a good old time

Sometimes you watch a movie and sense that the actors had as much fun as the audience. This is one of those. Won't change the world, but it is a pleasant way to spend a couple of hours. You'll have a good time.

Must Have!

This review is from: Red (Special Edition) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) After seeing this in the movies, I was instantly sold on this movie. A great cast and a great plot that keeps you gripped to your seat. The Blu Ray format brings out all those special effects in gorgeous graphics! Plus the special features on the special edition are a great bonus to watch as well.

See this movie!

The promos promise you a movie with some of your favorite stars. Greatactors and actresses from top to bottom. They hint at comedy. They hintat action. They hint at intrigue. If you are like me you expected thisto be a mildly funny bruce willis flick with some great actors. An Agrade B-movie.Surprise. This is already one of my favorite movies of all time. It isfor one, Hilarious. You will be surprised, pleasantly, a lot. I foundmyself laughing out loud and thats rare even in a comedy. The action isgood. And the acting. Every single actor down to the faceless extras inthis movie are perfect. This movie has it all . Plot. Humor. Action.Drama. Intrigue. Even a love story. But who hasn't fallen in love withMary Louise Parker.Don't miss this movie. You'll wish you hadnt.

I glad I did not pay to see this junk !

I am so thankful that we consumers have more than one way to watch a movie like this what a dogAfter about 30 mins of this stupid dialog and decided to watch one of my old movies that you do not mind watching again. RED is a 1 time view at best poor acting, poor plots, goofy lines, I am afaid it only gets 2 stars or D and I am being kind at that and the movie makers can do better than this and until they do I will save my hard money for a truly excellent one.

I didn't know what to expect with this movie when I sat down to watch it. I found the story to be engaging and funny. The action was awesome and kept me fascinated with some of the action they did. It is a very fun story and I highly recommend watching this movie. I actually have bought it so if you are considering buying it-BUY IT. You will love the movie!

Red Review

RED STARRING: Bruce Willis, Mary-Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Karl Urban, Helen Mirren, Morgan Freeman, Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox, Rebecca Pidgeon and Julian McMahon WRITTEN BY: Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber; based on the graphic novel by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner DIRECTED BY: Robert Schwentke Rated: PG - 13 Genre: Action / Comedy Release Date: 15 October 2010 Review Date: 08 November 2010Recently numerous movies have shown us great actors can make ridiculous material wildly entertaining. MacGruber, Machete and now Red have all been absurdly obnoxious, but their cast has kept them in the realm of the best films of 2010. Let's start with THEE action star himself, Bruce Willis. Surprisingly enough, he's not a cop this time! He's Frank Moses, an ex CIA operative being hunted down by a league of bad guys who make Swiss cheese out of his house via machineguns. Naturally Frank walks away unscathed and we are left wondering: who would send so many dudes to shoot up a house rather than just one to blow it up?The answer to that is found in Red's tone, which is: because it looks cooler. The charm of Red is that it knows it's absurd but it wants to be, and it also knows how to be absurd but cleverly entertaining at the same time. Oh, and if you are wondering why it's called Red, well that stands for Retired Extremely Dangerous; see what I mean? Frank has been flirting over the phone with a phone operator named Sarah (Mary-Louise Parker) and in doing so does two things an action hero can never do without serious consequences: he speaks on an unsecured line and he falls in love with a beautiful woman whom the bad guys will inevitably capture and hold at bay. This happens of course, but it's not the chain of events that holds our attention, so much as the journey we take with the characters in getting to those must-have action moments. For instance, not having time to explain that more bad guys are about to break down her door and kill her, Frank kidnaps Sarah; and this is their first meet I might add. Then they head off on an amusing road trip in search of assistance and information from a league of Frank's old counterparts who include Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich and Helen Mirren. Next to the gnarly bad-ass-ness that is Bruce Willis in anything he does - the Malkovich character was my favorite. Malkovich plays Marvin Boggs, a paranoid gun toting hermit who lives in a kind of underground fall out shelter, accessed only by - well, I can't reveal that; it's too funny and I've said too much already. Just know that you will love Malkovich's off the wall and canny portrayal, and that he gets 90 percent of the laughs. Shocker, I know.

Pretty Good Movie

This review is from: Red (Amazon Instant Video) This movie delivered on what the previews said it would. It was action from the start with about 5 minutes of dialog at the beginning. If you are looking for an action flick with a little government conspiracy intertwined, check it out. It's not an "Enemy of the State" but it still satisfied my thirst for government conspiracy.

entertaining

This review is from: Red (Special Edition) (DVD) I thought that this movie was very entertaining. I'm a big Bruce Willis fan and as usual he did an excellent job and John Malkovich did a great job with his character being somewhat off the wall as I picture him myself. Helen Mirren was a surprise character to me and I always enjoy everything that Morgan Freeman brings to every character he plays. This movie is worth every penny I had to pay for it and I hope it did well at the box office because I wouldn't mind seeing some kind of sequel.

Highly enjoyable comic action-thriller with a sense of humor about itself...holds your interest while alternately thrilling and amusing, without insulting your intelligence.

A Fluffy Action Comedy

The action comedy Red is directed by Robert Schewentke and stars BruceWillis, Mary Louise Parker, John Malkovich, Morgan Freeman, HelenMirren, Karl Urban and Brian Cox. The film takes place all over thecountry and is set in modern day.Frank Moses (Willis) is retired and extremely dangerous. He calls upthe pension office frequently just so he talk to Sarah Ross (Parker)because he admires her. When a group of assassins tries to kill Moseshe goes to Kansas City and kidnaps Ross because he fears that she mayalso be in danger. William Cooper (Urban) is a CIA agent who isassigned to track to Moses and take him down. Moses must find out whyhe is being hunted and he goes to his old friends Marvin Boggs(Malkovich), Joe Matheson (Freeman), and Victoria (Mirren) to helpuncover the wide spread conspiracy. Nothing is more dangerous than theretired and extremely dangerous. The screenplay by Jon and Erich Hoeber was weak and conventional. Everytwist and turn was easily foreseen and I felt no attachment to any ofthe characters. Let's just start with something that annoyed me at thevery beginning of the film. When the assassins enter Moses' home theywould not be all grouped together because they could easily be shotdown, they would separate and cover the whole house. Then after thatthe group of assassins outside of the house just shoot at the house inthe middle of a neighborhood. Ridiculous! It would be so much easier tojust do a search and destroy, not just a shoot a lot and hope you killthe guy. Now onto the characters. There was no need for Frank Moses tohave a love interest, it just makes the film more corny. Secondly Inever got to know either Moses or Ross. The character description forMoses would be retired CIA agent and Ross would be normal woman. Thatis all that you know about those characters. On a positive note therewere some funny lines in the screenplay, most of them were from MarvinBoggs. Still though it is not a good comedy, and as you can see from myabove comments it is not a good action film.Robert Schwentke's direction was not terrible, even if it was great Icould not give this film higher than a 7/10. He had some cool specialeffects going on, such as when Moses gets out of the police car andjust starts shooting like it is nothing. But Schewentke is also toblame for the way the assassins at the beginning were choreographed sothere goes the director points for cool special effects. Besides thespecial effects though there was nothing amazing about the shotchoices. I can't imagine him giving much direction to the actors sincethey are all veterans. Willis, Freeman, Malkovich, and Mirren probablysaid to Schwentke during rehearsal how he isn't necessary to be there,we all know how to not really act in a movie that will hopefully winthe opening weekend. There were a lot of stylistic choices in the editing by Thom Noble. Allthe transitions with the post cards were an interesting touch to thefilm, it definitely didn't hurt it at all. I felt at times though thatRed was trying to imitate Kick Ass with all of the special effects andstylistic editing. That isn't a bad thing but if it was it did notreally compete with Kick Ass in that category. The acting overall I would have to say is pretty poor, with oneexception. Bruce Willis basically just read the lines and looked allsuave, and he was a poor lead. He in no way brought me into the filmthe whole time I just kept thinking this movie is made for people tofeel like they are watching a movie. The same goes for Mary LouiseParker, in how she just played a conventional normal woman put underextreme circumstances. Now the only person in this film that I canactually say is good is John Malkovich. He is great as being aparanoid, insane, ex spy who just wants to kill everyone and thinkseveryone is trying to kill him. Almost all the laughs in the film comesfrom him, he steals the show away. Morgan Freeman is like Bruce Williswho plays a suave guy with a couple of one liners, nothing too special.Helen Mirren has a small part but she also brings in a few good oneliners. Karl Urban plays the CIA agent trying to kill Frank Moses andhe is decent nothing special. He in no way does a bad job, he justdoesn't do a good job. I just have to say that the woman that Urban'scharacter takes orders from in the film is probably one of the worstactresses I have ever seen. All she does is say lines with an evilvoice. I'm not going to look up her name because then she wins. LastlyBrian Cox is kind of decent as a Russian spy guy, he gives a few laughsout. If you were really hoping to see a movie that is extremely thin thenthis is the one for you. I'm giving this a 5/10 just because Malkovichdid some strong work in here. If you want to know some better actioncomedies than this off the top of my head there is Mr. and Mrs. Smith,Live Free or Die Hard, and True Lies. This is just a light heartedmovie, so if that's what you're into then watch this.

That's some serious A-Team physics when you can put upwards of a thousand .50 caliber rounds into a bunch of cars and not even wound anyone.

Great Movie!

This review is from: Red (Amazon Instant Video) Great Movie, Great Cast! They pulled it off big time. First movie I've seen in a long time that didn't make me feel like I was getting ripped off! Kind of cheeky, but that's the beauty of this film. The good guys pulled it off without the feeling that you had seen this movie adapted from hundreds of the same ideas rolled over and over. You can't help but smile!

I remember the Secret Service being tougher.

RED (Retired: Extremely Dangerous) is directed by Robert Schwentke andloosely based around the three-issue comic book limited series of thesame name created by Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner. It stars BruceWillis, Mary-Louise Parker, Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, HelenMirren, Karl Urban, Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox & Ernest Borgnine. Thescreenplay is by Jon Hoeber and Erich Hoeber.Frank, (Willis), Joe (Freeman), Marvin (Malkovich) and Victoria(Mirren) are ex CIA agents forced out of retirement when it becomesclear someone is out to kill them. Seems they hold the key to a darksecret that could rock America from its political foundations.A fun action packed romp featuring a cast of mature thespians enjoyingthemselves. What RED lacks in originality of plot it more than makes upfor in its willingness to entertain and not to take itself seriously.Apparently lighter in tone than the comics it's based on (not familiarwith them myself), it appears to be a good decision by the makers tomake it more airy. For this is the sort of cinema fare that most in thefamily can enjoy: well certainly from the teenagers upwards. Theexplosions and kills etc are well put together and keep the action fanshappy, while the comedy theme of age (these lot certainly aren't tooold for this crap), as Bruce and co kick butt, is sure to keep thesmile on Mam & Dad's face.A super charismatic cast (some nice cameos too) deliver a movie, whichgiven its familiar plot and aged thematics, is a surprisinglyrefreshing option at the multiplex. 8/10

Holey Moses this is fun

Frank Moses (Bruce Willis) retired form the CIA is just trying to make time over the phone with Sarah Ross (Mary-Louise Parker) when to his chagrin he finds he is the target of unfinished business and anyone he likes may be dispatched along with himself. Now he must find the culprits or cabal that is out to depose of him and a hand full of other CIA retirees known as RED's (Retired and Extremely Dangerous) this will require getting the band back together.Watch and have fun as the impossible becomes possible and you cannot help saying "Stay in the car". Of course Bruce Willis played in a lot of action shoot-um-up movies but Helen Mirren may soon surpass him. I know the movie is not unique but who cares? It is just fun to want them act it out.

I didnt know what to expect but it was great in all aspects.

I went into this movie not knowing what to expect, for the most part Bruce Willis is great at whatever role he plays in whatever movie, From Diehard series to the whole nine yards to the sixth sense to movies like Red he can play in any type of movie. This was a great movie solely because it was an action movie with a comedy storyline and the cast that performed it was exceptional. I would highly recommened this film to anyone youll love the action atmosphere and parts with the comedy roles, the chemisty between Bruce Willis and Mary Louise Parker is amazing really makes the movie. Blu Ray or DVD, Its a comedy role movie but its all about the action behind the comedy theirs tons of shootouts explosions and some fighting, youll want the blu ray for this movie, its much better for action movies and this can be considered one. Enjoy the movie hope this review helped.

Loved it!!!!!

I loved it. All the actors were fantastic, with Mary-Louise Parker being so entertaining that even with such top box office draw as Willis, Freeman, Mirren & Malkovitch I enjoyed her scenes the most. She was just so genuine - be it really irritated or really entertained. Fantastic job.The story has a few unique twists and turns that keep the plot moving and interesting. Lots of action (which Bruce Willis is spectacular at IMO) and plenty of humor with some drama mixed in for good measure. Malkovitch plays an excellent nut job, and Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren are outstanding as always. I have to say - I prefer Karl Urban as a good guy but he does a good job as an agent doing his job even while you don't like him very much for it. I like him more as Bones in Star Trek but not because he isn't good here - he is. Just a personal preference. All in all a film I will watch and enjoy repeatedly.

Dame Helen Mirren looks like Martha Stewart on the outside but Rambo on the inside; you won't see anything sexier this year than Mirren wielding an automatic weapon.
