So BAD it's a MASTERPIECE

This is an all-time classic B-movie that's so incredibly stupid that it transcends stupidity and attains cinematic greatness. I actually think this movie had to have been written with this goal in mind. I'm not sure (even in Hollywood) that anyone could have written this nonsense and expected an audience to watch it with a straight face. Watch the movie with lots of friends, have several cocktails, and make fun of the endless classic scenes involving monster trucks driving through car showrooms, bar fights where they "sweep up the eyeballs after closing", a bouncer with a master's in philosophy who spouts such pearls of wisdom like "Pain don't hurt" and carries around his own medical files to save time in ER. Brilliant stupidity!

I Thought You Be BIGGER!!!

So happy this movie is getting a Special Edition. I know most of you are probably saying your crazy you actually love this movie? I do love this movie, I mean let alone being a girl and Patrick Swayze is the star of it looking hot! This movie is simply great! He kicks ass as the head bouncer Dalton. Sam Elliot is awesome as his best friend Wade Garrett and Kelly Lynch is so sexy in this. That I know you guys will agree with. The music is great too! The Jeff Healey Band did an awesome job on the soundtrack. As did Patrick with his songs especially with "Raising Heaven (In Hell Tonight)". Now you guys really hate me, huh? Oh well, I love everything about this movie. Give it a try for whoever hasn't seen it.

Please come clean up my local bar!

Who can resist a movie with action, one-liners, and most of all Sam Elliott and Patrick Swayze?I don't know a person that has seen it and hated it, but some did dislike certain things about it. You have to appreciate the 80's action to appreciate the movie, which I do.And who can resist the loveable character Red? Who didn't cheer and jump around like you're playing nintendo in the last fight scene. Well I did:)

a lacklustre movie

"Road House" is an hackneyed action movie mainly destined to increase thestanding of Patrick Swayze, at that time on height of his success thanks tothe movie "Dirty Dancing". It's also a film devoid of interest: aconventional main character, an unoriginal story and several threadbaretopics. To forget without remorse.

Swayze keeps this at bay

chock full of action which keeps this movie at bay..also the performance by Swayze as well..the scene where he fights that dude in the jean jacket...good scene...Kelly Lynch is also great..but it hits the dirt road somewhere in the middle..but all in all its a good Swayze movie..let's here it for the blind guy and his band in the cage...what a great band

classic 80's action

In an era full of buddy action flicks like lethal weapon and 48hrs, whenallhollywood wanted was to keep people entertained, they got it right withthisone. The story line seems a mixture of cocktail and commando, with womensfavorite Patrick Swayze playing the 'best in the buisness'a cooler.BAsically it has all the main features of the 80's flicks, he kicks someass, gets the girl and saves the day. But they got a great cast alsoincluding sam elliott(as Swayze's mentour, its stylish, cool and full ofgreat fighting, rent it if you havent already done so. A great saturdaynight film 7-10

Bad Movie Don't Watch It

This Has about 60 swear words beggining with F nudety and is nothing like martial arts this film should not be for sale. Or to be shown on T.v (I watched It yesterday)

Bad movie, but entertaining

Patrick Swayze plays a maverick martial arts expert with an NYU philosophy degree who cleans up a small-town bar full of rednecks. This is another so-bad-it's-good movie. There are some enjoyable fight scenes that keep the viewer interested, but some funny dialogue ("My way or the highway") and brain dead script put this on a lower level than other action movies.

Very good

Saw this movie with my dad, its very good. Patrick Swayze is very good in this. It has a lot of good fight scenes and a good plot.

badgerboy97 2012-05-03 12:28:04

Good for Swayze

Still coasting on the wave of success from his role in Dirty Dancingand his supposed good looks, Patrick Swayze is still in his prime inthis one. Like a lot of 80's action movies, it's a bit cheesy but it'sstill pretty fun to watch. It's much better than the likes of "Next ofKin" but not quite up to par with Swayze's performance in"Ghost"...which is what he turned into after the release of that movie,a ghost. This movie has a bit of everything from action/fighting scenes totragedy to romance. The special effects aren't too horrible for itstime and the acting is for the most part good. I like Sam Elliot and Ienjoyed his role in this movie. The plot is a bit thin, but at leastthere is one and it's easy to follow. This is good for a rental on a night when you don't want to think, butstill be entertained. Nothing spectacular - just a simple, decentmovie.

Testosterone Extravaganza!!!!! Blu-ray looks and sounds great!

This review is from: Road House (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging) (Blu-ray) "Road House" is one of those movies that has an almost cult-like following. Everyone I know who loves this movie, including me, can watch it over and over and over. All the leads are alpha males or females in their own way. Dalton (Patrick Swayze) is quiet but explosive. Brad Wesley (Ben Gazzara) is snakey and manipulative. Wade Garrett (Sam Elliott) is life wise and supremely confident. Denise (Julie Michaels) is nasty and she knows it. Doc (Kelly Lynch) is sexy, excessively tanned, and smarter than everyone. And finally the town's business owners are calculating and determined. Thankfully they all converge in the town of Jasper, home of the Double Duece Road House, for violence, sex, and some fun music. What's not to love about this movie that gets cheesy'er and more enduring with each passing year? The Blu-ray version really adds SNAP to the flick with sharp images, great colors, and a room-filling DTS soundtrack. Yeah, the hairstyles and clothes are almost laughable, but for those of us who were clubbing (or not too far removed) in 1989 the "Road House" is practically a trip down memory lane. Hey, for $8.99 new for the Blu-ray/DVD combo, how can you go wrong? If is isn't that price when you read this review, be patient, it will be again.

Swayze's Best

Things to do today:1. Wake up2. Get some beers and chips3. Get power to the trailer turned back on4. Rent "Road House"!If you're like me, you love films like this from start to finish. Thefightscenes were choreographed brilliantly, the action was hot, and the boringscenes where people talked were kept to a minimum. Swayze's dialogue isshort and sweet: "Right boot," and "Pain don't hurt" are perfect examplesof the fact that in this movie, they decided to just let the fists do thetalking.Swayze plays a schoolteacher (Dalton) who moves out to the country toescapethe violent inner-city where the kids in his class would repeatedlyridiculehim and beat him up. He decides to become a kickboxer in order to facehisfears, and after being trained by a great master in discipline and thespiritual arts, decides to go get in a bunch of bar fights.Sam Elliot makes a surprise cameo as Conagher, a lost gunfighter who stopsin and decides to punch some people in their faces along side of Dalton.Ablond woman is there, too; but I'm not sure if she was supposed to beDalton's woman or his doctor (the movie never clarifies this). I don'tbelieve she is ever punched in her face, but I am not positive about this. All in all, this was an excellent film."It's my way, or the highway," says Dalton, at one point. Well, as far asI'm concerned, it's your way! I'm sticking by Dalton, because he is onetough mamma-jamma!

Road House...such a great film

This is one of the best films ever made. A must buy for any man. Patrick Sawyze is astounding as the bouncer of the Double Deuce. An easy five stars and two thumbs up.

mentalcritic 2012-04-29 01:22:17

They called it Road House...

because the MPAA would have come down on them like a ton of bricks ifthey were truthful and called it @!$% House (just keeping big daddyIMDb happy there). All kidding aside, Road House is an attempt tomodernise Western and Samurai themes, which leaves reality at the door. The plot focuses upon a bar in a town that appears to have a hospital,an auto dealership, a general store, and maybe a couple of houses.Apparently, a villain is skimming money out of these businesses. Idon't know whether a gold mine was found in the town or not, but itwould explain how a town so small that there isn't even a pharmacywould net such profits for a standover man.Patrick Swayze was an up-and-coming star, having just come out of DirtyDancing, and I am certain he fired his agent after getting this as afollow-up. His character has a doctorate in philosophy, but works as abouncer (this is called putting your degree to good use). He is hiredby a bar owner who is literally at his wits' end. His business isfailing because his clientele consists of forty-year-old adolescents, felons, power-drinkers, and trustees of modern chemistry, as Swayzeputs it.Part of the blame for this lies in the people Frank, the owner, hiredpreviously to help combat the problem. Many of them are little morethan forty-year-old adolescents themselves. Right off the bat, Swayzefires several of them simply because they aren't disciplined enough forthe trade. One would think that, this being the case, a man withambitions to turn this sawdust-on-the-floor drunken barndance mill intosomething respectable would not have hired them in the first place.Anyway, as I previously alluded, Frank's big ambition is to glitz theplace up and turn it into something a civilised man, say a brainsurgeon, wouldn't be afraid or ashamed to take his family to. Theproblem, at least when you take into account the miniscule apparentscale of the surrounding town, is that in a scale-based economy, Frankshould really be grateful for any business he gets. Swayze sets aboutrestoring order to the locality by beating the crap out of as manythugs as he can. However, for a guy with the martial skill suggested by this film,Swayze finds himself getting injured quite a lot. One of the cardinalrules of a bar fight that he breaks very early in the film is to neverturn your back to your opponent. Maybe the profession has changed a lotin fifteen years, but these days, the equivalent of a black belt in atleast one martial art is supposed to be a prerequisite for the job. Most of the bouncers in this film fight more like Sid Vicious than theydo Bruce Lee.Roger Ebert hits the nail on the head when he states that the housesDalton and Walsh live in seem to be the only two in the entire town, and everything that happens in one appears to be staged for the benefitof the other. How any business, leave alone one as secondary as a bar,can survive in such a place is really beyond me. He also hits the nailright on the head when he says that Road House exists right on thatinvisible line that divides a good-bad film from a merely bad one. Inits favour, however, is the fact that the director realized what aturkey he was making, and increased the violence quotient as much as hecould in order to provide something for the viewer to be entertainedby.I gave Road House a five out of ten. Normally, it would be a one out often, but it just has a certain kind of charm that outshines its idiocy. It makes perfect fodder for a Bad Film Night™, or a drinking game. However, when you compare it to what pass for action films these days,at least it doesn't take itself so seriously.

entertaining

This movie rocks. It's so much fun to watch. Even though it's so stupidanddoesn't make much sense it doesnt' matter cause it's still entertaining.Theaction is pretty cool in the movie and is set up really well. I would haveliked more information into Patrick Swayze's character in the movie butthismovie is so one-dimensional that it wouldn't even matter. It would justprovide the audience more information about each characther which won'tevenmatter. Anyway I still loved this movie and thought it was a classic. GoseeIt

The greatest

When can a movie be the greatest and still get one star? When it's the greatest drive-in movie ever made. People sometimes call entertainingly bad movies car wrecks. Well, this isn't a car wreck; it's more like a monster truck rally. It's doing exactly what it's supposed to do, but you can't believe how serious it is. And as for the viewer who called it "perhaps the most sophisticated action film ever made," I can only quote our psuedo-existential hero, who says, "Opinions vary."

2012-04-24 23:28:42

I have been waiting years for this....

This movie is genius. It has one of the most brilliant scripts ever, and is acted so seriously that one cannot help but go along for the ride, regardless of how believable. The one-liners are paramount.Cannes should have paid more attention.

Road House

This review is from: Road House (DVD) I was so glad that I could eventually purchase this item because I could not find this DVDin Singapore. I was also surprised that the delivery took only about a week. Would most certainly browse through Amazon for amazing DVDs.By the way, do you have the DVD for The Singing Nun? It stars Debbie Reynold. Saw this picture many many years ago.Joseph

Waiting for the DVD

This movie really got hold of me. Action, and Sam Elliot, great character. But what really keeps me wanting the DVD is the BAND! Jeff Healey and his guys are what keeps this thing moving. Unorthodox style, but the notes are THERE. If you like R&B, kickin'tail fuzz and Canadians sounding like Southern rockers, you will never regret this show.Come on, studio. Time to get this one on disc.

What, no commentary from Mike Nelson?

Too bad. If ever a bad movie needed special features, it's this one. Otherwise, It'll be good to watch this movie in a digital format. BEST BAD MOVIE EVER!
