch a couple of episodes and decide for yourself. When it comes to me, I'll watch Primeval instead :)
Since I knew this show was about to aired I was impatient, so when theday came I sat in front of my TV with a basket full of popcorn. Andyes!, finally, there it was Terra Nova with its awful future and allthe things this kind of apocalyptic shows like this one do to makes usthink about the horrible future ahead of us. Then, there they were, our"heroes" traveling 85 million years with the promise of a newbeginning, a new era for mankind.I was watching all this really excited, thought "wow, 85 million years, that's something", but not far from the start of the show I startedthinking that this just might not be as good as I thought it would...and sadly, I was right. At first Terra Nova gives you what you expect, but not much is goingon. You start understanding that this is hardly gonna become one greatseries and the feeling that this is gonna be a just-one-season-show isjust around the corner, coming fast to you and your almost disappointed-no, let's say REALLY disappointed- face with your half full popcornbasket on your lap.Through episode two and three I kept trying, but no, I'm sorry TerraNova, I'm sorry popcorn, but this is one of those shows I'm gonna runaway and fast.If you liked Jurassic Park and Dune this might be the right show foryou, but seriously, it's lame, really, really lame.
Terra Nove isn't bad, but I don't see it being particularly good. Theold CGI, the boring plot lines and hardly ever using dinosoars that weknow and love from movies like jurrassic park makes me wonder why theybothered. If this was about dinosoars more, with more use of them inplots instead of as a minor role, this would be good. However, someepisodes they aren't even seen and it is all about the people in thecolony doing something important. Lets talk about the plot. Basically,in the future, the world is over cramped and poluted, everyone havingto wear masks outside and families are allowed no more that two kids.Thats fair enough and sounds like what future life could be like. Now,they have created portals to transport people back in time to thecretasious period and start a new life, if you are selected. Now, themain guy is in jail for some reason related to him having 3 kids, whichcomes apparent in the first 3 minutes. He escapes andhis family gothrough the portal since his wife has been chosen. This works and theyend up back at terra nova. They have all advanced equipment and so onto fend off these creatures that hardly seem a threat and, the otherenemy of humans who split from the colony, the sixers. You will findout more about them quick. Every episode the sixers play a part and itgets old quick and I wanted some dino action, despite them beingclearly fake CGI that fails at life. Its all about the humans thoughand they aren't very interesting. When they get the characters likeMalcom and Washington in it more, it becomes slightly better thoughstill has the whole sad relationship between the older daughter and asoldier, the boy (who is a typical rebel teen that appears in mostshows like this) and his relationship wih the girlfriend back home yet,at the same time, with a girl at the colony and so on. It gets annoyingafter a while and doing stuff in episodes like the older daughter goingto get a new battery when they are in short supply bores the hell outof you. They carry guns, but don't use them and the plots are too cheapto get a love for it. Its only in the last 2 episodes when you get thedepth of the series, but even then they miss out what would of been agood action scene completely. The son of Taylor makes a good bad guyand the whole reason behind his actions and that of the sixers is agood enough plot, but was badly executed. I just feel like I amwatching a clock going around and around when watching. Whn it tries, this series can be good but it hasn't got the power or execution tomake the series any more enjoyable thatn four stars
I watched the pilot because of 2 reasons: O'Mara and dinosaurs. Well, the show delivered. But it's not entirely what most expected. Thenagain, we've only seen the first episode. I think before we fully judgeor critique this show, we need to see at least a few more episodes. What I'm hoping to see is more story, more creative subplots, morerealism, and more struggles against dinosaurs. The storyline with theSixers should be more fully developed, so I imagine there is more tocome there.I appreciate the teenage children in this show. I think there isinherent drama there that will naturally create more drama similar towhat we saw in the pilot. I find also the younger daughter to be a cuteaddition and was touched in the scenes between her and O'Mara. I'd liketo have more back-story of O'Mara and Conn- so far I'm not seeing muchchemistry between them. All in all, I want to see more. Hopefully this won't be yet anothershow I get sucked into that will be canceled. All the great shows withtons of potential always get canceled.
I found out about this series long time before it premiered last week.National portals had on their feed that a new series with StevenSpielberg as one of its main executive producers, was in production. There is no doubt, that I was hyped at that moment, being a big fan ofSteven Spielberg productions ( Jurassic Park, Back to the future ) andall. Little did i know how it would feel after having watched theseries pilot. If you've already watched the trailer you'll know the plot but let mesummarize it for you real quick. The year is 2149 (I got no idea whythey picked this exact date) and human mankind has failed in managingthe environment. In addition, it is against the law to have more than 2children. So the only solution is sending people back to the Cretaceousperiod in an alternative timeline, through this recent invention thatlooks like stargate, creating a new colony, leaving the doomed Earthbehind. Although when they do travel back there, there is this mysteryif they've indeed been transferred to an alternative timeline. Ifthat's not the case then the show will be driving itself to anotherseries of major plot holes .Family TiesAnyway so you got this family consisting of the cliché hero cop dad -ex escaped convict back in the 2140's for beating cops/hiding his 3rdchild but that's another story, the pharmacist mother - a recruit forterra nova's scientific research department, the geek big daughter, theradical adolescent son  that risks his life for his ignorance- and thepreteen daughter  that always gets in trouble for beingunderage/unprotected. In the first episode for example the son willskip Surviving the Jungle 101 class to go with these stoner teensoutside the gates and will end up trapped in a hummer, firingfictionalized raptors (raptors with a sharpen end tail named slashers)with an assault rifle. The series revolves around this family and turns out to be a familysoap opera in this settlers camp called '' Terra Nova '' surrounded byhostile jungle with evil dinos. The dialogs are so cheesy that becomeenjoyable to laugh at. The characters' names are forgettable and youwouldn't even care if the whole family or the whole camp vanished anddinos won. This one time at the Terra Nova camp..Another mystery of this new land is some revolutionized settlers therewho believe in conspiracy theories and have their own coterie somewherein the jungle, called the Sixers. It is clear that the show is a big piece of crap when it comes toacting and screenplay but it got some eye-candy to get you hooked. Ifyou're a tivo girl or an homosexual male viewer you'll pervertedlyenjoy the scenes with hunk dad. If you're a male viewer, like me,you'll find interest in sonic guns and Carnivore raptors. To sum up, despite all the cheese and the awfully written family dramathis is fun stuff to watch if you got nothing else to do. Bonus pointsfor that Colonel from Avatar, who has now grown a beard and looks morebad ass than ever. It gets extra points, as well, for this comic reliefscene. So overall it scores a 3 out of 5 in the pointless meter.
Many people told what i wanted to say. I will add only couple of thingsabout this awful show.Food, shelter, power, education; almost everything is provided for thepeople in Terra Nova. But whats the market place for? Since only chosenpeople could go to Terra Nova such as scientists, soldiers, medicaldoctors, farmers; do they really need someone who sells crappy guitar. They are in Terra Nova because they screwed the Earth. Apparently theydid not learn any lesson. They begin to screw the earth again bychanging the bird's breeding habitat in 3rd episode. They also needGreenpeace in Terra Nova.Well trained soldiers die in seconds whenever they are attacked; but 16year old kids can survive on every Dino encounters. They only can go 85 million in the past. But how come they arrive indifferent times. Everyone from first pilgrim to last should have beenin Terra Nova at the same time.
Terra Nova's plot is beautifully simple. Masqueraded in hints aboutglobal warming, emigration, and pop control a family tries to cross theborders of time. They do this in exchange for a better life. This worksreally well. The story sucks you in, and the acting is on par, the computeranimation is better than average (at least it was in the firstepisode). The show is a mix between Lost, and Land of The Lost (ironic)which is really cool since they are both great shows! The only thing that turned me off was what felt like a Sketcherscommercial when the show focused on the two lead teen actors, LandonLiboiron and Allison Miller (Kings). Using the most tween annoyingterms I've ever heard like "OTG", "freshie", "slashers". I about puked.TERRANOVA PRODUCERS, take notes from shows teens actually like forexample; Vampire Diaries, or Twilight did you hear that many clichés onthose shows?I would have given this a 9 if it wasn't for the overly annoying teenparts.
TERRA NOVA is not bad...but it is not that good either. All thatmatters is the return on the current investment, before advertising, aTV pilot record of $10 million on FOX which means ratings countotherwise it will be cancelled or sold and vastly stripped down. Beyondthat I was horrified at the sheer cost and waste of talent that was ondisplay during the pilot. Also the number of plot holes had mescreaming at my TV, not because I'm mental but due to the fact thatlike Falling Skies I wanted to love the show from day one but they madeit practically impossible. Steven Spielberg's involvement is almost aguarantee of poor quality these days (which boggles my mind) as he likewith Falling Skies has sold his credit to the show.It is as if the creators (amazingly a good fringe director!!??) havenever read a good book / watched a great film or viewed a super serieswhich is not the case if you look at all involved resume which leads meto believe that there was allot of interference from on high and thedisjointed editing, and patchy almost hasty writing would support this. The dinos effects (that's really the selling point folks) were belowpar (especially in daylight), the script was a mediocre to laughable, the science messy, confusing and offensive, the acting was weak (as ifthe characters except Taylor could not commit) and those characterswere mostly horrible (though as always fairly attractive) but like thealien dung of falling skies it has potential due to a captivating story(or idea) as sometimes dino dung can be sweet smelling and hey it makesroses grow right!...right?There is no denying that though the Hollywood moneymen wet dreamchecklist has been ticked, it is currently fundamentally flawed, lacking the 'oomph' other better but recently cancelled shows had.Terra Nova is not as good as SGU/SG1/V/ENTERPRISE or BSG and it'sdefinitely no LOST or blue enough to be AVATAR.The mixed genres clashed violently, too violently for many families andtoo stupid for clever teens. It was not JACK BAUHER hardcore enough foryoung men with only a few deaths (not the annoying kids sadly) and thepolitics was no west wing and it was not Califonia sexy though theplain girl stripped off) or Castle witty though it clearly tried for aslice of every pie to get those ratings and big bucks back thoughprobably it will alienate and lose the very audience it's trying to winthrough such transparent tactics. So what is TERRA NOVA? Possibly 'falling skies - lite' which is no goodthing as I was disappointed with FS though I am trying so hard to stickwith it. At least TERRA NOVA has yet to bring in religion thoughironically they managed to drag back all of the reasons the future ismessed up into the past plus the stereotypes.A good pilot (like LOST) would make me wow, laugh out loud, shed atear, turn on the light etc. But there were never any really impactingmoments though I did enjoy allot of what was on offer it was all socliché and passé, unoriginal and underwhelming to have any lastingimpact except for the current misdirection which as previouslymentioned had me rialed up.It's so obvious what is wrong with TERRA NOVA and to a less extent itcan all be fixed but no one will give us Starship Trooper for TV whichI think would be one way to make this show compulsive viewing. The showrunners have balls but they have been locked away by a greedycorporation (a film in itself!) and all involved are desperate (due tothe investment) and confused (due to the interference) at what they aretrying to sell as clearly too many people have had their say to raisethe budget and spread the burden.By stretching themselves in every direction but not far enough TerraNova is very middle of the road made for TV syfy movie nonsense hopingto appeal to all groups, races, ages etc but it won't, can't work (noton this budget)...it never works no matter how many dinos or aliens or??? you throw into the primordial melting pot, people are just toosavvy these days to fall for it long term. For all the rubbish on TV weare still fat from Dexter, Breaking bad, Lost, The Mentalist, BSG,House 24, Spartacus, The Wire, SOA, WW, BN which all deliver more bangeven on reruns so why give time to a new show which fails to succeed inany one direction and as a whole is a mess.Outside of Falling Skies if I had to compare it to anything or theroute the inevitable cancellation will take it would be that of THECAPE. I liked the cape and was sorry to see it go as one thing itexcelled in was being ridiculous camp cheddar but it whiffs of the sameextra ripe cheese created by juvenile execs champing at the bit of afilm success train and jump on for the ride failing to understand thecore mechanics and so we get processed cheese, totally missing thepoint of what makes a good show great. Maybe someone will take charge and like SGU or V the second series willbe far superior. Already the second part of the pilot was as such butthose good shows I mentioned that was too late for them as they werecanned so really it will come down to money (so sad that so much relieson such a sad thing) or how much they want to lose in the hope ofmaking a hit. It never worked out for Flash Forward; can it work forTerra Nova?
It's really hard to believe there's currently a 7.4 rating on thisjunk. I loved Jurassic Park and generally I like most things Spielberghas been involved with but this is no more than a day-time soap operaset amidst the jungle of eons ago. They even transplanted cars andhospitals and Ikea furniture back in time with them. The first 15minutes or so were gripping but as soon as they stepped back in time itseems the writers relaxed and decided a few dinosaurs popping up everyso often would be good enough to carry the day. Throw in the typicalrebellious teens and warring neighbors and we have Desperate Housewivesor any other soap ready to go.
Four awfuls out of five.Obviously aimed at pre-teen market, and a dim-witted one at that.Certainly not at actual, modern teenagers with a normal IQ, anyway. As for adults who would enjoy this? Maybe if the show is sent thru acrack in time to an America of 1950 or before. I should have known thatanything written by Brannon Bragga would be puerile. I didn't read all the reviews here, but I agree with the many negativeones I did read, (except for the remark that this will be liked bywomen over 20. I am in that group and that's an insult.). Mr. Spielberg, you probably are responsible for the good dinosaur FXand nothing more. Your name is what got me to tune in to this show, butI will not be so eager and trusting after this.
I have never wrote a review on IMDb before, but after reading otherpeople's reviews of Terra Nova, It felt like I needed to.I discovered this series a month ago. A series set into the future, where the human race is at the brink of extinction, because of our owngreed and ignorance. But there is one last hope: Terra Nova. Humanityis given a second chance at survival. A blessing they might notdeserve, but still they've got it.A chance to travel 85 million years into the past. A chance to startall over again, with dinosaurs, clear skies and oranges. A couple ofdays after the premiere of this truly great series, I saw the ratings. It hit me hard. A sad shock went through my entire body. Only ninemillion people saw Terra Nova...Americans, they have a horrible eye for entertainment. Truly horrible.Great series are cancelled every year, while horrible sitcoms arerenewed. While nine million people witnessed this year's greatestnewcomer to the television, Terra Nova, over 20 million people watchedTwo and a half men. I can't believe it. There is one question I can'tget out of my mind. Why?What it is Two and a half men has got, that Terra Nova hasn't? Bad plotlines? Horrible jokes, or maybe mediocre actors? Dear Americans, you donot know what entertainment is. You've got no idea what a great seriesis supposed to be like. It is too bad you've got as much power as youhave.Terra Nova is an extremely expensive series to make. You see, it is notabout a couple of guys drinking in a bar or watching television athome. It is about dinosaurs and a new world, far far away. It isspeculated that the show will be cancelled if it doesn't get 17-18million viewers steadily through every episode. So: Thank youAmericans, you are about to erase one of the finest series we have seenin years, because you prefer crap television. Some reviewers says that meanwhile the dinosaurs might look real, thehumans don't. Well, I feel the opposite way. Jason O'mara plays JimShannon, father of the Shannon family the series is about. You mightknow him from Life on Mars (U.S Version). He is a great actor, and heproves it once again. The actors is not the ones who look a little bitfake. It's the dinosaurs. It's not like the dinosaurs in Terra Novalooks like the T-Rex from the original King Kong, but I expected a bitmore, considering the money spent on the pilot episode. The dinosaurslook a bit lifeless. There is some truly beautiful scenes in the pilot. Right from the veryfirst minute, we follow Jim Shannon, the father of the Shannon familywho are the main people in the series. He brings home an orange to hisfamily. They are very surprised, almost shocked. As we see the orangeshine as everything around it is grey and colorless, Elisabeth (themother of the Shannons) says that she can't remember last time she sawone of those.Zoe is the youngest daughter of Elisabeth and Jim. When they had justentered Terra Nova and was heading straight for the "village", shelooks up and witnesses something beautiful. She is used to the grey, depressive clouds anno 2147, but now she sees a blue sky with brightclouds. "They are so white", she says. At the end of the episode, sheasks her parents if "it's going to fall on us". She was talking aboutthe moon. The family gathered together outside the house, fascinatedabout the moon which had never been that clearly nor beautiful. We take these things for granted. Tasty fruits, clear skies andromantic full moons. The Shannon family also took these things forgranted. Humanity in general did. It resulted in an unrecognizableworld. A world which got grayer and grayer every day, and the airthinner and thinner. But the Shannons are among those who got a newchance to start over. And that is what Terra Nova is all about. Asecond chance to make things right.
I've read many reviews on Terra nova. Lot's of people are saying its"terrible", Its "cliched", "big letdown". These people are just boringand too critical. After watching the premiere (even though it was 2 hours), i didn't wantthe show to stop. It had everything a good show needs. Action, drama, suspense, and a good plot (so far). Pretty good actors and decenteffects. It has a lot of potential and i can't wait to see the nextepisode. All in all, if you haven't seen it, watch it. You won't bedisappointed. Just ignore all the dummies who are bad mouthing thisseries already. Everybody these days just can't seem to relax and enjoythe show without being winy and critical. Watch and enjoy.
Normally a pilot episode establishes some sympathy for theprotagonists. In this case it is quite the opposite. The year is 2149 and the world has been completely destroyed byoverpopulation and pollution. So sensibly enough it is illegal to havemore than 2 children. The protagonist family apparently don't see theobvious necessity of that, so they have decided to have a 3rd child. When the authorities show up due to this serious crime (givin the stateof the world) the father (a cop) becomes extremely violent, and istherefore thrown in prison (obviously). But OK. The idea of the show is pretty good. It could have been greatif the characters hadn't been so silly. But they are, so thumbs downfrom here :(
I've watch 2 episodes and I find the writing to be formulaic and fullof basic mistakes. A good example of bad research and writing is in thefirst few minutes of the second episode where a "survival expert" isasking the children how to tell, which direction is north. One of themreplies with the myth about moss growing on only one side of the trees. Some simple research and the knowledge of the jungles and forest ofthat time period would show it to be false. I haven't been throughsurvival training, but I do hike and even I know not to rely on mossgrowing on trees. The only true indicator is a compass. A basicsurvival tool that they seem to have forgotten how to make. Also, what happened to making me care about this family or any of thecharacters? I watched the teenagers sneak out and knew that they wouldget stranded. The writing was boring and formulaic. No surprises. Inthe first episode, they gave away the only mystery that would have keepme watching. I'm not interested enough to keep watching and see thefamily "figure it out".
The whole family thing has the wrong feel for the situation. It's likethey just moved there from Orange County. The teens are petulantbabies. I doubt that would be the case if they had really just left anoverpopulated, dangerously polluted world run by a harshly militaristicgovernment. Why can't there be some original thinking about how peoplemight behave in such a precarious situation with an uncertain future, dinosaur threats, and a competing population. Maybe this is a worldwhere teens use their capable brains in new and interesting ways, rather than as trite selfish brats who need babysitting. I doubt thatteens would act like that if they were in this situation. Yes, it'sgood to have varying levels of behavior; not everyone has to bebrilliant or saintly. But behavior is influenced by situation and itshould bring unique fears, force some creativity, plus there is anobvious ability to have impact in such a small population. What are therelevant issues in this world and how do they impact the inhabitants?
Another senseless, excessively violent fantasy from producers who thinkwe are all stupid. At least the hype machine is working, even if thisseries, I predict, will fail completely. From the plastic modifiedfootball uniforms to the extremely tired dinosaur fantasies, there isnothing real, realistic or promising in this new series. From thereally stiff acting, terrible lighting and over-crowded effects andfake habitats, everything about this series if transparent phoniness.Given the really promising and outstanding series that Fox has dumpedfor no good reason, there is no reason to rejoice at this over-hypedand absurd story. I found the first episode unwatchable. There isnothing in the generic and cheaply shod cast to inspire interest orcaring. The cast seems empty of talent, stiff and unbelievable. A goodstory introduces characters the viewer can car about. The now genericpartially-shaved men in their silly costumes with their predictabledialog was boring from the first minute. Why viewers have given this arating above 1 is beyond me. Perhaps the viewers voting here arechildren, as children seem to love anything with dinosaurs. yet theshow disrespects children and is saturated with so much mindlessviolence that I regret even watching the few minutes of this turkey Icould take before turning off my TV and going outside to the realworld. Fail. In my view, completely.
