When supplies became paltry, John White, as governor of the colony at Roanoke Island, was elected to return to England. In doing so he left his pregnant daughter, Eleanor, behind to govern the colony. Upon his homecoming, White found his return to Roanoke to be delayed by war. Desperate and with few options he turned to an enemy, Simon Fernandez, for help. After a time of preparation and turmoil, the unauthorized expedition left for the colony. As her father tries to return, Eleanor struggles to keep the fledgling colony afloat. With food and supplies depleted, dissent begins to grow. Each day brings a longing for Whites return and fears of the consequences should he fail. What greets John White on his arrival has become one of the greatest mysteries of American History.

The Lost Colony was a surprisingly good movie. I expected arun-of-the-mill gory horror-fest. The plot was crisp and clean. Thestory did not bog down but did not feel rushed. Although the story states it is based on real events; the onlyhistorical facts are the disappearance of the colony and the names ofthe settlers. The story gives a nice twist to the mystery, though. The use of actual locations for most of the film added a better senseof reality than the always dark studio lot production of the manymovies. The special effects were basic but not cheesy. Anyone who likes traditional horror should enjoy this film. If you arelooking for monsters stalking teens and gore you may be disappointed. This is by no means a fantastic movie but it is a nice little gem.
