Romantic sparks occur between two dance students from different backgrounds at the Maryland School of the Arts.

We have taken some photos of "Step Up 2: The Streets". They represent actual movie quality.
Its a film about dance...but unlike the 80's, where films about dancewere, although not that great, loved due to their element of campy fun,(I'm sure 'Footloose' wasn't intended to be a groundbreaking reflectionof the struggles of American youth)step up 2 is actually just a reallybad film, which happens to be about dance. Kind of like when they makea really bad film which happens to be about rapping, or a really badfilm which happens to be about gangs...its in that vein of things. The first problem lies with the fact that this film is actually called'step up 2 the streets' and lacks punctuation in the main film title(very thankful for IMDb to actually use the initiative to include ahyphen). Anyways the 'film' itself is crying out for one keyingredient...a script. They say that there's only a certain amount ofstory lines in the world, this film very much backs up this theory. Iwonder, where have i seen this scenario before? Save the last dance?you've been served? Honey?...no seriously my mind's gone blank...wherecould a dance-off/turf war/love story combo have possibly been includedin a movie before? curious.Apart from the storyline/characters/dialogue epitomising everything Icould possibly loath in a movie neatly rolled into one, its the reverseracism in this film thats my main problem. Did the makers not think'hmmm...we might offend young black men by portraying them ascontrolling, criminal, aggressive members of society who's only purposein life is turf war..but hey, why not take the risk'...which they did,and unbelievably enough it also manages to be racist towardseveryone..young white kids too... by making the entire cast look likeilliterate baggy-trouser-wearing ridiculous-hand-gesture laughable-oneliner idiots. The horrific use of slang is mind-numbingly awful, and the wardrobeguys really didn't need to make everyone look so er 'bright'. Plotitself involves young, poor white girl from the hood with a black legalguardian (powerful!), and her story..in the world of dance. oh did imention there's a turf war? not a social reflection...just a bit naff.Dancing was good though.
This movie gets a 7 in my book, and sure some of you may find thisovertly and outrageously generous but I'm commending solely the powerof the climactic dance scenes. This movie, just like Step Up (towardswhich I have similar feelings) has some of the most atrocious actingI've ever seen, and the ill-placed jokes were slightly less thantotally idiotic. The tried-and-true method of uncanny coincidentalrun-ins is getting a little worn, also. So if you manage to ignore thiscrucial mistake, I promise you may actually enjoy the vibrant twistsand turns of some of the best choreography I've ever seen in a dancefilm.
Andie (Evigan) joins a highly sophisticated school and once entered inan extremely difficult dance class, her friends and dance group the 410turn their back on her.Though labelled as Step Up 2, this 2007 music drama is not a directsequel to the previous fan winning picture. Having never seen theoriginal, comparisons will be short here but in full honesty, I flickedthis film on for a light hearted viewing knowing full well it wasclassed as a casual flick and starring some attractive young stars withsome modern day hit singles, it was sure to be popcorn entertainment, but no.If you have seen the trailer for this Jon Chu picture you will havenoticed some eccentric dance moves, some visible drama and heard FloRida's previous smash Low. All fine elements combining for a goodtrailer and promising picture but don't let this take you for granted.Step Up 2 is a film made purely for profit. There is no point, there isno deep meaning, and sadly there is hardly entertainment to speak of.Encoded with chart singles and upcoming stars, it is a vehicle forwardfor the cast and crew. Starting off with a bizarre dance battle and we see sullen centralcharacter Briana Evigan lose a dance battle and is forced to go toschool and she is instantly an outcast who brings her own flair andinstantly likes the hottest most talented guy and blah, blah, blah. It's your typical story with modern music and stereotype gloss over, afilm for "the hood" or "the chavs" was an accurate review given by thecritics, which is reasonable enough. There is too much slang to make out what was proper English, theclothes are all hoodies and awful tracksuits aimed to represent thedifficult culture when all it does is make the characters look baggyand scruffy rather than emotionally strained as the shabby script seemsto depict them. The acting is terrible, complete stone faced twitter that expresseslittle emotion. Adam G Sevani brings the odd spark as appropriatelynamed Moose but the leads are a very basic form of Romeo and Juliet, who obviously don't know it.If there is one reason to watch this, it is the dancing. When lookingat classic music dramas such as Saturday Night Fever we see an era ofclassic and surprise. Here the dancing justifies the modern culture, break dancing away from the normality and past into a brand new phaseof life. The choreography is superb and the rain dance sequence, thoughruined by the most ridiculous inspirational speech ever to gracecinema, is otherwise a shocking surprise to this otherwise faulty andflat picture.
I don't know about that...but it had its own edge and the dancing was,as they say, SICK.Premise: Tyler's (Channing Tatum from Step Up in a cameo)foster sisterhas grown up and her mother has died leaving her with her mother'sfriend to raise. Andie runs the streets with the 410 (dance) crew andconstantly gets into trouble and could be shipped off to Texas...oh,no!! Tyler gets her an audition at his alma mater the Maryland Schoolfor the Arts and fish-out-of-water-clashes ensue. As I like to say, the movie has heart and that counts for a lot. Plus, the dancing is sick. They definitely know how to take a basicgirl-meets-guy-but-can't-be-together plot and make it work even if it'spretty standard stuff. The best was seeing Jabbawokeez, winners of he first "season" ofAmerica's Best Dance Crew.An epic dance crew competition started from this movie on YouTubebetween Miley Cyrus and her friend and Adam Sevani who played Moose.Just for that, it's a pop culture phenomenon.
First of all, I did not go in expecting a great movie... maybesomething like Save the Last Dance. But I was BLOWN AWAY by the all-outamazing dancing and equally amazing talents of the cast. Most of all Iliked that the story was very focused on Andie's independence andspecial-ness. I was very impressed with the artistic merits of thefilm- super job, Jon Chu. Great chemistry between Briana Evignan andRobert Hoffman had my eyes glued on the screen when they weren'tdancing, and I have to admit the acting was very good, even ifone-dimensional for most of the supporting cast. I loved that thedirection of the movie focused on the story without distracting with"artistic directional use of lens"... Even though the ending waspredictable, it was SO unpredictably good!!!
This movie is all about the dance, it has much more dance sequencesthan Step Up, Save the last Dance; and they are stunning! The story is a bit predictable, the typical "girl from the neighborhoodthat comes to a fancy school...". The acting is OK, the main actress(Briana Evigan) did a good job and I really liked Adam G. Sevani, asMoose. The male lead (Robert Hoffman) for me was the weakest on themain cast.But... The dancing is AMAZING! The coreographies are great and reallycomplex. The dancers are awesome (for example Robert Hoffman who wasthe weakest in acting, his dancing was amazing)! Great Break Danceevery five minutes of the movie!!!So, if you want to see a movie with great dancing, this is it!
I probably would never have ended up seeing this film if my friend andI hadn't ended up missing a screening of Juno that we wanted to go to,and she hadn't been asking me about going to see it earlier. For ateenager, I like to think of myself as having pretty good taste inmovies most of the time. This, not having been my choice, took me outof my comfort zone a lot, since it had virtually little or no substance(and more than a few potentially offensive stereotypes, as with theAsian girl, and especially the black and Hispanic characters). There isnothing to spoil, because you will probably be able to predict everysingle thing that happens, whether or not you have seen many films ofthis nature. Of course, that's hopefully not why you bought the ticket. You came to see amazing hip-hop routines matched with all the hottestnew dance tracks. This certainly delivers on that, though you have towait awhile for a completely uninterrupted step sequence. In short, agood easy way to spend an afternoon with a friend or significant other, but it's just as easy to spend $7.15 to rent the DVD or go to seesomething else.
The follow-up to the smash hit Step Up is an electrifying tale ofbodies, hearts and dreams in motion. Rebellious newcomer Andie (BrianaEvigan)is an outcast street dancer trying to fit in at the elite Schoolof the Arts. Chase (Robert Hoffman) is the school's red hot talent anda rising star. Both want to win the biggest, baddest street dancingbattle, "The Streets", and they might just do it if they team up.As the gifted dancers clash and battle, Andie must learn to build abridge between love and loyalty, between who she is and who shebelieves she can be. It's time to Step Up! I honestly didn't think I'd like this movie but I thought it was great! The dancing is AMAZING and the acting was good too. This was neversupposed to be an intelligent movie so I wish people would stopover-analyzing - just sit back and enjoy! The characters were so lovable - especially Moose, Kido and Missy - andI think it's important to have characters that everyone can relate to.Best quote of the movie: "That's not how we do it. This ain't HighSchool Musical!" Best scene of the movie: When Moose shows Andie he can dance for thefirst time.10/10 definitely.
Before writing this,I gave this movie a 5,and that was ONLY because ofthe dance moves.Everything else is just wrong. The chemistry between themain characters, the acting of ALL the characters, the lame dialogues andgenerally-the story. Really, haven't we seen this, like,a thousand times?oh,she's poor, she's so good and perfect, but she has no luck, and all thesudden-BOOM,she meets this hot, blond, popular guy and,of course,he fallsin love with her. Then, they have some problems-just to spice up thestory-blah,blah,happy ending.totally PREDICTABLE. The movie wouldprobably seem perfect for a naive 12 or 13 year old.It may even looklike a fairytale. For everyone over, this is a waste of time. But,when itcomes to dancing,it's breathtaking and it makes this movie. It makes iteven worth watching.Pay attention to the last scenes when they dance inthe rain.Congratulations for the dancing, cause that's all worthy here.
Step Up 2 The streets was such an amazing movie. The dancing was socool the way they did it. The dance scenes that they did were in alldifferent types of areas. There was also a love story to it a littlebit. The love story was very good though and fit right in with thestory of the movie. I thought that it was better than the first step upbecause it was very different and wasn't the same at all. The acting init was pretty good as well. I didn't think that their would be much ofa story to it but their was. It made you want to get up and clap andcheer for the dancers in it. The dancers in it did a great job dancingas well, and learning how to dance. The end of this movie had very longdance scenes as well and seemed like it was never going to end whichwas a good thing. I thought that this was a great dance movie and wasperfect for Valentines Day.
I think it's in "fluff pieces" where stereotypes are particularlydangerous. The movie claimed that it wanted to showcase how dance andhip-hop transcend cultural and class barriers, but the plot only servedto highlight and exploit these divisions. I hold the writers moreresponsible for this missed opportunity than the director, though. Afew simple plot changes would have given the storyline the level ofemotional intelligence that even a cartoon deserves. It's easy tobelieve that observations like this will only fall on deaf ears, but Ihope more people (in audiences and in the movie industry) will be lessnaive whenever another studio decides to mass-market such ignorance.
I saw the movie yesterday, and am going to see it again! Why? It wasexcellent!! From the start to the amazing finish, it was awesome. Thedancing in the movie was beyond SICK. I mean, the choreographers shouldbe given a cut of the profits. THAT'S HOW SICK THE DANCING WAS! Somepeople want dialogue/substance to a movie. But Step Up 2 was aD-A-N-C-E movie. Who cares if they can act their way to an Oscarnomination? Who pays hard-earned money to go see a D-A-N-C-E movie, thinking they're going to get great dialogue? This was definitely WAYbetter than the first. The only other dance routine on par with anything this movie offered, was the "Double or Nothing" scene in "Stomp the Yard" (but I'm stillthinking there's gotta be something from "You Got Served"). And theother recent dance movie "How She Move" was very good, but NOT ENOUGHdancing (Step Up 2 DID NOT have this problem). So, why only 9 out of 10? Only because of a specific scene in themovie. So, there ya have it. A more-than-satisfied customer.
Saddled with a screenplay that wouldn't earn a passing grade in aCinema 101 course, "Step Up 2 the Streets" is an urban fairy tale aboutan orphaned crew dancer (Briana Evigan) from the 'hood who is acceptedinto the Maryland School of the Arts. But can she find a home with theassortment of geeks, preppies and classically-trained arty types whoattend the school? And can she succeed as a student without turning herback on her "homies" from the old neighborhood? Or will she be forcedto form her own crew from dancers at the school to compete with the BigBoys out on the streets? You can write the script yourself, but the key selling-point of thissequel to "Step Up" - sort of a mash-up of "Fame," "Footloose" and"School of Rock" - is clearly not the storytelling but the dancing. Andin that respect it delivers the goods. So ignore the predictableplotting, the tinny dialogue, the corny inspirational speeches, thewafer-thin characters, the obligatory montage sequences and theamateurish acting, and simply revel in the moves, street-dance orotherwise, that permeate the film. It's not much in the way ofcompensation, I know, but at least it's better than nothing.
I certainly didn't have high expectations for this movie, but I figuredthe dancing would be fun. My expectations were exceeded, WAY exceeded.Sure it has a predictable plot and it's nothing more than aright-side-of-the-tracks/wrong-side-of-the-tracks love story (Pretty inPink, West Side Story, Romeo & Juliet, etc.), but the dancing wasreally incredible. I'm way older than the target audience and yet Ithoroughly enjoyed this movie. If you're looking for groundbreaking plot, acting, or directing, youwon't find it here. But the acting/directing was just fine, and thedancing was stellar. If you're concerned with the acting, I guess thatwould be like going to an action movie and judging it based on theacting rather than the action.
The story lacks substance, but I did not see the movie for story... Isaw it for the dancing and the dancing was great. I love all dancemovies though. This was definitely the movie with the best dancing, butnot necessarily the best storyline. Take the Lead was a better story, but the dancing could not compare. The new characters were cool too. They had pretty good chemistry. The movie kept me totally entertainedthe whole time even though it was totally predictable. Like I said thedancing was what I wanted to see and I was not at all disappointed. Thelast 15 minutes of the movie made it definitely worth an hour and ahalf of my time. If you like dancing you'll love it... if you don'tthen you won't!
I admit I was a little skeptical of this movie, seeing as I was such abig fan of the first movie. I was however pleasantly surprised: The story line wasn't quite as tacky as I had thought it would be andit did have its own unique style.Although the music and acting wasn't nearly as good. At times it seemeda little overdone! It seemed as though the script and the actors weretrying to way over dramatise everything and it kind of spoiled theintensity that made Step Up such a brilliant movie. I think overdramatising it made it a little monotonous and confusing because itleft the audience wondering "Ok so what exactly is the issue here" or"Wow is everything just wrong in this world". Overall though, I would say it is worth watching but I would recommendyou thinking of it as a movie of its own and not a sequel as I believeit will make it all the more enjoyable to the viewer. It is definitelya bit of a feel good film, in a slightly corny way. But NOT at allcomparable to the original if you ask me.
I hear a lot of people saying that part two is nothing compared to thefirst one, but i had to see for myself if the rumors were true. Andwhat i found out was - they weren't! I absolutely loved the movie. Thedancing was amazing, the main character was pretty and talented, thesoundtracks were great. Although the part where the MSA crew weredancing outside in the rain was kinda unreal. Watching them jump androll on the asphalt was totally unreal. I mean they would've hurtthemselves so much if they did that in real life! But other than that ithink it's an excellent movie. But it's not so much about love like thefirst part. Here it's more about dancing and love to dance.
Great dancing... too bad they could afford the choreographer, butskimped out on the good actors, I know I shouldn't have watched thisfilm, I didn't like the first Step Up movie, what in the worldpossessed me to watch the sequel? My friends and I were bored andneeded a movie to watch and since a couple of my girlfriends are justdie hard fans of the first Step Up, they were dying to see the sequel.I think this was just a horribly written movie and so badly acted, it'sthe same plot recycled from the first Step Up, only this time it's withthe girl who's the trouble maker and the guy is the preppy rich kid. They just couldn't do anything original or even classy... as much as Ienjoyed the dancing, there were some incredible moves, this was meantto be a movie, not just a tutorial on how to dance, good dance moves donot make a good movie.Andie is apart of a dance crew who not only dance great, but they alsocause disruption in society and are wanted by all the police. Andie'sguardian gives her one more chance to straighten up and sends her to apreppy dance school where she meets the kids who dance "properly". Butwhen her crew finds out where she's been going, they kick her out, buta preppy dancer encourages her to start her own crew and invitesothers, but the teacher gets angry when the streets are threatened anddamage school property, the teacher threatens expulsion to anyone whois apart of the street dance.Step Up 2 the Streets is definitely for those who enjoy these dancemovies, but for me, nothing stood out any different from any otherdance movie. This is a rental or just a skip, I feel bad because Ididn't want to see this movie, but I will give it it's chops for agreat ending dance sequence, these kids were absolutely amazing andtheir timing was on, I can't believe how well it was performed. Overall this isn't by any means a horrible movie, but the acting and storyjust make it a non watchable film, just fast forward to the dancesequences, that's the only entertainment of the film.2/10
Luv this series. Luv the dancing. When you want to escape...just pop this in and be ready to groove out of your mind! Really cool movie!!
Robert Hoffman doesn't deserve to be in The main characters role forthe next Step up Film.Briana Evigan is quite good though.I thinkChanning Tatum Should Get back the Main role in the next Step Up Movie. He dances better and he suites well as a main character,I'm not sayingthat Hoffman doesn't dance well.He dances well but i just think thatTatum is better. He is the right guy to be in a movie like this notHoffman. No offense to Hoffman's fans but i think he is a guy who likesto showoff not only in the movie step up2 but also in the movie she'sthe man.He always think he's best at everything which is good thoughbut he's too cocky.Do You guys agree with me?
