Remember Me

Rebel Without a Cause meets Ordinary People in postmillennial Manhattan, resulting in Hollywoodland director Allen Coulters Remember Me. Twilights tousle-haired Robert Pattinson plays Tyler, a chain-smoking New York University student with a substantial chip on his shoulder. Drifting through life devoid of ambition, he lost his older brother to suicide, his parents are divorced, and his father, Charles (Pierce Brosnan), spends more time in the boardroom than with his kids (Lena Olin plays Tylers mother). Tyler takes refuge in his friendships with wisecracking roommate Aidan (Tate Ellington) and artistic younger sister Caroline (Ruby Jerins). One night, he and Aidan enter a scuffle outside a club, and Sergeant Craig (Chris Cooper) takes him in for mouthing off, even though he was trying to break things up. When Aidan discovers that they go to school with Craigs daughter, Ally (Losts Emilie de Ravin), he dares his pal to date and dump the Queens coed to get back at Craig. Game for anything, Tyler gives it a try, and Ally takes the bait, but he puts all thoughts of revenge aside when he finds himself falling in love. Ten years before, Ally lost her mother (Martha Plimpton in an unbilled cameo), and she understands him better than most anyone else, but the timing is off, and the events of 911 will change the lives of both families forever. The descent toward melodrama at the end threatens to derail Coulters delicate project, but he sets things right in time to make Remember Me an affecting experience.

Robert Pattison was very good!!

I'm glad he's mending his career from the terrible Twilight movies thatdo NOT do him justice as an actor. Very very good performance here.Good for him! This movie touched me in more ways than one. I lost a dear friend andclassmate in May of 1995 to suicide, he was also 22 that year, like thebrother in this movie. It still hurts after all these years but somehowwatching the film had almost a "healing" effect on me, it's hard toexplain but those who have lost a loved one to suicide will understandwhere I'm coming from. The end was awful though - didn't like it one bit. When I realized whatday it was and where he was I got this cold chill down my spine. So all in all - money well spent and time well spent.

Depressing

I love Robert Pattinson and his work in this movie was outstanding and very dramatic. I thought the movie was very good until the very end. It was very depressing! I do not reccomend this movie. It's not a feel good movie at all.

Bro-Approved

Ladies and gentleman, Robert Pattinson at his best! That's right. Hedoes a lot of brooding and watches women as they sleep and he looksgood doing it. That's talent… Despite my preconceptions, this moveturned out a little better than I thought. That just goes to show thatif your expectations are low, you won't be disappointed. OK, so I'm notexactly who you should come to for life advice, but maybe Gandhi'swords will compensate for my verbal blunders."Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important thatyou do it." The movie starts and ends with those words, so be mindfulof them and the movie will mean more. Also, the screenplay tries quitehard to be meaningful and clever. It somewhat succeeds with a bit offoreshadow, but fumbles with two aspects. First, I just don'tunderstand why Tyler (Robert Pattinson) overreacts to everything. Inone scene, I seriously thought he was gonna punch a 10 year old girl inthe face. Who reacts this way? He's supposed to be troubled andmisunderstood, but why is he over-the-top insane? Second, I personallydon't see any added value of having the love interest, Ally (Emilie deRavin). It's more of a distraction than anything. The beginning and end are decent, even though you can see the endingcoming from a mile away. (Hint: When does this movie take place?) Idon't care too much for most of the 100 or so minutes in between.Men: I give this a reluctant passing grade. If you watch this all theway through, you might like it. Definitely, surprising.....

This review is from: Remember Me (DVD) I'm so glad I resisted the temptation of reading any spoilers; I did not see the ending coming and actually couldn't believe it. Darn, darn, darn, how many times can we say it, recognizing what's important in life. Loved this movie and I'm glad RP choose to do it.

Great movie!!!!

Best movie of the year!! I'm an 18 year old straight guy, I went withmy buddy and loved it! great plot line, awesome acting, overall afantastic film. Robert Pattinson was incredible along with theeverybody else. I highly recommend you see this movie. Make sure no onetells you how it ends though because that will ruin it for you. Go seeit! I wasn't a fan of Robert Pattinson coming in to it but afterward Iloved him. From the opening scene you feel suspense and don'tunderstand what's going on but shortly after that you figure it out. Ihave no criticism about this film at all, I would go see it again andagain.

Don't Miss Remember Me

I saw Remember Me last weekend, and came away from it thinking that itwas great, and that life is unpredictable and you have to make each daycount. Emilie De Ravin and Robert Pattinson play Ally and Tyler, whoboth have a history of family tragedy. The theme of grief and loss isprominent--the movie explores how Ally and Tyler as well as theirfamilies have dealt with loss. Ally and Tyler fit together like piecesin a puzzle; Tyler has become cynical and angry since his brother'sdeath, while Ally lives life to its fullest since the violent death inher family. They heal each other and also have some fun, sexy scenestogether. I found it totally believable and attribute that to Emily deRavin and Robert Pattinson's stellar acting and great chemistry.Besides their love story, it's about family relationships andconflict--particularly the rage that Tyler feels towards his Dad forneglecting his little sister Caroline, and the struggle forindependence from her over-protective father that Ally and her dadexperience. Chris Cooper and Pierce Brosnan, who play Ally and Tyler'sDads, are outstanding actors who make the film even more layered andbelievable. Caroline, played by Ruby Jerins, is a phenomenal youngactress, and she and Tyler are wonderful together in every scene theyshare. The ending of the film was integral to the movie, in that the theme ofgrief and loss on a personal and family level was carried to a moreuniversal level in a tasteful, meaningful way. Totally loved the movie.

Forgettable

"Gandhi said that whatever you do in life will be insignificant. Butit's very important that you do it. I tend to agree with the firstpart." Tyler Hawkins (Rob Pattinson)Remember Me is an insignificant dramatic romance that begins with amother's murder and ends, well, with a serious catastrophe so cheesy asto merit a spoiler alert. In between are variations on the losses thatgo beyond suicide to the loss of a loving compass between fathers andchildren.Tyler Hawkins (Rob Pattinson) is a rebel without a cause, in the storyline and the way he plays a contemporary James Dean with his soulfuleyes, mumbling, and generally aimless discontent. His dad, Charles(Pierce Brosnan) is responsible in part because of his distance fromthe family due to the demands of his high-powered job and anoverarching self-centeredness.Ally Craig (Emilie de Ravin) brings love into Tyler's life, but likeeverything in this tumultuous city, she also brings drama at timesviolent, at others loving. No relationship in this film is without itstemporary challenges, in a way like a soap opera but taking itself tooseriously. The close-ups of Pattinson brooding are tedious after awhile; his anti-establishment attitude remains unanalyzed with theexception of his brother's suicide and father's distance. Come to think of it, you don't need much more than that for ascrewed-up life that merits much more examination than a second-rateJames Dean imitation.

Great Story about Relationships

I had very little expectations prior to walking into the theatres. Ihad watched Robert Pattinson in the Twilight series but knew his actingpotential wasn't unleashed. To state that Pattison dominated the moviewould be an understatement. Each scene he was in, he towered over hiscast members. Two scenes that definitely stand out, are 1) Verbalconfrontation with his father, after which he did not show up to hisdaughter's art exhibition. 2) Takes action when his sister's classmatesmake fun of her.The movie overall was very well directed, with great acting from thecast especially the Pattinson's father and sister in the movie.Emotional scenes were well done especially between Pattinson and hissister. You could literally feel as if that bond between them was real. The only negatives is that I had wished for a stronger and moredramatic ending even had it been cliché. Also the romantic trackbetween the lead pair did not get enough scope. Overall a great movieand would definitely watch it at least one more time. Give it a 7.9/10

You don't have to like it. It's not that good.

To me, this film is just another reason to put Pattinson on screen andget his fan base into cinemas. The story is not new... angelic rebel boy saves his family, only to beinvolved in a tragedy at the end. On top of it, the story was dull, the other characters were just sortof thrown in for decoration, and the sex was pretty bad. (Not toosurprising for a Twilight graduate.) The end is probably the most revolting use of a tragedy in a movie I'veever seen in my life. At the same time, it's also a cop-out not toactually show it. How is anyone unfamiliar with it (say an audience 30,40, 50 years down the road) supposed to know what happened? Still, it wasn't the worst thing I've seen all year, but the criticsare right.

unexpected brilliance

i'll be honest, i went to watch the film because whilst watching thetrailer i -being a teenie fan girl- thought 'wow, rob looks really goodhere'. So i went with no intention of liking the movie at all. It has nowsurpassed all of my favourite movies to be my number one. It's not youraverage romance movie. The poignancy that runs through the entire film is beautiful, thestoryline was unexpected, the characters are extremely interesting andboth Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin's performances werecaptivating. A must see.

Remember Me

`Remember Me' is one of those films that surprised me by being a whole lot better than I anticipated it to be.This follows two university students who fall in love and who have their own individual damaged pasts that affects the way they relate to their families and each other. Both Robert Pattinson , as Tyler, and the gorgeous Emilie de Ravin, as Ally, act extremely well and as this was the first film I have seen Pattinson in I have to say I was very impressed with his acting skill and portrayal of his character. This is a quite a gentle film, that is definitely story (rather than effects) driven and very quickly you are drawn into the lives of the main characters and feel the highs and lows with them. There was a twist at the end of this film that I am undecided if it makes the film better or worse. It certainly had an impact, but the same effect could have been achieved in a different way that wouldn't have left the niggling doubt about it's suitability to the overall film. All in all this was a very good film, with a decent story and credible acting from all involved. It is well worth a viewing at some point.Feel free to check out my blog which can be found on my profile page.

Delivers a Truly Amazing Experience

*Everything I write in this review will be my opinion only, as all ourexperiences are always going to be subjective.*This Movie is simply a beautiful masterpiece of directing, and acting. Not only does the Director attain a place among my favourites, so doesRobert Pattinson among my favourite actors (although his acting inTwilight leaves much to be desired, his acting in this Movie is simplysuperb and one of the best performances I've ever seen from anyactor/actress) and the Movie is definitely one of the most powerfulI've seen. Everything fits together perfectly in this Movie, and itmust be seen as a whole in order for any part of it to be trulyadmired. Every character feels so real that you are inevitably drawn into theirworld to the extent that you feel their worries, their sadness, theirhappiness, their strife. Everyone has something that they can take awayfrom this Movie, and I truly mean everyone.Nothing can prepare you for the ending of this Movie. Even if like meyou think you have everything figured out, you don't. I would describe''Remember Me'' as truly original in script and dialogue and feels verytrue to life in it's uncertainty. The Movie is described as a Romanticdrama. Romance between two people? yes there is that in the movie. TheRomance of life however? If such a thing exists, truly fills up theentire two hours. You will be left at the end of the movie with a feeling that you willfind hard to shake for hours.

I'm STILL crying

I just saw this movie last night, and this morning, I suddenly burst into tears just remembering it. The characters are all so relate-able, they draw you in and i think everyone can identify with one or more of them. The ending totally shocked me since i had not read ANY type of review, I figured *something* would happen to *someone* but I couldn't imagine the magnitude they used. Ruby Jerins is brilliant as Caroline, the slightly shy and awkward but incredibly talented 11 year old artist. She was the main link to humanity for Tyler in my opinion.See it.

PEACE-OUT 2012-04-26 00:42:52

Extremely underrated

I went into the movie thinking it was going to be another cheesy lovestory, but i was completely blown away by this film. I thought theacting was spectacular and the story line was extremely moving. Therewas nothing ordinary or expected about it. It was very touching andcognitively stimulating, I highly recommend it. Every single subplotwas interesting and everything tied together in the end. The characterswere all unique, human, and likable. I felt for the characters as if Iwas in the situation because I was so emotionally invested in thestory. It has a great message and theme about life and how we should goabout living it. It also displays touching amounts of care for lovedones and is very inspiring. I don't think anyone who goes to see itwill be disappointed.

Loved it

I thought that the movie was a love story until the end of the movie when all the pieces came together. I was the only person in the theater who gasped when it showed the date. Then of course cried like no other. I agree that the end of the movie brought everything to a close. It was sad but a VERY moving story. I love Robert and think that he went above and beyond he drew me into his character! I would love to see the movie again! I agree if you haven't seen the movie DON'T READ AND REVIEWS AND GO INTO THE MOVIE NOT KNOWING ANY MORE THEN ROBERT IS IN IT! It makes the movie so much better!! You will understand and agree!!!

Great - totally unexpected

Great movie, probably the best of the year. I truly wonder if there is any point in having professional critics anymore - most of the negative reviews are total BS, as if they are written for a different movie.Pattinson is great, all other actors are great, too. The story draws you in and the ending is just breathtaking.

2012-04-22 17:28:36

really surprised

This review is from: Remember Me (Amazon Instant Video) i thought this movie was going to be just another love story but im really suprised by its outcome, i would recommend it to those ppl who do and do not like love stories, or to those that do not like twilight. i myself am not a twilight lover but loved this film.

Tracy Fowler 2012-04-22 00:32:49

A must see film with an impact that will linger.

A surprisingly powerful film. A true slice of life movie that leavesyou feeling more than when you went in. This was so much more than Iwas expecting from the trailers. It is a complex, multi-layered storythat subtly draws you into the lives of two families who are livingwith and dealing with how tragedy has defined them. Don't mistake thisas simply a chick flick or love story. It is a portrait of the impactof human beings. By the end of the movie (which was spoiled for me inadvance but no less powerful) I was completely invested in thecharacters. The entire cast was incredible and Robert Pattinson verycapably showed that he has talent that will sustain him far beyondTwilight. The actors were outstanding as they delivered performancesthat were warm, gritty, authentic and endearing. As a side note aboutthe surprise ending, I felt the emotional punch but I feel that it wastastefully done.

DamN, please watch

For a Movie all together I would give it a 9 out of 10 and for a dramaIt deserves a 10 hands down to me. The fact that this movie to me was amirage that tricked me into making me assume that this movie is justanother romantic/comedy cute face movie. It was not even remotely closewhat I expected. Here I am some how forcing myself to watch it, tryingto break the mold in a personal way. I remember seeing the trailers forthis and couldn't do anything but roll my eyes. But now if a trailerwould come on I would look to see who eyes are rolling and tell themthey must see it. I really enjoyed how they made this a nice rollercoaster with huge lifts and steep drops, it kept me watching and whenthe credits rolled I literally started naming off people who I couldrecommend this movie to go see. Now you should :P

A Nutshell Review: Remember Me

I suppose the major buzz generated for this film, is whether RobertTwilight Pattinson can act outside of Edward, the lovelorn, pasty whiteface vampire. To me though, it seems that he can't escape from beingstereotyped now, and all the more so as long as he continues to playbrooding, teenage characters with plenty of angst that need to bereleased. If anyone is to think Keanu Reeves only has one expression, then Robert Paattinson looks close to become heir apparent.Remember Me though was saved by the curveball that got thrown in thelast 10 minutes of the film. I had expected it to spiral somewhere, because it started out quite bleak and without hope in therelationships of its characters, but had inched toward an all's wellthat end's well track in no uncertain terms, until Will Fetters' storydecided to lay down the emotional impact. It treaded for the most partsat being an emotional family soap opera that just hovered aroundwithout going anywhere, before that emotional sucker punch that on onehand may seem gimmicky, but on the other was excellent in effectivelywrapping the story up in one fell swoop. It's a romantic story centering around Pattinson's angry Tyler Hawkinsand his lover Ally Craig, played by Emilie de Ravin, and theirrespective families which have suffered and are still not quite overwith the pain of tremendous loss. For the Hawkins, it's to deal withthe loss of their son/brother, and for the Craigs, a senseless murderin the first scene that Ally as a child had to bear witness to.Different upbringing meant different ways at expressing one's pain, andfor Tyler, he's onto this self-destructive mode until Ally, who hasmoved on in life in calmer terms, enters his life. Then it's moreromancing and plenty of drama when characters clash, though with somescenes (such as the angry sex one that the censors and distributorshere agreed on snipping it off) that made it look pretty out of place,or at times contrived. In essence it dealt with how people show emotions, and their respectivedealing with pain and loss. Love gets expressed in many different ways, some explicitly in verbal terms but ringing hollow emotionally, andothers through the responsibility of making sure that their loved onesare financially free, hence the sacrifices made on a relations level.Patinson though only managed to brood with cigarette hanging on lips.or smirk a lot when events unfurl in a manner agreeable with him, andlooks very much immature when paired up against Emilie de Ravin's morepowerful performance.Allen Coulter's film also had its star studded cast to thank incarrying the film through, even though most like Lena Olin and PierceBrosnan had bit parts, with the latter looking quite un- Bond like withthe added paunch around the waist to play a filthy rich man who hadsacrificed close family relations for the pursuit of material success.Chris Cooper didn't manage to bring anything more to the table thanthat of an NYPD cop doggedly tracking down his daughter, or to dish outsome severe punishment. The scene stealer had instead gone to childactor Ruby Jerins as the little girl Caroline Hawkins, an art prodigywho is trying to reach out to an emotionally distant dad.As mentioned, if not for the way this film had ended, Remember Me wouldhave become just another misnomer of a title.
