Fun for the whole family!

This review is from: Santa's Slay (DVD) "He's making a list... pray you're not on IT!" A very whimsical take on the most beloved fat man in America. The best holiday movie. Ever! Spread that Christmas FEAR!

Good for some laughs. Best viewing with friends and beer.

It turns out there were 2 Immaculate Conceptions: One was Jesus and onewas Santa Claus. One day, Santa loses a bet with an angel and must playnice for 1000 years (this part was told in stop motion animation).Well, his punishment is up and he's here to wreck havoc. Only an oldinventor, his grandson "Nicholas Yuleson", and girlfriend "Mary"(played by Emilie de Ravin) can stop him. This film takes a fun look at the Holidays with the blackest of blackhumor. It opens with Chris Kattan, Rebecca Gayheart, Fran Drescher, andJames Caan getting slaughtered by Santa. There are countless of othercameos strewn throughout the movie. Oh, and did I mention that WWEwrestler Bill Goldberg is playing Santa and doing his own stunts? Andthat Brett Ratner (Rush Hour 1-3, X-Men 3) produced this? There is much fun to be had here such as Santa beating up ChristmasCarolers, kids running from Santa on snow mobiles, and a Jew holding upthe Star of David to Santa (similar to a cross to a Vampire) in hopeshis faith would save him. You will see a candy cane in the eye, aChristmas star in the back, Santa's sleigh getting valet parking, andsome Ho-Ho-Hoes in stripper attire. The production values were very high and it looks as though it was shoton 35mm. They had great props like a Santa's Slay driven by a yak/buffalo (?). The sound varied a bit during dialogue-heavy andaction-heavy scenes, which caused me to raise and then lower the volumea few times. I only have two minor gripes. While there is a high body count, theyskimp on the gore. The film overall is more comedic than scary, soGorehounds will not be as amused.Another thing was girlfriend Mary's personality inconsistencies. (Yes,I pay attention to character development even in horror films). Theyshow her as a strong woman driving a big truck, shooting guns, andputting her boyfriend's hands on her breasts. But once Santa arrives, she can only whine about how scared she is. She even pulls out theStupid Card by stopping dead in her tracks while in the middle of agetaway to talk to her boyfriend about her feelings.Favorite Quote: A few good ones, but my favorite was when Nicholasshines a flashlight in Santa's eyes temporarily blinding him and Santayells, "I'm Santa Claus, not f*cking Dracula!"DVD Extras: Scene Selection, Audio Set Up, Deleted Scenes, Casting,"Taking the Reins" (Steiman's First Film), 2 Easter Eggs (one features6 trailers), and of course Commentary with the Director and Producer. This explained how Goldberg met his wife. She was a stunt double forthe trapeze stripper in pasties whose crotch his face was buried in for4 days. Duh. How else would they have fallen in love?Bottom Line: Good for some laughs, but minimal gores/sex. Best viewingwith friends and beer.Rating: 7/10Molly Celaschi www.HorrorYearbook.com MySpace.com/HorrorYearbook

Hilarious!

This review is from: Santa's Slay (DVD) We rented this movie thinking it would be one of those "B" horror flicks. From the first scene the laughs started and continued throughout the movie! If you are truly looking for a horror movie, then this is not the movie for you. We have recently purchased Santa's Slay and it has now been added to our yearly traditions for the holiday season!

The type of " 80's Horror" movie I've grown to miss

A VERY cheesy movie with a lame plot to be fair. But it is as muchComedy as Horror. The comedy is in the comical and inventive wayspeople are mashed about and the barely contained groans you let outeach time a new "plot" twist is revealed. I recommend this movie foreither Halloween or Christmas parties, with a few friends, a few drinksand maybe a card or board game. Very enjoyable and something you don'tsee a lot of anymore. It contains a lot of B actors getting mashed (theopening scene.. spoiler: has Fran Drescher and Jimmy Fallon gettingbrutally murdered in a scene that makes my inner soul smile), Thestereotypical lecherous preacher is played well by Dave Thomas (GraceUnder fire, Rat Race, etc) and Goldberg as the Anti-Christ VikingHellgod spouting Christmas carols makes me laugh. The scene explaininghis origins was also hilarious and was brilliantly done in the woodenstop motion style of "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer".

Ho ho ho

This review is from: Santa's Slay (DVD) Bill Goldberg is Santa. Goldberg is Jewish and now he is Santa, what an oxy-moron. I should also note that Goldberg hated comedy. He didnt like it in wrestling and hated how WWE portrayed him because they used comedy. A year after leaving WWE, he makes this yuletide log. It says that Brett Ratner directed this film but I cant tell if its the Ratner who made big Hollywood movies or a guy with the same name. I checked The Internet Movie Database but it gave little info about the movie. It starts off by killing some C list celebritys and then ensues a funny moment with a old woman in a deli. The movie has some great moments and is a very short movie. I enjoyed it and will probably watch it every Christmas till I die. Highly entertaining for fans you love crappy horror movies.

Greatest "Evil Santa" movie ever

It's not that kind of slayer movie with a psycho dressed in a Santacostume, but a fantasy horror comedy with the "real" Santa Claus who isactually a demon that lost a bet with an Angel in ancient times.Because he lost the bet, he must be a good guy and give presents tokids for Christmas, but after 1000 years he has the right to get backto his evil habits and now he suddenly becomes a slayer Santa. The movie is really interesting and entertaining. Even if there are alot of sadistic killings, they are not scary and would never bedangerous to kids. So let them watch this movie without restrictions.I give it a 10 out of 10 for the very well done black humor.

Wickedly funny!!

Santa may be real, but you won't want to put baby Junior on his lap! Infact, if you see Santa Claus, you'd better start running, because inthis hilarious black comedy, Santa's bringing some Christmas mayhem.Apparently, jolly old Saint Nick (Bill Goldberg) was never a nice guy;he was just forced to be after losing a curling bet with an angel. Now,the bet's over, and Santa's all too happy to show his true colors. This movie is funny. It's mean-spirited, to be sure, but it's alsocompletely over-the-top, and has a number of laugh aloud scenes andone-liners. Although it's not as funny or complete as "ChristmasVacation," it's still a good pick for those who are sick and tired ofthe saccharine-drenched Christmas movies. The acting is solid. WWE superstar Bill Goldberg is actually very goodin the title role. He can make a nasty face under all that facial hair, and his delivery on the one-liners is perfect. The late Robert Culp isalso quite successful; it's a clichéd role (but then it's supposed tobe), but Culp breathes life into the character. Emilie de Ravin is okayas Mac, the girlfriend of Nicholas, the "hero" of the film, but she'snot on the same level as Goldberg and Culp. Unfortunately, even thatwould be giving her co-star, Douglas Smith, too much credit. Smith isawful as Nicholas. He can't act, and his character is an incompetentmoron. The first scene features cameos from Fran Dresher, Chris Kattan,Rebecca Gayheart and James Caan, but none of them are around longenough to really make an impression.David Steiman has a lot of fun with this idea. There are a number ofhilarious one-liners, and some of the twisted takes on Christmastraditions are devilishly clever. But I wanted more. The film seemslike a bare bones telling of the story, and I'm sure that a lot of thathad to do with the minuscule budget. There are also a few dead spots inthe film, and sometimes the sound quality isn't very good.Overall, this is a really funny movie, and a solid companion to"Christmas Vacation." Provided of course, you have a really twistedsense of humor.

Spreading some Yule Tide Fear...

This review is from: Santa's Slay (DVD) Goldberg-Soldberg Bill you are the Greatest Show on Earth!!! I loved this movie. It had a strange concept of Santa Claus that I had never thought of.It does make a lot of sense about good and bad in everything.I would give this a 10 !!!

Best Movie Ever!!!!!

Santa's slay is the ultimate gorefest. There is death by turkey leg, by fire, and someone gets drowned in eggnog. People will be scared of christmas after watching this. That being said, I think it is the best movie ever. The acting was just amazing. The first scene where santa comes down the chimney, smashes his way into the room and kills everyone is awesome. I hope there is a sequal!!!!!

TheBrokenHearted 2012-04-26 21:49:36

Quite good, if you like Goldberg

I found Santa's Slay in the budget priced DVD-bin, right where itshould be. It's an entertaining movie with a few good laughs and it'scheap. What more can you possibly want? Don't expect too much from theleading role though, you'll get irritated with him sooner than you'lllaugh with him. All the fun you get from this film, is from the sceneswith Goldberg. It's almost as if this movie was made for him. He'squite believable as the Clause from Hell and does a good job. All thedeaths are quite hilarious and his one liners are quite funny too. Keepan eye out for some guest appearances (James Caan, Fran Drescher,...)and you'll get even more laughs out of this flick. It can't even beginto stand up to other various holiday movies like Miracle On 34thStreet, Santa Clause, Home Alone or even Die Hard, to name somethingcompletely different, but if you don't know what to watch, and you'rein for a good time, take this one off your shelve and leave the rest.Goldberg will 'scare the Dickens out of 'ya', as he so vigorously putsit :-)

Better than it has any right to be

I'm not a huge fan of slasher films. There are some good ones, sure, but for the most part, they are predictable, unremarkable, and often just plain stupid. Which is why Santa's Slay was such a pleasant surprise. The idea: Santa's really evil and has only been good because of a bet he lost with an angel. Now, the wager is over, and he gets to be bad again. The film works because it pretty much runs with this concept without apology. Also, it's got a lot of energy. Santa's Slay is rarely boring. The opening is the best part. We get to see a list of recognizable actors sitting down to dinner. Then Santa comes in and kills them all. It's graphic enough to deter sensitive viewers, but nothing too gruesome. From there, the movie barrels along to a satisfying conclusion. My only complaint about Santa's Slay is that the last half is just not as good as the first. Still, it's an enjoyable ride. Plus, it's nice to see a film that doesn't mind pandering with a superfluous strip bar scene filled with topless babes. For another great killer holiday film, I recommend "Jack Frost" and "Jack Frost 2" about a psychotic snowman. Like Santa's Slay, it's equal parts silly and gruesome, but somehow the combination works.

Very Bad Santa

If you thought Billy Bob-Thorton was Bad Santa.. you thought wrong!! My guess is that this is a horror/comedy but I would say its more comedy than horror.. there are more tears of laughter than drops of blood. Frankly there is very little blood and no gore. So if you are in it for blood and guts dont bother. I honestly didnt know what to expect and, if you ask me the violence alone wasnt enough to make an R rating.. its the shocking laugauge (which I thought was funny) and the female nudity. Personally I think its funny to listen to senior citizens use the f-word. The whole storyline is ludicrous but, what do you expect with this kinda idea? I think its meant to be exactly what it is ..absurd fun!!

Goldberg's Masterpiece!!

I thought Goldberg was the baddest wrestler around when he was with WCW, even topping Steve Austin and Hulk Hogan. I saw Goldberg in Universal Soldier and was impressed by his acting. Here, we get to see the Hulk in a starring role...and he really scared me!I'm used to seeing Goldberg toss guys around, but this suit on him really threw me off and I wasn't sure who I was watching. I kept saying its Santa, but Santa was just really ugly. He looked more like a biker who dresses up as Santa for the neighborhood kids during the summer. To be honest with you, after the opening credits I fast-forwarded through most of this movie. I think I was just tired and had a headache, but I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. Some of the kills were very creative, and the reason I gave this more than 1 star. But I couldn't bear to watch the rest of it at normal speed. Sure I didn't have a clue what the people were saying, but in a movie like this you don't have to. Just look at the cover and you know what you're getting yourself into.

Santa is out to kill

possibly the greatest movie of all time, up there with troll 2, i mean, nudity, action, Santa killing with bombs, doesn't get much better! thesleigh ride chase scene through a hick town is my personal favoritehigh light, i cannot wait for a sequel and a Grammy and Oscarnomination god bless America seriously yup, i really love how SantaClaus has a demonic voice, this movie will be sure to spread the fearthat should be associated with Christmas to the little kids of theworld, however, i do suggest some discretion because once you see thismovie, you will never be the same, i watch it like 10 times a day, andnow i am done with my review, thank you!

Criticman12 2012-04-19 22:16:48

This movie is both scary and funny. In a good way.

"Santa's Slay", is a horror/comedy where Santa Claus is Satan's son andhe kill's innocent people. Now it's up to two teenagers to stop him. This is one of those dumb but funny movies. It's really funny mostlybecause Bill Goldberg did a good and funny job as Santa Claus. Thecharacter, Grandpa, was also funny because we see him as an angeltrying to defeat Santa at the end of the movie. The only problem's I have is that the two protagonists in the moviearen't that great and I know it's funny, but it can be pretty dumb attime's. But not like, "Meet the Spartans" or "Disaster Movie".Overall, if you're looking for a horror movie that is funny, this isfor you. If you're looking for a horror movie that take's it's selfseriously, then this movie is not for you.

You better watch out, you better run fast!

Here comes Santa Clause, Here comes Santa Clause - RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!This is one of the most awsome holiday movies since "Nightmare Before Christmas"! While being a low budget flick it keeps you laughing and leaves you wanting more - SEQUAL! SEQUAL! Santa Slay II!!This movie brings new light the age old story that Santa and Satan are indeed both one in the same...don't belive me? Well lets just examine the facts for a moment:1) Both consider "red" as their favorite color.2) Both choose to work at night.3) Both have children as a target audience.4) Both have that "something for nothing" idea. (gifts, power, etc)5) Both live in secluded areas.6) Both have little minions that do all the work.7) Both know when you are sleeping/awake and good/bad.8) Both use fire (or a place thereof) as a chosen entry/communication point.I think the evidence speaks for itself but I recomend you watch "Santa Slay" yourself and then YOU decide!!
