It was great. I think the director mixed with Chinese martial arts andAmerican comics well. The story is very simple. It is about savingChinese embassy's daughter. Lee, who was a bodyguard of the girl, cameto U.S.A. and met detective Carter. In this movie, Jackie Chan andChris Tucker's combination was really fun. They shared their culturesand got some troubles because of cultures - Lee fought many blackpeople because he told one guy as 'sup, my meca(What's that meanexactly, by the way?)'. Nice, he totally showed what Chinese martialarts is. He used many times 'fight of Tae-guk'. It is contrast to BruceLee used, but his fighting shows more impactive scenes than Bruce did.Tucker showed perfect opposite side of Jackie Chan. He is alwaysproblems for all, but he defeats many enemies with Lee and his fun. Iwas surprised that Jackie Chan didn't use the stunt man. He and Tuckermake people not to lose their views all the times. This movie is justfor fun. You don't have to think about its reality, but just relax andhave fun.
First I would like to say, I did see the movie on the opening weekend. Asstated before the chemistry between Tucker and Chan was great. Overall thisis one of the best movies I have ever seen, and I don't have any complaintsabout the movie. I do feel like this is a family movie, my 8 and 6 year oldsons enjoyed it very much. I think that Chris Tucker should be given morecredit for his outstanding performance. One without the other (Tucker &Chan) the movie would not have been as succesful as it presentlyis.
im a big fan of jackie chan(rumble in the bronx) and even a bigger fan of chris tucker(money talks, friday)and together they make for a good movie.
"Rush Hour" is an entertaining action-comedy, Chris Tucker and Jackie Chanmake a good team. This film is more a comedy than an action movie but themovie does have it's action scenes. This is an entertaining movie that Ireccomend, It bears similarity to the "Lethal Weapon" movies but it is morelike "Beverly Hills Cop". It's a funny movie.
The genuine chemistry between Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker is the only thing that elevates a rather cliched and standard action movie.
The tagline of "Rush Hour" was "The fastest hands in the East meets thebiggest mouth in the West". And it was true. Jackie Chan, the wizard ofmartial arts with some of the greatest moves in martial arts history alwayswas a great fighter in bad movies. He always was a little short of having areally good movie. Chris Tucker on the other hand hasn't had the bestcareer. From his debut in House Party 3 in 1994 up to Money Talks in 1997his career hasn't been all that great. Then when brought together in RushHour...they suddenly become a amazing duo! First of all Tucker is amazinglyfunny with his odd high voice, slick comebacks and his oddball dancing. Asfor Chan he puts the Action in this movie with his slick fighting, his hotshot stunts and Chan even throws some comedy out there such as "We can chillin my crib. I will show you my hood" which is so funny in his accent. Chanand Tucker become great friends and stick togheter to try to recapture adaughter of a rich Chinese man. Also the movie features a cameo from thestar of the musical Footloose, Chris Penn. From Tucker's jokes, dancing andsurprisingly good action moves to Chan's lighting quick moves and stunts,Rush Hour is one the of the funniest movies in 1998 and for sure will boostChris Tucker's career to better roles. As many critics said "Rush to RushHour!"
I really love this movie. I liked all the action and thrills with JackieChan and his moves. Chris Tucker was the big mouth of all, also aheadache.
With Chan's humor and flexible Fung Fu moments, this movie has a character of its own.
Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker are a great pair in this great movie. The comedy in this movie is great and you must see it.
This is the funniest movie I have ever seen! Chris Tucker does a great jobwith his racial slur lines. He manages to make them funny, yet not offendanybody. Jackie Chan sounds a little awkward with his English, but that'sokay. There could have been a little more martial arts fighting in themovie, but the comedy makes up for it. I give it a 10
"Rush Hour" is your typical Hollywood style cop-buddy flick, which recyclesone of the oldest plot devices in the book: The Chinese Consulate's daughter has been kidnapped, and it's up to a lippy LA cop and a Kung Fu Hong Kong detective to rescue the kid before it's toolate.Obviously the writers weren't taking their work too seriously--I was halfexpecting someone to retire in three days! And why is it that every British character in an Hollywoodfilm (9 times out of 10) mutates into the villain? Despite these nits "Rush Hour" is a ratherenjoyable flick which combines two very charismatic and talented actors in the best cop-buddy dual since "48Hours" and "Lethal Weapon". Chan and Tucker's off and on banter is humorous and never gets trite. Inaddition, the fight scenes are well timed and choreographed. All in all one of the best cop-buddy filmsaround these days!Rating: 8
One of the best action comdey moives of all time. It was great with Jackie Chan and 7-11 Chris Tucker. Jackie chan with his karate moves and Chris Tucker with his mouth!
This movie was great. I really loved it. Chris Tucker is such a hilariousactor. I was laughing the entire time. He played his character great (thedancing, the way he spoke, and the idle sarcasm and humor). As for Jackie Chan, in this movie it actually looked like he was talking. Ina lot of movies it looks like someone is dubbing in for him and that he isactually not even speaking English. However, there was nothing thatspectacular about his acting. The stereo-types in the movie, were written and acted in such away thatnothing seemed offensive but instead were funny. All in all I think the bestpart of the film was the comedy and Chris Tucker. Two ThumbsUp!
I recently saw this movie, and I was surprised at how good it was despitesome of the *obnoxious* loudmouth phrases by Chris Tucker. I think he got alittle too mouthy at some scenes. But other than that the movie is prettygood. The plot is after consul Han Solon's daughter is kidnapped, a close friendof Han's, Detective Inspector Lee(Jackie Chan) is sent in to help becauseHan does not fully rely on the work of the FBI alone. So an LAPD officerJames Carter(Chris Tucker) is sent in to help keep Lee out of trouble. Ithad some very good lines passed between the actors, and you could tell theywere having a fun time together acting. Some of the martial arts/karate thatChan does in the film is impressive, just like in all his films, and Tuckerdoes a good job playing the loud mouth(even if he did get out of handsometimes). I'm going to definately see the sequel, Rush Hour 2. I wouldgive this film 3/5 stars. It's a good movie to just rent out, or watch on tvsome night.
A Chinese Diplomat's ten year old daughter is kidnapped. The FBI doesn'twant visiting Chinese cop (Jackie Chan) to be involved in the investigation. They employ an LAPD screw up,(Chris Tucker),to keep the visitor away fromthe case. Not only do the mismatched crime fighters get involved, but theyactually rescue the girl and expose an art theft ring.Chan and Tucker are funny and entertaining together. The funny quips andbanter is blended with the action scenes to make for a fast moving film.Chan's stunts are amazing. Fun to watch.
I liked this movie. It was a good viewing experience, with a blend ofaction, comedy and story that we have come to expect fromChan. Its not an Oscar winning piece on the morality of man or some other,hoity-toity load of garbage that Hollywood usually inserts into a gorefestor 'art' movie. Its nice and simple - girl kidnapped, must berescued.Jackie Chan is primarily an entertainer. His consummate skills in martialarts are evident throughout the film, but unlike his early movies relies onmore than just his physical prowess (which has slipped only slightly sincehis youth).Chris Tucker is funny, but slightly annoying as the black cop trying to fitinto Eddie Murphy's "Beverly Hills Cop" skin. I found his performanceirritating at the start of the film, but managed to ease myself into it,with his wise-cracking and typical afro-american charisma. However I wouldwarn directors off continuing this style of typecasting for thesecharacters, it is becoming a little tedious.I gave it 8 out of 10, for sheer stunt, kick and actionwork.
I watched this film more than 10 times and I really enjoy the action & fun of the two heros,Tucker and Chan.I think that all the events & action in the film are in the top. When I saw it in the first time ,I search for other films for tucker to see.He has really a great talent more than any of Hollywood heros.
Tucker and Chan make such an excellent team! It was sooo hilarious! I lovedMoney Talks, but I thought this one was better because it had much more of aplot and Chan was a much better co-star than Charlie Scheen. The wholetheatre couldnt stop laughing and when they weren't laughing they cheeredJackie Chan on. When the movie ended everyone clapped for like 3 minutesand pretty loudly too! Thats how good it was! I definitely recommend it ifyou like comedy! 9 of 10.
This film is nothing new and not really very good. Jackie Chan has mademovies in America before and this one probably comes closest to his HongKong films in the action sequences. Even though Chan's movies don't usuallyhave a plot, this film could have been a little better thought out. ChrisTucker is very funny in the film, but it is a stretch of the imagination tobelieve he is a cop of any kind. This is just another formula buddy picture, although Tucker's performance was entertaining. Watch Chan's Hong Kong filmsfor real entertainment.
When I decided to watch this on TBS a month or so ago, I did so because Ihad only recently been introduced to martial arts by seeing and lovingCrouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I knew this film had one of the best actionstars from Hong Kong and I knew nothing about Chris Tucker. Imagine mysurprise to find such a funny, fast talking, jumping, madcap film. Thesetwo guys are just one of the best teams to come along in a while. The set up of the little girl being kidnapped and also being a specialfriend of the cop Jackie plays is cute. She punches and kicks him when hedoesn't do as she wants but it's all because she likes him. So Jackie hasto find and rescue her. His problem turns out to be his assigned partner(Chris) and the kidnappers. They finally work it out and the big chase andfight at the end is spectacular. Especially the slide down the long curtainin the hotel atrium. That had me truly amazed. As an older woman, I have to say I loved the film and this duo.
