Very bad...

This was one of those films for which I used Blockbuster's "If you don'tlike it, we'll give you a free rental" policy. This film was no more thanavery bad attempt to clone the success of films like Naked Gun 1 and 2(whichbtw are very good). Unfortunately this film failed miserably. I gave it a2out of 10...If you have not seen Naked Gun 1 or 2 than I recommend those instead...ifyou have, then there is no point of seeing this one.

Not As Good As NAKED GUN

SPY HARD starts with an in joke of having Mr T pilot a helicopter andthat`sabout as sophisticated as the film gets . It`s a spy spoof withrefferancesto IN THE LINE OF FIRE , SPEED , PULP FICTION etc and even includes a slynod to FELLOWSHIP OF THE THE RING years before that movie was filmed ! .Leslie Nielson does his Frank Drebin routine under the surrogate name ofDick Steel . It`s entertaining enough but does get very silly in placesandnever gets close to the hilarity of THE NAKED GUN series

Spy hard? more like Dire Hard

Leslie Nielsen is one of my favorite comedy actors of all time, butunfortunately he doesn't seem to be able to find decent scripts to supporthis talent these days.Spy Hard comes across as an attempt to build on the wonderful Naked Gunseries, but it doesn't come close. The plot is basically a rehash of theNaked Gun formula but without any of the elements that made Naked Gunfunny.It was difficult to find anything to laugh at in this film, indeed theonlybit in the film i laughed at was the fight scene where Agent WD-40 isrecieving a beating when suddenly who should tag in but Hulk Hogan. Ofcourse, not even the Hulkster is tough enough to defeat the goons so intags...a granny! That had me rolling on the floor laughing.Unfortunately, one joke is no reason to watch a film, and Spy Hardcertainly isn't worth watching. For fans of the Naked Gun/Airplane stylecomedy, i reccomend Mafia! - that is a great film. Spy Hard isnot.Therefore i give Spy Hard 1 out of 10, and it only get sone for the HulkHogan sequence.

Astoundingly unfunny

The credits sequence with "Weird Al" Yankovic is the only bit worthwatching. Save yourself the Blockbuster night and just watch it on hisDVDvideo collection and pass on this movie. A tired collection of fartjokesand name puns pass for wit in this alleged comedy. Dick Steele, AgentWD-40? Puh-leeze. The able cast is also hampered by terrible pacing andwhat looks like last-minute editing and over-dubbing to avoid a lawsuitbyGeneral Motors. (And you had wondered why General Mortars was the onlynon-pun name in the bunch.) I'm betting Andy Griffith doesn't have thisoneon his resume'. If you want to see a quality Bond/spy spoof, try theDerekFlynt movies with James Coburn or even the first Austin Powers flick.Nomatter how hard it begs, do not pull this movie's finger.

It's like Naked Gun 0 1/2

While Spy Hard is nowhere near as funny as the Naked Gun movies, or even asfunny as Wrongfully Accused, it has enough laughable moments to make itworth at least some of your money. Okay, I'll be honest, it's only worthabout $1.50 of your money. Coincidentally, that's exactly how much I spentseeing it. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's worth my money,but probably not yours. Weird Al's theme song is just about the best thingsabout Spy Hard, but there were some other good moments post openingcredits.If you want a really good James Bond spoof, Austin Powers: International ManOf Mystery is still the ticket. However, I'd still take Spy Hard over eitherof the horrible Austin Powers sequels.And if you're saying to yourself: "Self, I just can't believe a really oldlooking guy playing a James Bond type character" then I would say that youclearly never saw Roger Moore in A View To A Kill!SPY HARD= 5/10.WEIRD AL'S THEME SONG= 10/10.LESLIE NEILSEN PULLING OFF AN ELDERLY JAMES BOND CHARACTER BETTER THAN ROGERMOORE IN "A VIEW TO A KILL"= 9/10

Bad Choice Leslie

The movie is pretty funny but it feels to much like Naked Gun, andespecialywhen Leslie himself is in it.The story didn't feel much worked out and fell like old jokes init.3 out of 10

Ripoff of Spoofs on Real Movies

Some movie director's make spoofs on real movies and some just makeripoff's of those spoofs. This is one of the latter.I popped this in because i, like many of the people who watched theNaked gun series (and Airplane and Scary Movies) loved the way theZucker Abrams director team made incredible comedy with Leslie Nielson.But this movie was directed by entirely different people, who had noqualms about totally ripping off those comic geniuses and what's moreegregious- failing to be funny! Just don't waste your time- there arestill plenty of great comedies with outrageous Leslie Nielson playingthe same exact character that are actually bearable to watch.Unfortunately this is not one of them.

I just love this movie.

Although I am a big Leslie Nielsen fan, you don't have to even know who heis to laugh hysterically at this one. First of all, I love the feel of thismovie. The Secret Service headquarters is just full of secret crannies whereweirdos are hiding. Especially the director's office. You always findsomething goofy hidden in there.In addition to Nielsen's trademark spotlight-stealing sight gags, there aremany subtle insults, including the use of the Disney Animation Studio façadeas the establishing exterior shot of the Agency headquarters (you can seethe Seven Dwarfs in the architecture), and the fact that Agent 3.14, inaddition to her number being pi, speaks with a huge French accent, eventhough she's Russian. I particularly love the character of Coleman. I alwayslaugh when he sees the Rancor tape and utters a Bostonese "GooedGwad!".The characters are great in this. There is Steele's trusty sidekick Kabul(who has a different car in every scene), and Andy Griffith is an excellentvillain. One of the best parts of this movie is Weird Al Yankovic's openingtitle song (spoofing Thunderball's).For goodness' sakes, rent it if you haven't seen it yet. WATCH FOR THOSECAMEOS!

SILLY AND KNOWS IT

First off,the "Bond" films which this movie perfectly spoofs,are laughable they just don't know it.This movie is silly and does know it,and it is hillarious,they could'nt have picked a better star than Nielsen he is one of the most funny,if not the most funny, men alive.Full of laughs definately catch this one,you will be glad you did.

WORST comedy I have seen to date, and I've seen a LOT of em.

This movie was EXTREMELY bad. The physical comedy and ingenious parodies that made movies like Naked Gun, Airplane, and Dracula: Dead and Loving It were ill-concieved, mostly recycled, and sometimes out-and-out bad. I cannot believe that Leslie Nielsen even DID this movie. Without his comedic talents, this movie could have actually been one of the worst EVER for ANY movie, rivaling Plan Nine from Outer Space.

Ugh

I had to give this film a star rating. I wish I could give it none.It was so painful to watch. I bought it on DVD since I last saw it whenI was a kid and I thought that it could make me laugh. Oh how wrong Iwas...It was a waste of £4...Which I could have bought a much bettermovie for.Leslie Nielsen is the only good part about this, oh and Griffith.Nielsen hasn't been in any descent stuff recently though. I want thatto change though since hes outstanding and very underrated. Lets hopesomeone realises this before he ends up like Lloyd Bridges...He too wasa great actor who was reduced to being letter-boxed as a slapstickcomedian-actor.I strongly urge against buying this unless you have a defect whichallows you to enjoy such trash.

funny leslie nielsen movie, but it's no naked gun

spy hard is a funny spoof starring laugh master leslie nielsen andwhile it's not as funny as his police squad works it has some greatlaughs none the less, there is virtually no plot just gag after gag,some fail, but most work, thankfuly its short running time doesn't letit get repetitive. we all know what to expect from a leslie nielsenmovie and spy hard delivers the usaul dose of leslie nielsen typecomedy, sure its of a certain taste but trust me when your in the mood,they deliver the goods. spy hard is a decent comedy and has enoughlaughs but trust me its no classic, but if your a leslie nielsen fan asi am, then it's definitely one for the collection.

The Best Of Leslie Nielsen.

No need to analyze the plot. Just go for the raid. Parodies, slapstick comedy and plain silliness. If you are in the right mood, it is incredibly funny.

Absolutely hilarious...

...And then Weird Al stopped singing! My recommendation would beto watch the opening credits and then stop it because it's just not funny.I've honestly never watched a parody movie that was less funny than this.None of the jokes worked!! If I were given one word to describe this movieit would have to be "lame." But, don't get me wrong! I usually love stupidhumor! There was just something truly wrong in this case! Spend your timemore wisely with "Airplane!", "Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein", or,if you want more Weird Al, go for "UHF." But remember, the movie's NOT acomplete waste: Weird Al's original song during the opening credits thatindirectly spoofs James Bond is an instant classic!

Leslie Nielson rips off practically every film you can think of - fromJames Bond to Jurassic Park. Every gag hits home perfectly. Although it'sreally just Naked Gun with a different name, this is still well worthwatching - so much that I registered a vote of 10 withIMDB.

I loved this movie! It is a must see for anyone with a slight sense of humor. I was rolling in the ailes, and Yankovic's theme blows me away (Pun intended!)

You have to be in the mood for dumb comedy: 3 1/2 stars

Okay, this is a dumb movie. What little plot there is only serves to connect a loosely arranged set of parodies and puns in true Leslie Nielsen form. However, if you're in the right mood, it can be a entertaining way to spend an hour and a half. Leslie Nielsen plays agent WD-40 who sets out to rescue agent Barbara Dahl (Stephanie Romanov) from the evil and prosthetic clutches of Doctor Rancor (Andy Griffith.) Beginning and end of story. Along the way, viewers are treated to send-ups of various movies and celebrity personalities. The humor is erratic, as the script is burdened with groaners and jokes that simply don't work as much as it is carried along with its laugh out loud moments. The sophomoric comedy often works because of the element of surprise: the best laughs come when the viewer is least expecting them. It helps if you're familiar with many of the films that "Spy Hard" parodies. The only brilliant part of this film is the Weird Al Yankovic segment during the opening credits. It is so funny on its own that it warms up the audience for more laughs. I don't think I would have been so willing to find humor in the silliness if Weird Al hadn't already started me laughing.This is pure sophomoric, spoof comedy in the spirit of National Lampoon and Saturday Night Live - all, of course, with the distinctive touch of Leslie Nielsen. Leave your intelligence at the door - and then settle down for some truly mindless, occasionally hilarious, comedy.

Typical Nielson

This James Bond spoof never accomplishes much and resorts to typicalLeslieNielson fare, with half-hearted laughs, and not enough to name the film"great," just like "Wrongfully Accused" and "Dracula: Dead and Loving It."Don't get me wrong, the film isn't awful by any account - it just isn'tgood enough to see twice. A "Naked Gun" it is not.2.5/5 stars - very average slapstick.John Ulmer
