When a Chinese rebel murders Chons estranged father and escapes to England, Chon and Roy make their way to London with revenge on their minds. Chons sister, Lin, has the same idea, and uncovers a worldwide conspiracy to murder the royal family but almost no one will believe her.
Shanghai Knights is simply one of Jackie Chan's best overall films, andcertainly tops of his American produced films. He was given a lot of time to craft excellent fight sequences that hehimself considers some of his best, most-creative work...and it is.Additionally, he and Owen Wilson work very well together, and even thoughJChimself has stated he prefers working with Wilson over Chris Tucker youneedn't be explicitly told so. It is very obvious in almost every scenethat the two want to have fun and improvise beyond the scope of the filmifthey could. With Jackie Chan engaging in surprisingly lengthy action scenes (as hehopedto do), Wilson providing some really funny lines, and Fann Wong providingcharm and some action of her own as sister to JC's character, you have anexcellent and eminently re-viewable light-hearted goodtime.
WARNING SPOILERS"Shanghai Noon" was a good movie with plenty of laughs and action. But thisone has more of bolth. This time around the boys go to England to getrevenge on the killer of Chon Wang's father. They also meet Chon's sisterwho helps them out and Roy falls in love with her. The movie was hilarious!Everyone in the theater got really into this movie some people were evenclaping after Jackie Chan did an incriedable stunt. Jackie and Owen hadgreat chemistry(in my opinion their one of the greatest pairs in moviehistory). I loved the operation sweep her off her feet scene and thethrowback to "Singing in the Rain". In conclusion a great movie that gets a10 on the fun-o-meter.:)
This was my first Jackie Chan movie. Having seen it, I like him, but Iwishhis comedy were as good as his stunts. The fighting is great, and thesetslook expensive and lavish. But the writing is mundane and not that funny.Fann Wong, who played his sister, was wonderful, but I thought Owen Wilsonwas just darned annoying; I would have enjoyed it more withouthim.I dunno, this movie seems to be a hit at the Cineplex, but gee Jackie, aimhigher next time.
Would that be the name of the next one? MMMMMMMMno. The movie overall?Good.Jackie Chan and Owen Wilson have really great chemistry and can makethingsvery funny. Of course no one can beat Rush Hour. It's still a bit of ascareto see Owen Wilson, after darkness fell on him in I Spy, yikes! But Ithinkthis movie healed that scar. Jackie Chan is really a master, not just athiskicks and such, but he is funny as hell. I think there should have beenmoreaction for Jackie, although. But the villian(s) sucked arse, so (Whaddyagonna do)? The incluson of a sister? Ok. The inclusion of a young CharlieChaplin? Not ok. it's not as bad until one of the last shots, which waspretty stupid. Another thing that got me chrinching was all thosehistorictie in's. For me it just raises the Corny Level. But Jackie and Owenreallycan get people to bust a gut. It's great to see Jackie and Owen be freedfrom the shipreck of The Tuxedo and I Spy, two of the worst movies of2002.Let's see Jackie kick some more arse eh?
I saw a sneak preview last Saturday of "Shanghai Knights" and thoroughlyenjoyed myself. I was entertained from beginning to end, and I haven'tlaughed so hard at a movie in a very long time. Sadly, there's always aself-proclaimed "expert" who can pick apart just about any movie, but, in myopinion, the main purpose of going to the movies is to be entertained and toescape. The time just flew by and I found myself wanting more of "ShanghaiKnights." It obviously met its objective since it clearly was not trying tobe "Gone With the Wind."Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan have a remarkable chemistry together and it's aprivilege to watch them work. They are clearly having as much fun as theaudience, which is why it works so well. In short, fasten your seat beltsand get ready for lots of laughs and an enjoyable time at themovies.
I loved this movie. It's action packed, funny and has a great plotline and story to it. I've never seen the first, but this one is great. Chan's acting is still pretty similar to Rush Hour and his past performances, but I still like him. With Owen Wilson on his side and chans sister to help, these guys get in some crazy stuff and make the movie a blast. So trust me, if you've never watched Jackie Chan or you think he's nothing much, you'll love this movie. THIS MOVIE IS A DEFINENT BUYER!!!!
The heroic storey Chon Wang continues in Shanghai Knights the hilarious sequel to the successful Shanghai Noon. In this storey it has been a couple of years since Jackie Chain and Owen Wilson last rip roaring adventure. As the story starts of Jackie father who has protected the emperor's seal for over ten generations is brutal murder in Shanghai. Getting word from his sister Lin Jackie goes to New York to reunite with his old sidekick Roy "O' Bannon, played by Owen Wilson. Together with the aid of his sister line they must track down there killer. Which pulls them into a despicable plane set by the evil son of the former emperor and a selfish English prince to take the position of the royal throne on as the emperor of china and the other as the king of London will there dastardly plan to wipe out the rest of the royal family go through find out in the action packed conclusion. A word of warming due to several scenes in this movie with heavy Konfu action sequences and several brief scenes with heavy sexual content I do not recommend this two any one under thirteen. If you are 13 to16 years of age or older this movie should be fine for you.
Jackie Chan has put it all together and made a film that is Touching,Funnyand with Unique Action Scenes, to play Homage to Movie History!!! He hasbecome the Movies!!! I have never seen so many Happy People,in a MovieTheater, have so much Pure Fun and Laughter!!!Jackie Chan should be Very Proud of This!!!
Jackie Chan's action sequences are absolutely amazing. The incrediblyhandsome and witty Owen Wilson is hilarious as Roy. Chan & Wilson havegreat onscreen chemistry. This sequel is definitely A+ material. It's amust-see for everyone. The outakes at the end were a great bonus as well. It's just nice to go see a movie like this and to be entertained.Overall=excellent movie!
Yes, the movie's brain-in-neutral fun. But in addition to some other pointsraised, are we supposed to believe that Charlie Chaplin was an adolescent 2years before he was even born? Would the plot have suffered if they'd leftout the obvious visual gag at the end with the soot smeared on the lad's toplip? There's playing fast-and-loose but this was just taking a liberty.
Chan and Wilson are back for more laughs in this comedey hit sequel to Shanghai Noon. This movie rocks i love this film. I recomend this movie :)
Shanghai Knights is a very funny addition to the adventures of Chon and Roy. I would almost say that this is better than the orginal, Shanghai Noon. If you haven't seen Shanghai Noon, see it BEFORE you see Shanghai Knights. It will make the movie even funnier. This is something that the entire family can enjoy.
I went to see this with sister not expecting much and it was better than ithought it would be I have not see the first one but this one was kinda offunny but it was not to great possible spoilers owen wilson was good andjackie chan was well jackie chan so I'll give this movie 5\10 RATED PG-13FOR COMIC VIOLENCE AND SEXUAL CONTENT
Shanghai Knights is the first 2003 movie I've seen and it's quiteentertaining. Owen Wilson is one of the best and most entertainingcontemporary actors and watching a movie with Jackie Chan is an honor. Iwill give Shanghai Knights a perfect 10.
The implied promise of a sequel is that it will give you what you got fromthe first movie, but that promise is often broken. Shanghai Knights is anexception, giving the audience that same mix of goofy dialogue and slapstickmartial arts that made the first movie so much fun. This time the duo headsto England, allowing them to make a bunch of incredibly silly jokes aboutEngland and Sherlock Holmes and Charlie Chaplin. The movie is essentiallyone long wink, and if you like that sort of humor your likely to find muchof it amusing. At times I thought they pushed the anachronistic dialogue alittle too far, as when Owen asks the gorgeous Fann Wong if she works out,but overall it works pretty well. Chan supplies a number of veryentertaining fight sequences along with his usual goofy charm and the endresult feels like a more actiony version of a Hope/Crosby road movie.
I love Shanghai Noon. So when I saw Shanghai Knights on DVD I just had to buy it. I should have rented.Sure there are creative fight scenes and Owen delivers some great lines, but the whole story feels forced and comedic timing feels rushed. The previews look like a comic masterpiece, critics praise it, but my family all voted thumbs down.Shanghai Knights now collects dust on our DVD shelf while Shanghai Noon garners the screen time. When it comes to the Shanghai series, be a cowboy, not a knight.
As good as you may believe Jackie Chan to be, it is his chemistry with OwenWilson that makes Shanghai Knights a success. The action sequences are atthe head of its class for the genre, but it is the humor and frequent witthat connects all of the dots. Without spoiling all of the details,Shanghai uses its fictitious storyline to humorously incorporate historicalfigures into its plot, such as Jack the Ripper, Charlie Chaplin, and ArthurConan Doyle. Never stretching its PG-13 rating, the movie remains funnyeven with its light ethnic jabs and sexual material.Chan and Wilson also starred together in the original installment to thishopeful growing franchise. Also, they have both proved their recuperationafter horrid efforts in The Tuxedo and I-Spy, respectively, in the secondhalf of last year. Now that Wilson has a few of these buddy comedies underhis belt, it might be best for him to return to his greatest talent:writing. Nominated for Best Original Screenplay at last year's AcademyAwards was The Royal Tenenbaums, which he co-scripted with director WesAndersen, but it was their screenplay for Rushmore, along with flawlessperformances by Jason Schwartzman and Bill Murray, that is by far the betterof the two.But for Shanghai Knights, which is consistently funny, the humor extendsinto a series of hilarious outtakes proving Chan's lack of knowledge in theEnglish language. The best of which is when he means to say `baby sister'and results in saying `babysitter.' Wilson is quick to poke fun at him, showing that their great chemistry so apparent on-screen is also a backstagething too. So, if you are sick of the over-rated Academy Award nominatedfilms, then two hours with these guys will do you no harm, and you willlaugh just as hard as you would at any other 2003 comedy (yes, including OldSchool and Bringing Down the House).*** out of ****
Is there anything at all to like here, one may ask oneselfthe answer, in a word, is NO!ok, the action scenes are so quick cutted that you cannot follow the action, and cannot believe it either. I mean it would be great to watch Jackie Chan do his thing like in the old days, but here each action scene is so cut and taped together that you hear the director yelling cut and staging the stunt. This is like getting too obviously cheated at a magic show where you can see the wires and mirrors. We can see he posed, cut, posed again, and loses his place. It cuts up the rythm of the action and just makes it confusing, not fascinating, not dance, but a mess, no flow. And what is it with the MUSIC anyway. Just a few lines from some old Roger Miller tune or other soft pop hit of the early Sixties totally unconnected to the action, interjected, unheard, and then, gone . . .And the comedy . . .call this comedy . . .Owen Wilson has always been just a dud, a jerk, and here he gets to play one, BORINGLY, NOT funny at all, in front of a Palace guard who finally belts him one where it counts, and THAT IS COMEDY . . .I do not think so . . .Who is this movie supposed to be for anyway . . .Why would ANYONE in their right mind want to waste five minutes with this mess or cruelly force a child, the elderly or anyone else to watch this mess . . .I was forced to, really, and shall ever regret it.WAY too long and nothing happens at all . . .Jackie, next time, get a script, and a less hyper film editor, cut back on the caffeine, editor, and DUMP WILSON for an actual human being with some sense of acting and comedy.dumb, dumb moviewaste of a great set.

That's when the hookers' father, the mayorofNew York, entered. Chon took care of the cops then he and Roy hitchaferry to England. Roy would stick to Chon like glue! They soonarrivein London. Chon thenhelpsRoy. The assassination attempt was stopped and Chon, Roy and Doylewereknighted. As Chon, Roy and Lin rode away in a carriage, Roy told Chonofa new venture happening in California: the moving picturesindustry. I think Shanghai Knights was just as good as ShanghaiNoon!Jackie Chan is back as Chon Wang, Owen Wilson is back as RoyO'Bannon!Fann Wong was a good Chow Lin and was very beautiful I mightadd!Adian Gillen was a perfectly vicious Rathbone. I wonder if there willbea part III. Perhaps in the early 1900s? Who knows? Well as forJackieChan, I hear he'll be in Rush Hour 3 sometime next year. He andOwenWilson were so good together, as were Jackie Chan and Chris Tuckerinthe Rush Hour movies. Anyway, if you like action/comedy flicks,ShanghaiKnights don't get anymore action-packed and funny than that! Itbeatsthe stuff at the box office, like Just Married which starsAshtonKutcher and Brittney Murphy who both play idiots on TV. Or whataboutDare Devil? Actually, that's probably good but for my money, nothingbeats Shanghai Knights! See it today, it's a royal kick in thearse!-
Shangai Knights was a terrific movie experience from the action-packedscenes, to the hilarious one liners, and from the inside jokes to greatactors (Owen Wilson, Jackie Chan, etc). I have rarely gone to a show whereeveryone was laughing so hard their sides hurt! I absolutely loved thismovie and many others would too!
