Satan's Little Helper

During Halloween, theater student Jenna Whooly returns to Bell Island to spend the holiday with her family and her boyfriend Alex Martin, a classmate of hers who was also raised on the island. Her younger brother Douglas Dougie Whooly is very attached to Jenna and is fascinated with the video game Satans Little Helper, and he becomes jealous with the presence of Alex. He leaves home wearing his costume of Satans little helper, seeking Satan himself on the streets so he can ask him to kill Alex. Dougie meets a serial killer who, coincidently, is wearing a costume of Satan and decides to help him. He brings the insane murderer home, and Jenna and her mother Merrill Whooly believe that the masked killer is Alex acting like Satan to please Dougie. Later, the boy walks with the maniac along the streets, helping him to terrorize the locals.

Funny and entertaining horror B flick

I hate slasher movies. There is always this guy with a stupid maskkilling stupid screaming people running into him. But Satan's LittleHelper is not like that. It has a lot of dark humour and even a strongmessage about the icons we choose to put our faith into. The killercycles through Satan, Jesus and Policeman and delivers tons of chucklesand funny scenes.Unfortunately, the only acting was done by the killer who (how annoyingit must have been for the actor) wore a mask the whole time. AmandaPlummer looked stonier than ever and the sexy blonde girl (whoironically played an acting school student) was plain awful. You shouldsee her saying with a rather normal tone "he killed my father and hetook my mom". The kid and the (ahem!) young actor also were miserable.I would say this one is a superior slasher movie with a lot of comedyadded. The premise was the most positive thing. Don't expect too muchinto movie quality, though, just have fun.

pitch-black horror comedy from Jeff Lieberman

Writer-director Jeff Lieberman made a trio of low budget horror filmsmore than twenty years ago that have gone on to become cult favorites. He returns to the genre, quite successfully with SATAN'S LITTLE HELPER,an ode to the occasion of Halloween and the kinds of films that floodedcinemas after HALLOWEEN debuted in 1978. What makes this film differentis Lieberman has approached the material with a ghoulishly funny senseof humor. Think of this as the "B" side to BAD SANTA - another seasonalblack comedy that was as shocking as it was funny for totallyabandoning any & all notions of being politically correct. Liebermandoes the same here: he's an equal opportunity offender who casts hissatirical gaze over a pretty wide range of subjects.Like BAD SANTA the film pivots around a little boy who is a long wayfrom being the sharpest tool in the shed; for certain he has troubleseparating fact from fantasy. Dad's got him hooked on a computer gamecalled "Satan's Little Helper", and for Halloween he wants to be justthat. He hopes if he's good enough Satan will actually show up. Whilestrolling the neighborhood in his little devil costume he spies ahulking black-clad man with a goat-horned Satan mask arranging corpseson the front lawns of houses in broad daylight. Convinced he's Satan hehappily introduces himself to the silent marauder and offers to be hishelper, provided he tags along home to kill his sister's new boyfriend. The boy is having a great time as this Satan terrorizes and killsassorted townspeople, convinced it's all phony. The boy's family isequally confused, believing this to be the sister's boyfriend playingan elaborate charade. By time they know the truth all proverbial hellhas broken loose in the small town.SATAN'S LITTLE HELPER is the kind of movie destined to be a cultfavorite, as Lieberman knows how to construct scenes that are bothunnerving and horrific, and within a few breaths is pushing buttonsthat elicit the kind of laughs where you say "I can't believe he justdid that!". This is a low budget film, and certain aspects of thescript seem either careless or not fully realized. The character of theboy is one of the most annoying child characters I've seen in a film -you can't help but want to reach out and smack him. The suggestion isat a certain age a child's rich fantasy life makes the fact / fictionseparation a precarious task, yet the kid (like in BAD SANTA) justseems so dense he becomes a distraction. What manages to save that frombecoming a detriment is just how successful Lieberman realizes hisSatan Man character, a killer worthy of joining the likes of Jason,Michael, Freddy, & Leatherface in the horror hall of fame. Performancewise the strongest work comes from Katheryn Winnick as the sister,Joshua Annex as the Satan Man (without ever speaking his entireperformance is a gleefully dark pantomime, and he really puts himselfinto the part), and Amanda Plummer's goofy variation on the Motherrole. There are many more pluses than minuses here. I'm happy to see JeffLieberman back, and with such a twisted little film. It's bound to makeyou look more closely at those gruesome Halloween front-lawn displaysin your neighborhood.

Enjoyable but not as good as I had hoped.

Satan's Little Helper starts as Merrill Whooly (Amanda Plummer),accompanied by her young son Douglas (Alexander Brickel), drives alongintending to pick up her teenage daughter Jenna (Katheryn Winnick) &her boyfriend Alex (Stephen Graham) from the dock as they plan onspending Halloween together. Recently Douglas has become obsessed witha computer game called 'Satan's Little Helper' & he thinks he is thecharacter from the game, Satan's little helper himself & Douglas setsout to find his master, Satan. While innocently walking down the streetDouglas spots someone in a spooky Satan outfit (Joshua Anex) & thinksthat he has found Satan, Douglas goes up to him & ask's if he needs ahelper to which the mysterious guy nods & they walk off together. Eventhough Douglas thinks that the antics they get up to are pretend inreality it's deadly serious as the guy in the Satan outfit murders justabout anyone who crosses his path, but who is the man behind the mask &what are his motives...Written, co-produced & directed by Jeff Lieberman I thought Satan'sLittle Helper was a decent enjoyable horror film with a nice darklycomic feel to it but I didn't think it was brilliant. The script movesalong at a nice pace & the central idea is quite original, cool & workspretty well but the film repeats itself too many times & repetitivenessbecame a problem, while the simple idea worked well it was perhaps abit too simple at times to stretch out over 100 minutes. I found mostof the character's likable except for, surprise, surprise, the annoyingkid Douglas who got on my nerves. What is it about obnoxious irritatingchild actors in films, why do they annoy so much? Anyway, I wasn't keenon the ending either which I think you will either love or hate, somewill like the element of mystery while other's will dislike the factthe killer is never revealed, neither are his motives & everything isjust left hanging in the air with almost no resolution. Personally Iwas throughly disappointed by the ending as I was hoping for someunexpected twist or revelation which unfortunately never came & as theend credits rolled I sat there thinking 'is that it? I want my time &money back!'.Director Lieberman does a nice job & this looks like a reasonablybudgeted film despite the cheap looking shot-on-video appearance. TheSatan costume is absolutely brilliant, it's as simple & straightforward as that. I want one of those masks which verge between cute &totally evil, there's a real twisted look about him & I never quiteknew how to feel about him, except that I was jealous of him because hehas one of those cool masks & I don't. Git. The gore is verydisappointing as there's barely any, a cat has it's head smashed in,there are a few bloodless stabbings & someone has their guts cut out &tied to a chair (for no apparent reason) in the films goriest scene.Technically the film is good & a hell of a lot better than most of thelow budget horror crap that litter video shop shelves, you know thesort of thing, films that have great video box artwork but when youactually watch the thing it's total crap. The acting was good exceptfor the annoying brat of a kid & Winnick is a nice looking young ladywho is very easy on male viewers eyes.Satan's Little Helper is a good solid horror film that I liked but itwasn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination. Definitely worth awatch especially if your a fan of the genre, better than most modernlow budget horror although that's not hard to achieve these days...

You either get the joke or you don't

This review is from: Satan's Little Helper (DVD) The cheesy cover box actually prevented me from renting it. Finally one week, there was nothing else to rent so I picked it up expecting to fast forward through most of it. I was pleasantly wrong! This is the best straight-to-video movie I've seen in a long time; and I'm a horror elitist. Of course it's not high budget, but the black comedy more than makes up for it.The little kid is annoying and you hope he gets killed, but the rest of the film compensates for it.

VampireOutlaw 2012-05-16 14:38:18

...should be NC-17....

I won't spoil the end but this should pass as a warning to those whohave a heart and not way too twisted sense of humor.OK. I gave this 7 out of 10 only because this is one of the bestthrillers I've seen. In a way. You couldn't really guess what wouldhappen next. Some things were quite obvious closer to the end butstill.But... This is also one of the SICKEST peace of work I've ever had thedispleasure to see. Dark humor - oh yes, dark humour is great, butsometimes it goes too far to be fun anymore.I've seen tons of thrillers and horror movies from side to side forbeing a fan of them for almost 9 years. I'm 22 now.I mean, please. If you're in your full senses and have a heart at all,you probably wouldn't laugh when the psycho squashes a smallish blackcat into a wall, mops the wall with it, writing "BOO" with the cat'sblood. And seriously, though I knew he just might to something TO theanimal, I never thought he'd to that to it and WITH it.Well, that was only one thing. Next thing that bothered me was thescene where the psycho goes to an old and invalid lady's door, when shefinally manages to open the door, he knocks her to th floor and soonenough we see how he hangs her from her home's roof. He hangs, an old, sick, helpless lady. Tell me, where's the humor in that? And the tip of it was closer to the ending, where the 9-year old boywon't believe her big-sister that his "Satan" is truly a psychopath.Their father (nice and good-hearted seeming man) has just come home, the boy calls out to his "Satan" to come out and take his father's gutsout. Well, he does come and take his guts out. The scene is also filmedquite closely, how he cuts the father from his groins to his throat, pulls his gut out and...well, you get the picture. And all this whilethe little boy and the rest of the family are watching. All the boycould do was cry out he didn't mean it...That being the most disturbing moment I probably ever have seen, andfor he first time in my life I actually cried of agony while watching amovie. And then of course, there was this blasphemy. I'm not religiousactually, so I couldn't care for what it is, but still it was simplysick. Two ladies stabbing and beating a figure disguised as Jesus. Andthat also, of course, filmed closely. And generally the atmosphere in this movie and it's idea that a littlechild is so dumb that follows and helps a psychotic serial killer, atone point asking him to take him to Hell, is with all that I alreadytold, what should make this movie clearly NC-17.I don't know if it is rated that anywhere, but here in my home countryit is only R and that's...freaking retarded decision from those whorate the movie.I see no comedy in this what-so-ever. If you want black comedy,well-done, better dark humour, watch the movie "Heathers".Because sad to say, but I think many parents let their little kidswatch R-rated movies way easier than NC17 ones. And even if it's personal how much one can take, children/youngteenagers shouldn't get to view this film. If you're already un-stabledpersonality/mind, this won't do you good, at all. This movie seems simply 1 hour 32 minutes of as sick scenes aspossible. WOuldn't wanna know the script writer(s). They must be wrongin the head to make a movie out of them. It's real life. Yeah, sure it is. But isn't that enough? Must you makeit into a movie and give it to teenagers and children to watch. Thereare a lot of people who most likely get affected by this, in very badmanner. Just like the kid in this movie got brainwashed by the game andcouldn't sop until it was too late.At least respect the rating and remember it should be higher - beforeyou watch it or let your child watch it.Some black humour just gets too black to be normal what-so-ever.

Ran out of steam

This movie has a pretty absurd premise (it's hidden in the title, sothat doesn't count as a spoiler)! I could only hope that it would atleast kind of live up to that crazy expectation ... and it did at thebeginning! It was as it should be, black humor and sick jokes all over the place.Just as it should be, with a movie like that. No political correctnessin sight, that would've just be a distraction! A bad one, too! For afew people the first bump will be, that there is no nudity in themovie. But you know, although this is a horror movie, where you kind ofexpect that, I didn't think that was a bad thing. It went againstexpectations for once in the right place. The jokes worked withoutthat, too! But then it happens ... what I mentioned in the subject line ... it's ashame, but the movie just runs out of ideas and just gets annoying froma certain point on. And it's a shame too, because it all felt good andright up to that point, but after that it's downhills ...Still worth a watch on DVD, if you like off-balance, black humor, thatisn't political correct!

Don't watch this movie alone..

...alone and sober.Because I don't think you'll resist the bad actingand boring moments. But if you watch it drunk with couple of mates then it changes thewhole perspective on this movie. The bad acting turns into "funny as hell" acting :- the young blondeplaying scared like in a audition to a Shakespeare piece; - the naivekid - being stupid, but hey he almost got Satan score on his sister; -the young man playing the idiotic hero; - Satan (he have some goodideas); ..and having it's moments of glory this movie really turns outto be truly enjoyable. But remember: drunk/sober - completely different perspectives!

Jonathan Gryveken 2012-05-03 14:30:21

Remember, it is a comedy!!!

It has been a while since I laughed so hard at any movie that I did tothis one. From the first second of cheap footage to the last name inthe credits it felt like a movie my 13 years old little brother couldhave written, directed, recorded, edited and then given away to a "knownothing" movie company. The fact that the so called killer is always hiding behind a Halloweencostume and never actually talks is kind of annoying. But still, hegave me lots of laughs through his body language. And that is justbecause of the overacting he uses to compensate for not having anylines. As for the rest, we have a insane mother that understandnothing, we have a standard semi sexy sister that understand nothing, and finally we have the little boy, that really understand nothing. The movie is never scary, interesting, action filled or dramatic. It isonly funny. It is funny in the way that you find something embarrassingfunny. You know what I am talking about, it is something you reallydon't want to see but just have to because it makes you laugh.

Pitch black humour and laughs throughout

I had really low expectations going into this film as I haven't likedeither of the Jess Lieberman films I'd seen previously (Squirm, JustBefore Dawn); but what I found with this film was an inventive andmoderately amusing little film that benefits from a talented cast and aclever screenplay. Satan's Little Helper is a pitch black horror comedythat finds time to poke fun at the American institution of Halloween,as well as ideas such as 'video games create killers'. The central ideais more than a little bit silly, but it also shows great imagination;as the idea of having a young boy unwittingly help a serial killerisn't immediately obvious, and the director does a good job ofmanipulating his characters into the situation he wants them in.Satan's Little Helper revolves around Douglas Whooly; a young boyobsessed with the video game, coincidentally called 'Satan's LittleHelper', which was bought for him by his father. After witnessing thelocal serial killer arranging his victims outside his house, the kidmistakes it for an act and offers his help to the killer; which is dulyaccepted. The fact that the lead character is a young boy gives the film a sortof childish horror feel; and Jeff Lieberman brilliantly offsets thiswith a number of amazingly gruesome scenes, which see things such as acat being used to write 'boo' on the wall in blood, as well asintestines being used to tie a knot and a particularly grisly stabbingsequence towards the end. The director has also managed to pull in somegood B-movie talent to act out his movie. Amanda Plummer is the biggestname on the cast list, and she bodes well with her role as slightly oddmother. The beautiful Katheryn Winnick was the highlight for me, and nodoubt most other male audience members, as she looks great and heracting isn't bad either. Child actor Alexander Brickel, and StephenGraham round off the central cast and overall, this movie doesn't havemany problems where the acting is concerned. Jeff Lieberman's sense ofhumour may not be to everyone's taste; but I found it delightful, andthe way the screenplay constantly harks back to earlier events is good.Overall, this may not be a brilliant film; but it's entertaining andfun and therefore gets a big thumbs up.

His wooly wich got hard

Satan's Little Helper will most likely draw you in from the freakish pumpkin holding creature on the front cover, assuring you a heavy dose of B horror. Now obviously we weren't going into it with any legitimate expectations but were expecting some laughable B. In a few ways it did deliver but mostly leaves you feeling moderately entertained at best. Really the biggest set back is the ultra annoying pudgeball main character Douglas Wooley. His character is beyond the realm of frustrating and has one of those faces you just want to punch over and over again. Sid felt kind of bad having that reaction about a kid but his chubby little face with the round Santa specs and horrible acting just made us cringe all the way through. The movies starts out with chunkie Wooley on a Halloween quest to find the devil and be his sidekick. His big inspiration comes from a video game, yeah big surprise his fat a** sits inside all day playing video machines, in which the devil laces people up earning you points. For some reason this translates into reality for him since he has no friends. He somehow finds the devil (who is a merely a guy wearing Halloween mask..NO JOKE) and begins reeking havoc throughout the B town. That's pretty much the story in a nut shell with a handful of laughs and a really hot older sister. That right there is the true 3 star earning.Since Sid is a big fan of any Halloween themed horror we decided Santan's Little Helper needed to be done. It's one of those flicks that's been on the back burner for a few years that we finally got around too. We knew it'd be poor grade B but overall enjoyed the watch for a one time viewing. Like stated before the main character is just so irritating that you just watch the full thing in hopes he'll be offed at some point. Odds are this one won't be leading him into a long successful acting career...or even a straight to video $5 bin career either. He'll most likely work part-time at Arby's filling the remainder of his time wackin it in the tool shed in between playing Worlds of Warcraft in his parents basement. This kid makes Mike Rodgers look like the soak of the year.

Please... I wish someone would've killed ME before I finished it...

Okay, it's a FAIR idea that maybe had a little promise IF, and I domean IF, it was done well. I don't know what the hell happened to JeffLieberman but he should know WAY better than this.Very simple... If you just edit out all the stupid 'Dead Air', of whichthere is a bloody TON of it, say bring the film down from a ridiculous100 minutes (for THIS story, are you frig g n kidding me?!!!) and chopout about at LEAST 20 minutes of nonsense, most of which where forabsolutely NO reason what so ever people are just standing and staringand saying nothing for LONG LONG periods of time, IF you do that thenMAYBE you would have a fun little entertaining film with some nicechilling touches a la a VERY VERY low rent 'HALLOWEEN' I truly just cannot get my mind around the fact that Lieberman afterall the experience that he has had, would be so incredibly dense as tocompletely RUIN the film by allowing all this useless footage thatabsolutely KILLS any momentum or sense of Horror at all.A VERY VERY VERY stupid waste of what COULD have been a film that atleast somewhat merits the 5 1/2 stars that it is rated here.NO excuse...

jedo_team 2012-04-24 17:20:44

black comedy doesn't come around so often and this is a welcome break, but nothing more

Sometimes you can't help but wonder whether what you experience whilewatching a movie is the same thing as what the makers intended it tobe. Satan's Little Helper is a dark comedy and it is hard to figure outif it's supposed to be as ridiculous and stupid as it is.A little boy is a fan of Satan's character as a result of playing agame. When he comes across someone dressed as Satan on Halloween, heparts with him, not realizing the reality of the damage they're aboutto unleash.Just explaining the plot already makes me realize that many thingscould've been less stupid, more scary and more funny than they are.The low budget is apparent from almost everything. The video has ashow-look rather than a movie-look. The majority of actors are fromB-grade to unknown. The murders are done with minimum gore, and theonly really gory death looks really cheap. As customary with most horror movies, this one is full ofthis-would-never-happen moments. If that's not off putting enough, theacting is really inappropriate. In situations where a normal personwould scream and panic and run, the characters in Satan's Little Helperwalk around engaging in mediocre dialogue with dead passion. There werea few moments where the music would not be present, even though thesituation obviously called for it. Everything about this production isshaky.Satan's Little Helper might be found by many to be in bad taste, butthen again, the concept of a horror comedy asks for it to somedegree...to some degree. Silly situations and stupid dialogue can beexcused to some degree as well. The thing is, this movie pushed thatdegree a little too far, and in combination with other inexcusablefactors, in the end, it's just not a very good movie. However, for manyof us, a genre like black comedy is worth paying attention to wheneverit's possible.

Absolutely Cult

In Halloween, the student of theater Jenna Whooly (Katheryn Winnick)returns to Bell Island to spend the holiday with her family and herboyfriend Alex Martin (Stephen Graham), who studies in the same classand was also raised in the island. Her young brother Douglas "Dougie"Whooly (Alexander Brickel), who is very attached to Jenna and isfascinated in the video game Satan's Little Helper, becomes jealouswith the presence of Alex. He leaves home wearing his costume ofSatan's little helper seeking Satan on the streets to kill Alex. Dougiemeets a serial-killer that coincidently is wearing a costume of Satanand proposes him to attack Alex. He brings the insane murderer home, and Jenna and her mother Merrill Whooly (Amanda Plummer) believes thatthe masked killer is Alex acting like Satan to please Dougie. Later theboy walks with the criminal along the streets helping him to kill thelocals.I bought the DVD "Satan's Little Helper" with very low expectations andI found an absolutely cult-movie. The morbid story blends slasher-moviewith very dark comedy, and works since it is hilarious mostly becausethe funny performances of the masked Satan. His piece-of-art with thebodies of his victims could be more explored in the story. The naivelittle moron that helps him is annoying and imbecile and KatherynWinnick is extremely gorgeous and seductive wearing her mother'scostume. My vote is eight.Title (Brazil): "O Ajudante de Satã" ("The Satan's Helper")

Satan's Little Helper

Lieberman's newest film is a doozy..a macabre black comedy about adisturbed kid named Dougie(Alexander Brickel)who loves this game hisdad bought him called "Satan's Little Helper." He's so overwhelmed bythe game that he finds a psychopath donning a Satan costume and asks toassist him in his duties(Dougie spots this crazy man propping up a killas if the corpse was Halloween ornamentation). What Dougie doesn't knowis that this guy really is killing people at random and that this isn'ta game. Dougie is jealous of his sister Jenna's(Katheryn Winnick, whois a major hottie)new boyfriend Alex(Stephen Graham)so he asks hismaster to kill him. What Dougie also doesn't know is that he hasinvited danger to his family as he brings the killer home makingintroductions to his sister and mom, Merrill(Amanda Plummer..I wonderedhow Lieberman could get a quality actress for such a type of sillygenre film). The killer underneath the Satan costume outsmarts everycharacter in this film and as he journeys through town no one is safe. From an old lady using a walking stick to a pregnant woman, if you arein the killer's trajectory..look out(even a blind man and baby in acarriage being pushed by it's mother aren't safe)! Operating tonguefirmly in cheek, director Lieberman squeezes every drop of comedy fromthis twisted premise. Despite some disturbing elements as the killerattacks without remorse, Lieberman keeps the film pretty cheesy so thatwe, the viewer, won't take it too seriously. It looks cheap, butthere's a surprising amount of suspense towards the end as Jenna musttry and save those she loves as this psycho sets his sights aimeddirectly towards them.

anxietyresister 2012-04-22 23:52:41

Nice One..

A boy obsessed with a video game called 'Satan's Little Helper' thinkshe has met the real thing one Halloween and wants to become his aide. This involves going around town on a murderous rampage, poisoning thelocal trick or treaters and getting it on with the kid's sister. Notbad for a night's work!Wearing a mask for the entire duration of the film, Ol' Beezlebub neverspeaks but has so much personality with his gestures and mannerisms hedoesn't need to. We never find out the true identity of this mysterykiller, but going by the clues on offer we have a pretty good idea.Could it be the arsonist released from captivity after many years who'sconveniently become a born again Christian? Hmm..Anyway, it doesn't matter who he is, the fun is watching all thedisgusting and depraved things the pair get up to.. because the boythinks it's all a game! This leads to hilarious scenes with peoplebeing stabbed, hung and in one case literally having their guts rippedout.. and the lad just stands there and laughs his head off! This maysound pretty sick, but the gore is totally unconvincing and more likelyto humour than to horror you. The one death that did get to me was thatof an innocent black feline.. mainly because I'm such a big cat lover!Ouch..Among the cast the only name of recognition is Amanda Plummer, who isthe slightly neurotic mother of the boy. She of course was one of thecouple who held up the restaurant at the beginning of Pulp Fiction, andshe does well here playing her usual dotty, fast-talking self. Amongthe rest, the kid is cute without being too annoying and the girlstarring as his teenage sister is not a very good actress, but perfectfor this kind of undemanding role. As I said before though, the realstandout here is our costumed murderer. We could be looking at a newhorror icon here.. I just hope they don't ruin him with endless sequels(Freddy and Jason, anyone?).Finally, in honour of the ending (666) I give this nasty yet strangelysatisfying little flick.. a 6. Ho ho..

One of the best horror-comedies of the decade

Dougie (Alexander Brickel) is obsessed with his new video game 'Satan'sLittle Helper.' He has it with him everywhere: on his hand-held, on hiscomputer, everywhere. On Halloween, Dougie decided to become Satan'sLittle Helper himself by tagging along with a masked murderer who istaking a vicious toll on the neighbourhood. Dougie tries to get 'Satan'to kill the boyfriend, Alex (Stephen Graham) of his ridiculously hotsister, Jenna (Katheryn Winnick). The insane killer is brought home toDougie's and he's treated like a member of the family.Satan's Little Helper, since I first saw it a few years back, has beenone of my favourite horror-comedies of all time. Probably due to thefact that Dougie reminds me of myself as a young'un, I've always felt astrange draw to it. I love the story, the characters, and thelow-budget feel that it constantly maintains. Sure, it feels a bitamateurish even though it's coming from a guy who's been in thebusiness for over thirty years, but oh well. Dougie was surprisinglygood and his sister Jenna is unbelievably hot (I'll get to that later). The writing works, as does the music. Though there's not a whole lot ofgore & violence, it's done believably when it's shown. There is a greatmix of humour & horror, leaning more toward the comedy side of the'horror-comedy' subgenre. I do have a few problems with it. . . themom, though it was supposed to be like this, annoyed the bajeesus outof me. I don't know if it's her character or Amanda Plummer in general, but she gave me a headache. I would've liked to see a bit moreexperimenting with Dougie as the murderer's apprentice, but I'massuming Liberman didn't want to go too far with him. Also, it does runa bit longer than it should've and, to quicken the pace and be moreefficient, a few scenes could've done well to be chopped. And mybiggest problem. . . how much of a tease were they with KatherynWinnick? It was like torture to have her in the 'slutty Renaissancegirl' costume for the majority of the film, be occasionally involved innear-sex situations. . . and never reward us for our efforts! AH! But,I'll look past the blue balls she nearly caused and, instead, rememberthe rest of the film. Overall, it's a great, lighthearted horror-comedythat would make for a fantastic showing on a Halloween evening.Final verdict: 7.5/10.
