When an entire town in upstate New York is closed down by an unexpected snowfall, a snow day begins when a group of elementary school kids, led by Natalie Brandston, try to ensure that the schools stay closed by stopping a mechanical snowplow driver by trying to hijack his plow truck. Meanwhile, Natalies big brother Hal is using this day to try to win the affections of Claire Bonner, the most popular girl in his high school, while Hal and Natalies father Tom, a TV meteorologist, faces off against a rival meteorologist for weather coverage of the days events.

I have always enjoyed this movie. It reflects how children, young and old, get excited when the snow begans to fall. We imagine building snowmen, having snowball fights and stoking the fireplace for a warm winters night. We especially hope that the snow will be deep enough to cancel school and/or work for at least a day.
"Snow Day" is a lightweight piece of celluloid designed mainlyto separate a child's parent from his money as efficiently aspossible. To its credit, it does this admirably, to judge fromthe appreciative, prepubsecent audience my 5-year-old saw thiswith. But if you want a children's movie that is any more thanthe sum of its marketing campaign (advertised nonstop onco-producer Nikelodeon for the last 4 months), see...practically anything else. On the other hand, if you want ademographically ecumenical selection of fart jokes, predictableslapstick, and hackneyed sentimentality, this is the movie foryou.
Snow Day felt like the fake chrismas trees you see in the stores. Goingintoit, I didn't have huge expectations. After seeing the previews on TV, Iknewit was from Nickalodean and it felt very "Pete & Pete"ish. I was a fan ofthe Pete & Pete show for some strange reason. The biggest problem of the movie is the large cast of supportingcharacters, too many probably for a two-hour movie, let alone this one that clocks at90minutes including end titles.Chevy Chase has been in what can nicely be called more than his share ofbadmovies, but at least he knows how to deliver a laugh when he's given one.Iwish there was more of him in this film.Chris Elliott, as funny as he is, could not save the snow plow character.Idon't think anyone could, and with the exception of the plot involving thesnowplow man, the film may have been better. And may-be it's just me, but I'm really getting sick of the whole bestfriend is obviously in love with main character, but main character isblindand believes he loves the popular girl story. It's been told too manytimes...Pete's Movie Rating (out of 10): 4
I first saw this movie at my cottage in 2001 because my little cousinsbegged to rent it. I groaned because it looked like any other FamilyChannel movie with cheesy lines, etc. However, I was very wrong. Ienjoyed it thoroughly. It was recently advertised to be shown on TVagain, and I felt nostalgic about it. But, I couldn't help thinkingthat since I was about 13 when I first saw it, my tastes might havechanged, and I would hate it now. Again, I was definitely wrong. This movie can appeal to any age group, because it has plot linesinvolving a wide range of ages. All the plot lines offer somethingfunny and cute, even if sometimes unbelievable. But with a movie likethis, you have to be able to suspend your grasp on reality for a couplehours. If you're looking for a good, light movie to pass some time with, youwill not be disappointed by this one. I recommend it to anyone.
OK, it's not great art and there's a lot of wasted energy in this one butit's got a lot of your basic kid themes with some good performers. IlikedZena Gray who plays the little girl in the piece and Emmanuelle Chriqui isstunning as the high school hottie. Chevy Chase does his best in areserverole and you've got to love the rubbery Iggy Pop as the human target, principal Zellwegger. Too bad, there's not more of him in this flick.Oh,there's plenty I didn't care for--for one, Jean Smart's role as the busymother who suddenly discovers her fat little son. All thanks to the powerof snow! But, hey--you can't make a silk purse...
This review is from: Snow Day (DVD) I received this DVD in good condition. The inside tab was broken off but can still use it.
This movie is very funny for kids and adults. It has the right story'sto satisfy everyone. The characters are perfect. The good guys aregood. The Villains are Villainesque. The Cameo's are pretty cool. Andthe snow is a fallin! I saw this for the first time when I was in 9thgrade with my little sisters. Didn't want to go. Complained about it.Dragged my feet. Guess what? LOVED IT! Now I am 21 and just caught iton TV. I forgot how funny it was. I was laughing so hard I called mysisters so they could watch it too. Tomorrow I'm buying the DVD. Justgood fun. Though obviously wouldn't be good to anyone who can't forgetits a Nickelodian Movie for 10 minutes. NO TRUNCHABLES!!!!!! If youwere never a kid don't bother...you wont get it. Go find something elseto fill your empty soul.Enjoy!
If you are or have a child who watches Nickelodian, than they are sure to love Snow Day because it is made by Nickelodian! It's about a guy who desperately wants a date with a girl. When a snow day hits, his sister tells him that anything can happen on a snowday. So he tries to win her affection resulting in halarious consequences. Meanwhile, his sister and her friends are trying to stop the snow plow man from ruining another snowday! Youre kids will love it! Buy it today!
Back in 2000 I heard about this movie and wanted to see it, since backthen I wanted to see every Nickeleon Movie made. The plot looked funny with some humorous stuff.Only the results didn't come out well. The only thing wrong with this film is it has more romance scenesbetween 2 teens and less comedy.Has some parts that seem funny but aren't.Can't say it's too enjoyable or entertaining. It's one of them filmsthat are only good seeing once then put back on the self for a longlong time.So those who want to see this flick, just don't expect this to be thegreatest movie ever. I mean if I were given a choice between this orGood Burger, i'd choose Good Burger cause it had a better plot andfunnier stuff.my rate for this one 3/10.
This movie couldnt have got any worse. While watching the movie thesewere my exact thoughts from the opening scene and each scene continued toprove me wrong. This is definately a movie for no-one over the age of 12.Ifyou go see this movie - makes plans for something else to do that nightsince chances are you will end up leaving this early
Although I held a grudge against nickelodeon (see my review for "spacecases"), I decided to see this movie because of theplot: school getting cancelled on a snow day, and for-O.K. I'll admitit-Chevy Chase. Chevy Chase had a great role as the weather man wheringthose outfits for the weather channel due to lack of viewers, and I likedthe Snow Plow guy.
This is really a funny comedy full of cool things. When I watched it for the first time, I mainly enjoyed what I saw on the screen. People who usually are at school or work are playing in the snow on a regular business day when all businesses are closed. Snow makes here a lot of things enjoyable. I wish it had been available in my country earlier - now I had to hurry the availability by entering an international order. And the reason why no fifth star is that international orderers should be aware that the player has to be capable of playing back enforced region 1, that means it has to be manually switchable between regions if bought at a region other than region 1. That is a bad issue and I'm in fact collecting names to object the limitation and to support the 1948 United Nations Human Rights Declaration article XIX. Fortunately I've managed to get - after a long search - a player which works with this disk too, even if I live on region 2.
Snow day was your average Nickelodeon movie. It was dumb and some of thejokes really sucked. It had its moments but most of it was kind of dull.Thekids were pretty annoying and the completely unrealistic plot was evenmoreannoying. Some kids tie the snowplowing guy to a sign then drive off withhis snowplower without getting in trouble? If you look closely it lookslikethey got the cast of Harriet The spy and made it into another movie. ChevyChase wasnt as funny as he should have been. I think this movie deserves 4out of 10 stars. Parents beware you will probubly hate thismovie.
I don't remember much about the movie except for the youngest kid having a television set inside the snow fort and going against the snow plow man and the teenage boy who liked his childhood friend. Forgettable film.
When watching this film, I realized that some critics may see it aschildish. I do not see it this way. I found the film especiallyinterestingbecause I never grew up in an area that had snow, and it made me thinkthatthis may kinda be what it is like. I realize that some of the situationsareimprobable, but it did show people having fun in several different ways.Several times, the film made me wish I were there. I can't speak for theactors, but it looks like it was a fun movie to make.I found several of the characters extremely likable, especially Hal andalsoClaire, but I don't want to risk spoiling this wonderful film, so I can'tsay why. JUST GO SEE IT!!!! YOU WON'T BE SORRY!!!!
I am ashamed to admit I went to see this in the theater when it firstcame out. My uncle, cousin and I were the only ones in there. The guyin charge of the projector actually turned it off. It was soembarrassing. Calling this a "kid's movie" doesn't excuse it for beinga bad movie. The acting is just, unbearable. I would burn all thecopies and the negatives. This should have gone straight to video, orperhaps only shown on the Disney channel. Unless you have kids that canappreciate effortless, unfunny movies, or you yourself are a masochistwho enjoys torture, then don't watch this. If you are a Chris Elliotfan, rent Something About Mary instead. Unless, of course, if you havekids.
Snow day is an OK movie. But adults may find it a bit boring. It is by the way a nickelodeon movie, so it aims at younger viewers. Despite it is only 89 mins, 84 mins for the features and 5 minutes for the credit, the movie feels a bit long. Not enough Chevy Chase, so the funny moments are limited as well. The younger actors' give excellent performances. The DVD's picture quality is OK and the 5.1 Dolby Digital has very limited activities. It worths to be watched once not to keep. Just rent this one.
Unfunny "comedy" about what kids do during a snow day (hence the title). This primarily consists of fulling around, trying to kiss girls, and pickingon the evil snow plower (Chris Elliot) who is the evil adult who is tryingto ruin their fun (by doing what he is employed to do?!). Bad, bad, bad.Maybe rules were meant to be frozen, but not films - because this thing isicy as heck. Why is Chevy Chase in this? Where's that fifth "Vacation" filmhe keeps talking about?1/5 stars -John Ulmer

Having seen Schuyler Fisk as little tomboy Kristy in "The Baby-sitters'Club" five years ago, I knew Schuyler was talented. (Especially by suchpooracting by the rest of the BSC cast in comparison) Even though I had mydoubts about "Snow Day", I waited until it came out on DVD so I could rentit. The story involving the little kids was kind of cheesy (that is beingkind) but since I'm a teenager, I won't come down too hard. The Hal / Lanestory was pretty cute though. Even though it's been done, it wasrefreshingto see the two friends that were falling for each other in the moviereallyweren't super models. "Snow Day" could have easily pulled a "She's AllThat"trick. (The "outcasts" could be on the cover of "Seventeen" in aheartbeat)But you won't find that here. Schuyler Fisk and Mark Webber both shinewithout looking gorgeous or being a heartthrob. They just looked likeregular kids. I wish we would find that in more films.Since then, I've looked out for Mark Webber too. We'll see Schuyler andMarkboth in the future. All in all, "Snow Day" wasn't total fluff. It's not asbad as the trailers make it seem. And if you don't like the story, atleastyou can end the movie listening to Schuyler's song "It's Not Her" on theclosing credits. (I now officially have that song stuck in my head) Theverdict: I give this a 6 out of 10.
