Soul Plane Crashes Before Take Off

Hmph. Soul Plane supposed to be a "black comedy" spoof of a much wellknown movie, Airplane. This movie, is black comedy done at it's worst.Stereotypes can be funny, and a lot of times they are. But in thispicture, it's disgusting. Okay, you have clubs, sex, drugs, everythingcrude that people associate with "urban" culture today.Tom Arnold's appearance in this movie, is this movie's saving grace ifit ever had any. DL Hughley should have never accepted the script.Kevin Hart makes a poor leading figure here... his appearance in thismovie will probably grow annoying to many. Method Man and Snoop'sappearance were by far, their worst.I am just happy that I didn't pay to see this movie...

Great Weekend Flick

My friends and I sat around and watched this flick over the weekend and it was funny. Some parts where slow and boring, but the soundtrack was hot. I will buy this film to add to my collection. I would have given it 5 stars but it wasn't that funny.

S_Chambers_UK 2013-05-12 17:34:33

Extremely Underrated! This is not a bad movie!

... and that is coming from someone who has seen them all. This is avery good lighthearted feel good comedy if you just need a laugh orcheering up after a bad day. the soundtrack throughout the movie isEXCELLENT. The booty is TOP NOTCH. The laughs come think and fast! Itdoes not really have a direction or plot - but just go with it! Thecharacters are WELL thought out and extremely funny and colourful. Youreally feel for Kevin Hart - great acting. I hope to see the guy inmore leading roles. If you liked Friday or COMING TO America this flickis for you - and even if you did not like those films or have not seenthem - I would still check it out - let me ask you a question - do youknow when sometimes you watch a movie and there was just somethingabout it that really made it stand out or that you really liked eventhough outwardly it was not received by the public as being somethingout of the norm? THIS MOVIE HAS THAT. Peace.

Joey rents a movie: SOUL PLANE

Soul Plane could have used some more starpower and smarter jokes toactually take off, but instead (no offense to any African Americans),like every other "black" (no racial offenses to anyone intended) movie, this is powered by silly one-liners and odd situations that are indeedodd, and that is why most of them are not funny. This movie stars Kevin Hart and Tom Arnold. Yeah. If you can even callthem "stars". I would have chosen more wisely the cast. Cedric theEntertainer could have worked wonders here, and maybe Halle Berry couldhave done something as Giselle (I always thought Halle had potentialfor comedy after seeing Gothika, haha). The supporting cast is decent, including one of my favorite actresses, Sofia Vergara. I loved her inChasing Papi, and she is passable in this. I also love Mo'Nique andLoni Love. Now getting to the "comedy". This movie will make you smile, chuckle, and MAYBE laugh, but all of the slapstick and one-liners just fallflat. That is not to say they aren't funny at times, just not verysmart. The biggest problem I have with this movie is that THERE IS NOCONCLUSIVE POINT TO THE WHOLE DAMN MOVIE. It's basically like JessyTerrero took the actors, put them on a set, and said "DO WHATEVER YOUWANT, BUT MAKE IT FUNNY!". There is absolutely no story here at all.But you will hardly notice. Despite the unwittty one liners and dullcomedy, this is a fun movie to watch.BOTTOM LINE: See this movie if you are A.) Under 21B.) If you like urban moviesC.) And if you like The Kings of Comedy. Not great, but passable. Notthe best comedy ever, but certainly not the worst...cough...BringingDown the House...cough...cough.Letter Grade: C++ (better than a C+) #Score: 6.5/10 Stars: **1/2 out of4

'Airport 9/11' meets 'Airplane-2004!'

This film is one of the best comedies to have come out in the lastcouple of years. The material is not as inflammatory as the newspaperarticles/reviews initially made it out to be. "Soul Plane" is largelyfunny and is meant not to be taken too seriously, naturally.Kevin Hart plays "Nashawn," a young man trying to make it big at thehub; he is owner of a new airline that caters to rappers, UPN actors,video-hoochie-mammas, women that look like Angelina Jolie (or CarmenElektra), rising comedians... and just about any 'passenger' willing toput his/her career-life on the line for the sake of a few heartylaughs. The cast is fantastic, rarely missing their individual beat. Thecharacters include a security-check girl (played by Mo'Nique) with adon't-mess-with-me, in-your-face attitude; a gay-male flight attendantwho wears heavy lip gloss; a blind man whose olfactory senses (andsex-drive) run on permanent overdrive; and the Captain who likes to'fly high' on 'shrooms (played by Snoop Dogg, wearing a hat that'sway-too-big for his head). Even Tom Arnold (usually not my favorite actor in any movie) does agood job in this one, and is quite bearable to watch. He playsone-of-four Caucasians, and a springboard for all the hilarity thatgoes on while he's traveling 33,000-feet up in the air. To say any more would seriously spoil Flight #069. Be sure to 'checkyour baggage at the door' and just enjoy your trip.

Simply Off Tha Hook!

Soulplane is just down right stupid!, You'll probably never see anothermovie quite like this! Some would say that's a good thing, but I'vejust watched it twice this weekend (almost didn't rent it because Iread these reviews 1st) & literally laughed all the way through thismovie. I've seen some pimped out rides, but a pimped out plane? I thinkpeople are taking this movie way too seriously, or they don't know how, when or why to laugh at this specific type of cultural humor, this isvery obviously a FUBU movie, but there's no reason for others to bashthis movie. The movie just pokes fun at everything & everybody(regardless of race, sex &/or religion). People it's not "Friday" butit is a good slapstick comedy thats great for a few laughs.

Charles George 2013-04-23 02:46:45

Think Airplane and I'm Gonna Get You Sucka put together.

Hilarious. Much better than I expected. A few silly parts and severallaugh-out-loud moments. The type of movie that knows it's ridiculousyet still manages to be fun. Racial stereotypes and black/white cultureare embraced rather than dispelled. Tom Arnold definitely steals theshow. Not all the jokes work and some were a bit forced. Some awkwardmoments. Dwayne Adway is a bit weak in the leading role when he triesto join in on the wackiness rather than stick with being the straightman he is for most of the film. Stewardess Sofia Vergara of last year'sChasing Papi has got to be one of the hottest looking latina starletsin Hollywood. Oh yeah, she's a decent comedic actress as well. Overall,a very entertaining and fun movie.

FisherMysticCom 2013-04-22 18:30:19

One of the worst movies ever made.

The producer of this movie should be slapped in the face for puttingcrap like this out, and have the nerve to make money off of it. I feelsorry for the actors in this movie, because they deserve more than thiscrap. Snoop Dog hated this crap, and it's no wonder that he publiclycame out and apologized for this crap. It's so awful that you wish youcan eliminate it from your memory, and steal back the two hours youlost from watching this junk. Why do African Americans make junk likethis? I am part African myself, so i'm actually asking why do we agreeto make movies like this, because we have a lot of talent that we don'tshow, because of poor results like this movie. I hope in the futureless crappy movies like this will be made, and we will finally get therecognition we deserve in the eyes of Hollywood.

pk-78 2013-04-19 20:29:45

Best movie I have ever seen

OK, This movie isn't exactly an intellectual challenge. But if youenjoy a movie you can follow even with your brains on standby, you'lllove this flick. Did someone say it depends on racist jokes ? Well,it's a comedy - what did you expect ? Snoop Dogg is excellent, at hisbest, to be honest. It's an apocalyptic setting: Snoop Dogg as AirlineCaptain, cant tell who's higher - the plane in the flight levels orDogg on something.Did someone say it depends on sex? Well, it's a black movie - what didyou expect ? You wont be a wiser man having seen Soul Plane. But youwill have seen one of the funniest movies ever, trust me.For every pilot, this is like Flying 101.

blacksploitation and tom arnold = vomit mania

this is almost as bad as white chics, what were the filmmakers thinking when they made this? throw in some rappers, jive, and tom arnold and you have a REAL HIT..... NOT!!! I'm afraid the damage is not repairable because i simply can't get the 2 hours of my life back after watching this

Unfunny and racist..."Soul Plane" crashes and crashes hard.

"Soulless Pain". "So Plain". "Slow Pang". "So Racist".The words described above cannot even give the description of what Icalled so far the most ignorant film out there and to me this was oneof the WORST films of 2004. In other words, the WORST film of all time. The film is called "Soul Plane". But the comedy is so drab and sotedious, and utterly disturbingly insensitive,it may give the option toinvent a more fitting title besides to main title that is being issued."Soul Plane",which never quite takes off and is in content to taxicircles for 86 minutes, continues a horrendous year for comediesfeaturing predominantly African-American casts. Combine this dud with astring of failed hits which includes "My Baby's Daddy","Barbershop2","You Got Served","Love Don't Cost A Thing","Breakin All The Rules","Johnson Family Vacation",which gives the audience a grand total ofsome unfunny minutes and two of those minutes come from "Soul Plane"Let's face it,and some may agree with me on this...When will we see adecent black movie with a decent script and a star that doesn't make antotal ass of himself during the first 15 minutes of the picture, not tomention a decent storyline where something is being positive heregiving blacks a positive message when they leave the theatre? When willwe see this? The last decent black movie that I liked was years ago....Has African-American movies made a declined where the majority of thefilm has to be ghettoized all the time? "Soul Plane" is one of them andthis is why movies nowadays have been going downhill since mainly thecomedies that featured African-American actors making idiots ofthemselves. "Soul Plane" is sort of like the black version of the"Airport" and "Airplane" movies, but there is not a single funny momentin this neither. I was so p***ed that I almost had to cough up extrafor the relatives that I brought along to see this piece of racistgarbage at the nearby theatre, and to me it was stupid as hell andridicious. I'll never stoop that low for a sorry movie ever again. As for some of the scenes in this, well a ribald scene making fun ofairport security, featuring Mo'Nique(from the TV-series The Parkers)as asmack-trash talking security guard, who uses her metal detector forother things, doesn't bring the laughs, and neither does the rest of thecast which includes Kevin Hart,Brian Hooks,John Witherspoon,MethodMan,Missy Pyle,Tom Arnold, comedian D.L. Hughley, and not to mentionhalf, that's right, half of the comedians from the BET-TV series"Comicview" which includes former guest host of Comicview,Sammora. The story centers on Nashawn(Kevin Hart),who gets stuck in an airplanebathroom, successfully sues the airline for $100 million, and uses thedough to start his own airline---a black owned airline to give blacks amore comfortable travel choice, but as the movie insists needs airplaneswith dance clubs with all the trimmings including R&Bsingers,extra-wide toilet seats and chrome rims on the landing gear.Let's face it,what it would be like if there was a black owned airline? If may not be like this, but totally different without being so damnghetto all the time. As for the movie,it may just be a politicallycorrect,as Mel Brooks once said and proved time and time again, that isif the material is funny enough.....well,it wasn't funny for me.Caricatures of stereotyping of minorities aren't funny in and ofthemselves, but can be twisted and riffed into guiltily funny gags, thataren't hilarious, but also extremely racist. And without the inventivespin,we all get tons of things which includes a pot-smoking ex-conpilot played by the ghetto of the ghettoest:Snoop Dogg. There are otherexamples of stereotyping as well, including one scene where the Latinocharacter, who is female, has her legs up in the cockpit of the plane ina sexual position and speaks broken English throughout the rest of thepicture. And this is one example of the coalition of ignorancethroughout and it is just as prudish and stupidical as it gets. Theother character is where the overweight black male character is beingtauted as gay and everyone on the plane gives him a hard time. Thismovie contains a lot of base minority stereotyping and to me is wasjust that disgusting. I basically walked out of the theatre during thelast 15 minutes. I can't believe this was that awful! Please, don't spend your money at the theatre to see this piece ofracist garbage, and when it comes out on video, don't rent it neither. The worst picture of 2004.

Stop all the negativity

People who say this movie is not funny, lame, even kind of a drag. stoptalking and go watch "Citizen Kane" or something. i laugh my ass offrom the beginning till the end. OK... is was a kind of simple, easyhumor but you get that message from looking at the cover. it's a reallyeasy to watch kind of movie and the people who bashed this movie arecrazy. these people should really choose there movies more carefully.come on... pimp my ride only with a plane, a cast with mostly stand upcomedians, rappers & tom Arnold.my final conclusion: the movie is really worth about an 7, but just toset the record straight for all the people who ranked it way to low,i'm gonna give it a 10

ehormell 2013-04-10 02:14:27

don't go to this film, rent this film or ever look at this film

I would say this was one of the worst movies ever made but that wouldmake it interesting and it wasn't. Although the airline terminal andthe plane itself were very cool and visually funny, nothing funny everhappened and none of the characters said or did anything funny. SnoopDog, Tom Arnold, and a few other actors were actually quite good butthe lead actor was unwatchable. One thing the writers of this moviedon't understand is that offensive material works in comedy when it ismeant in fun and, most importantly, when it is actually funny. Sincethere is nothing funny about the offensive material in this film, it issimply offensive (and I don't offend easily). While it is unfair tocompare this mess with a good film, they were obviously trying toimitate Airplane; unfortunately they didn't understand anything aboutwhat made that film funny. None of the dramatic moments in Airplanewere meant to be taken seriously, but Soul Plane bogs down an alreadyunfunny film with drama nobody cares about. This film sucks.

Sir_Ipkiss 2013-04-09 11:42:26

Not great but highly entertaining

Many people will hate this movie. And i would have too, if i wasexpecting a clever story, a plot twisting end or great acting. Thismovie offers none of that. in fact, many would call it derogatorydrivel and pointless clichés that have been made a hundred timesbefore. But here's the thing - it was enjoyable and genuinely funny. It's not going to make too many books and be watched over and overagain - but at the end of a long day, it was surprisingly good. TomArnold was the clichéd klutz of a with his weird family. his son did aremarkable job of being the white kid turned black. snoop dogg washilarious as the scared of heights captain of the plane who got hisflying license from the joint. the gay flight attendant couldn't havebeen funnier. again, most people will hate this movie and lots willfind it humourlessly offensive. but it makes no claims that it isn'toffensive - in fact a lot of the time, it is shamelessly obvious howclose to stereotypes it is playing - but it is genuinely funny andviewers who watch it with a pinch of salt and without looking for holesin the acting, story etc, will enjoy their hour and a half. not a greatmovie - but definitely one to give a chance too.

Flyin' High on "Soul Plane."

I've been lookin' forward to seein' this flick for about 6 months, when Ifirst read about it. I could've been settin' myself up for bigdisappointment, but thankfully "Soul Plane" didn't disappoint. The onlyother movies that I can think of-off top-that made me laugh this hard so farthis year are "Starsky and Hutch" and "The Ladykillers(another movie-like"Soul Plane"-that was unjustly maligned.) "Soul Plane" got off to a roughstart and initially I was worried. After the set up, however, the laughscome frequently and furiously. Admittedly, there are a few places where thefunny stuff isn't funny enough. When the movie IS funny, however, it is SOfunny that you will laugh until your belly hurts. Snoop Dogg is a naturalcomedian, probably a better comedian than rapper(And I have been a fan ofhis music for 11 years). I hope he continues to pursue film because he getsbetter with each one. If I haven't given you enough reasons to go see "SoulPlane," then the fellas should know that you won't see hotter women-and insuch mASSive numbers-in any movie this year.

DO MANKIND A FAVOUR AND DESTROY A FEW COPIES OF 'SOUL PLANE'

It is difficult to describe just how awful 'Soul Plane' is. This racist abomination is worse than "Catwoman" and even "the Turkish Star Wars" (look it up). Never before have I seen such a poor excuse for a film. When I think of the millions of years of human development that preceded the making of this movie I want to weep. I feel dirty for having watched this trash. NEVER RENT, BUY OR EVEN STEAL THIS MOVIE. 'Soul Plane' will destroy your mind if you watch it. I bet Snoop's Girls Gone Wild videos have more artistic merit.THIS IS THE WORST THING EVER COMMITTED TO FILM - AVOID "SOUL PLANE" LIKE THE PLAGUE!

2013-04-06 21:33:58

One of the WORST films ever.

Soul Plane is about Nashawn Wade, who decides to sue an airline after experiencing a horrible mishap on one of their flights. He wins the case, and decides to establish an airplane company of his own, N.W.A. Airlines, and his dreams are fulfilled. His planes are accompanied with sexy stewardesses, a dance club, and even a bathroom attendant. I chuckled only once, and it was at the scene where Mr. Hunkee (played by Tom Arnold) interacts with the bathroom attendant (played by D.L. Hughley). This has to be one of the most cliched filled films I've ever seen, as it is filled with a bunch of stereotypes, lame jokes that have been rehashed countless times, rap star cameos, racist and sexist undertones, and bad acting. This is DEFINITELY one of the worst films I've ever seen. It currently sits on IMDB's bottom 100 list. If that isn't convincing enough, even two of the film's stars, D.L. Hughley and Snoop Dogg, apologized for it. In the end: Soul Plane crashes before it even takes off. AVOID!

ninjagaiden007 2013-04-06 00:29:38

Definitely not as bad as 3.3/10, but definitely ain't that great either.

I wanted to see this movie in theaters, but it didn't last long at all.Lasted for about 1 week, then it went. I just rented it last night frommy local video shop. This movie actually isn't as bad as some peopleare making it out to be. The acting is pretty good. The script writingis okay. The direction is pretty good. The humor is excellent at times. The thing I didn't agree with was the fact that they tried to get humorout of the characters having sex or doing sexual things. That didn'twork for me. I did like the whole idea, though. A plane with a discoparty and rappers like Lil Jon. Who wouldn't like to have that on aplane? Snoop Dogg was excellent. He was hilarious. He played as CaptainMack. And John Witherspoon as the blind man. There isn't a scene withJohn Witherspoon where it isn't funny. Being a big rap fan, I thoughtall the rap music really suited each scene. I recommend this to anyonewho travels quite a lot or who is a fan of rap or sex. 7/10

Matt Stratton 2013-03-29 09:57:18

Truly awful

I went to see Soul Plane expecting a bad, but fun, movie.Too bad the "fun" was left out.The filmmakers did a great job creating an amusing concept andenvironment, but then populated it with boring characters and stale, lifeless jokes. Too much "easy" humor (the number "69" is no longerfunny, people...unless you're a lazy comic writer) and stories thattook themselves way too seriously for a spoof film like this.Snoop Dogg was one of the only funny parts of this film, and he wasvery underused. I can't even recommend this movie as a free rental.Avoid at all costs.
