Haley Graham is a former gymnast-turned-juvenile delinquent whom, after one too many run-ins with the law, is forced to enroll at an elite gymnastics academy, the VGA in Houston, Texas which is run by the legendary Olympic gymnast Burt Vickerman. But the rebellious Haley is not welcomed into the academy by the other teenage gymnasts whom despise her for walking out on her Junior Olympic team years earlier during a competition which cost them the gold medal. But Haley is not a docile person either and makes every effort to provoke conflicts with the other girls. Vickerman takes it upon himself to coach Haley in his own way to make her regain her self respect for the VGAs coming spot on the Gymnastic Nationals.
I just happened to see this movie and I really loved it! It's got greatmusic that makes you want to get up and move along to, amazinggymnasts, great acting, and an awesome story-line! I used to personallydo gymnastics when I was younger, but not competitive. That is prettymuch exactly what goes on; madness! You coach and judges do controlyou, and this movie was exactly right! If you want to see some stylingmoves, and fantastic gymnastics and super funny lines and jokes, IDEFINITELY suggests seeing this movie!!! Who cares if it's a girlymovie take your friends and have a good time! (When I was watching thismovie, other teenagers were so involved they dressed up! They must docompetitive gymnastics! GO SEE THIS MOVIE!!!)
maybe i'm nuts but i fully enjoyed this movie.the biggest reason for mewas just how fun it is.it's written with such wit and sarcasm, which isgreat.plus,it also shows the athleticism of the girls in gymnastics.itdoesn't hurt that the film pokes less than gentle fun at both thejudges in that sport and in another well known sport.sure you could saythe movie is clichéd,but i thought it worked.it didn't pound you overthe head with a sledgehammer to get a message across.i laughedvirtually all through.and there's also some hot women, which is a also agood thing.but these women also have acting ability.true, were nottalking about an academy award winning movie, but, being funny and ableto zing off one liners,is in my mind,no less difficult than beingserous.anyway, after all that rambling,i give Stick It a perfect10,because i forgot about life's problems and felt good while watchingand after.
i thought stick it was a very good film as it shows a young woman whowent from a gymnast to a biker and juvenile delinquent and back to agymnast and she was very hardworking to make the lives of her fellowgymnasts bearable as they weren't allowed to do anything example, goout with friends, have fun outside of gymnast class, eat the wrongthings ever until this girl came along and showed them how to have funoutside of gymnast class by taking them out with 2 of her male friendsand eat sweets and let loose. when their world champions arrives shedecides to take the lead when a fellow gymnast is deducted 0.5 of apoint for showing a bra strap so then she decides that they shouldchoose the winner of each group by only one of them participating andthe other girls did everything against the rules.
This review is from: Stick It (DVD) This movie was pretty good. It has a good story line and teaches a good lesson.
It might not have anything to do with real life, but this screenwriter's version of how girls are alternately bitchy and touchy-feely is entertaining.
... uneven teen sports drama ...
I am LONG past the age where I seek out teen comedies to watch. Just don't have the appetite for them anymore. But I stumbled on this today while channel surfing. It is witty, sassy, not at all vulgar or in poor taste, and hovers around being corny and formulaic without actual landing on it. In other words, it rises head-and-shoulders above the vast majority of teen comedies. The lead actresses are not competition-caliber gymnasts, but you'd never know it. The editing is so SEAMLESS that I just couldn't tell where the actresses ended and the stunt doubles began. In fact, I had to check Wikipedia and the Internet Movie Database just to see if the film used real gymnasts as the leads. THAT'S how hard it was to tell the actresses from their doubles. Okay, so this movie WAS a bit formulaic. But it was executed well, and that counts for a lot. I enjoyed it a great deal.
OK, the plot, like your typical pre-teen movie...it's hard to follow...She needs money for something, and somehow it's going to get her out of"doing time" for wrecking a house under-construction back home? What makes this movie hilarious and memorable are the quotes. cliché?yes! Stupid? Yes! Sure-to-be-repeated in schools across America for ayear and a half? OF COURSE! little things like the double-handed"rock-on" symbol followed by the words "too much rock for one hand!"and the antics of two crazy boys whom I hate to admit, are like manyboys I do know, will make it a smash-hit.It's a step below Bring It On, there will never be another Bring It butStick It makes a case for itself. Girls who think they are hard-a**eseverywhere will be quoting these chicks for months and years to come!
Extremely predictable, horrible plot, the wost acting since EightLegged Freaks, and very cliché. There was too much effort put in tomake this like all the other Bring It On -type teen movies, and theresult was a cast who overacted throughout the film and a plot that waspainful to follow. It had its memorable quotes a couple of times, butbeyond the seldom few that there were, it was mind-numbingly dull.Maybe 15-year-olds would find this more entertaining, and find theclose-ups of pubescent girls in leotards appealing, but I definitelywas not one of them. If I had more thumbs, I'd give it more than justtwo thumbs down.
This started with a lower degree of difficulty and the execution had some flaws.
A message of competitive independence permeates debut director Jessica Bendinger's spunky movie about Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym) a headstrong gymnast-disguised-as-rebel who learns to embrace her talents by way of careful coaching from Jeff Bridges.
When I go to the movies, it's pretty rare, mainly because they've become so expensive. However, I really wanted to see this one. It's geared towards the younger croud however, I think that anyone just looking for an all around feel good movie should really enjoy this one. The story line isn't one-dimensional, the acting was convincing, and there was an element of rebellion that makes your inner child say "take that". All in all, this movie was pretty good.
I thought this would be a cheesy movie the first time I watched it - but both my spouse and I really enjoyed it! Great entertainment with some fun one-liners. We liked it enough to purchase it and we do not purchase many DVDs. Highly recommend for when you just need to turn your brain off and laugh...
I though this movie was great, because it was so funny and crazy. I would say that if you liked Bring it on (not the 2nd movie because that sucked) then as the critics say you'll love Stick it. -Monti :)
Jeff Bridges has never been better than he is here as a coach who uses authority, patience and humor to motivate the gymnasts in his charge.
I went to see the movie and was very surprised to see that there werescenes with the boom mike in the shot! I don't know how it could bethat there was one copy of the film with the boom mike and otherswithout it. And I know I'm not hallucinating because other members ofthe audience started whispering "You see that?" and "Look, there it isagain." And any reasonable person would think that someone would havecaught it before the film was released, maybe at screenings or apremiere. But other than the boom mike (which seemed to disappear halfway through the movie), it seemed like the ending just died. Almostlike the production ran out of money and had to scrap plans to turnwhat they already had into a believable ending for what they had beenbuilding up to. The characters all seemed to be gearing up to onemoment that never happens. The lingo in the movie, used by the gymnasts, seem like you need a dictionary in the theater just to understand it.You concentrate so hard on what they last said that you miss the nextfew lines of dialog and yet again you're racing to figure out what justhappened. I would recommend to see this movie, but not to pay fullprice. Go see it in the dollar theater or when it comes out on tape. It's not all bad and it does have some cute moments. But it has toomany problems to pay full price for.
I knew exactly what to expect when I went to the movies to see StickIt! It would be a complete remake of "Bring It On". That was true whenI actually saw the movie but still.. it was a fairly good movie. Ithought it would be boring, I just went because my friends were going, but I actually ended up liking it. Of course, it was a sort of remakeof Bring It On, I still think they did a great job! It was about abunch of girls who were sent to Gynastics Camp (VC something..) andthey all dislike one another. But when they go to the final competitionand do fantastic, but get points off because some girl's bra strap wasshowing, they all scratched. They stand up for what they believe in.How it ends, you just gotta find out yourself!!!
I don't think this movie knew what it wanted to be. It started out with a troubled teen. It ended up a commentary about judging gymnastics. I wasn't at all impressed with the over the top visuals. I would have much rather seen straight footage of real gymnastics. And the ending didn't make much sense. How do the girls decide who wins the events and who walks home with nothing? Anyway, it was an ok rental.
No one talks like this in real life, and certainly not all the members of any group, but it is fun to listen to, and eminently quotable.
This movie is one of the funniest movies I have seen in years. I wentwith two friend ages 30 and 22 and a friends kid age 12 and we allloved it. It's a good fun for all ages type of movie. If you likedBring It On than you will like it. And I can't wait till it comes outon DVD. For those of you that didn't like it because you don't have asense of humor don't till people that it wasn't an good!!!!! Because itROCKS!!!!!! Haley Graham (Missy Peregrym) is a great character andeveryone can relate to in some way or another. The gymnastics andtricks are killer. The support cast is funny too. The music goes wellwith the store. All an all I give to a ten out of ten.
