Adam Harris, a semi-lame senior, is head over heels in love with Cara. Unfortunately she is the most popular girl in school. On the one day of the year that he could actually have a chance, senior skip day, he screws it all up by accidentaly slipping the location of the party to his principle. But have no fear, in a last resort effort he moves the party to his house and all seems to be well. Or is it...

Not bad at all. Worth a look.If you're looking for a film with meaning keep on looking. If you wanta little escapist fun then have a look.Unlike another reviewer I do not think this is as good as FerrisBueller's Day Off. The script isn't really all that similar except forthe psycho prinicpal. Ferris was "king of the school" skips class for aday of fun. This movie is "school loser throws a party for the wholeclass and becomes semi-cool". They do have characters talking to thescreen in common. I do agree it's pretty much a copy of the premisethough. The main difference between the 2 movies is the quality of the cast. These guys aren't terrible, and there are actually some pretty goodperformances, but they don't match the quality of the Ferris cast. The male lead, Gary Lundy, is okay if a bit blah. His unrequited loveinterest is played in a likable and competent way by Kayla Ewell. Bothare basically unknowns, at least to me. Tara Reid is pretty goodalthough in a fairly small part. She doesn't look as hot as she used tobut then she's not playing a teen lead anymore. And Lea Thompson stilllooks too good to be anybody's mom, but does a nice job. Larry Milleris kind of irritating but does okay. Clint Howard is the same asalways, no Macbeth but a quirky and funny character. Not much else to say really. I didn't bust a gut laughing but I enjoyedit.
WARNING: May contain spoilers. However, I recommend that no one see this movie, so it might not matter if I spoil too much. This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It is a typical American Pie/Not Another Teen Movie/blah blah formula, which does not work for it at all. I must admit, I am an avid fan of American Pie, but this movie, which tries to imitate it too much, is a disgrace. Why? The entire thing revolves around a young boy's funeral - a boy that had cancer but that died during a skydiving accident which was his last wish before cancer killed him. The movie makes fun of this horrible event by having the funeral be the excuse for the senior skip day party, and also be the alibi when the students get caught. Some of the party even TAKES PLACE AT THE FUNERAL! This entire idea is absurd, offensive, and totally distasteful. To use such a devastating event as an excuse for alcohol driven orgies is the most ridiculous idea I have ever heard of.And not just the storyline, but the acting itself was ridiculous. The cast is full of (rightfully) unknowns, except for Tara Reid who shows up for a second to put up a ghastly, unconvincing performance, and encourage the atrocious event. I think all these actors buried their acting careers with this movie, unless they plan on going into the porn industry, for which they are all too qualified.I would absolutely recommend that no one wastes their time with this movie. It is so very predictable, and I finished watching the entire thing in 30 minutes, since I was fast-forwarding through most of the predictable parts. And let me tell you, missing almost an hour of the movie did not confuse me at all, it followed the same awful formula as any other teen party movie, except in the worst way possible. Don't see this movie, because it is absolutely a waste of time.
you know how it is with these kind of movies..they usually throw one ortwo almost notable actors in the mix to garner interest and its usuallyhorrific all the way through.well this one surprised me a little, not only was it funny but itdidn't run too long and it wasn't that immature for a high schoolmovie.Larry Miller is priceless in this(as he is in just about every role).the scene when he gets handed the cocaine by the mobster is so funny tome when he's like "ohhh this is plenty" or when he's on the phone withhis secretary and zones out like "hello my old friend" and takes awhiff..the only parts i didn't really like were that i think the maincharacter was kind of miscast, either that or he was just kind ofannoying, especially at the party when he singles out the girl helikes, he came off so corny there...the girls boyfriend was hilariousthough, he played that role very well and made us all wonder what shereally wanted him for in the first place.the movie wasn't great by any means but if you're trying to find a teenstyle comedy that isn't one of these run of the mill national lampoonsor ___movies(insert Scary, Date, etc), then check out Senior Skip Day.
Recap: Adam Harris is not the most popular guy at high school. And hereally hits a new low when he accidentally reveals the whereabouts ofthe senior skip day party to the principal. But he narrowly escapes abeating from the entire senior class by tricking the principal to givethem the day off. And then he have to arrange the party at his ownhouse. But that might be harder than you think when no one really likesyou. But with a few lingerie-models, a lot of alcohol, and the wonderthat is picture messaging soon the entire class is at Adam's. With thatfeat accomplished, he might also have a shot at the girl of his dreams.Comments: Not much to say really. This is a average comedy made forhigh school teenagers, and probably most boys, using all the standardsteps. Get a standard story that has been done before, say, an underdogthat must win the heart of the school's most beautiful girl from themost popular guy. Throw in a couple of low jokes (some are a littlefunny though), mainly about sex and drugs, and a little nudity andyou're done.It is not really bad at what it aim to do, but some effort to makesomething new or at least adding some twist or surprise developmentwould have been nice. Instead this movie goes for predictability andfamiliarity. Unfortunately for me, I require a little more to take aliking to a movie. Not that I expected much else. How Tara Reid and above all Lea Thompson got mixed up in this is theonly surprising element of the movie. But I guessed they got paidrelatively well to add some credibility and star power to the movie, because they are not really in the movie, but for a few scenes.Don't expect too much, and you won't be too disappointed. I didn't andI wasn't, but I still feel that I could have spent the time better, orwatching something else. Totally forgettable.3/10
I saw the debut of this film at the Ft. Lauderdale Film Fest and was impressed with the lead actor and the director. This somewhat raunchy comedy is not the genre that I usually seek out but this film had some truly funny moments, and the comic timing was excellent. The lead actor reminds me of a young John Cusack. The director Nick Weiss spoke at the Q&A afterwards, and I was shocked to learn that the film was shot in 3 weeks! It looks great! I'm glad to see it was picked up for release. Check it out - I do think we'll be seeing more from these folks in the future.
this is the best movie ever made!!!!!!!!!!!!!go buy it!!!talan
are you kidding me? this is the worst movie i've ever seen in my life.i feel asleep after the first five minutes. it is in no ways funny. ithought it was a local movie or something at first. i can't believeit's national. there is no plot, way too many events that make nosense, and the lead actor keeps talking to the camera. it's boring anddumb. maybe if i didn't fall asleep though, i would have liked it.after looking at the cover, i thought it would be similar to Americanpie, a stupid but entertaining movie. this movie is just stupid and notentertaining. i'm sorry if i'm offending anyone, but this is just myopinion. i really hated it. my favorite part of the whole movie wastalon though. he was on laguna beach and was a complete hunk. i'msurprised that he can act.
This is NOT a Ferris Bueller rip-off. About the only thing the twomovies have in common skipping school (in Ferris Bueller's case 3people, & here the entire senior class) & an obsessed principal whogets into trouble.Unlike Ferris Bueller, the main character Adam, is not cool but tryingto become cool and he is trying to win over a girl. Also unlike FerrisBueller he does not have an adventure going around the city, but isthrowing a party at his house. There is a sister involved, but she's onhis side.In other words, the movie is an original, not a copy with lots of funnymoments and likable characters. If I had to compare it to any movie,I'd compare it to Can't Hardly Wait, although that was more of aromantic comedy, while this movie is pure comedy.
this movie really keeps you guessing on where its gonna go nextcharacters were hilarious, and the comedy itself was delightfully random... and the funeral scenes end up bein some of the funniest oneseasily out performs most teen comedys... id even go as far to say its tied with the first american pie in my book
This review is from: Senior Skip Day (Unrated) (DVD) What are these other reviewers thinking??!! I bought this because so many of them said it was funny, yet there was not one laugh to be had in the whole movie. The acting is just awful, and Tara, Lea, and Norm had glorified 2 minutes each and were just along for a paycheck. A truly bad movie. One of the worst and unfunniest movies I have ever seen. If I could give 0 stars, I would have. They just do not make good teen comedies anymore. Any of the American Pie movies were 10,000 times funnier and better written and acted.
This review is from: Senior Skip Day (Unrated) (DVD) The premise of this movie is pretty straightforward: every year, according to a tradition, the senior class takes a day off. The Principal of the school is determined to wreck the plans of the senior class. A geeky dude is caught in the middle of it all. One of the "innovations" of this film is to feature 2 alumni of party movies & teen flicks - this time as the adult figures. Lea Thompson (Some Kind of Wonderful (Special Collector's Edition), All the Right Moves and Casual Sex?) stars as the mother of the geek. As she's about my age, this film made me feel kind of old! Meanwhile, Tara Reid (American Pie - Unrated (Widescreen Collector's Edition) and National Lampoon's Van Wilder - Unrated (Two-Disc Special Edition)) is the geek's older sister. Obviously, the inside joke is that Thompson & Reid used to be in these very sorts of films starring as the teens-running-amock. Ultimately, while the nostalgia of Thompson & Reid was nice, I found this film on the lame side. There are a comical parts, but nothing that made me have a guffaw of a laugh. The funeral that supposedly lasts the whole day is well beyond the realm of believablity. Also, for a film that advertises itself as "unrated and uncut," it's on the tame side. It's a far cry from crazy flicks such as National Lampoon's Animal House and Old School (Widescreen Unrated Edition). So, if you're in the market for a party movie, I would pass this one over as there are plenty of other PM flicks that are much more worthwhile. This one isn't terrible (perhaps just a shade shy of 3 stars), but isn't noteworthy, either. Perhaps the one thing that might draw the curious to this film is Lea Thompson playing the mother in a party flick. Of course, that's pretty much just out of nostalgia alone.
I watched this movie with an open mind, considering the reviews of how great the movie was. I just watched and yeah it has it's funny moments, i'll give it that. But they are few and far between. It is a clever movie, and it could have been a fun watch, if there had not been so much focus on a sexy girl dancing just about every 5 minutes and swearing happening just about every 30 seconds. I am a fan of American pie it is a guilty pleasure. But this is a fraction of what a american pie was. The stars Norm MacDonald, Lea Thompson, and Tara Reidget enough screen time to mentioned as cameos.I am not trying to ruin anyones parade I just would like to let people know what they are in for. Yes, it was good if you like the cheesy national lampoons they release now, which I will say was probably a little better than that, but not by much. So if you like those cheesy national lampoons movies and can handle swearing every 30 seconds then you could like this movie.so my over all opinion is this movie is for those who like cheesy comedies without much substance. Which is a lot of people. However it you are looking for the same experience that american pie or animal house gave you could be disappointed. now as for the positive outlook for which is few, there is some humor that is funny. The principal Larry Miller mainly carries the humor through movie along with the funeral rap song which is mildly amusing. This also is a start for two up and coming new stars, Gary Lundy and Kayla Ewell who were both pretty good. It is a shame this movie could have been saved for columbia or warner bros instead of firstlook, if they just tweaked the script a little bit.You can have a funny movie without constant swearing and sexy girls.example...animal house, porky's, and american pie. I give this movie two stars, it could have been three and a half with a better script. It's funny but, this will probably be the only bad review this movie will get.
I saw this film in Ft. Lauderdale at the Film Festival. The writer Evan Wasserstrom is a genius!! It reminded me of Ferris Bueller meets Fast times at Ridgemont High! Hysterical and blew away movies like American Pie!! Highly recommended!!!
Senior loser Adam Harris (Gary Lundy) is invited to the senior skip dayparty at Principal Dickwalder's (Larry Miller) house. But heaccidentally slips the news to the Principal, and the whole seniorclass now wants his blood. But Adam and his two friends come up with a plan - have the party athis house instead! So he invites all the seniors to come, and a hugeparty ensues, with the Principal driving all over town trying to findout where the senior skip day party is at."Senior Skip Day" tries too hard to be this generation's "FerrisBueller's Day Off," but fails in every aspect. Sure, some of the jokesare funny, but the stock characters and lack of character developmentin the lead all leads the viewer to an overall disappointing feelingafter viewing this direct-to-DVD teenage comedy.
This review is from: Senior Skip Day (Unrated) (DVD) the product was great and in great condition and lastly arrived in a timely fashion
I am going to give you my honest opinion that this is without a doubt the worst movie i have ever seen. I cant believe that there was someone out there who read this script and would have the stupidity to put money into making it into a movie. I really do hate every single scene in this entire movie, they would all not happen in real life, or were just completely unfunny. I was surprised that they messed up the story, since a Senior Skip Day is not a difficult idea to follow, but yes the filmmakers f****d that up. I would comment on the poor acting, but the film was lucky enough to have Razzie nominee Tara Reid show up for a cameo. You may think that this will be so stupid its funny, but for your own sake just please dont watch it. it is as difficult to watch as 2 girls one cup, and that is only funny when you trick someone else into watchin it.
The movie is excellent from start to finish. The young stars give great performances and Larry Miller adds a lot to the fun. All ages will appreciate.
AWFUL!This movie is by far the worst movie I have ever seen. The maincharacter was a horrible actor. The entire movie it seems as if he istrying to be Ryan Reynolds performance in Van Wilder and it doesn'thappen. This movie has plot holes galore. And ten minutes in will leave youwondering if you missed something. The characters in this movie are either the obvious stereotype thatwe've seen a thousand time (The Overly Out Of Touch Stoner, TheCheating Football Playing Asshole Boyfriend, The Gorgeous Long TimeCrush Of The Main Character (Who Is Still A Virgin... Somehow) etc.) orthey are totally over the top and annoying (The Physically ViolentPrincipal, The PETA Member Who Gives Up Her Morales After 2 Beers And ABong Toke, etc.)This movie is the Dane Cook of movies. They took the best parts fromall other teen movies, but made them so outrageous and obnoxious theynot only aren't funny anymore, they actually inspire hatred and makeone consider murder.Things This Movie Taught Me: - Mobsters don't know how to lock doors, always carry copious amounts of cocaine, and are very trusting ofpeople they just met - All black people know at least one Hip Hopsinger - If you really love a girl and she's just about to sleep withsomeone else... Don't worry, Something always goes wrong - High Schoolstudents are very accepting of the outsider especially when he danceslike an idiot by him self, in fact his individualism will cause them toaccept him even more - Beautiful women take being tricked very well, infact they can not tell the difference between a legit photographer andan 18 year old with a fake mustache. But don't worry even if they dofigure it out IT'S OK!!! Just admit you tricked them and they will taketheir clothes off and stay for your party, because they have nothingbetter to do with their life's.I have more but, you get the idea. As Jeffery Ross would say:This movie had to be filmed in Hi-Def, because the only way someonewould enjoy it is if they were High and Deaf.
I saw this on HBO lateish last night and should have gone to bed withan early start today, but I stayed up with my girlfriend to watch itall the way through. Glad I did.Films always have something they're trying to achieve. This film'sthere to make you laugh, particularly if you're sub-30 and probablysub-20 and for that it's great. It's not meant to be deep - it's stupidwith a lot of good gags.I scrape in sub-30 and so remember Ferris Bueller's Day Off from the80s. Like Family Guy figuring copying the Simpsons set-up was the bestidea, so they've copied the set-up almost completely - High Schoolstudent getting away with party day, getting his girl, graduated sisterhalf-covering for him and Principal chasing him around town (with fatsecretary holding the fort). Oh, and a dead relative. You know it's shallow, but that's why it's good. Does what it'ssupposed to, hence the 8.
"Skip Day" is about a student who screws up the 'skip day' party by letting the principal know where it was to be held. He redeems himself by having the party at his place. The plot, if you can call it one, is the principal trying to find where it is to bust it but is sent on a wild goose chase instead, all while the dork having the party wants to win over a girl, but the girl is taken by a guy who is the typical moron that is only after one thing and is typically cheating on her and doesn't deserve her and ...euhh... blah blah blah blah... you know what comes next.Nothing original, and nothing that stood out well enough to call it memorable. See it if you can't get enough of the party movies, but don't expect anything to have you rolling on the floor with laughter.Edit: well, it's now 2011, and I have no recollection of ever seeing this movie. Guess that proves what I said about it being memorable!
