Mr. Big and Carrie buy a magnificent penthouse in Manhattan and they decide to get married. Enid Frick invites Carrie to take pictures for a special edition of Vogue about marriage of women of forty and something years. During the preparation, Carrie raises the guest list from seventy-five to two hundred guests, and a simple wedding dress to a fashionable Vivienne Westwood, intimidating Mr. Big in his third wedding. Meanwhile Miranda has no sex with Steve and he confesses that he had had one night stand with a woman. On the eve of the wedding, in the rehearsal dinner, the upset Miranda tells Mr. Big that marriage ruins everything. On the next day, the scared Mr. Big calls off the wedding leaving Carrie in the church. Carrie feels humiliated and depressed and Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte decide to travel to Mexico with Carrie to the hotel where she was supposed to spend her honeymoon. When Carries returns, she hires the assistant Louise to help her to organize her life. When Miranda discloses what she told to Mr. Big to Carrie in the rehearsal dinner, their friendship is shaken.

This review is from: Sex and the City: The Movie (Two-Disc Special Edition) (DVD) This movie was bitter sweet. Bitter b'c SATC is really over and sweet b'c we got one more taste of the girls. Although, I was alittle disappointed in Carrie and where was Sam. Watch and you'll see...
that loved the series will love the movie! Women all over the world bonded and cried and laughed with Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda. Thank you ladies and thank you New York!
Love, love, LOVE this movie!!! The gang is back to stick together through the rest of their lives in NYC. Through this film, each one makes the circle back to their true self. Enjoyable and magical! AND, although some parts might be deemed expected...don't expect the expected because there are many wonderfully happy and sad ones! Don't miss it!!! The is a MUST SEE!
Alright my name is Bruce im from Argentina and my brother and i watchthe TV show and it was a fine TYv show you know to see every night thebest alwayes was Samantha Kim Katrall is awesome and blond my favoritekind of woman The movie dessapointed me because its nothing new i meanwhat is the new thing? Carrie marying Big? Wow we always expect that inthe end i mean the movie did not provide any "Oh mi god!-like surprise"like you said "I never expect this" I mean the movie was OK far faraway from excellent but not to close to the awful And about thequestion about why The dark Knight is "real" and this not its becausebeyond being a guy with a disguise we know that for being a "not realthing" Batman its the representation of justice (in certeinly level)But SATC its not so good i mean the women are not like that...Rally disappointed with this
This review is from: Sex and the City: The Movie [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I have been a devoted SATC fan for years, and I was excited about the movie, but I couldn't seem to banish the feeling of dread that kept lurking--you know, the dread you feel when you are afraid that something you loved has been ruined in its transition to the big screen? Well, the dread is gone--SATC the movie lived up to my hopes and left me satisfied--and wanting to go back to see it again! There are definitely some things I would change--like including more storyline for the girls other than Carrie, and giving the guys (especially Harry, who I always loved) bigger parts--but overall the film does a good job of picking up where the series left off (albeit 4 years later) and recreating the chemistry between the four women. And the movie deals honestly with topics like aging, marital problems, and breakups, as you would expect from SATC.I would encourage fans of the show to definitely see this movie. Even if you've only seen the show a few times but you've enjoyed other "chick flicks" check this out--there is a handy montage at the beginning of the movie to get you up to speed. This BluRay is excellent if you have an iPod Touch or iPhone, because there is a free "digital copy" in the box that you can load onto your device! Also, the extended cut version of the movie includes a couple of cute scenes that weren't included in the theatrical cut. They fill out the movie a little, and feature a few more minutes of the SATC guys.
Yet another TV show {yawn} becomes a film. A gaggle of successful latethirty something women bitch, moan, and in general treat men like dirtas they wear designer clothes, try on shoes, live in overpricedapartment in gentrified neighborhoods,, advance their careers, attendfashion shows , go shopping ,and in general do the same thing they didin the late-and unlamented series. This disaster is overlong- 2 and ahalf hours- and, believe me it IS a chore to sit through. For die-hardfans only. The kind of movie that men get dragged to, and have to admitthey liked to please their dates. It gives "chick flicks" their badname. You've seen it all before-and better too. At least the girls aregood to look at{and fantasize about} and provide decent eye candy, butthats about it.Now don't get me wrong. I can enjoy a well made and wellacted "woman's film" just as much as the next guy, but this one justain't it.If all this is not bad enough, there are more productplacements in this film then you can shake a stick at. WARNING!! men, check your upper chest size after you leave the theater. The highestrogen level combined with the long running time may cause you todevelop boobies! One star-and I'm being kind to it.Stay away-stay veryaway!
Let me preface this by saying that I am a straight female who has beena fan of the SATC series since its second season. I have every episodeon DVD and have honestly seen every episode at least 5 times, includingthe commentaries by Michael Patrick King. That said, I could not bemore disappointed in the film. To say that this movie was for fans ofthe series is insulting in my opinion because where the series hadheart, depth and some intelligence, the movie had labels, poop jokesand lame choices by the characters.First of all, yes, Carrie Bradshaw is the main character, but could theother 3 women have been treating any more cavalierly? The "plot lines",if you can call them that, for the other characters seemed to be throwninto the mix just to give them something to do while Carrie ran aroundtown, changing outfits and hair colors to the delighted shrieks of 15year old fans. I can only imagine that was the audience the film wantedto capture because expecting grown women to follow this crap isinsanity.Secondly, the ending of the film made me completely lose respect forCarrie. I cannot imagine an emotionally healthy 41 year old womanmaking the same choice she made. I think she needs intensive therapybecause she is obviously a masochist who values the ability to purchasebrand name couture more than her own happiness. And if the ability tobuy couture is what makes her really happy, well, then, the 15 year oldtarget audience should be thrilled. That said, I probably will see the sequel. I'm hoping they bring inmore writers from the series to add some of the emotional oomph thatthis movie painfully lacked. *sigh* I just can't seem to quit SATC.
The reunion is fun and predictably fabulous but the movie eventually totters on its expensive Manolo Blahnik's, trying to stay upright for too long, gorging on too much of a good thing. Fun and frothy as it is, fleet of foot it's not.
OK, needless to say you need to be a fan of the show to enjoy the film.I liked the film, but I did NOT love it.TOO LONG.The part about Big & the wedding. Carrie was being Carrie & this upset him? She IS INTO the clothes, style, etc & she is being herself &he does not like it.IN this movie Carrie has NO financial problems. Just now had written 3 books. Throughout the show we heard her max out her credit card for shoes/clothes.They could have made Candace Bergen in her 1 brief scene look a little more done up. Made her look like an old woman working at "Vogue".For woman THE MUCH TALKED ABOUT "FULL MONTY" MALE SCENE. If you blink you will miss that part & it is in later in the film, NOT LIKE CLIPPING SHOW IT LEADS PEOPLE TO BELIEVE IT IS.The Miranda & Steve storyline we knew about before the film opened. Storybook ending.Stanford & Anthony did NOT like each other in the series, what is the difference here?Charlotte & Harry were just supporting characters in this. Hinted before the film opened she would FINALLY have a kid & does. NO SURPRISE.The small good Charlotte moment when she gets to confront "Big" Chris Noth. NEEDED THAT TO BE LONGER.I was totally unhappy how the Samantha & Smith storyline ended. While watching the film end you keep hoping for that storybook ending. You get disappointed.Jennifer Hudson's character I liked, she needed to be in it longer.A good effort but NOT as good as you would expect the film to be.DVD package. NO chapter search list. Just an advertisement & coupon for a digital copy.
Americans are so addicted to kicking things when they are up...and thatis what a lot of folks have done on here. The audience we were withloved it. Every complaint on here has come from people who obviouslydidn't get the show either (someone complained about thelabels...hello...did you ever see the show??? Did you notice the tie into the last narration given about 4 women in Manhattan???? There wasplenty of depth...and plenty of laughter....just like I would expectfrom these 4 and their friends. I felt like it was a huge familyreunion...and my only complaint is I will have to wait 4 more years foranother SATC movie. My take is....4 women being strong...not following their assignedrolls....will always make sexist...be they males sexist pigs or sexistfeminist pigs scream out in fear. Freedom...liberation aboutlove...sex...living....friendship and finding one's own destiny doesNOT play well to the general public here in the United States.
After staggering around a bit at the beginning it settles down and finds its groove. It's appropriately flashy, nicely naughty and wholly improbable, just as it's supposed to be.
Am a big fan of the show and thought the movie was brilliant. I reallyfelt for Carrie at the wedding and thought it was brilliant acting fromSarah Jessica Parker, Kristen Davies and Chris Noth. The plot seemed to be a bit slow in areas but when the big story lineskicked in the atmosphere was good.Great performance from Jennifer Hudson, I really think she supportedSarah Jessica Parker. It seemed that she brought Sarah's character backto life. The sub-plots were good and brought the story to life. All in all I think the movie was a good ending to the show and I can'twait to see if they bring the story to FINAL closing!
The movie was a wonderful extension of the HBO series. It tied up all the loose ends left from the show. Full of laughter and tears. It was the best movie I've seen in a long time.
I think people are complaining about this movie just for the sake ofcomplaining. This movie was fun, it was light and most importantly itwas fabulous. Women will love it, men will laugh with embarrassment andsecretly enjoy it. The fashion is amazing, and the biggest question ofall (will Carrie marry Big!?) is answered. The theme of this movie, forgiveness, is one that wasn't touched on enough in the show, and themovie did a good job of still keeping Carrie and the girls fabulouswith this new topic. With the same writers and cast members (and same costume person whodressed the girls in the show) the movie is true to the show; it issmart and witty, sexy and bold, and overall just fabulous.
I must admit that although I've watched every episode at least 10times, I can't say I'm a HUGE fan. I always felt the women were alittle too emotional and label-conscious for my liking, but theintriguing story lines and witty dialog have kept me hooked. Assuredthat watching the movie would be like watching a two-hour long episode,I was excited and hopeful the movie would not disappoint...boy was Iwrong.Where do I begin...I suppose the moment I knew something was awry waswhen Charlotte pooped her pants. SATC, although quite brazen with thesex, never had to lower to that kind of crassness. And, yes, Carrie issupposed to be obsessed with fashion and designer clothes, but while itwas just a side note in the series, the movie made it almost the focalpoint. It's almost disheartening when the "major" moments in the moviecame when Carrie was trying on wedding dresses, when she saw her newwalk-in closet, and when she gave her assistant a Louis Vuitton bag.Jennifer Hudson's character was also unnecessary and her story draggedthe movie. (Her unenthusiastic, horrible acting didn't help either.) Iwas hoping to see more evolution with the four relationships, butinstead the theme of each one stayed disappointingly constant:Charlotte and Harry were content, Samantha was growing distant fromSmith, Miranda and Steve had one big fight, and Big was having troublecommitting. And speaking of Big and Carrie's relationship, whathappened? First, I thought it was out of line for Carrie to not talk toBig for a whole year just because of his one moment of hesitation(which should be expected of him). Then all of a sudden at the end, shedecides out of the blue that she'll forgive him. Huh? This movie worksif you just want a mind-dulling, guilty pleasure with your girlfriends, but all in all, I felt this movie was stupid and not at all did theseries justice. I don't want to go so far as to say that anyone wholiked it probably isn't a true fan of the series, but I will say thatif you admired the wit and character development in the original seriesand that's what drew you in, you'd be quite dissatisfied with themovie. On the other hand, if you just liked the fashion and/or likedliving vicariously through the characters (who do not represent reallife!) then by all means, enjoy yourself. There was no central theme in the movie, and even though SATC pridesitself in representing strong, independent women, all I saw werestereotypical, moody, self-absorbed, shallow 40-year-olds who act likethey're in their 20s.This was just one a young person's (I'm 19) opinion of the movie.
How on earth is this movie rated 5.1 out of 10 by fans or is it ratedthis way by stupid people who have not watched the series on t.v & howcan any fan of the t.v series be disappointed ? this was very muchseason 7 rolled into a 2 hour 15 minute movie .I believe they carried this off really well , It was funny , moving &just like the t.v show , come on people get real this 5.1 rating dosenot make sense were most of you not watching the same movie ? . I meanit's got a B+ rating on movies yahoo so does this mean those fans aremore in tune & are the real fans ? .My wife & I actually brought season 6 & watched it right up to when wewent to see the movie ( did anyone do this ! ) & we found that themovie carried on where we left off only 3 years later .
Like many critics before me have said, I am not part of the targetaudience for 'Sex and the City'. I'm not a woman, and I never watchedthe HBO series religiously. I will say that I have caught a fewepisodes here and there in the weeks leading up to the movie, and it'snot half bad. It's light, funny, a guilty pleasure of sorts. In itstransition to the big screen, 'Sex and the City' retains a lot of whatmade the television series so popular, but this bloated picture alsolacks a certain spark that makes this merely okay. But it really doesn't matter what I think. Die-hard fans of the show, and there are many, will love what they see. But if you happen to beone of those who is not a big fan of the show, or haven't seen enoughof it to follow all the story lines, you may be out of luck. For me,this picture that exceeds two hours simply has too much on its plate. It's an entire season squeezed into one package, bringing new meaningto the term 'choppy'. Halloween, New Year's, Valentine's Day. Sixmonths, six long months. Fans will delight, but I just didn't find thisto be the guilty pleasure its counterpart embodies so well.I've always been fascinated by the allure of these four women. To behonest, they're not very likable people. They're shallow busybodies whohave enough money and time to do whatever they please. And it may bejust this that explains the phenomenon. Perhaps 'Sex and the City'offers an escape for women around the world, a glamorous andunrealistic fantasy that's easy to long for. Sarah Jessica Parker, KimCattrall, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon have all come to embodytheir characters quite perfectly, and I do believe they've given it -and fans - their all. There's just not a substantive script to givethem a needed boost. For what it is, 'Sex and the City' does exactly what it set out to do.A love letter to New York and the millions of fans who have stuck bytheir side for ten years. It's a light, breezy piece of entertainment.Funny at times, serious at others, and no shortage of romance and sex.Kim Cattrall's witty one-liners are still hilarious, and Carrie'srelationship with Big as dry as ever. It's a sprawling experience, andat times feels like it will never end. But as I said when I firstopened, 'Sex and the City' was not made for me. Perhaps in a few yearswhen I'm all caught up on the show, but for now this long anticipatedmovie is mostly forgettable.More reviews atrottentomatoes.com/vine/journal_view.php?journalid=219276&view=public
This movie is a perfect keeper for the Sex And the City fan. Due to the way the movie begins and covers the girls lives a new comer will also enjoy this movie.Sex and the City: The Movie lives up to expectations. This takes you not only through Carrie's life and brings you up to her current life's story, but also brings you up to speed on Carrie's friends lives.I can speed this up and say "Buy the DVD, you wont be disappointed."
As a major fan of the series and having seen the movie I couldn't wait to get my DVD (I own the whole TV series on DVD)...love the movie and the special extras DVD included.
The movie's initially brisk pacing slackens when the girls spend a holiday in Mexico that's long enough for them to cycle through an entire resort-wear collection.
