We have taken some photos of "Resident Evil: Afterlife". They represent actual movie quality.
Wake me up is it over. Can I get my 2 hrs of life back. This movie is bad...... ZZZZZZZZ ZZZZ ZZZZZ ZZZZZ ZZZZZ zZZZZZ ZZZZZ ZZZZ ZZZZZ ZZZZ ZZZZZ ZZZZ ZZZZZ ZZZZZ ZZZZ ZZZZZ ZZZZZ
The 1 movie was good, the second was great. After that it all went down hill.I was really hoping that this last RE movie would be better than the third RE but it was even worse.Jesus, the producer have in their hands a very successful franchise and don't even bother to make a decent movie!? What up with that?We are all seeing good movies being produced based on comic book heroes so it can be made. Truth is, I think the producers of RE know that fans of the game are probably going to watch it anyway so they just don't care much if the movie has a good plot or if it's good at all.
This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife (DVD) After seeing the first three RE movies and with nothing really else to do I figured why not and bought my ticket, and while the effects and overall movie were entertaining at the end it's pretty much what we've seen with the other three released movies pretty much already. The one thing I appreciate was the new actor to play the character of Wesker as far as I'm concerned he did a very good job and his role far better than the previous actor from Resident Evil Extinction did. The story plot is of course pretty simplistic and expected but again I like I'm sure many others expected this as well so we really can't complain about this either and one little spoiler expect a cameo return of another character from the RE games/movies to make an appearance in this movie as well. I did see the movie in 3D but I would say it was 50/50 in the feeling that it made a big difference in watching the movie so in that part we'll have to leave it up to the moviegoer. So if you're looking for your fill of zombies and hard-core female fighters with an attitude here's a pretty decent movie to check out on your free time.
Eight years after the first entry into the Resident Evil film franchise, the series is still a gamer favorite as it goes into its fourth chapter, "Resident Evil: Afterlife". For horror franchises, once you pass the second or third installment, most of them begin to falter in some capacity, so how long before this critic-proof, zombie series outstays its welcome with moviegoers?"Resident Evil: Afterlife" is set approximately four years after the initial outbreak upon Raccoon City. Alice (Milla Jovovich) is continuing her crusade to destroy the malevolent Umbrella Corporation. At the same time she is making her way northward to one day join Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and her band of survivors that headed to a supposed infection-free zone somewhere in Alaska. However, Alice quickly discovers that the safe zone was nothing more than another elaborate ploy by Umbrella. With time and patience running thin, Alice luckily finds and enlists the aid of Claire, her estranged brother Chris (Wentworth Miller), and a few others in one last-ditch effort to save humanity from Umbrella and the undead nightmare that has plagued the world.Continuing his writing duties, and returning to the director's chair for the first time since the original film, Paul W.S. Anderson may be running out of steam with this series. There are several indicators that lead me to this conclusion. For starters, several elements within the movie are unapologetically borrowed from other successful films. Granted, this series has taken from many a movie or event along the way, but none so blatant and borderline lazy as those found in this film. The most obvious sign of laziness lies with the film's primary villain (not the zombies as one may think), but a new genetically enhanced individual controlled by Umbrella. This character is so unoriginal that he appears to have been plucked directly from the mold of the Agents used for "The Matrix". From his speech pattern, movements, fighting style, and attire (right down to the sunglasses), everything about the character screams "Rip-off!" I know movies borrow from previous releases all the time, it's impossible not to; however, when it reaches a point that plays more like plagiarism rather than homage, then it's downright shameful. Also, the energy and excitement that used to permeate this series seems to have been erased from existence, much like most of humanity. The franchise first began showing signs of a much slower, somewhat meandering pace with the previous installment. It appears that Paul W.S. Anderson was unable to shake this potential problem, and with this newest chapter we are given a film that seems to be just going through the motions with very little momentum propelling it onward. Then there is the issue with the zombies themselves. Because this is a zombie series, it doesn't take too long for the proceedings to become stale. After all, there are only so many ways one can kill a zombie. Not to mention, the majority of the world is infected. Meaning, a way out for humanity seems more and more implausible with each passing entry. So, my question is this, "When is enough "Enough!"? Maybe we've already reached that point with the previous film and this one is merely another attempt at delaying the inevitable? Based on the story issues I addressed here and others potentially on the horizon, if this series' issues are not rectified, I would say that it has gone on long enough. I figure it's maybe one more movie away from becoming just another horror franchise past its prime that doesn't know when to quit.An area that up to now hadn't grown quite as stale, but was definitely showing signs of wear, is the visual effects work. The first film suffered a little from moments of sub-par CGI, but the previous two installments made definite improvements in this area, despite the continually lacking financial support from the studio. Yet with this entry the visuals seemed to take a step back as some shoddy CGI work was employed. Some of the visuals were mediocre to the point of being as pathetic in some instances as they were in the original film. Now, there are two possible causes for this waning visuals issue, and both may be correct, but I leave that for you to decide. First, Paul W.S. Anderson wrote and directed the first film and this film, and both suffered from lacking visual effects quality. Whereas, he only served as writer for the other two installments and their visuals were noticeably improved.Second, Paul W.S. Anderson filmed this entry using 3D cameras (which undoubtedly came with a heftier price tag) and was forced to spend more time and effort staging shots accordingly. Of course, while I'm sure the camera technology added a bigger price tag to whatever was allotted for cameras on this film, the time spent crafting scenes could have been far less involved if Anderson had chosen to not be annoying with the use of 3D.What I'm referring to is this; he went with the "throw things at the viewer's head" approach that crappy 3D movies in the 80's employed. If he had simply done what James Cameron had done with "Avatar" by making the 3D non-obtrusive, then perhaps more of the budget could have gone towards CGI effects. Plus, the use of 3D will magnify flaws in a movie's CGI (if there are any to be found), so when your budget is insufficient for your effects from the get-go, using 3D seems to be a poor decision at that point.By now you have no doubt noticed that the series as a whole is wearing down, and keeping that theme going is the film's cast. While the performances were decent, there was really nothing new or fresh in this department, and in particular, the two female leads are looking a bit bored with themselves.Series star Milla Jovovich has been with the franchise since the beginning and has claimed in interviews that she knows Alice inside and out (somewhat paraphrased). Having such a familiarity with a character isn't necessarily a bad thing as it can help keep a performance on track and natural. However, in this instance, I believe that due to Alice being Milla's comfort zone as a character, she is no longer finding any challenge in the role. Therefore, she comes off as uninterested in the character, despite her comments to the contrary, and the performance suffers in the process. In the other lead role is actress Ali Larter, who joined the franchise in the previous installment and injected new life and eye candy into the proceedings. Yet, just like Milla her performance is beginning to run thin. This is most likely due to the lack of significant character development for her character Claire since the last movie. Ali has proven in previous works that she is a capable actress, but even the most qualified of actor or actress needs a role that will continue to develop and interest them. Otherwise you wind up with the uninspired performances we found here.Several actors and actresses joined the cast this time around, but the most notable newcomer to the series, at least in name, definitely not in performance, is actor Wentworth Miller (TV's "Prison Break"). Wentworth portrays the role of Chris Redfield, the long-lost brother of Ali Larter's Claire. His character was poorly handled as he is nothing more than an action hero cliché. To be specific, he's the prototypical strong, silent, no-nonsense type. Granted Chris was apparently in the military prior to his current situation we find him in, this based on what little backstory we are granted for the character, but his asinine tough-guy routine felt played out and lame from the get-go.To sum things up, as I'm sure it's quite obvious at this point, this entry left a lot more to be desired than its predecessors and could easily signal doom for the future of this franchise. If another sequel is to be made, then there needs to be some substantial changes implemented to get the series back on track. Do whatever it takes to bring back the entertainment value this franchise once had in spades. If nothing changes, then the "Resident Evil" series will become just another laughing stock in the already long list of horror franchises that outstayed their welcome."Resident Evil: Afterlife is rated R for violence and language.
This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) don't believe in the term "guilty pleasure." At least, not with regard to movies. Maybe if you were a connoisseur of baby seal steaks or hoodies made from pandas, the attribution would be appropriate, but not when talking about one's taste in films. Take Paul W.S. Anderson's body of work--I'm kind of an easy lay when it comes to his Resident Evil films for reasons both concrete and maddeningly difficult to articulate. They're glossily shot with (at least with Anderson or as with RE: Extinction's Russel Mulchahey behind the camera) and promise at least a few engaging setpieces featuring series lead Milla Jovovich in some kind of improbable action, possibly kicking dogs in the face as her character Alice navigates whatever bizarre and occasionally goofy developments are thrown her way by the increasingly slapdash evil conspiracies at the heart of the series.I love the series because at its heart, it's a great big silly (okay dumb, but sincere) bit of fun, obviously made for and by geeks (I don't mean this pejoratively) who are really into the games. Each entry promises some truly bizarre development for the subsequent sequel that never full materializes.Case in point: after the opening shootout in an underground, Japanese facility operated by the Umbrella Corporation--the baddies who created the T-Virus and Alice's former employers--Afterlife quickly dispenses with the more interesting developments from the end of the last film and puts our heroine back on the trail of Claire (Ali Larter) and the remaining survivors from the last installment. With most of the Earth's population decimated by the zombie plague, survivors have been following an automated beacon to Alaska, where they're promised food, shelter, and most importantly, no zombies. Unfortunately, the life Alice is able to find at the site is a feral, dirty Claire, whose memories have been wiped thanks to an insect-like device embedded in her chest.
The zest of the fiction in this movie is the genetic manipulation of humans to create new and desired breeds. That was ingenious in terms of pushing the envelop of genetics to new horizons. Though many movies approached the same concept of developing blood sucking and devouring human creatures via gene modification, this movie added the new concept of repair and regeneration of organs after traumatic loss. With this theory in mind, humans could develop an eternal species that never dies, but rather keeps regenerating. The major inconvenience in the movie was the choice of Milla Jovovich(Alice), whose voice was quite annoying, her sounds were fake, and her narration was dry cold. Many actors in the movie fitted their roles perfectly, but Alice. The fascination of the movie maker with a tall, blond actress undermined the greatness of the movie by her sluggish and unconvincing presentation. Milla Jovovich's vocal cords are those of a drunkard male, lacking the high frequencies and the ability to express deep emotions. Her eye movements and facial expressions were out of tone with the events. Missing was the perpetual energy source that allows airplanes and ships to move endlessly without fueling. Yes, it was science fiction and unreal, but fiction does not have to be unreasonable. An airplane flying from Alaska to Los Angeles and over many months without refueling is not fiction, but rather poor imagination.
This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) I have seen the 2D version of this film several times, but this 3D version is poppin! It gives the viewer a really good full emersion effect and makes it seem like you've never seen the film before. Every scene has good depth of field and some of the "splatter" scenes make you want to wipe off your glasses.GOOD JOB!Cheue
There isn't much more to say about this chapter than what has already been said in the product description and reviews. I'm giving it 3 stars because it delivered exactly what we expect from a RE movie. Action, action, action but no real substance. It really seemed like this movie was one of those "We'll force you to make this movie or we won't let you make the other movie you want." feeling. It felt like filler. I don't normally write short, lack of information, reviews but there just isn't any more to say than what has already been said. Needed to know before watching...Remember how in the last movie, Alice was now really powerfull and it looked like she would have an army of Alice's? The film makers decided, lets have everyone get drugged (yet again) and have their memories erased and this will explain why we are making yet another film. What??!! Wesker hits Alice with a serum to make her human again? But..He can still track her, she still survives a plane crash (just walks away)? When fighting, she still seems to have these abilities but they seemed dulled down. It was just something that bugged me about the plot from the start. Buy it if you are a fan of Milla and the series but if you arent' a big fan, let it go. Rent it instead of buy it.
Alice is back to blow up some zombie s**t.This movie got one of thebest performances of Millay's career and i was really impressed onseeing some of the footage!Ali Larter reprises her role as Claire andin my opinion, she's getting better&better in every film she does!!ShawnRoberts as Albert, for the first time on this franchise and did his jobpretty good enough& in my opinion,he steals the show because he's superstrong and fatally fast!Chris red field's character was taken byWentworth miller was a great addition!also this movie is going to be asfar as true to the game series itself than the prequels. This movie used"Fusion camera system" of James Cameron for the 3d shoots! Also the 3dcame out really wonderful and this is going to get much better applausethan avatar did!Another blockbuster for Paul Anderson, before the finalshowdown in"RE:regeneration" --"jason molar avian"
well everything sucked... couple of scenes really copied matrix and some of the mutants looked like they came from men in black. we heard that this movie wasnt very good but since we liked the other three resident evils we figured that it might still be good.. we watched on bluray from redbox and used one of our monthly promo codes to save a dollar so we only had to pay fifty cents.. i really want my fifty cents back or better yet my hour and a half back... please dont watch this movie.pros: it wasnt any longer than it was, and i did like that the same main character(s) was/were in itcons: acting, plot, predictability, oh my god when the big guy is swinging the club at them, you really wonder where the heck the 60 million on this movie went because it sure as hell wasnt on special effects!!!
This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife (Amazon Instant Video) I cannot believe that such a great video game franchise and existing story frame work cannot receive a decent film. This movie is as cheesy and dumb as the rest of the Resident Evil films, complete with poor acting, a lame and inconsistent storyline, terrible characters, ridiculous effects and just plain stupidity. I am amazed that they still produce these movies and that after so many attempts, it is impossible to make a decent one. Please stop making such ridiculous movies...all your doing is killing a great franchise....don't waste your time on this film.
RESIDENT EVIL:AFTER LIFE Â CATCH IT ( B+ ) I love ResidentEvil:AFTERLIFE, I was on edge of my seat the whole time and watchingMilla Jovovich as Alice reminds me off how much we love her. I stillremember the Red Hot costume of hers in Resident Evil 1 and after thatit's a history especially with this one, which has become the highestgrossing movie among all the Resident Evil movies. So I thing the wholeGang will be coming back . Yahhhh . Mila Jovovich is the best femaleAction actress after Angelina Jolie though Angie has proved her ActionHeroin Status in different Action movies where as Milla is stuck toResident Evil franchise only, but that's okay we still love her. AliLarter is the second most important essence to the Resident Evilfranchise and I loved her in T.V show Heroes though I still think herrole was never shaped up the way it should have. (who cares now as theshow is canceled). Bravo for bringing WentWorth Miller, everyone lovehim and thanks God he is the part of the this franchise. Boris Kodjoeand Spencer Locke seems like permanent part of the franchise too, notbad at all. Shawn Roberts is really cool villein and I think he will bereturning too next time, which is Awesome! Overall it was a great funto watch them fight zombies and evils yet again, can't wait for them tofight again.
While there were some disappointments (the army of Alices played only a minor role, and many things called for suspension of disbelief), overall, (speaking as a resident evil fan), this was a superb movie. In all honestly, speaking objectively, I would call it just another action flick. However my attachment to the characters, mixed with my love of well done action films (and this was well done- plenty of original and epic camera shots and slow motion) causes me to label it an excellent movie. Filled with more than enough gore and action, Mila Jovovich is, as always, a spectacular Alice, paired well with Ali Larter and Wentworth Miller. I enjoyed the larger role Claire played in this film, complimenting Alice's 'fighter-girl' persona with her own. While this film did not leave as much room for character development as I would have liked, it gave enough for me to become attached to the new characters, and more so to the old. My favorite part about this movie however, is that I believe it is the first horror-centered film in which (spoiler) the black guy makes it to the end. Filled with epic battle scenes, suspense, and even a few emotional (if cliche) moments, I enjoyed this movie quite a bit, and I believe anyone else who has enjoyed the past resident evil movies will as well.
I'm not going to spoil the movie for you, but just know that the movie had a great direction and great visual effects. Some would say don't watch in 3D because of the extra fee, but I say go for it because things do come at you throughout the film.
After surprisingly enjoying the last instalment; "Extinction" which wasdirected by Russell Mulcahy. Filmmaker Paul W. Anderson would find hisway back to the director's chair, not since helming the original film.He did however write the screenplay for all four. Now "Afterlife"continues on from "Extinction", but was somewhat a comedown and fairlyunderwhelming for me to put it down as being my least favourite of thelot so far. Done in 3D for its theatrical release, couldn't hide thefact it drew upon tired mechanisms. The special effects felt like itwas taken out of the matrix, so therefore the action felt uninspiredand sterile. Too bad because while it seems lazy the opening remainscaptivating in its execution of its searing action set-pieces and plotties (the Alice clones being used to wipe out the Tokyo based Umbrellacorporation facility). But after that promising start it loses its wayby becoming bogged down, muddled and uninteresting in the direction itgoes. This is when Alice discovers an old friend, where during a planeride they end with a ragtag of survivors held up in a Los Angles prisonand there she learns the truth about the safe haven of Arcadia.Anderson tries up the ante with showy techniques, by bombarding us withkinetic editing, slow motion activity, pounding heavy music and flashycomputer effects in a repetitive parade of bloody carnage and smokingfirepower. This focus seems like an attempt to cover up its thinnarrative, stale script and minor characters, because it's all hot airin the way it goes about building-up plot progression. Really all itdoes it takes bit and pieces from the other entries and weakly puts ittogether in something of a long-running comic serial. The desert makesway for urban infrastructure. The prison setting makes it rathercompact and drab, so are the characters that are included. Really it'sabout Milla Jovovich and Ali Larter. Jovovich might not be a dominantas Alice like previous entries, but she still strongly carries italong. Larter was better than expected. The scene with them togetherbattling the Axeman in the prison shower block is probably the onlyhighlight in the latter half. Shawn Roberts milks it with aplomb as anUmbrella Corporation associate. Also in the cast are Kim Coates,Wentworth Millar, Boris Kodjoe and Sienna Guillory as Jill Valentinemakes a very brief appearance through the end credits. A forgettablefare, which is all dressed up but goes nowhere with it."This is a big mistake".
"Resident Evil: Afterlife" is the only film which has 3D version worthto be experienced since 2009's "Avatar". After "Avatar", the other 3Dfilms didn't have satisfying 3D effects on them such as "Clash of theTitans" and "The Last Airbender". The 3D effects were just not visibleat all like it's the same as 2D only with higher price. The animatedfilms however did have better 3D effects but were still average. But,"Afterlife" is different and the 3D is really real. I have to tell you,"Resident Evil: Afterlife" has to be experienced in 3D.Don't expect award-winning acting performances and a great storyline.Just expect some fighting actions with great 3D effects. If you setyour expectations in an average level, you'll be surprised, but don'tput expectations too high like what you'll put for "Inception" orsomething. If it hadn't been released in 3D, I wouldn't be bothering towatch it so 3D is the main reason why I went to see this movie. The story is very simple for this movie. It's just Alice trying to finduninfected humans who have survived in the whole world. So, the storyis just plain. Nothing to be proud of.So, if the story sucked, why did it receive a score of 7 stars? The 3D rocked. Bullets shot really went out of the screen and made themovie looked spectacular. With many action scenes, the movie becomesenjoyable and truly, a memorable 3D film. I know the previous filmswere awful but this one is just damn great. Just cool.Tips if you want to enjoy this film: 1. Don't think about the story, the script or the acting. 2. Don't take your 3D glasses off. 3.Experience the Action Scenes in Amazing 3D!Do yourself a favor in watching the first real 3D experience intheaters since "Avatar". Even though it looks horrible, trust me, it'snot as bad as it looks. 7 stars for the combination of breathtakingaction scenes and great 3D effects. Just follow the 3 simple tips aboveand you'll have a fun time watching this.
Resident Evil is my favorite franchise although the third Resident evilis kind of bad, but resident Evil: Afterlife is the best Resident evilI've seen yet. This episode follow the end of the last episode, Alicego to Umbrella facility in Tokyo and fight with Albert Wesker (who isthe main villain in video games)then Wesker injected an Anti-Virus toher so Alice lost all her power and it was good because from the secondepisode Alice is just like Wonder Woman. Then she go to Alaska metClair Redfield and both of then come to LA helping surviver survive ahell of zombies. Chris Redfield is the character that I want to watchmost because he is the main heroes in the video game at first time Iknew that Wentworth miller portray Chris I kind of worry but in thetime i Watched I feel like miller is the real Chris (although hismuscle wasn't that big). This episode is the first episode that relatedto the video game Character, Scene, Dialogue 50% of it took fromBiohazard 5.The scene that I love are Alice and Clair fight with the Executionerand scene that Chris and Clair fight with Wesker(This scene is copiedfrom the video game) These are scenes that you can't miss.I can't wait for the sequel
This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray]Fan: i like the series of movies of Resident Evil, i'am suspect to write about! All are good for me.
Alright watched the midnight screening. Really good movie. Character development on most minor characters was lacking but damn was the bad guy kick ass in this movie. Kind of reminded me of sadistic Neo from the Matrix. Ending could have been better but the action scenes in IMAX 3D were insane. Definitely made up for the last movie in the franchise.
So...Where do I begin? The film received a lot of hype on this site dueto it's 3-D nature. I read so many comments claiming that this was thebest live-action film to utilise 3-D since James Cameron's Avatar. Ipersonally thought the 3-D was poorly executed even though the directorutilised the proper technology in order to shoot the film completely in3-D. During the film I kept on lifting my 3-D glasses in order to seethe difference, and apart from a very clear, crisp picture, I can't saythat the 3-D added a significant amount of depth to any of the scenes. So, if you are thinking of going to the cinema to watch this one in3-D, my advice would be to avoid it at all costs...The plot? Well, it's pretty much in the same category with the otherresident evil films, so if you are a big fan of the original on thepsone then you are going to be disappointed yet again with this newinstalment of the resident evil franchise. The acting is sub-par atbest, too many slow-mo scenes which are badly executed and a generalcheesiness to the whole of the film still exists. If you are new to the Resident evil live action films, my advice wouldbe for you to avoid it, as it will most likely feel like a waste oftime.
