When a group of college band mates reunite 15 years after graduation to sing at a friends wedding, they take a break from their less-than-perfect lives to spend a long weekend at a cozy Hamptons beach house with their spouses, children, friends and one Swedish nanny in tow. Reuniting with lifelong friends provides them with some much-needed perspective on how their lives have progressed - and in some cases, regressed - since their college heyday.

This documentary is great!! Don't read all the b.s. BUSH loving conservatives who went to see this movie just to write a review and bash it.
I didn't know anything about this band of country western women from texas... but when I heard that their story was filmed... and the issues of freedom of speech is at the core of their response, I went to see the film and I was AMAZED at how powerful individual people can be when faced with stupidity, misplaced anger, even violent emotions from bigots, news media and even thier own radio base. the Dixie Chicks are true heroes in these days... and I recommedn this movie as a ray of hope in these dark manipulative times of Fascist Government here in the US.
Bravo Dixie Chicks for your courage, fortitude and unrelenting patriotism, that is your willingness to stand up for yours and everybody elses constitutional right to free speech. Furthermore your willingness not to let those who would TERRORIZE you with death threats and attempting to destroy your hard earned musical success, stop you upholding your constitutional right and the foundational principle of freedom this coutry is founded upon.God forbid the day come when freedom of speech is completely squashed by big government, that will mark the end of America as we know it. The question this film poses: We are asked to give up our hard earned tax dollars and the lives of 2,800 of our young and innocent men and women, with 100,000's more Americans forever maimed, scarred, families broken in the name of freedom abroad, meanwhile our constituionally gaurenteed freedoms have, benn and continue to be rapidly and systematicly stripped away from us, is simply wrong. We should all be in an uproar, some are in fear to speak out, but this documentary of your courage to be a real patriot and stand up for freedom in America, is an inspiration to all!The movie raises the all important question, who is really creating terror for Americans and who is benefitting the most from it? This movie reminded me of another movie along this topic of freedom "Loose Change". You can see it free at ****.com
Wrestling with what happens, not after graduation, but AFTER aftergraduation may at first seem kind of unambitious, but director / writerBruce Leddy keeps you laughing through the whole thing even as heskates through mortality, repressed anger and regret, longstandingfeuds among friends, and of course a brush with authority -- you know, the typical components of comedy. A delightful movie with many scenesthat you'll remember vividly long after you've seen the picture. Leddyskillfully zooms through all kinds of thirty-something angst withoutgetting turgid or tedious, keeping a patter of jokes -- sometimes deep, sometimes on the (ahem) immature side -- bubbling along so that theride is fun. Kind of like Sideways, kind of like Big Chill, but withmore jokes and EXCELLENT singing.
Let Freedom of Speech Reign! The outcry created in this country over such a simple comment was completely ridiculous. Death threats for saying that they were ashamed the President was from TX? I'm ashamed he's our President PERIOD. Either way-- agree or disagree with the comment that they made-- but to diss this film is to diss our freedom of speech.
There are 515 ratings, but only 114 reviews, so it must be possible.I enjoyed the movie greatly, but I have nothing to add to other positive reviews that are alrady posted. If you want to see professional reviews, they are linked at other web sites.
I Loved It.Okay,it was the best way to get through to people. The Dixie Chicks went through a lot that we did not get to see or hear when the news talked about it.The doc showed sisterhood, friendship, love, passion, and what turned out to be right all along. The Dixie Chicks had more balls then the entire country music industry. Dixie Chicks, were clearly right.
This film was amazing, It was so great because it shows how ignorant americans (republicans) were when the comment was made and how people made such a big deal over nothing. It can't be compared to any film. It discusses the before and after. And a background on their lives. And how they stood up and continue to stand up for what they believe in. It will make you laugh and it will make you cry. The fan base that they have now has changed dramatically. I went to their concert on November 24th and It was great. Nat should be president.
This film was a much needed insight into the lives of these three remarkably brave women and their crew. We see not only the political fallout of a heat of the moment remark, but the emotional one as well. As a huge Chicks fan and an even bigger Bush critic, I was already sold, but where this documentary really succeeded was in showing the viewer the human side of the story. Whichever side you are on, this film reveals that these women are not just Political Sh*tStirrers or Angels of the Left, but just regular people with beautiful families, fears, and joys. In addition to all that, this fan was particularly excited to be given a glimpse into the production of Taking the Long Way, which I think is their most daring and artful work to date.
Respect the opinion of others. It's tragic and mind-blowing that people out there, including some on this string, believe the chicks should have their citizenship revoked. This country was established with the intent of allowing its people to speak out against the government. You don't have to agree with it, but as Americans you should respect the opinion of others. All opinions sould be respected and heard. Blindly following the will of your government (i.e., your president) is anti-american behavior. Celebrate your freedom!
I wasn't even a fan of Dixie Chicks music when I went to go see this movie. Mostly, I was intrigued by the controversy surrounding Natalie Maine's comments about President Bush. However, after seeing the movie, I can definitely say I am a fan of their music and what they stand for. While they obviously didn't intend to become caught in the crosshairs of a nation divided over the war in Iraq, I admire them for having the guts to say what they feel and stick by their comments. After all, this is America and if you can't speak freely, we might as well throw away the Constitution or move to a Communist country. I encourage everyone to see this movie, especially those of you that have always doubted the President's explanation for going to war in the first place.
Shut Up and Sing, or ("Sing Now or Forever Hold Your Peace"), isdefinitely a must see. I'm not sure which title is being used, but Isaw the showing of it at the Garden State Film Festival about two weeksago. I laughed the entire time. I highly recommend this film. TheDirector did a great job on casting. Molly Shannon was, of course, hilarious, and the actor playing Spooner was gorgeous as well. That'sjust my opinion, but the all around plot was very creative. It's abouta group of college guys, who used to sing A Capella together, and theirlasting friendship. One of them is getting married, and they face thehardships of growing old and what marriage life is like. It'sdefinitely a new type of film, and for that reason I recommend it!! Ipersonally loved it.
Can I first say that this guy named Keith_Chandler needs to go back to school. I think you want to say "hypocrites" but you spelled it "hippocrates" which really means a Greek physician.I thought this documentary is a success to show how... let's not use the term "dumb"... oh what the hey... to show how dumb a large of number of Americans can be; of how naive they were when they bought into what Bush and his administration said about Iraq; of how America is always trying to find a scapegoat for whatever problems they have; of how small-minded and unforgiving some Americans be if you simply have a different opinion than them; of how your words can be twisted so many ways and it lost all its original meaning; and of course, of how lost and stupid the current president really is.And for those who thinks this is the end of the Dixie Chicks, I seriously doubt it. Look what happened 3 years ago, many people thought THAT was the end of their careers, and today, they're more popular than ever. I believe this is only the beginning of a long journey for the Dixie Chicks, and for those who are fighting for freedom of speech without having to worry that someone (from your OWN country) would threaten to kill you.I applaud those who were part of this film, especially the Dixie Chicks themselves. It is heartfelt, it is funny, and it is HONEST. These ladies are so brave, not only to say what they said, but also to put this film out there to show the rest of the world what type of country the U.S. really is. *applaud*
this is another example of people reviewing films based on their political leanings, not the film itself. never owned a cd or heard the dixie chicks before seeing the film - they are actually pretty good! another example of how our nation is so polarized and heading for deep trouble unless it changes quickly.
Actually a great movie, pretty fun and entertaining. They manage tosqueeze some good mileage out of a tried and tested formula, with somevery nice performances. Rosemarie DeWitt is especially fun to watch, and Molly Shannon's shtick mostly refreshing, while Liz Stauber managesto fill a small role with unexpectedly biting, dry wit. The men are allfine too, and their camaraderie feels fresh and real. The dialogues areloving crafted and witty, but manage to avoid being annoyingly clever. At the end I was perhaps missing a hint of a wider perspective, ordeeper insight, into some of the themes previously touched upon. Thestory stayed firmly in romantic comedy territory, though, but it didn'tdiminish the pleasure of watching this film.
A great film exploring the controversy that should have never occured!! Riviting!!! Allows an inside look at the bands as well as the fans reaction to the remarks made.
Forget what their critics say, the Dixie Chicks are the only arbiters of free speech in our time. They spoke out against the war at a time when President Bush still had sky high approval ratings and they refused to back down despite how unpopular their statements were. This isn't just a film about their struggles, but about the consequences of dissent in a time when it is badly needed. Even if you're not a fan of their music, you must go see this movie to support the message--free speech is still at risk in this country.
This movie was amazing! If you believe in free speech this is your movie too! I love the Dixie Chicks but even if you are not a fan it is a great story! This is a must see!
propaganda is used to stifle American voices. Nashville has recently gone to the hard right, and this movie shows that even though we have freedom of speech, we still must fight for it.
This movie is definitely a must see! A movie like this is one that Ican watch over and over again. Humorous but definitely charming withthe beautiful Hamptons as the setting, not only is the movie absolutelyentertaining, but the songs are unforgettable. It makes you want to goout and buy the soundtrack immediately, if not sooner. This movie makesyou appreciate your closest friends as the ones who completelyunderstand what you are going through. And not only do they understand, but they help you out no matter what. With the combination of a wittycast, fabulous director, and absolutely incredible songs sung by one ofthe greatest a capella groups, this is one hit that everyone has tosee!
