We have taken some photos of "Police Story 5: New Police Story". They represent actual movie quality.
this movie is awesome, jackie chan is awesome. this movie is non stop action packed this movie is great. love this movie, love jackie chan
I purchased New Police Story recently, and after watching it with some friends, we all looked at each other and stated the above: WHOA. I grew up with Jackie in some hilarious movies, and I knew he had starred in movies with a serious flair, but this took it to a higher level. To see him perform as a once highly accomplished Police office who has fallen from grace, and the reasons behind it is truly refreshing.Jackie Chan is in my eyes one of the greatest martial arts movie stars, and his resume adds substance to it. But this was almost like a passsing of the torch to Nicholas Tse, a rising star in HK, and hopefully for the whole world. They worked well together, and the chemistry with the other co-stars such as Daniel Wu, Tak-Bun Wong, Alva Chung, and others is simply incredible. But that is to be expected with the man Jackie Chan.As with the many movies he's in, there is comedy that I believe is placed in the right places. Nicholas Tse plays a good part as a happy-go-lucky person that irritates an emotionally scarred Chan at first, but proves to be his guardian angel in the end.The extras on the DVD is good, but are not subtitled. A small problem, but it doesn't wipe out the entertainment value. The bloopers are one of my favorites during the end credits, and regardless of what language it may be in, it will bring a smile to your face.I actually found myself watching the music video that Mr. Chan produced (ok it's not 50 Cent or All American Rejects, but c'mon...). It was fun to watch, and the song itself was pretty solid. I give it 3 out of 5 stars.Overall, New Police Story is worth watching, if anything, for the action scenes and dark humor. I recommend this movie for all Jackie Chan fans, for this highlights his skill, both in action and in drama, in a well-rounded form. I can't speak for anyone but myself, but I believe it's worth the high rating, so I say watch it for yourself and then make your decision.
Before watching this film for a first time, I was afraid it's going tobe disappointing, because it was announced that this movie is going tobe not typical for Jackie Chan movie's and since Jackie Chan's physicalpossibilities aren't that good as it was in the good old days, Ithought that there will be a very little of action in this film. I waswrong. There sure was a lot of good action, just like in all those goodold Jackie Chan's flicks. All fighting scenes were great, especiallythe last one, also there were few good shoot-out and chase scenes. There were lots of incredible stunts just like in all Police Storyfilms. The plot was great too and there was some colorful bad guys inthis film. I don't think that any of Jackie Chan's fans weredisappointed by this film.
Wow did this one catch me by surprise. I thought for sure I was getting another goofy Jackie movie. NOT EVEN CLOSE! The movie starts out with Jackie as a drunken cop. After showing him in some disgusting drunken moments, we get to see why he became like this. There is a group of kids going around terrorizing the police. They will do a standard bank job or something like that and then wait for the cops. Having serious firepower, skills that will relate to the x games later in the movie, and already being rich, the cops certainly have theri hands full. So the cops have serious problems and they finally get Jackie in a deadly game of 'can you do this to keep your fellow officers alive'? Needless to say he doesn't and becomes a drunk. When the band of x-games teens are causing trouble again a young cop tries to get Jackie to help out. I know you have probably heard this type fo a cop story before but this movie is seriously one of the best looking movies I have seen in a while. All of the locations and buidings they are in are great to look at. If you have seen Jackie Chan's Who am I?, Rumble in the Bronx, or even the well done First Strike, then get ready for a change. New Police Story has very high production values and it is not cheesy. Might not be what you are used to in a Jackie movie, but it was a very nice change to see this. The movie gets between a 3.5 and a 4 but could have gotten a 5. Rongguang Yu(the Iron Monkey) is in this movie and him and Jackie do not fight. That dissapointed me just a bit, but they still had some really good scenes together.
i just don't understand why ppl are writing comments which are sayintoo much emotion and too less action... well guys wake up. there aremovies like rush hour which are funny, drunken fist which are full ofaction and movies like this one which are just a lil more dramatic forthe more mature ppl. well it is called the new police story right? andi think this movie has a lot of story and it IS new. you can't justalways expect jackie to perform hardcore action movies... i think ( andam talking for a lot of other ppl too) that this is a pretty good newidea of a movie :) if you wanna watch the hard action stuff why don'tyou go and watch jet li instead? or jason statham? well am not tryingto say anything bad bout them coz i love their movie too and am a hugefan... but their movie would be more like it right? so stop critizizingand be a lil more open-minded ;)i give this movie 10 points coz of its fresh idea and breath-takinstory.
The film has everything action, romance, and emotions. Jackie hasplayed his part quite convincingly... may be his best performance as anactor. The age shows in his face but not in his movements. it is a verygood entertainer and far better than his Hollywood flicks. The movieshows Jackie as a victim of the brutality by a group of freakishyoungsters (or kids?). Dejected, he goes on a drinking binge. A youngman brings him back to life and he takes revenge by capturing the wholegroup. The good thing about the movie is that the villainous kids arenot being killed by the cops but they kill themselves. it is a sensiblefilm. but the only problem is i bought the movie thinking it to be thesequel of the police story series, but i don't think it was. i wontrecommend to watch the film in a jovial mood. its more of a seriouskind unlike his other action comedies. anyway, i liked it very much andwould give 7 out of 10.
I am wondering why Jackie Chan is still making movies instead of goingwith early retirement. There is not one single good movie in his wholecareer and this one is also not much better. Every single stunt we haveseen in his other movies, every single funny moment has been done abouta hundred times. Maybe it's because this is for people without brainsto watch or for the masses who just want one and a half hour withpopcorn, a coca-cola and go home again. I must say though that thestory in this movie is better than in all his other movies, and it ismoving at times. But that's about it. The worse thing however for mewas the fact that AGAIN his Hong Kong movies (In Kantonese) get amandarin dubbing, ad Indonesian translation (subtitles) and it is evenworse. Above average though, but if someone will grant Jackie earlyretirement, I won't shed a tear.
My favorite Jackie Chan films are Mr. Nice Guy and Supercop, but New Police Story is sure to entertain Jackie Chan fans and action fans alike. I prefer Chan's films with heavy doses of comedy, but this one is more serious and really rather dark compared to some of his earlier films. Although more serious there are some areas of levity many revolving around Chan's sidekick who comes into the picture about half-way through to help the inspector. There are some very exciting action sequences and stunts and I don't think many people will go away unhappy after watching this movie!
New Police Story  Jackie Chan has always used the Police Story seriesas a kind of safety net whenever his career hits a rough patch. Theoriginal was his response to his disastrous US cop movie The Protectorwhile the third entry was his attempt to recapture local audiencesafter a few high-profile failures. With his recent Hollywood outingsscraping the concrete beneath the bottom of the barrel (The Tuxedo,Around the World in 80 Days, Rush Hour 2) he's gone back to Hong Kongand basics again. However, this time round he takes a few more chances, abandoning his old comic character and supporting cast (Maggie Cheung,Uncle Bill) for a comparatively darker outing as a broken-down copdrinking his way to oblivion after some thrill-seeking rich kids led bya typically OTT Daniel Wu kill his entire team. Naturally redemption ison the menu, but the stunts aren't quite as over-the-top or asplentiful as before, while the (intentional) comedy is kept to aminimum. It's not up to the standards of his best work in the past, butit's light-years ahead of his US pictures and is a welcome return toform even if Chan's fight scenes fall short of his former glories (thatsaid, there is a good bus sequence and an imaginative chase down theside of a building).
If you have seen Jackie Chan mostly in comedies like "Rush Hour", TheTuxedo" and "Shanghai Noon", you'll be surprised by "New Police Story".It's probably his most serious drama ever. In his role as policeofficer Wing, he portrays a very successful investigator whose prideand confidence are shattered by a gang of rich kids who commit crimesjust for the fun of it. In a shocking scene staged like a video game, they kill all men of his team. Wing feels guilty for his lack ofsuspicion and wariness when he led them into this trap. It's touchingto see Chan on his knees and crying. He starts to drink and ignores hisfiancée. However, much later an enthusiastic young man (Nicholas Tse)encourages him to pick up the fight again and have revenge on thismerciless gang.I think it was not wise to sell this movie as yet another sequel to"Police Story" which it isn't. It has strengths of its own, and shouldappeal both to fans of 21st century action cinema and the fans of the1980s "Police Story". Chan delivers a great performance, and all thewell chosen young actors breathe life into the movie with theirdifferent characters. Especially the villains are not just anonymousopponents; they all have individual faces.
Benny Chan who directed this film, is a very successful commercialdirector, who has made many great big budget HK movie (like last yearHeroic Duo). Benny Chan, also made a movie with Jackie call WHo Am Iand that was also a very entertaining movie. This movie, has many new star and young star like Charlene Choi, NicTse, Daniel Wu, Andy On and so on (rich and powerful parent). I wishhis son should be in this movie to play one of the bad guy.The baddie here are rich bored people with nothing to do, except DanielWu the leader of the bandit who rob the major bank for fun. In thismovie i actually wanted them to win because those bad guy were so smart(has you will see in the beginning). Jackie Chan acted marvelous and iwon't be surprise if he getting a nomination for that. By far his bestacting in a long time, like the part where his girlfriend was strap inbomb and they were talking about their dying romance. Daniel Wu playanother marvelous job and his acting is for sure getting better. Thisguy going to make many great film has time goes. The action in thismovie is amazing considering Jackie Chan age, and it seem like Nic Tsewanted to be the next JC, cuz he done some of the stunt himself.Charlie Young who play JC girlfriend return after 7 years of no acting. She still look pretty, exactly too young for JC i might add, in thismovie her brother was under Jackie Chan team, but of course the bandit(call themself x-games) kill all his team including her brother. Therefore JC feel ashame for that and sour their relationship. CharleneChoi (one of the twins) is also in this movie but she play a very minorrole but still a funny character like at the ending. She suppose toplay Nic Tse character. Right from the beginning to the end, this film was superb and by farthe first film HK film this year i would give it 9 out of ten (One nitein Mangkok come close with 8.5/10). Watching these kind of film make mewonder why he, Jet Li and CYF don't come back to HK and make those kindof amazing films.
This review is from: New Police Story (DVD) we see Jackie taking a different direction this time around as he's responsible for the death of his squad in a botched operation. Where he guarantees that he'll get the criminals involved in 3 hours. Pretty egotistical on his part and it bites him in the butt hard. As they go about their operation and all of his coworkers get killed off on this supposedly easy mission. After this we find him in a deep, deep depression drinking to the point of the passing out and not knowing his whereabouts. This goes for awhile maybe a bit too long for some tastes. It takes him getting a new "partner" and reconnecting with his girlfriend to finally get him out of this funk. By that time a good portion of the movie has been done, but its Jackie as we know it. With all the over the top stunts, great fight scenes and solid costars (even the villians) as they have a reason for the aggression and killing of police officers. As a little bit is opened up about one of them and his abusive police chief father.I'm sure it has plently to do with the way they are. I don't agree with it but i can see where it comes from. Overall the movie moves along at a slow clip for a good portion of the movie, but towards the 2nd half of New Police Story all the things that. We know and love about Jackie Chan films comes to light and ends on a sad somber note.
This review is from: New Police Story (DVD) This was a very good Jackie Chan movie. It starts out very good but I must admit the ending was totally silly and stupid, but hey its Jackie Chan so you aren't going to be disappointed.
5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Jackie CAN act!, December 29, 2006This has to be the darkest Jackie Chan movie I've seen. But, that is not a bad thing. Here, we get to see Jackie expand his acting to the point of him being driven to tears as a malicious group of kids execute his team members one by one in front of him during a botched raid.A New Police Story has Chan playing the disgraced inspector who must come back from alcoholism to bring justice for his fallen comrades. Enter a young man who mysteriously wants to help the fallen officer out. Of course, you don't know why until the end, but suffice it to say, he is the comedic relief at times and until the end, you have to wonder why he's there. What are his motives? Is he good or bad?The unfortunate thing with this movie is some of it has been digitally enhanced to remove wires, but I can understand why. Unlike the first Police Story (which this has no connection with the previous characters), safety regulations are probably tougher now than they were when the first Police Story was shot. Plus, the budget is bigger and they can rehearse stunts. Of course, with Jackie Chan pushing 50, it's going to be tougher for him to recover from serious injuries. But, this doesn't detract from the action that occurs and believe me, there is some great stunt work in this movie. The fight scenes are fast and furious, but don't expect there to be a lot. This is a story that hinges more on Jackie's character redeeming himself, both with the police force as well as his fiancée that never stopped loving or believing in him, even when the inspector himself felt he was a disgrace. Many might not like it, but for me, it was refreshing to see the focus more on Jackie's acting and his character rather than the actual fighting.Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie, possibly even more than the first Police Story. It's more polished and Jackie's acting is superb. There is still the funny humor in it and the use of props during the fights, especially the Lego fight and how can you not forget the skyscraper escape down the side of the building? Wow!This is a must see. I highly recommend it!
this movie is very good. i don't care if the stunts are redone or fromprevious old jackie chan movies. this is by far one of my favoritemovies.jackie chan deserved a lot for his movies. better than thoseoverrated...paparazzi following U.S. celebrities...Americans love somuch.screw haters.......this movie was great. i'm glad they made this.so what if the hk police look weak? U.S. police are crap too in reallife too.i like this movie in its original language.i give it a full score because this movie deserved it.it was funny, thrilling, sad, suspenseful, and action pack.i don't care what haters think....they don't know how to review a goodmovie.this movie is awesome so f#ck off!
This review is from: New Police Story (DVD) A good movie that we all enjoyed seeing on tv night.
When I bought the tickets to this movie, I was expecting a typicalkungfu karate Jackie Chan movie, but the movie happened to be what Ileast expected, it was a GREAT movie, and JACKIE CHAN was at his bestperformance. The director was great, and the movie looks like a high budget movie.Though the movie is Chinese but it's still very great. The story wasvery nice, it can make you laugh, cry, think, nervous. I think theChinese really overcame Hollywood with this great piece.Americans never made such a movie. It's an action movie that deservesthe money you spend to a theater.
Senior Inspector Chan Kwok-Wing was one of the top cops in Hong Konguntil he turned to drink and despair. It has been a year since he ledhis unit of men into a trap set up by a gang of violent thrill seekers, who killed them off one-by-one in front of him, but he carries theguilt and pain daily. He is helped from the gutter by young policeofficer Frank Cheng, who forces him into action to locate and take downthe gang, who continue to pull off robberies and kill the officers whorespond.I didn't expect too much from this film when I watched it but was justhoping to see some good stunts and action. Just as well really sincethe film isn't that good, even if it has its moments. The plot isreasonably good in regards the potential and was surprisingly dark intheory. The problem is with the delivery because it doesn't really comeout as smart as it should have done  mostly missing the target withthe tone. I never felt for the characters and got the impression thattheir back-stories and suffering was mostly cosmetic  rather undoingthe fact that the material is roundly dark. The action is OK but it is quite hard to enjoy it in the way that Ihave enjoyed most of his action because here it is so grounded in thisdark story. The bus scene shows how much noise and budget it takes tomake the viewer forget the story and enjoy the moment but mostly theaction is just good rather than really impressive; biggest thing Inoticed missing was the sense of fun  something that other Chan filmsgreatly benefit from and make him stand apart from others working inthe same genre.Chan himself isn't really up to the dark tone. He is a totallyunconvincing drunk and doesn't handle the depth required in hischaracter that well either. As the core of the story, he is mostlyresponsible for the uneasy dark tone not really working. Tse is mostlya good sidekick as he is a bit livelier but his attempts at acatchphrase ("my man") are annoying; I did like him but he doesn't fitwith the dark tone either. The baddies are OK in terms of performancesbut their characters are not as explored as the material would suggestwas intended.Overall then, a solid enough cop thriller with martial arts action butnothing special. The dark material doesn't really work that well as itisn't followed through and few of the cast seem comfortable with it.
For anyone who's become slightly bored of the often un easy Americanoutings of Jackie Chan new police story is a breath of fresh air.It returns to the slightly grittier moods of some of his 80's filmswhilst still retaining his charm and wit.If you liked Police story 2,then i feel you will not be disappointed with the latest police story. In comparison to his earlier films, the action is slightly slower, andincludes cgi elements in some of the scenes. But damn it, the mans over50 and he's still jumping off buildings and kicking ass.The story line is sound, if a little odd at times to a western viewer, but enjoyable none the less. One unfortunate draw back is unless you speak Cantonese, the gag reelat the end is a disappointment
A return to great form or Jackie Chan, this is, aside from two WTF plotpoints 90 minutes in one of his best films. The film concerns Jackie Chan's inspector character, now a drunk. Thisis the result of run in with a gang of thieves who are more interestedin killing and wounding police than actually robbing anything. Chan'steam is lead into trap and only Chan survives. A year later a youngbrash cop arrives to say that he's Chan's new partner and they aregoing to go back to work on the case that killed his team. Reluctant atfirst, Chan eventually comes around and the pair are soon back on thetrail.Bleaker and much more serious than most Jackie Chan films this is amovie thats clearly not for kids. Sure there are laughs but theviolence, especially in the first half, is shocking. There is an edgeto it all, people will not be alright, if the amount of blood is anyindication. The action sequence are incredible and reminded me what can be donewithout CGI and rapid fire special effects. Its so nice to see realobjects being swung about and smashed instead of what we get inHollywood where everything is lets pretend. The problem with the film is a break down in the films internal logic. It happens twice in a short span and serves only to further the plot, but at the same time it doesn't make any sense. The problem occurs anhour and a half in when Chan and his partner are arrested (don't ask)which leads to the pair being confronted by the bad guys while they sitin their cell. Neither occurrence makes any sense what so ever, howeverit does direct things toward the final shoot out which does make sense.Absolutely worth seeing- for anyone who likes action or thrillers. Itsa fine, though darker, return to form for Jackie Chan.
