My 11 & 9 year old daughters loved this movie! We stumbled upon it one night on TV now we must add it to our DVD collection. The girls loved the dresses. The story is very cute.
This review is from: Princess: A Modern Fairytale (DVD) Wow this is is the best movie ever & now its in my home muah hahaha. Thank you very much your a great seller.
I had no idea what this movie was about when I sat down to watch, but as it began to unfold I thought it had potential. For me it just never quite acheived it. The attempt to blend the here-and-now with happily-ever-after just didn't fit this time like I felt it had in Disney's "Enchanted."I'm not sure who the target audience is supposed to be. Dialogue seemed more adult in places than necessary in a kid's movie. Some of the scary fairy tale creatures might be too much for some little ones (though most kids seem pretty jaded these days), but the princess theme is obviously geared to little girls. The immature attitude of Will's friend, Louis, toward fatherhood may have been trying to play to men, though I can't see many of them wanting to sit through this movie. In an attempt to please everyone, it pleased no one at my house. The princess is very sweet and pretty, her "knight in shining armor" is a nice looking average guy. There are some entertaining moments--especially the fairy baby, but overall, for me, it fell short of being a charming modern-day fairy tale.
As a mother of 4, with 3 girls under 10, I thought this would be a cute movie to watch together. I previewed it with my ten year old and was disappointed that the words "gay" "lesbian" and "virginal princess" were used by the "30 something" father - to - be in the movie, when trying to set up his friend with the princess. The words were used quickly and I'm sure younger children wouldn't pick up those words, but unfortunately my 10 year old did. I was disappointed that abc family included them in their movie. They weren't necessary and wouldn't have changed the storyline at all. I also didn't see a rating on this movie but I would certainly slap on a PG maybe even PG-13 label, for the few inappropriate words used and a few scary parts with a 5 headed "Loch Ness" type creature. Again, parents you preview it first and decide for yourself. Aside from those disappointments, the movie was okay.
This new version of Cinderella takes Anne Hathaway resemblance of ThePrincess Dairies (2001) and and the more mystical Enchanted (2007)along with a clever plot device to make a decently acted and deliveredromantic fantasy. While the CGI special effects by today's standardstransparent, this made for television movie is just that, alower-budgeted version of full length featured films. With threeapparent weaknesses including an inexplicable date setting, a brotherlyhug which under the circumstances seems overly kind, and one of thecleanest homeless set that looks more like a theatrical set design, theoverall movie is enjoyable and even clever in its first half of themovie as the plot twist is revealed, But, later part of the movie seemsa little ragged, rushed, and the pacing somewhat even. Overall, this isone of those above average entertainment experiences worth catching ifit becomes available.
This review is from: Princess: A Modern Fairytale (DVD) If you expect just a cute fairytale story you will love and enjoy this movie. Set in modern day with the whole atmosphere of fairytale. Very enjoyable. I rented it from Blockbuster the first time I saw it but enjoyed it so much I ended up buying it.
It's definitely a TV movie, but if you keep that in mind you mightactually enjoy it. The story is at times cute, but whenever thefairytale side of it comes up it can be a little cheesy. The graphicsare you typical TV movie graphics, nothing great. However, I will saythe wardrobe that Nora Zehetner (Princess Ithaca) wears is absolutelybeautiful, in fact in the first gown she wears she almost looks likeAudrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday (not that I'm comparing this movie toRoman Holiday in any way). She really does look like a princess. Aslong as you know what you're getting with this movie and not expectmore, you may actually enjoy it.
My reaction after watching... "What the hell...". Yeah! No kidding Okayfirst of all, let us scrutinize the title: Princess: A modernfairytale. What came in my mind was a princess (modern one) not using realprincess clothing. Do you really have to wear that? Even though she'snot living in the city, but she's still in the big city. Never mindthat, it is still okay. Then the men were talking about sex, how to get the princess laid. Thisis a princess movie right which can be considered as kids movie? It'sjust not making sense. The plot was okay, but the acts were horrible.
This review is from: Princess: A Modern Fairytale (DVD) I have been looking for this movie for a while. I couldn't find it, niether could anybody else. I'm so glad I looked on Amazon, there it was. For a good price {New}. I got it For Christmas so I haven't got to watch it yet.But it came in perfect condition, and fast.
Classical princess fairy tales never go out of fashion: this time thestory is set in present day America, where a reclusive girl namedIthaca (Nora Zehetner) lives in a luxurious castle with many servantsand is seen as an eccentric princess of sorts by the locals. When ahandsome but not very wealthy young man named Will Humphries (KipPardue) gets to meet her at a charity ball, it seems to be love atfirst sight for both of them. But she is not an ordinary princess, andthere are many obstacles hindering their romance  both regular andmore otherworldly ones.At first the movie seems terribly clichéd in its overflowingromanticism: the laughably emotional music, the idyllic castle setting, the richly coloured cinematography and even some sweeping cameramovements aggressively rub the style in the face of the audience. However, considering its background as a modern day princess tale, allthis can be accepted as awareness of the conventions of the fairytalegenre. The actual romance between the two leads is very hackneyedboy-meets-girl stuff, but the fantasy elements help to move theattention away from the by-the-numbers nature of the romantic plotline. In any case, the beautiful Nora Zehetner suits her role well, vastly overshadowing the rather bland Kip Pardue. The adventure story regarding the search for the next princess isfairly entertaining for what it is, even though the CGI effects areanything but good-looking. There are also run-of-the-mill comedicscenes that may amuse undemanding audiences, mainly based on MatthewEdison's character as Louis, Will's loudmouthed friend frustrated withhis pregnant wife Sophie (Mayko Nguyen). In summary, Princess achieveswhat it was going for fairly well. The movie's goals may not have beenvery ambitious, but the different elements of the story manage tosupport each other and keep the whole from feeling overly trite. Ithink friends of princess fairy tales can easily enjoy the light littlemovie regardless of age (even though certain scenes may feel a bit tooexciting for the very youngest viewers).
This review is from: Princess: A Modern Fairytale (DVD) Cute movie about a girl who helps/cures "imaginary creatures" that many people don't believe in who ultimately set out to look for her replacement but ends up not only doing that but also falling in love in the process with a guy who didn't know where his place is in the world.
This review is from: Princess: A Modern Fairytale (DVD) I did enjoy this movie. You have to think of yourself in make believe. It is heart warming movie. Only think I didn't like at the very end it stopped and I couldn't get it play again.
It's no enchanted but it certainly gives a new spin to the meaning ofPrincess. The plot is newer than other stories. The princess must passon her powers of speech with mythological creatures when she reachesthe age of 25 to the new princess (usually an orphan). The princess isportrayed with innocence as well as a strong and loving heart. A goodheroine even if she talks a bit too carefully. William, the "Prince",is a likable enough character. Down on his luck, his path comes toIthica (the princess). And of course the two of them fall in love.Through a nice but predictable miscommunication, William has to helpIthica search for the new princess. The "animals" are a bit too cgi at times but overall have a niceeffect. The script is done up very well, humor mixed in with actualemotion. All the actors do a great job with their characters, bringingthem to life. Though the scenes, characters, (and the plot only slightly) have thatfamiliar aire and can be a bit predictable at times it is stilldefinitely a movie worth seeing, especially if you never gave upbelieving in magic!
This review is from: Princess: A Modern Fairytale (DVD) My 4 year old daughter saw this movie on ABC Family and fell in love with it. She loves the Park Birthday Party Scene. There are some scary parts so I recommend watching the movie with little ones the first time its viewed.
This movie was completely inappropriate for kids and way too stupid for adults. If it is for children, than they need to cut the adult "humor".
William (Kip Pardue) arrives at the home of a west coast friend tocouch surf for awhile. His last four jobs have not worked out and, luckily for him, his married pal and his very pregnant wife are morethan happy to have him as their guest. Almost immediately, William isinvited to attend a special fund raising ball at a nearby castle'sgrounds. Living at the castle is eccentric Princess Ithaca (NoraZehetner) who, almost 25, has never had a date and spends most days athome, taking care of the gardens and animals that live on her property.Nevertheless, when the Princess appears, William notes her beauty. Itseems the fund raising effort includes an auction for the "last dance"with Ithaca and a lunch date soon after. As the bidding goes higher,William calls out 50 grand! Its his inheritance and his only money. Joyof joy, he wins! Soon, the two are having their dance and making lunchplans. But, there is quite a mystery afoot as something Will said was acode for Ithaca to proclaim him her "searcher". What is that? Glimpsesof mythical beings, from mermaids to werewolves to elves, also appearon the grounds of the castle, scaring and confusing Will. Is Ithacatruly interested in him romantically or is William about to beentangled in something more dangerous? This is quite a lovely film foryoung girls and ladies of all ages. Fantasy fans will enjoy it as well.Pardue and Zehetner make an attractive duo while the secondary castsupports them nicely. Naturally, the sets, costumes, and effects arequite good, as is the direction. As for the script, is has somehard-to-believe moments and far-fetched elements but, well, it is afantasy, no? Thus, pick out Princess for the crew in the weeks ahead.
"Princess" stars Nora Zehetner and Kip Pardue in a modern day fairytale with a few cute twists. I've never been much of a fan of TVmovies, but this one really touched my heart.Mysterious and self-titled Princess Ithaca is making her annualappearance at a fund raising ball where jack-of-all-trades WilliamHumphrey just happens to be attending with his friend. He banks what'sleft of his meager savings in order to secure a date with the enigmaticprincess. It's a simple enough premise for kids, but even I as an older teenenjoyed it. The chemistry between Zehetner and Pardue makes you smileand I have to say Zehetner especially did a fun job of portraying theinnocent but spirited princess. Co-stars include a rough around theedges nanny, a settled married couple who is very near their due dateand a multitude of colorful, other worldly characters. The story may have been done before, and the CGI is not as top notch asthat seen in the box office, but the characters win over your heart inno time. And of course, the traditional fairy tale ending is always anice enticer for kids. The musical score is also appropriatelyenchanting.8 out of 10 for me!
I have seen a lot of bad movies lately, but one is actually a cute and sweet and good movie. It's such a beautiful fairytale story with amazing characters and a cool set and the film is adorable and magical and feel-good. There's a princess in it named Princes Ithica who rules in a kingdom and takes care of wounded and helpless creatures and is kind and beautiful and yet reculivse and likes to live alone. She has no parents but lives in a magical castle near San Fransicio and has a beautiful garden and gorgeous dresses and looks pretty no matter what time of the day it is. Ithica meets a handsome young man at a charity ball and they dance together and she figures he is who she looking for, the seaker who will help her find the other ruler to her kingdom. She's almost twenty-five and is looking for the teenage queen who can calm the creatures and beasts of her kingdom. Ithica goes on dates with William, and they both feel a strong chemstiry together. She is always kind and sweet and gentle and confident and this leads to many good things and moments and days between the two of them. They meet a bunch of little girls dressed up as princesses at a park in San Francisco and the princess answers their questions while William wonders how she can be so extronaty and lead such a cool life. William goes to her castle for dinner, but is interrupted by a bunch of beasts who want to tear him apart and then he get shurt and leaves. He does come home to find Ithica there, waiting to apogizie and explain how her powers help the harmful creatures around her castle. He seems to understand and tries to help her find the ruler of the throne and they find a seventeen-year-old punk girl on the streets and she helps Ithica save her lost kingdom. Then the girl becomes princess and Ithica becomes a queen. William and Ithica eventually decide to stay together, and the kingdom is restored to peace and harmony and the movie has a typical happily-ever after ending and the film ends. Princess is a delightful, magical and inspiring fairytale set in the modern day world of beautiful and cosmpotatian San Fransicio and the city is gorgeous, on the cover shows the Calforina Golden Gate Bridge and the movie has a very city asmpothere feel to it. I liked this film not only because it's set in the Bay area, but also because it's such a feel-good film and it makes you want to go out and be happy and live life to the fullest. I love San Franiscio and the beauty off it and I love fairytales and I love seeing good things happen to good people. This movie had all of that, and that was not lost on me.
Admittedly, I'm not a member of the target audience for this movie. Nonetheless, I did see it recently and had a few thoughts. The premise behind the movie - that a guy meets a princess who turns out to be a magical guardian of fairy-tale animals - is cute and has potential. However, it ultimately falls short. It seemed too quick (and indeed runs less than an hour and a half) and never took full advantage of the fairy-tale creatures at its disposal. There were no magical moments with unicorns (although there was one with a fairy baby). The movie could have been extended by half an hour or so in order to play up the fairy-tale aspect. Right now, it's too similar to any other ABC love story.Another concern is the appropriateness for kids. Some reviewers have noted one of the characters uses words like gay, lesbian, and virginal. While those certainly aren't appropriate for a kids movie, I was more disturbed by the portrayal of marriage. The main character's best friend seems to constantly complain about his marriage and the responsibility of having a baby. Fortunately, at the end of the movie he seems to have forgotten about his problems, but it was still unnecessary and doesn't portray marriage well.
