Ian is a high school senior in suburban Chicago, plagued by being a virgin. Online hes inflated his resume, met Ms. Tasty, and agreed to drive to Knoxville where she promises sex. He steals his homophobic, macho brothers GTO, and, with his two best friends, Lance and Felicia, heads south. Every young woman who meets Lance, including Felicia, is attracted to him, even though hes an uncaring hound. Ian, on the other hand, is a decent guy who wouldnt mind if his friendship with Felicia became a romance. By the time they get to Knoxville, they have encountered a jealous boyfriend, a menacing hitchhiker, jail birds, carjackers, an Amish community, and Ians better judgment.

This movie doesn't contain 'offensive language'. The offensive language contains the movie.
...rather prim even when it's trying to be gross...
There are several people who say that critics don't know anything... Ifind it funny in Hollywood how the best movies get rated terribly, andhave a 28% rating on rottentomatoes 'tomatometer'...I saw the preview for Sex Drive on myspace. The preview started off asa typical drive-across-the-country crazy-things-happen teen sex partymovie. About halfway into the trailer I found myself laughing... andthinking "wow... something about this movie feels different. I thinkit's going to be really good. I don't want to wait til October, I wantto watch it right now".THREE WEEKS later three of my friends and I decided to see a lastminute movie- I looked up Sex Drive only to find that it was onlyplaying in one theater in our entire city (Denver) with only oneshowtime! 10:30 was the only showtime, if this was any indication ofhow the movie was I figured that it was going to be terrible- but Iremembered how much I enjoyed the preview and coerced my friends to gosee it. When we arrived the theater had only two other people in it,both middle-aged males sitting separately by themselves. Again- not agood sign...The movie started out, and was instantly funny. We laughed, so did theothers. I thought, "ok, any movie can make people laugh... it's notthat hard a thing to do... let's see where this goes". The moviecontinued on, and I found myself loving the plot. Loving the script.Loving the (no-name) actors. Loving the directing. Loving the editing.Loving everything about it. But that's just me... everyone hasdifferent opinions. My three friends (who- might I mind you, have verydifferent senses of humor) all felt the exact same way. We were cryingat certain parts because we were laughing so hard. The other (two)people in the theater were laughing hysterically as well. Just when Ithought it couldn't get any better- the movie turns to a love story, and everything throughout the whole movie comes together. It finally ended, and I, and my three friends, sat there, in awe, aboutwhat we just saw. We left the theater and could not have been anyhappier about our movie choice.I returned home to instantly look up reviews online about what othersthought of this movie- and it blew my mind. The most terrible, awfulthings were said, and the movie's gross domestic total? $8,402,485. ABOMB.I don't understand what it is people are looking for in a comedy. Iwill agree with others and say- yes, this has been done before. Yes,this movie is exactly what I thought it would be and what I wrote above(a typical drive-across-the-country crazy-things-happen teen sex partymovie). Yes, this movie is predictable and familiar- but back to thequestion- what is it people are looking for in a comedy? This movie hadevery element of the $100,000,000+/movie American Pie series. Sex Driveshould of made AT LEAST half that much.I saw College recently- NOW THIS is a movie that deserved it's abysmalearnings of 4.5 million dollars. College's jokes were cheap, andseemingly desperate, as if almost begging for a laugh. And once again-yes, College made me (slightly) laugh- as I said before any comedy can-but what it did not do was leave me with a feeling of sheer joy andhappiness that I took the time out of my night (and life) to watch it.Sex Drive left me with this feeling.I believed Sex Drive to be perfect. In every aspect. I will addressthat, again, everyone's taste is different; everyone's brains interpretthings differently and because of this not everyone will find Sex Driveto be perfect, in fact some may not find it funny it all- but I believeTHE MAJORITY of people (9 out of 10) will realize, upon DVD release andword-of-mouth, that Sex Drive was the sleeper hit of 2008.See this movie. It deserves much more money than it made and is well, well worth your time.
It's not even that Sex Drive is a terrible film--it's just a completely disposable one.
I actually said that out-loud at the advanced screening I attended forthis movie. This is about as safe a comedy as you can find. Even thelone child in the audience of 50 was bored by this disappointment. I'mnot quite sure what the other reviewers of this movie saw, but they areobviously brain washed. The only redeemable quality of this movie wasits all played out. Everything was rushed, the dialog was laughablybad, and there were no funny jokes. Sexdrive is not a great movie towatch, its one of my worst movies i have ever seen. If you value yourlife, you would not watch this pile of trash and stay away from it. Itburned my eyes.
It is rude, crude, lewd and %u2013 worst of all for a comedy %u2013 not very funny.
not much to say except the fact that this movie was awesome, the eventsthe way the actors played were awesome Ian,Felicia,Lance,Rex were greatand so the others...good job in making this movie guys!!! never seensuch great comedy/romance in a while!!!! One of the reason it was greatwas the story line and it really managed to make people laugh incinemas, especially Rex's behaviour and in the end his real problem thatmade him so rude to his brother the whole movie!! Lance's role was cooland i enjoyed watching him in the end as an Amish and married with thatAmish chick!!! Ian was cool too and Felicia was really HOT and the wayshe played was fantastic except being scared to tell Ian that she loveshim so much!! Amanda Crew the best great movie again!!CONGRATS!!!!
Sex Drive is a Sure Thing for the Superbad generation. But if it lacks much of The Sure Thing's warmth and romance, Sex Drive makes up for that in goofy, no holds-barred raunch.
At the very beginning of the unrated version they tell you to watch thetheatrical version first because the unrated version is for the fans. Alot of these reviews I see talking about the naked porn stars walkingacross the screen and the extra gay jokes throughout the film. Thedirectors warned you and you decided to watch it anyways.Overall the movie was excellent, it was funny and it really was theperfect movie for 11-1am where I just wanted to turn off my brain andlaugh. I had seen it playing before on the movie channels and I hadseen it listed on-demand for the movie channels I rent but the premisehad always turned me off. It says, "A high school senior drivescross-country with his best friends to hook up with a babe he metonline." Now, a few years back I watched a forgettable movie whose nameI cannot recall where a dude had to save his girlfriend from like theToronto film festival or some bullshit and the movie was god awful butI remember the premise being completely bland and uninspiring like whatis listed for this movie. This movie however was amazing. There were no shortage of laughs and Ithink the only reason that this movie wasn't in the theaters wasbecause of it's witty title. If it had been in the theaters andmarketed I believe this film could have done at least better thanAmerican Pie (which is a terrible movie). After viewing this movie on-demand I feel obligated to go buy thebluray since I actually found it enjoyable enough to do so.
There were a lot of great comedy movies in 2008 and Sex Drive was oneof them. The movie started it funny and it ended funny. Last year was agood year for comedy films and I hope this year is even better.Ian (Josh Zuckerman) is a teenage boy who is a virgin and spends mostof his time on the girl on the internet with some girl name Ms.Tasty.One day, the girl offers him sex, but Ian has to drive all the way toKnoxville to meet the girl. Desperate meeting the girl, Ian takes hisbrother Rex's (James Marsden) car without permission and is off toKnoxville with two of his close friends Lance (Clark Duke) and Felicia(Amanda Crew). The story is very simple and easy to follow, but there is a good twistat the end that might surprised you a bit. The jokes are hilarious anddifferent from other comedy films. I think you will not be disappointedat all.The performances were solid and the cameos by Seth Green wereincredibly funny. Josh Zuckerman really did a good job as Ian. I wassurprised on how hilarious James Marsden is in the movie. He is so meanto his brother in the film, but in a funny way. I thought he pull itoff perfectly. The rest of the cast did well also, including AmandaCrew and Clark Duke.Sex Drive was one of the funniest films of 2008 and now one of myfavorites. It is non-laughed until the end. I recommend this movie toanyone who loves comedy.
...one of the least impressive comedies to come around in quite some time.
The film is generally well-staged and adequately acted (Seth Green stands out as a sarcastic buggy-driver).
To use a 1980s sex-comedy metaphor, Sex Drive is to Superbad what Hot Dog: The Movie was to Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Sex Drive feels like a date with a prostitute: if you pay your money, you get what you expect, but there's nothing fun or new about the experience, and ultimately you feel more a lot more sleazy than satisfied.
This review is from: Sex Drive [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Actually, surprised me a bit by how much I loved the movie. Don't let the title deceive you, this isn't your typical teenage sex romp - it's actually more of a feel good coming of age comedy with a bit of romance elements (but not quite enough to scare off the gentlemen). Lots of really great performances from the actors in the movie, everybody plays their role well, even if it's a role you'd never expect the actor to play (Clark Duke as a Ladies Man? LOVE IT!). Word of Advice though - don't take the unrated version seriously - it was basically the creators getting together and making some unrated version just for the fun of it, it was entertaining at times and grating at others... stick with the "rated" version, I have 0 complaints about that one.
Occasionally sharp but never quite as smartly formed as it could be, this Sex Drive is only partly worth the trip.
the plot is simple , not really worth mentioning , but it's a comedyand a good one . It is meant to make people laugh , and that's what itdid. I had a good time with this movie . The actors do their work asthey should , the imaging is also fine , as earlier said, the plot israther stupid and transparent , but that's not an issue in these kindof movies. It does hesitate a bit between being a good laughing movie(the Amish spring break was hilarious)and a grose pee-poo-fart movie(certain bedroom scenes), and that aspect keeps it charming enough. Theorange GTO 'Judge' is almost a character on its own , and for me, itwas by far the most attractive one :-)
I enjoyed 'Sex Drive'.It's a funny and crude movie that tells the storyabout a man named Ian who is willing to make a 500 mile journey just tolose his virginity to a girl he met on the internet.Like most moviesthat involve road trips, not everything goes according to plan.Forexample, Ian and his friends encounter a mean redneck who catches hisdaughter making out with one of Ian's friends.Talk about taking thewrong detour.Like I said, I enjoyed 'Sex Drive'.It had it's share offunny moments and I can't say that I regretted watching it.If JuddApatow, the director of 'The 40 Year Old Virgin', 'Knocked Up', and'Funny People', directed it, it would've been a smarter and bettercomedy.Too bad for the people who didn't like this movie. If you'regoing to watch this, be sure to rent it first before you buy it so youknow if it's any good. It's worth watching, but not quite worthy enoughto buy on DVD.6.5/10
Can't even live up to the lowest expectations of the genre.
Easily the funniest teensploit of 2008 so far!
