Brennan Huff and Dale Doback are both about 40 when Brennans mom and Dales dad marry. The sons still live with the parents so they must now share a room. Initial antipathy threatens the households peace and the parents relationship. Dad lays down the law both slackers have a week to find a job. Out of the job search and their love of music comes a pact that leads to friendship but more domestic disarray compounded by the boys sleepwalking. Hovering nearby are Brennans successful brother and his lonely wife the brother wants to help sell his step-fathers house, the wife wants Dales attention, and the newlyweds want to retire and sail the seven seas. Can harmony come from the discord?
This movie was your the typical movies you get from these guys. The humor was crude, with little to no creativity behind it. The acting was great considering what the movie was about. To be honest if you didn't like any of the other movies this duo, or just will Farrel for that matter did, you will not like this movie. The only reason I gave it three stars is a did laph my face off on one or two parts of the movie.
Will Ferrel is kind of hit and miss for me. I thought Anchorman was notso good but not complete shite. I really enjoyed Blades of Glory. Ihave no doubt that some people will think two grown men acting likethirteen-year-olds is hilarious and to be honest some parts wereamusing, but all in all this movie disturbed me.The basic plot is man meets woman, man and woman both havethirty-year-old sons who live with them and are juvenile, woman movesin with man, sons don't like each other. That's it really. there's a bit about Will Ferrell's younger brotherbeing successful and a dick but...I didn't watch till the end coz honestly it got a bit boring and thecomic aspect gets tired but I don't think it could go from mediocre tobrilliant in twenty minutes or so. It's really just the same WillFerrell concept.
Step Brothers - 2008 had caught my attention a long time before it cameout because of Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly, especially afterTalladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby (2006) in which both ofthem intertwined superbly. The fact is, in Step Brothers, both WillFerrell and John C. Reilly are still very good. They can still makepeople laugh from the beginning to the end. The plot is basicallyinteresting enough to set up a condition for Will and John to playbaby. The filming is okay which virtually has nothing to be criticized. However this movie kind of received many opposite comments. Many peoplelike it because of many laugh-out-loud scenes (fighting, cursing, struggling, sexing, etc). And some scenes are more like theatricalcomedy with a lot of funny lines/quotes that I like. But some peopledidn't really like this movie. I guess the flow of the episodes upsetsome audience. I also feel that the director can either make it betterin some way or the plot can be changed a little bit by adding orreducing characters. I think after Step Brothers, there will soon be atruly better movie with both Will and John.
These guys are soooo funny! Great movie. A must have to add to your collection.
The IMDb guide says that this movie is a comedy. Doesn't that mean thatI was supposed to laugh at it? Maybe it's something to do with Americanhumour (or should that be humor?) but there wasn't one single pointduring this total waste of 98 minutes of my valuable life that I evenso much as smiled! What are the chances of two people meeting, fallingin love (or was it merely lust?), getting married and finding that theyeach have a son in his forties who has the mental age of afirst-grader? I wondered if the two sons (Farrell and Reilley) hadactually been first-graders, whether the story might have been morebelievable and, dare one hope, funnier. I decided it wouldn't! Thosetwo "men" (sorry guys, I realise that's a bit of an insult to the adultmale gender) ought to have been in institutions and, maybe, the wholemovie changed its genre to one where the parents worked together tomake the world a better place for such unfortunate people. Then there was the gratuitous profanity from just about every characterfor the entire duration. I am lost for words to attempt to comment onthat - other than to say it served absolutely no useful purposewhatsoever! In my movie collection, I have a copy of the originalsilent version of "Nosferatu" and "Santa With Muscles" (another fairlypathetic waste of time - mine and the film-makers), but THIS has totake the prize for being the worst movie I have EVER seen. I can onlyassume that there are people out there who obviously have some sort ofempathy with the characters of Step Brothers and who saw something inthis travesty to make them laugh. They have my abject sympathy! I wish I had spent the 98 minutes watching my front lawn grow! It wouldhave been a LOT more fun! Why doesn't IMDb have an option to award amovie zero because it certainly isn't worth 1?Suggestion: Add an extra text screen at the beginning of "StepBrothers" stating clearly that anyone with an IQ higher than 40 shouldnot watch it!
"Step Brothers" has everything which is needed to be a great comedy.Ferrel and John Reilly, to begin with. With such good actors how canyou destroy a film like this? it's easy: drop the gags into the moviewithour any imaginative plot, thinking that all the pop corn lovers aregoing to laugh anyway...well, it seems to be the case, as the votesindicate most people liked this piece of crap. Well, the first 10minutes (sorry, I meant 5 ) are excellent. I begun watching the moviewith great hope to have great fun...but after the first half hour, theresult was a boring consecution of stupid jokes supported by extremelygood actors who by themselves, could eventually save the film. Well, ifyou liked this film, happy you! I am absolutely disappointed. I wonderwhere is American Comedy directing nowadays...
Stupid and insipid. Will Ferrell's shtick is growing very old and very predictable. 90 minutes of toilet humor and (very) foul language targeted for the male audience around the age of 15. You would need to work very hard to make a movie this moronic. It's junk like this which encapsulates the dysfunction in society today. A total waste of time and money. BnB Beatles Depot
This review is from: Step Brothers Unrated (Amazon Instant Video) i can literally quote it word by word and it never ceases to make me laugh.i have watched this at least 30 times.
This review is from: Step Brothers (2-Disc Unrated Edition) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Funniest movie ive seen, great cast stupidly funny story all in all a laughtrip for evrybody...kids and adults alike. Greqt movie, buy it now or youll regret it later
This review is from: Step Brothers (Two-Disc Unrated Edition) (DVD) This is a hilarious movie. Make it unrated, and it gets even better. Throw in a bonus disc, and you have turned Gold into...um..something better than Gold. The DVD is well worth the price, and the bonus disc has lots of great features. Unfortunately, there are several versions of this with their own unique deleted scenes and extras. There fore, if you want them all, your gonna have to buy them all, and have several copies of the movie laying around. All in all, this one is a great one to have.. Unfortunately the digital copy is expired.
If you like Will Ferrell at all, I suggest you see this movie. I wentinto this movie expecting to turn it off within 30 minutes. I have beendisappointed in many Will Ferrell movies in the past, Blades Of Glory,Elf, Talledega Nights, etc, but this one was a joy to watch! I trulylaughed so many times watching this. The idea is funny and it staysfunny, except for about a 15 minute time towards the end (which is onpar with any comedy movie as they have to "wrap up" the story). Seethis movie if you like to laugh! Hell, just see it to see Will Ferrellact like he's sleep-walking. That's funny enough in itself. There areplenty hilarious "one-liners" and I could go on and on. After so many"comedies" not actually turning out funny, this one did not let medown.
This review is from: Step Brothers Unrated [HD] (Amazon Instant Video) Guilt-free kid joy only at the age of 40. The brothers work off of each other as though they really had lived together after being forced into an unwanted family. Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly were perfectly cast.
Before viewing this movie - I really wanted it to be funny, but themovie is just another shamefully unimaginative promotion driven flick.Talladega Nights was funny with the product-integration, because NASCARreally is full of advertising. It seems every Will Ferrell movie thoughhas countless shameless advertisements plugged into the script - itreally takes away from the already paper thin script, which leavesnothing to the imagination. This is another movie where they degradethemselves to male nudity (as they did in "WALK HARD") it's uncalledfor and played out. After seeing this I am convinced Will Ferrell is init only for the money at this stage of his career. Do not waste yourmoney on this film, or 90 minutes of your day.
This movie was horrible on SOOOOOO many levels. The worst was how totallack of respect for your parents is not only tolerated, but in somecases deemed acceptable. I became so incensed at how the infantileantics of these two 40 something losers were celebrated I had to turnthe thing off. It is really sad what Hollywood has decided is comedythese days   .More and more it seems that bad behavior and disrespect to others hasbeen deemed acceptable and, in some cases, preferred behavior. Do filmmakers even think about the message they may be putting out there?Parents have enough to handle without Hollyweird adding to our alreadyfull repertoire.
Buy this movie. It is hysterical - seriously funny. Really. If you do not think this movie is funny - you are not a funny person.
OK...I found a few laughs on this one, the asbestos scene and otherscenes where the parents are trying to sell the house, but overall itrather glorifies being an immature and irresponsible dolt of a personand human being. Unfortunately, I know a fair share of older people whohave never left the nest. None of them are as big of goons as thesetwo, and much of it was due to the parents' lack of motivation to kickthem out as anything. Most of them were stoners rather than being stupid morons like thesetwo...or were just plain lazy to the nth degree. It seems like theseguys are idiots by choice as it seemed they could switch it off just intime to save the helicopter event. That was so much a stretch andcontrived that even suspension of disbelief didn't help. What were theodds of hiring a Billy Joel type band with another man-child as thelead singer that happened to go nuts at the big event...cripes! Areally bad revealing error at the end was when they went to finallytake on the kids...and as they charged upon them, you could easily seethey were 20-something and older stand-ins. I could only wonder if thatwas done on purpose it was so easy to spot. As for the song Will sangtoward the end...where oh where is Chuck Barris and his gong.I really liked Will Farrell in "Stranger than Fiction" but aside fromthat one wonderful role, he's sucked since his SNL days and has nevercome close to even Chevy Chase in ability. He reminded me more ofAlbert Brooks here, but even more annoying. To me, I see other countries seeing this film and quite believably sothinking we're all rather like these two morons. I look around and dosee a lot of similarities to these guys and those who would truly likethis miserable film or identify with the characters.
This review is from: Step Brothers (Two-Disc Unrated Edition) (DVD) This is probably one of my favorite movies because I find it really funny. I have never been disappointed by a movie with Will Ferrell in it. The movie was great to watch and the special features were really good too, lots and lots of hilarious scenes :)
My husband and I watch this movie a few times a year and have done sosince it came out on DVD. Saw it when it came out at the theater and mystomach hurt from laughing so much. We quote this movie constantly.Almost daily,in fact. If you do not think this movie is funny then youhave no sense of humor. If you do not quote this movie or recognize aquote from this movie then you are a loser with no sense of humor.Itreally is a super funny movie. How many times can you say that a movieis funny? I guess enough to meet the ten line minimum to write a reviewon IMDb. I am trying not to pad this review. Do you think its okay thatthis review isn't movie quality? We are headed out to The CheesecakeFactory to have some drinks.
This review is from: Step Brothers (Single-Disc Unrated Edition) (DVD) I bought this on DVD to own. It always comes on tv & I wanted to have it to own. So many funny lines! If you're a Will Ferrell fan, get it.
I have to say that the Judd Apatow/Adam Mckay movies are taking a bitof a downward turn lately. I loved Anchorman, and this doesn't quitemeasure up. Rent it, don't buy it. There are some decent laughs but notas many as I expected there to be. I truly was hoping for a lot more. Ihear things like "Best comedy of the year" and I was compelled to buyit. I think most of these movie critics have been living in a hole andhaven't seen a decent comedy yet. I was more disappointed with TropicThunder though. Like I said, rent it. Don't expect what Anchormandelivered. I actually got a few more good laughs from Talladega Nights, which should say something.
