AMAZING 3D AND DANCING! GREAT COLOR AND BRIGHTNESS!

This review is from: Step Up 3 (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I bought this for the 3D. It's one of the best, if not the best 3D blu-ray that I've seen. It's right up there with "Open Season", which is a bit different because it's animated. It's definitely the best non-animated 3D blu-ray that I've seen. The acting and plot are almost non existent. The dancing is phenomenal though. I'm not even a big fan of dance, and just bought this to watch a non-animation 3D blu-ray besides some stupid documentary. The dancing is extremely entertaining though. You can tell the film was shot with 3D in mind. The setting is also perfect to showcase 3D. Since the film is based in New York the outside scenes offer incredible depth. Also, the brightness doesn't at all look too low as it does on many 3D blu-rays. I watched for a reduction in brightness the whole time and really didn't notice it at all. Ghosting also never seemed to appear. Both the outdoor and indoor scenes have a great level of brightness. The outdoor scene of Alyson Stoner and "Moose" dancing is an incredible showcase of 3D and the brightness and color palette are incredible. This 3D blu-ray is a must have in your collection. There are no special features in 3D, which was a little disappointing. The 3D quality of the film and the dancing made up for it though.

Impressive Dance Sequences Make Up For Weak Everything Else

The Step Up brand has quickly become the big name in dance movies. Thefirst two were surprise hits, but with all the new dance movies and TVshows out in recent year, does Step Up offer anything new to crowdedgenre? After watching Step Up 3D, I felt divided, at times it looked mediocre, yet other moments looked absolutely stunning. The 3D, unlike in othermovies is actually good and enhances the movie. As, shown in themarketing, the movie is full of big spectacular dance sequences thatuse 3D very well, and creates some moments, where the audience are inawe of what is happening on-screen, even with all the dance TV showsand other movies Step Up offers some genuinely amazing moments.Leaving the spectacle aside, the film is very weak in the acting andwriting departments. The dialogue is terrible and the storyline is ageneric copy and paste from other films in the genre. Director Jon Chu,who directed the last film (Step Up 2: The Streets), thankfully knowsthis and makes sure to keep the character development and expositionscenes to a strict minimum. The movie never really loses its pace andgoes from dance sequence to dance sequence. Many moviegoers may thinkthis is lazy(and it is), but fans of the genre will surely love it.This is generally The Fast and The Furious of dance movies, in that ithas what fans want, but everyone else could care less. But unlike thelast installment in The Fast and The Furious series, where the mainattraction(the races) were poorly done, CGI race sequences. Step Up 3D,actually has real dancers, doing all the dance sequences with adds tothe already impressive spectacle on-screen.The film, like I mentioned suffers from some bad writing and genericplot. The film instantly becomes nearly unwatchable whenever thedancers take a break. The dance sequences may be thrilling high qualitymoments, expertly choreographed moments, but whenever the movie slowsdown to tell its story, it seems like a straight-to-DVD movie. Moose(Adam G. Sevani, who played the same role in the last movie) is nowstarting his first semester at NYU with his female BFF Camile (AlysonStoner). He's supposed to be studying engineering, but his fondness forstreet dancing might get in the way. That all you really have to know,to understand that it's the typical dance flick.Closing CommentsIf you liked the first two Step Up movies,or Fame or Stomp the Yard. You will like this as well. You get what you pay for, 3D dancesequences that jump out on-screen. Step Up 3D, does bring biggersequences that almost any modern dance movie, but if you want decentcharacters and storytelling that is not in the price of admission, Justsit back, watch the amazing dances sequences and don't think too much.

Mind Blowing Dancing but Terrible acting except Adam G.Sevani & Alyson Stoner

STEP UP 3D – CATCH IT ( B ) Step Up 3D has the most mind blowing andjaw dropping dancing. The music and dance performances of the movie arepar excellence. All the dances are so fun to watch but Obviously theEnd Dance wins it all, it was Super Fantastic. The only thing Step up3D lacked big time is its acting department, obviously all them candance exceptionally well but their acting was quite poor except forAdam G.Sevani Aka. Moss and Alyson Stoner Aka. Cam. Adam and Alyson hasprior acting experience so they were great along with their dancing.Adam and Alyson's road dance was one of the sweetest dance performanceI've ever seen. Stunning looking Sharni Vinson danced really well andin some scenes she acted quite well. Gorgeous Boy Rick Malambri was theweakest Actor and Dancer among them all. His dancing with Sharni Vinsonwas great but in whole group he was the weakest link. Sadly, he had noexpressions on his face whether he is serious, sad, happy or funny, hehad the same expressions except when he Smiles. I think he got this jobbecause of his looks because he is a terrible actor. One thing besideshis good looks saved him was his awesome chemistry with Sharni Vinson. All the other dancers were great in dancing and terrible in acting.Overall its highly enjoyable because of its Incredible dance routinesso, if we forget the terrible acting by most of them, its pretty good.

THE GREATEST Dance Movie YET

I am a huge fan of all the Step up's and loved You got served, but this Step up 3D ... hands down BETTER than ALL including the old greats. They are getting better and better at keeping the dancers dancing and maintaining a descent story line. "Moose" Adam Sevani proves himself to be a GREAT dancer and fairly good actor. His skills have escalated from his feature in '2".Some complain about 3D... well for "ME" it was THE best. I was graspng at air all night. Loved it going to see it again.

OK 3D, terrible movie - avoid like plague

This review is from: Step Up 3 (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I just got a 3D TV, 3D blu-ray player and a pair of glasses for it and wanted to test out the 3D. This film was the most highly rated in terms of 3D quality that I could see, based on amazon.com reviews. In fact, the 3D is standout in places, but the film itself is atrocious. Suggest avoiding this like the plague - go for one of the animated featured (despicable me, etc.) or a life blu-ray such as one of the iMax features. This is what middle-aged hollywood execs provide for younger people - utterly clueless.

Very Hot, Very Kinetic

I've never seen a movie propelled by break dancing until thisafternoon. I saw it in a large suburban mall multiplex anchored in thecorn belt way west of the Hudson River and 5 miles from the closestFred Astaire Dance School. Wow! Step Up 3D (3D version) is visuallykinetic, great fun and spirited as it follows an iconic, time-testedand, to some, tired formulaic story. Like Astaire's song and dance movies from the 1930's through the1950's, one knows that everything will turn out well before the endcredits but in Astaire's movies and this Jon Chu film, its really abouttraveling - about the trip not the destination - as the film un spoolsscenes with very appealing actors, spectacular dancing, savvy camerawork, smart editing and a corny script. But its cathartic corn, atleast to those of us who wouldn't ordinarily see a street dance flick. When co-leads Alyson Stoner and Adam Savani's dweeb characters relateto one another as NYU frosh, they are believable even in the sillinessof the plot structure. So too with the characters played by otherco-leads Rick Malambi and Sharni Vinson. The 3D treatment provides Step Up 3D with distorted visual energy and Idug it, I dug it a lot over and over again. Even as the spectacular endcredits seem to be winding down, Chu gives us a single guy on a smallpart of a wide screen with lots of hand choreography. The camera slowlytrucks towards him as the credits scroll up on the right side. His handand head moves and the 3D camera work are mesmerizing in a "less ismore" kind of way.I saw this movie on a perfectly beautiful Sunday afternoon because filmreviewers Michael Phillips and A.0. Scott told viewers to see it onwhat is the very last edition of syndicated television's "At theMovies". Thumbs up to you boys, and to Roger Ebert, Gene Siskel,Richard Roeper and the guest critics. Your always engaging show, too,was about the journey.

Step right up for 3D glam over wisdom

Not too bad and everything you may expect for a dance flick. Why it isin 3D is anyone's guess, ohh yehh, thats right, every second movie isin 3D these days. If your a fan of the other two Step Up films you willabsolutely love this predictable story. A battle of dance teams loomswith prize money needed to pay the bank to hold the closure of thestreet dancers studio/residence. The cast is good looking and talentedas they strut their stuff, a highlight being a splashing dance scene inwater. Australian starlet,Sharni Vinson, last seen in CSI.NY is anatural while Rick Malambri (Surrogates) will have the ladies swooningat his disco inferno. It's an OK movie, family friendly and undemandingentertainment.

Great Movie! the Combo is PERFECT!

This review is from: Step Up 3 (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I've just bought this movie, and it's awesome! this combo is even better! You get a 3D blue-ray disc,a regular blue-ray disc, a DVD disc and the better, a digital copy for your iPhone!

bought it for the 3d...

This review is from: Step Up 3 (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) The story was weak, the acting was terrible and the dancing was awesome. This move got high ratings for 3d. My opinion? the 3d sucked. I have a 100 inch screen and my 3d is done with a projector and a 3d converter. 3D movies look awesome with my setup. Other 3D movies I bought from amazon is "Under the Sea", "Legends of the Guardians", and "Alice in Wonderland". These movies had awesome 3D effect. This Stepup movie 3D was by far the worst out of my 3D collection. I was tricked by other reviews saying the 3D in this movie was on par if not better than Avatar. Lies. Unless Avatar had sucky 3D! Maybe it's just me but I watched this entire movie almost cross-eyed. The 3D effect was maybe too strong? When it popped, it was too double imagey and it gave me a headache. There were moments in my other 3D movies in which I saw double but not this much. It was like the whole film and I wanted to watch the movie in 2D instead but the problem is I would be stuck with a crappy movie in 2D instead of 3D crap. Putting crap in 3D automatically makes it better normally. Not in this case. So I'm stuck with a horrible movie with horrible 3D with the only redeeming value is the nifty 3D cover. I wish I could rent 3d movies from netflix.

Horrible plot, but the dance scenes are absolutely mesmerizing.

If you like dance movies, this ones for you, because the dance scenes inthis movie are just unbelievable. But there is lots of acting flaws inthis movie. It was just a plot you really couldn't explain, and a lot ofacting that just went downhill. The movie tried to make you laugh insome parts, but it's just too cheesy. But their were some positive parts, the dance scenes were amazing firstof all, even better in 3D.Just amazing choreography, well done.AdamSevani was the only actor who shined in this movie.Sevani was justamazing with his dance moves, and he also was the only actor, who actedwell.Allison Stone shined a bit in this movie also.So to tell you now, just watch this movie to just look at the dancescenes, because the rest is garbage.I gave it a 6 out of 10 because eventhough the plot and some actors and actresses were terrible, themesmerizing dance scenes made up for it.

An Electrifying Thrill Ride!

This review is from: Step Up 3 (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) They should create a "Best 3D" category at this year's Academy Awards just so this movie could win! As I read some reviews I thought people were exagerating when they said the 3D from this movie rivaled that of Avatar 3D. I personally didn't think it was possible. I watched my Avatar 3D Blu Ray one night and then watched this 3D Blu Ray the next night and I have to say that, IMHO, this movie wins hands down for 3D effect. This movie literally was packed with jaw dropping 3D from start to finish! While Avatar is just plain visually stunning overall, Step Up 3D is without a doubt the BEST 3D Blu Ray I have watched to date. Clearly movies originally shot in 3D are leaps and bounds above the rest. When the girl wearing the red and black gloves was dancing it literally looked like she was IN MY LIVING ROOM!If you are looking for a live action movie to test out your 3D, this is the movie. Unless you are a teenager, the story line probably won't woo you, but unless you suffer from stereoscopic blindess, the 3D sure will!

The best of the Step Up series!

I liked this one better than the first two Step Up movies! The story is repetitive basically a bunch of kids need money and they enter a contest and so it goes but the dancing in this is what impressed me, not the story. I was happy to see "Moose" reprise his role. He's super cute! The main character (the guy on the cover) seemed to disappear whenever the real dancing happened which I thought was funny but the dance numbers were off the chain! The dancer that did the robot in the first part of the film was phenomanal. I've never seen someone move just like a robot like that! They also did a dance in water which was just like the second movie but it was a great dance sequence anyway. The final dance number was also outstanding with the lighted suits they were wearing. It was amazing! I found myself rewinding this movie to see the dance sequences again and again! I highly recommend this if you like dance movies.

OMG!!

Terrible movie. Don't waste your money. The acting is horrible, almost like robots. Some of the dancing was OK. No story line, poor directing. A movie to target young children.

Neil Welch 2012-05-04 14:30:53

Adequate

Let me say from the outset that while I'm a big fan of 3D, I'm not abig fan of dance, especially modern dance. I don't care for the music, and I don't much like modern dance techniques. Having said that, itdoesn't mean that I don't appreciate the amazing gymnastic skills andphysical dexterity shown by every dancer in this movie. I might notlike it very much, but I'm more than happy to acknowledge howstunningly impressive it is and, if you are a fan of this style ofdancing, then it will blow you away.Although it is clear that the movie is a sequel (right from the startit is obvious that certain characters have an established screenhistory), this doesn't matter - it stands perfectly well on its own.The story is basically the same as the English entry in this genreearlier this year, Street Dance 3D - good but impoverished dance grouptake on bad but wealthy dance group in hight profile dance tournament, overcoming various hardships and personal betrayals on the way. Thisone has an additional subplot where amazing dancer geek Moose keepsignoring his old best (girl) friend and risks desiring his relationshipwith her. There is a sequence which tips its hat (literally) to both Gene Kellyand Fred Astaire, and it was comforting to see that these youngsterscan do it the old-fashioned way too.I thought the 3D was often really effectively used.If you don't care for the dancing, the movie just about reaches "O.K."If you do, though, then you are one of the people it was made for, andyou'll love it.

Great 3D Experience

This review is from: Step Up 3 (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I don't have much experience with 3D TV, but Step Up 3D was a great 1st experience with our new 3D TV we got for a family Christmas Gift. I bought the movie for my daughter mainly, but the whole family has enjoyed the dancing and 3D effects in this movie. The acting is not that good, but the dancing and 3D is worth it.

Jonny Fendi 2012-05-04 03:42:30

The Dance Experience is Top-Notch

I feel like I just got home from a live concert, a good one! It givesyou non-stop dance action since the opening credits roll. There arethree important things that make thiz movie looks awesome: brilliantchoreography, explosive music and terrific funky costume. About thepredecessor itself, the rising star Channing Tatum took the first stepin "Step Up" in 2006 which it was kind of conservative and boring. In2008, Briana Evigan made a remarkable and memorable image via "Step Up2: The Streets". Previous character the skinny and curly kid RobertAlexander III or we simply call him: Moose is swing back into actionwith Luke (Rick Malambri) and Briana Evigan's look-alike, Natalie(Sharni Vinson). Together, they team-up with other passionate dancersincluding The Robotic Dance Master, Vladd (Chadd Smith) along withstunning harmonious Freestylers The Santiago Twins (Martin and FacundoLombard) and others. They called themselves "Pirates", in order tocompete on World Dance Jam contest. The Director is John M. Chu who hasalso directed the 2nd incredible movie. Let me summarize it for you,the storyline and conflict are zero and the dance experience istop-notch! It's just like watching music video clips, we actually putaside the story and just enjoying the visual delight and great music, that's it! That's how we can take benefit from thiz kind of genre. TheDance scenes look wonderful, not just the choreography but also thecamera movement and additional effect as well, like: splashing water, powder mist, illuminated neon costume etc. They try to push beyond theboundaries in new creativity of dance revolution. I never talked abouttechnical factor on my review before, but I had to say thiz one couldbe the best 3D experience since "Avatar" (2009). I want to watch overand over again, we could almost think they're not coming from thizplanet! Maybe Luke is right, they are 'BFAB', simply Born From ABoomBox! Fantastic 3D Good Dancing Terrible Story

The movie is a cliché and the story is just terrible. I can't imagine that anyone likes this plot other than teenage girls who find the lead cute. The 3D however is outstanding and the dancing is really fun to watch. This is a good example of 3D Blu-ray if you are looking for something to watch in the format. My wife really enjoyed this title because of the modern dance.

georgia g 2012-05-01 19:18:19

Not as good as 1 or 2

The movie was ok. The plot and story line was kind of weak. The dancing was not as good as the Streets, but it was fun to watch and entertaining. I love the fact they tried to center the movie around Moose who tries to jugle dancing and college, but the writers could have done better on that part. The graphs and visuals were great. It was a fun movie. I enjoyed it.

Stumbling backwards...

The first in the `Step Up' series was a clever take on familiar themes that layered enough charisma and attention grabbing dance moves to make it wholly enjoyable and highly memorable. The second film was a bit too copycat like, but it was still exciting in ways and offered up some fresh new dance sequences. This `3D' disaster is just completely uncalled for. Offering a plot that is equal parts copycat and equal parts preposterously absurd, `Step Up 3D' overdoes the films initial objective to death and creates an unapologetically lame entry into a series that was, for the most part, quite fun. The dance sequences utilize the 3D technology rather well, but I hate films that make it so obvious they are TRYING to be 3D. Honestly, I'm waiting for this current craze to die down, since I don't feel like wearing glasses every time I go to the movies, and when a film is made to be seen as 3D in the manner that `Step Up 3D' is, it is almost a requirement. Watching it at home without the glasses actually makes the film annoyingly obvious. With that said, I found that too many of the films choreography was ripped from the second film, as well with a lot of the staging of those scenes, and the overall plot was so empty headed that it made watching it a chore. I don't mind light hearted romps, but I hate stupid movies. This movie is just stupid. Oh, and what a waste of dancing talent. How in the world could they delegate truly admirable dancers (who graced the `So You Think You Can Dance' stage) to mere supporting roles with no real highlight of their talent? I mean, you make `So You Think You Can Dance' champ Joshua dress like a robot and dance in a public restroom? That whole scene (not to mention the correlating video camera scene taking place in the club) was just ridiculous. In fact, this whole movie is ridiculous.

Who is that little girl?

This review is from: Step Up 3 (Three-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) I'm a fan of 3D, and I bought this movie based on the enthusiastic reviews of its use of 3D. I wasn't disappointed, and I've always liked dance and dance music so the movie entertained me. I have to say, though, that the little girl who appears briefly in the Final Jam and during the credits, was IMHO the best dancer of them all. She had attitude in spades, and her performance was, as they say, worth the price of admission.
