Gotta Love This Movie!!

Okay I would consider myself a movie buff and have a love for the moretraditional Drama type movies, however there was something aboutOvernight Delivery that made me love it. Truthfully how can you not.The storyline in it's self is hysterical. Boy likes girl,she goes awayto college,he mistakenly thinks that she has cheated on him, he sendsher inappropriate material through FedEx, realizes that he has made amistake and seeks the aid of a local dancer to assist him in stoppingthe package. Now I am not suggesting that the movie was so good that iswas passed over for an Oscar nom, but it is a really good Friday orSaturday night watch if your not doing anything and looking for a greatlaugh.

Overdone Delivery

I've seen much more torcherous comedies out there that were done in the samesort of format. I admit, some of the scenes work and I did laugh. I justdidn't laugh enough. And everything was overdone. Paul Rudd gave the mostobnoxious performance of his career--We're used to seeing him in morelaid-back roles like in "Clueless" and "The Object of My Affection." Paulcan do comedy, if given the right material. This was the only comic roleI've seen Paul in, but I can tell he has potential. And he is, undoubtedly,an underrated actor who hasn't yet became a household name. I'm sure thisisn't one his proudest roles, and I'll be surprised if it remains on hisresume. The material in the script sometimes gets so lame that Pauldesperately tries to muster some laughs, but falls completely flat and justmakes an ass out of himself. Larry Drake is fun, and seems to hold his ownthroughout. He was one of the redeeming elements of this often lame comedy. The comic moments are so forced that you wouldn't be surprised if this wasmade from a rejected sitcom script. "Overnight Delivery" is a hit-or-miss comedy, and is pretty passable. Ifyou happen to come upon the movie on cable, it's worth a look. I can't sayI was disappointed. It went direct to video, how good can it be? But it'san OK movie that's moderately harmless, easy-to-take and entertaining to adegree. But I wouldn't give it a reccomendation.

Surprisingly Good Movie

I like watching a movie without expectations, but this love-comedy waswell worth the time. I watched this movie only because it had ReeseWitherspoon in in, who I am becoming more and more impressed with,particularly in comedies. She steals the scenes in this movie, and isthe catalyst for all that happens. It is a surprisingly funny and goodmovie. Reminds me of Blood Simple (for all the weird things that keephappening) and Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (for all the weirdthings that keep happening). Not a well orchestrated movie, becausethings are somewhat disjointed (she takes him to the airport, but dropshim off at the downtown convention center (reality mistake) and noreason for the cops to be there as they attempt to leave the restaurantafter not paying (movie mistake)), but the acting is good and when thewriting is right, it is very good.

Sweet, Silly and Sexy

A romantic screwball comedy that hits all the classic areas, but does it with style and flair, and just enough offbeat attitude (until I read the Amazon review I didn't know Kevin Smith wrote the original script, but there are still plenty of traces in the finished product) to make it well worth seeing. Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon have genuine chemistry, and Reese has never been more adorable. Would have gotten another 1/2 star if not for the no-frills package, but does contain both widescreen and pan-and-scan versions.

The plot of this movie is that this guy has a really ... prissy beautiful girlfriend in college (a different one than his) and he sends her a used condom and a picture of him wioth another girl, and it will get to her on Valentines day. after he realizes the error of his ways, he goes on the journey to stalk down the crazy UPS guy to get his package back before she gets it. He joins up with a girl he meets, and it is hilarious and great and has a great great suprise ending. i love it.

A hilariously funny teen comedy

If you are in the mood for a light movie from the same genre that brought you films like "Better Off Dead" or the more recent "She's All That", then "Overnight Delivery" is for you. Paul Rudd is great as Wyatt Trips and Reese Witherspoon is fabulous as usual as Wyatt's reluctant sidekick. In short, it's a good little film.

Finally on DVD!!!

YES! I can't believe this movie will finally be released on DVD. It's one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, and one of my favorites. Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoon are hilarious and adorable together. This is one movie you must have in your collection.

Overnight Delivery (1998) ** (out of 4) Wyatt Tripps (Paul Rudd) isn't your typical college student. Instead ofdrinking beer, getting high and on the prowl for women, Wyatt is agentleman who's madly in love with his girlfriend (Christine Taylor)who he's known since high school. The two made a commitment to hold offon sex until marriage but after a dreadful phone call Wyatt begins tothink that she's cheating on him. Entering the picture is Ivy Miller(Reese Witherspoon), a former stripper with the heart of gold.Wyatt pours his soul out to Ivy but she isn't the type of girl whobelieves in love. She tells Wyatt that the only way for him to get backon his feet is to regain his ego. She suggests that he sends hisgirlfriend an overnight letter telling her that's he's the one cheatingon her and wants to break up. Wyatt does this but the next morning helearns that the girlfriend really isn't cheating so he and Ivy hit theroad trying to intercept the letter before the love of his life getsit. Along the way Wyatt and Ivy learn more about one another and I'lllet you guess what happens.Overnight Delivery is just one of many romantic comedies where thefirst eight-minutes we have the main characters fighting, screaming,fighting and doing more screaming yet in the final five minutes we getthe typical ending, which we've come to expect from this type of film.A movie like this depends on liking the main characters, which is halfthe problem with the film. The other problem is that we've seen thisway too many times so there's so surprises along the way and in the endwe're left with an unoriginal film that doesn't have much of anythinggoing for it.Paul Rudd is best known for his role in Clueless but I've never reallycared for him in anything. I'm not sure how much direction he wasactually getting but the performance is very weak because this guy hasno identity. One minute he's acting like a mature gentlemen yet thenext minute he's acting like a buffoon. Rudd fails on both levelsbecause he's good guy act comes off as hokey and all his jokes come offwithout any laughs. Reese Witherspoon is the best young actress workingtoday and she does the most with what the screenplay offers. She'spretty much just along for the ride but she's at least easy on the eyesand brings that certain charm of hers to the film.Although Witherspoon is very good in the film she has no chemistrywhatsoever with Rudd, which just makes the film even harder to getthrough. The so called best of these types of films usually at leasthave charming leads but that's no the case here and I'm going to guessthat's why this film got a limited theatrical run before hitting video.The screenplay isn't fresh, isn't sharp and it really doesn't containanything we haven't seen before. There are a few dirty sexual jokes butthese come off very badly and you'll just be sitting there rolling youreyes. Overnight Delivery isn't the worst of its kind but outside ofReese there's really nothing to watch.

Who writes this garbage?

How do you mess up a sure fire romantic comedy formula acted out bytalented young actors? By making the characters completely idiotic andmore importantly unlikable. Only thing that kept me from giving it aone was Reese Witherspoon. She's got charisma. Paul Rudd has it too,but the script wouldn't allow it to shine through. Don't bother withthis one unless you're into mind numbing crap and wasting an hour and ahalf of your time thinking about how much better this movie could'vebeen. You're better off checking out 40-year Old Virgin where Ruddplays a similar whining character but comes off as much more sincere,tongue in cheek, and actually funny. The physical comedy was a niceidea but seems a little misplaced and does nothing to distract from theincredibly crappy overly obvious dialogue. In fact, I recommendwatching this movie with the sound off. The setups are completelyobvious so you won't have any trouble following it and you'll get morelaughs from Rudd's spastic facial expressions. If you want a goodromantic road comedy with some smart, funny dialogue and God forbid,likable characters, try The Sure Thing.

A diamond in the rough of modern-day comedy..

"Overnight Delivery", at first glance, does not look all too typical of thecommon-day teen comedy movie. Guy gets mad at beautiful girl, realizes he'smade a mistake, tries to correct it, realizes later on he's really in lovewith another girl. How many other movies have this plot? Trojan War, just toname a few. But there is something about Overnight Delivery that makes itdifferent: it has character.From the extremely subtle but fine touches such as the wonderfully scoredmusic which changes ever-so-delicately with each shift in mood (as mentionedby Terje Støback) to the well-thought-out cinematography which manages tofocus in on the scene in just the right angle when needed or supply just theright close-up shot -- to the actual actors themselves (especially ReeseWitherspoon), who seem to employ just the right facial expression to makeany mood or comment believeable. Overnight Delivery is a pleasure towatch.The plotline itself unfolds in a rather unexpected manner - while someevents (including the eventual outcome) are quite predictable, others popout of nowhere and it makes the movie all the more interesting to watch.This aside, the comedy within is amusing and quite frankly, cute.Overnight Delivery is a movie that you just cannot put down. Each time youwatch it, you are renewed with a sense of joy. The idea that true love canblossom in the most unexpected places and that everything will turn out"right" in the end can bring hope to any person, no matter who they are. Andyou will want to watch it over and over again, to watch it unfold as if itwere the first time.Truely brilliant movie. I could never forget it - and know I never will.

A great romantic comedy

To start off I would like to say that this movie reminds me a lot of RoadTrip,except that Road Trip is a pure high school comedy and that this movietries to tell a serious story and also has some romantic and warmscenes."Overnight Delivery" has some really funny moments and some beautifulromantic scenes.The movie stars Paul Rudd and the sweet and beautiful ReeseWitherspoon.Both these actors does a great job making this one of the bestromantic comedies I have ever seen.The movie is about Trips played by Paul Rudd who tries to stop a letter hesent to his girlfriend and on his way he meets Ivy played by ReeseWitherspoon who offers to help him.As the movie goes on you start to noticelove sparks between them,but nothing happens,I must admit that I got reallyirretated that they didn't show their feelings for each other,but as allromantic comedies I can promise you that it turns out great.Romantic comedies are the type of genre that always make you fell good andit always leaves you with this warm feeling.A very nice movie with lots of funny moments.

One of the funniest comedies I have ever seen

This has got to be one of the funniest movies I have ever seen.This movie was absolutly delightful.The cast did a perfect job.Paul Rudd and Reese Witherspoone did a briliant job in this movie.This movie is for anyone who likes funny romantic teen comedies.Don't just pass this when you see it in the store,give it a try.

Three Words

"The Sure Thing." Three more words: not as funny.But Reese Witherspoon is always fun to watch. Too bad the movieis more about the cleverness of the script than aboutestablishing believable characters and narrative momentum. PaulRudd basically reprises his likeable guy role from "Clueless"with Reese playing body double for Alicia Silverstone. Both arewasted.

Fun, refreshing love story.

I agree with "Dude" on how the beginning of the movie is very boring and lame. I watched it on tv and thought it was anoter dumb movie, but I was surprised to find otherwise. If you're a fan of romance comedies and just want to sit back and enjoy this movie's for you. It's fun and refreshing and I couldn't hope for more. You fall in love with the characters and really want Wyatt and Ivy to get together. Reese Witherspoon is very charming in this one.

Yuck!

Two shrill, obnoxious, and utterly unappealing characters bicker whiletravelling cross-country, which means (of course) that they must gettogether in the end. The writers managed to write a script that's degradingto both sexes. This movie makes a well-executed bit of fluff like _The SureThing_ look like Oscar material in comparison.

Average but enjoyable

Ok there is a few reasons why I like this movie, Reese Witherspoon being #1,but also because it was filmed partially at the U of M where I go. The movieisn't actually funny, and Paul Rudd is rather annoying plus I can't get overthe fact that they were supposed to be going from Minneapolis to Memphis butin reality the locations that were supposed to be those cities are about 5miles apart. If you can overlook the implausible plot, and just how stupidRudd's character is, you may enjoy this movie. Reese is definitely thehighlight of this movie.
