A career bank robber busts out of jail (Clooney) with the help of his buddy (Rhames) and kidnaps a US Marshal (Lopez) in the process. When the two cons head for Detroit to pull off their final big scam, the Marshal is put on their case but she finds she is attracted to one of them and has second thoughts about bringing them in.
If you had liked 'Unforgiven', you will probably like 'Out of Sight'.Personally, I found the movie very boring and it is one of those movies produced intentionally to be liked only by movie-commentators.
I've seen this movie twice on video and once in the theater and I enjoyed it all three times.I've seen George in everything from the Facts of Life to Dusk Til Dawn and I must say this movie lets George be funny and sensual at the same time which is not hard for him is it ladies?
This review is from: Out of Sight (Collector's Edition) (DVD) A terrific film, highly overlooked when it was first released. I saw it then, told everyone about it, and liked it enough to want to own it!Extremely interesting premise, and GREAT acting by everyone, including JLo!
Ah, 1998Â Bill Clinton was still in the White House, the Gulf War hadno sequel, gas was under $2.00 a gallon, and a kinda-known actress wasin her pre-J. Lo/Jenny from the Block/Bennifer/media whore phase.Back when she used to have a little (now she has a lot), Jennifer Lopezwas actually enjoyable in Steven Soderbergh's 'Out of Sight.' I sawthis in the theater when it came out and remember thinking it was oneof the better films I'd seen that year. I watched it again last nighton DVD, and I have to say that it still holds up. Clooney is finallygiven a worthy vehicle, and he and Lopez have actual, undeniablechemistry on the screen. The supporting players (especially theincomparable Don Cheadle) are perfectly cast. Soderbergh effortlesslyknocks this one out of the park. One critic gave the film two and a half out of four stars and claimed'Out of Sight' was in need of a 'shot of adrenaline,' but I have noidea where he's coming from. When you think of all the bad movies thatare released in any given year, you'd think you'd appreciate somethinglike this.
Come on... Don Cheadle as Snoopy? Isaiah Washington as Kenny? What'sthere not to like about the movie? These guys are straight up fools, andina really, really good way. George and Jennifer do their thing, too. Ialways recommend this one to those in search of trueentertainment.
This review is from: Out of Sight (Collector's Edition) (DVD) What great fun this movie is. If you like humor mixed in with your dramas you appreciate this. The chemistry between characters is wonderful.
After viewing this film, I would not call it a masterpiece. However, you need professional acting talent in order to perform on the SilverScreen and I know that I myself would never be able to entertain thepublic like Jennifer Lopez or George Clooney accomplished. GeorgeClooney(Jack Foley),"Three Kings",'99, gave an outstanding performanceat being a bank robber who goes bananas and winds up in prison andmeets up with a very rich dude inside the Big House who has uncutdiamonds worth a fortune. The picture changes pace when Jennifer Lopez(Karen Sisco), "Jersey GIrl",04, a Federal Marshall winds up inside thetrunk of a car with Jack Foley. This film is full of laughs and greatentertainment which will be very much appreciated by people who arelight hearted, joyful and realize the great talents of Clooney & Lopez.I could never fill their shoes trying to play their roles on theHollywood Screen. Enjoy!
George Clooney (paging Dr. Ross) plays a bank robber of the twentieth century, escaping from jail and winding up in an attractive cop's path. Albert Brooks has a memorable bit as an aging con, you simply have to see him bald to get the full effect of the hilarity. The movie has plenty of action (when it gets going) but doesn't sacrifice any story elements or turn into a sleazy "clean" porno as many other "action" movies do. (Contrary to the high-light of the movie trailers you have likely seen of this film.) Funny, smart, well-made action movie will take a bit to sit through, being over two hours long, and near the end it does get a little been-there-done-that, but "Out of Sight" is an excellent movie that will require at least one active brain cell to watch.
How could this movie have gotten a 7.5 on IMDB? For the hype surroundingit, the respectable cast, and the excellent previews, this movie just bombedout. I couldn't even finish watching it I was so bored by it. The plotwasnonexistent, the acting wasn't that great, and how the hell would a robberfall in love with a Federal marshall (jennifer Lopez? Maybe? :) ? To beshort, this movie is terribly boring, and should only be viewed if (a)youra diehard J-Lo fan or (b) you dont have to pay for it.
This review is from: Out of Sight (Collector's Edition) (DVD) I love this movie...it is very clever, actually better than the book. Clooney and Lopez had fantastic chemistry. Don Cheadle was great...the dialogue was often very funny, the plot made sense. Great filming. And they say it did do well at the box office...amazing. I think it will be considered a classic of the era....
This movie showed up on quite a few "Best Picture" listed when it was released but I didn't really notice it much when it was out. Turns out the acclaim was well-deserved. This is a really good movie, a great date movie, something both the guys and gals can both enjoy. It's a crime story and a love story and it crackles with the usual Elmore Leonard energy. I don't watch ER so all I've seen of George Clooney was that Batman fiasco, and I didn't know much about Jennifer Lopez besides that overplayed album, but both are excellent, playing people on opposite sides of the law who find themselves drawn irrestistably toward each other. Clooney plays Jack Foley, a bank robber who busts out of prison and abducts Karen Sisco, a U.S. Marshall who is at the jail to pick up a convict for transport. Even though it's hard to imagine Lopez playing a cop (especially with all her legal problems and the whole Grammy dress thing), she plays the part with complete self-assurance. And even though she can't stop stop thinking about Foley, she's determined to catch the guy who got the upper hand on her. As for Clooney, he shows Foley as a man taken completely by surprise by his attraction to a woman who is his sworn enemy. He can't stay away from her, but he had no intention of going back to jail, either. The rest of the movie is how the pursuer and the pursued change places over and over, and how both characters go about their business with a great supporting cast, all the while circling each other, getting closer and closer. A great movie, a fun movie, and I actually liked the movie ending more than the book ending. You'll have to see the movie to find out what happens. Definitely a must-rent.
this was a fantastic moive. now it may be a guy thing, though. i'm not sure. i loved the dialogue and the chemistry between Clooney and JLo. and the acting was superb all the way round. the use of time in this film was *very* effective in my opinion. the music was great. even the ending is very good - suggestive, but understated. the directing and use of filters and different lenses was very good (it was annoying as all get out in *traffic* however :(the only flaw is that there won't be a sequel (as far as i know).so watch *out of sight* and enjoy! :)
You've seen'em once, you've seen'em all. No matter if he plays a badguy, a good guy, a cop, a killer, a cripple, or a terrorist, GeorgeClooney will always somehow use his charm and wit to seduce the peopleafter him or pretty much anyone he meets, and gets out of a stickysituation. This time they ridicule the US Marshals by having us believethat a hot sexy young woman (Jennifer Lopez) is a US Marshal andtotally falls for him. I'm sorry but I just couldn't swallow that nomatter how hard I tried. Maybe if she was FBI or CIA, it'd be morepassable, but please do not insult the integrity of the US MarshalsService. Samuel L Jackson is great as always but his role is a bitdifferent here and unexpected. I'd like to see Tommy Lee Jones go afterClooney, because I know he won't fall for any tricks and take his assdown proper. The film has decent pace and editing that shows a bit of the presentand the past blended together, but the storyline was far too cliché andunacceptable.
This review is from: Out of Sight (Collector's Edition) (DVD) I ordered this DVD as a gift then watched it with the recipient. I was very embarassed when the DVD stuck in one place. Fast forwarding got the DVD to play again, but that particular scene remained unviewable. I would not use this vendor again. Good movie if you get a chance to watch the whole film.
No, this movie isn't CITIZEN KANE but it's pretty darn yummy. It'sfun, it's fast paced, and the romance between Clooney and Lopezactually has something to it. Steven Sorderberg knows how to make a movie fun to watch. Heuses the right tricks. And I love the freeze frame on George as hethrows off his tie in disgust. Also recommended--THE LIMEY.
lopez is lovely beyond belief. clooney is a star, in the traditional sense of the word. the directing is fine, the cinematography flawless, and the editing superb.
When this movie was released, I couldn't wait to see it. I mean, they took allthe best parts (which there weren't many) and wove them into an eye catchingtv commercial. But when you have to sit yourself down and watch the wholedamn thing? I shouldda stood in bed.
I love this movie, its one of my favorites. I think it has a lot ofstyle, good humor and a good cast. Normally I'm not that fond ofJennifer Lopez, but in this movie she's good. She plays a smart andtough police officer, that falls for the charms of a criminal (GeorgeClooney). The soundtrack of the movie is also good. David Holmes made most of themusic, he makes funky music. The music brings a lot of style and imageto the movie.George Clooney is playing an intelligent crook. Hes a famous bankrobber, he robbed loads of them. But he never uses guns. His characteris kind of the same as the 'Daniel Ocean' he plays in Oceans 11 & 12.So if you love his character in Oceans 11 & 12, you'll love Out ofsight. So for the comment above me that claims that this movie sucks, shut up!
Do you think the anonymous viewer from HOLLYWOOD below might possibly have some financial interest in this movie?? I could shout just as loudly not to buy it. Oh yeah, the movie was okay, but predictable. Rent it first.
This move boasts excellent actors and some very entertaining characters -absolutely loved Glenn. The character of Karen, however, leaves much tobedesired. I didn't take this movie too seriously but Karen struck me asthedumbest FBI agent that ever existed. Watching the kidnapping scene waspainful thanks to the sheer stupidity of it all. Why was it so hard forKaren to shoot Jack when she was being taken hostage but not so much of aproblem after she had already "fallen" for him? Some scenes amused me andsome even made me laugh. Many scenes however, made me groan and roll myeyes. I give this movie a C+.
